The waitress was very nice, our food came out relatively quickly, and the service was very attentive--checked in on us a few times and refilled waters promptly. It only lost a star because I wish they offered different amount of spicy-ness/heat to the meal. They have great lunch specials, $11-13 for appetizer, soup, and meal comes with rice. And at the end of lunch they gave us a little donut dessert (just a bite size), but unexpected and the perfect sweetness to finish lunch ! And I highly recommend the pad Thai. We were usual's here when we used to reside in Tampa Palms. Now visited it last week after nearly 8 years and felt nostalgic for all the food and celebrations we had. I went there today for dinner. The food was median, however the Fancy Duck ($23) and a small bowl of Tom Yum ($5.95) and Coin Banana ($4.50) which are overpriced. The Fancy Duck was not authentic, it is more like orange chicken from Panda Express with a bunch of vegatables. We ate there for late Valentine dinner, after we paid and got it the car, the staff (old lady) who collected our check (not out waitress) chased us, aggressivly required us to tips. After I gently explain to her that tiping is disrespectful in our culture, she just replied " But you have to tips". Till this point, I was upset and I told here that tip is optional and we already paid for service fee in our food. She turn her back on us and tell us that we are rude. We went back to this restaurant since my boss have a good experience last time. This time we have a different experience. Seem like the restaurant change the owner or the chef has changed. After the waiter took our order, the accompanying appetizer came out in different group time. We all have the same appetizer but they came out different time. Stopped in for lunch today. Traditional decor and clean. I was greeted and sat quickly. My colleague and I both had the Pad Thai; she the shrimp and I the chicken. A few things: - The lunch was accompanied by chicken and rice soup (bland) and a wonton. My colleague asked if it had pork and was told yes, so declined the wonton. Then another person delivered our food and brought it, saying it was chicken. Seems not everyone knows the menu. - I ordered my Pad Thai without peanuts, they then brought both of our dishes that way even though the other wanted nuts. - medium spicy was VERY spicy. - The server took away my can of soda that still had soda in it :( - they brought out dessert with nuts all over it. Ok so this spot is definitely a Tampa gem Really great Thai food here! What it lacks in size (cause it is rather small ‍) it more than makes up for in taste! I've recently moved to Carrollwood from Temple Terrace, so I've enjoyed getting to know my new area! BUT! I can't believe I had to move away to find this spot. We had the fried fish with garlic fixings, veggies and amazing wonton soup with a side of money bags (like a crab Rangoon). SO GOOD! The plum wine was excellent too. Once our food came, we literally devoured it! We were SO ready to eat that we all forgot to take pictures of the beautiful presentation! Small place but really delicious, authentic Thai food. I went during lunch on a weekday and ordered the panang curry. First I got a light chicken soup with a crispy wonton on the side, then the panang curry, followed by Thai doughnuts. For $8.50, that was a great deal! The soup and wonton were a nice way to start off lunch. The panang curry was thicker and had a stronger peanut flavor than I'm used to in my panang curry but it was still really delicious and had quite a kick to it! I LOVE Thai ruby and this is definitely my go to spot for Thai food in New Tampa. The inside is very romantic with dim lights, cozy booths with pillows, and candles. Service is spot on and speedy. The moment you're seated you have someone pouring you water and asking for any additional drink orders. Get the Thai tea ($2.95) it's delicious! They have a pretty large menu including a macros menu for those who like to enjoy a healthier low calorie meal. My favorite Thai dish is drunken noodles but you won't see that listed on the menu. BUT that doesn't mean you can't order it! Here they call it spicy noodles so you must order it by that name. I get mine medium spicy and the spices are perfect and the dinner portion size is huge! The dinner entrees do get pricy ($12-$15 on average) but you can enjoy smaller and cheaper portions at lunch time! For about $8 you get soup, a wonton, an entree, and a Thai donut for lunch. So that's definitely a great time to check this place out. If you're looking for amazing Thai food or a romantic dinner spot then you should definitely give this place a try! read more

We had planned to eat at Sharon's which appears to be gone and replaced by another. The food at Thai Ruby is fresh and edible. But the sauces are too strong. The peanut sauce too sweet. The garlic chicken too salty. I mistakenly ordered the awesome eggplant thinking it would be the classic eggplant dish. Instead it was battered and fried eggplant in peanut sauce. The eggplant was still tasty, but it doesn't need to be fried and the peanut sauce doesn't need sugar. Too bad. But in a pinch we'd go again and try something else. read more

This little hole in the hole might not look like much from the outside but is gorgeous on the inside. Covered from head to toe in Thai art, the space is small but feels very inviting. The staff is incredibly nice and is super accommodating. The chicken rice soup and Tom kah kai are absolutely delicious. The green curry is my absolute favorite dish. No place makes it like Ruby Thai! The Pad Thai is also very good. This is a Tampa Bay MUST have if you're a fan of GREAT Thai food. read more

My review is based on facts: customer service is unsatisfactory, we purchased two meals delivered by doordash, the order was not correct, close to closing so I called with no answer, returned the meals the next day and informed the waitress we didn't want our money but complimentary meals the next day, due to we didn't have to to sit and eat, which they agreed,went back the next day and rhe manager came from the back with no mask, or head bonnet and said we're not honoring what was agreed upon, after 15 minutes of negotiations she agreed, then I assume her husband storms out of the kitchen with no mask, gloves or head cover cussing and saying very derogatory words as if we beneath him, we were calm during the ordeal, I called the police, because this Asian gentleman was very aggressive for no reason, the police came and we informed him with proof, he went inside and spoke to the owner and informed them we wanted our money back and to let them know we would never return to a racist restaurant who speaks to people of color derogatory because of the color of our skin, we received our total refund from the professional officer and proceeded to a more customer service oriented establishment...Do not eat here, the health standards are creepy, tou been warned read more

I love Thai food, and love to cook it also. So I am a bit picky about how it is prepared. I stopped by Thai Ruby for lunch, based on the reviews. I found good service, traditional decor, and a nice ambiance. I ordered my standby, Thai Green Curry... and asked if the soup that is included could be upgraded to the Tom Kha Gai (Chicken Coconut Curry soup), and was told no substitutions unfortunately (I was willing to pay more if needed). So I stuck with the house soup. It came shortly, and was quite good... a clear, garlicky chicken broth with bits of chicken and some rice. The Green Curry was well presented, and tasty.. although much sweeter than I am used to in Green Curry.. and very little heat (and since Green Curry is Green because of pureed green peppers (jalapenos,etc..), I found that odd). I enjoyed it barring the sweet taste (and as mentioned in another review I read, there was what appeared to be canned corn, canned peas, and canned green beans served with it... not traditional at all, but reasonable for a inexpensive lunch) The two small Thai donuts (Pa Thong Ko) were ok (they appeared to be made from canned biscuit dough... which is a reasonable substitution, although not as light as real homemade Pa Thong Ko). I will have to try them for a full dinner and see if the food is more traditional, and if they are more willing to work with substitutions and such. Went here for quick lunch break with some classmates. The place is nestled in the complex with LA Fitness. They had a decent lunch menu, not to expensive either (~$7.50). They had the typical thai dishes like curry, pad thai, stir-fry, etc. Each lunch special comes with a fired wonton/chicken soup appetizer and thai donuts for dessert. I decided to go with the Pad Thai. I always enjoy a good pad thai. To me a good pad thai has a balance if flavors. This one wasn't bad, but they put way too much sauce. Each bite was too tasty in my opinion. I would probably ask for less sauce next time when I order it. I've been coming to Thai Ruby for almost a decade now and they never disappoint. I moved out of Tampa in 2012, but I come back every couple of months and make sure to get the green curry (that I clearly couldn't wait long enough to take a picture of) and I get some to go. I can't get green curry anywhere else and my homemade one doesn't measure up, so I ALWAYS make the trip when in town. Seriously so good. I'm stunned. In search of the ultimate Thai stop in Tampa I've passed on this place too many times to count. This was an amazing dining experience. Not loud, not overcrowded, not over run with loud kids or obnoxious adults. Peaceful, well decorated and just busy enough to let you know the food is good but not overcrowded or a line to stand in at prime time. We started with the steamed dumplings that turned out to be a bit of a let down as they turned out to resemble store bought dim sum. BUT this is where the let downs end! We then ordered red curry and panang curry and let me tell you it doesn't get any better than these curries. A thick "gravy" as it should be and the coconut milk wasn't diluted as some places attempt as a means to save a few pennies. Most places only give a a few veggies in your curry and this curry included both red and yellow peppers, water chestnuts, basil, celery, zucchini, straw mushrooms, broccoli, pea pods, bamboo shoots, onion, carrots and your desired protein. It was definitely a full bowl brimming with layers of flavor. I was stuffed but still found room for a dessert of banana coins with coconut ice cream. Found my new favorite Thai place. $10 corking fee was convenient and relatively cheap for a Valentine's Day date. Reservations were flexible and coordinated well. Crab Rangoon's had a tradition Thai curry added flavor and overall decent with a side of sweet chili sauce. The Panang beef entree ordered literally has an, "oh sh*t" factor to it on first bite. Absolutely delicious. Drunken noodle aka spicy noodle when ordering was also phenomenal as well. Thai Ruby is always delicious with fast service. They also always answer my questions about gluten in the food since I have celiac.

It may not look like much from the outside, but inside it exceeds expectations. The staff was super friendly (especially Bam!), willing to discuss the menu with us, and made certain that we received the appropriate spiciness level. The food was excellent, good portion sizes, and the veggies were crisp, not limp. Lots of vegetarian food options. I highly recommend them, and will gladly be stopping by there more often!
