I needed a meal before a big event and I'm not usually off on weekdays so I started looking for lunch specials. Thai Sweet Basil came up several times and my favorite Thai place recently closed so I decided it was worth a look. The lunch specials are very reasonable. I usually get the pad see ew but I saw the TSB noodles had basil and I LOVE Thai basil so I picked that and it was delicious! It also comes with the clear soup and a spring roll. The service was good, if a little rushed, which i thought was weird since there weren't that many people. The food must have been amazing because at the table next to me a woman said "this was so good, I'm bringing my husband next time, he doesnt usually like Thai food but I think he'll like this!" Food was excellent. I haven't had Thai food since last year it was nice to finally get some authentic Asian food that hits my taste buds. I grabbed pad thai, orange chicken and calamari for both my bf and I. Super sweet combo but the calamari balanced out the savory. Customer service was quick. No pics. Not a big fan of styrofoam..plastic is a healthier choice for biodegradability. But of course many places stuck with minimizing cost. I think it's important to think of alternative eco friendly products and functionality. read more

Great flavor and taste. The lunch menu is a great deal! Got the TSB Noodles which i assume are just drunken noodles and my sister got the massaman curry. The noodles were tasty and a good portion for lunch. The curry tastes like coconut milk mostly. The lunch entrees also come with a veggie spring roll and chicken rice soup. If you're a vegetarian or not a fan of chicken it's easy enough to eat around the chicken. We both got tofu which is $10. Pork and chicken entrees are also $10 while vegetables are $9 and shrimp/beef is $12. Good price per ratio and great flavor. Food came in timely manner and the restaurant has a nice ambient vibe. Downhill. This place has gone straight downhill since my last review over 5 years ago. The chicken in the chicken Panang was so rubbery that I had to spit some pieces out. I also ordered the crispy spring rolls, and while I was pleased to see how many were in the box, most of them were not completely fried. I stomached two and tossed the rest. The entire flavor of the dish was a little underwhelming and for the first time in years, I didn't finish my Thai food. Despite the fair price point of $21ish for both entree and appetizer to go, I will continue returning to the Cafe Modern Thai. I am kinda pissed. I've been living in Lutz for three years and just ate here for the first time. It was absolutely phenomenal. Best Thai we have had in all of our ten years in Florida. We came around 5 pm on a Saturday. Only a few people eating. Service was on point the entire time. Our waters never went empty. The massaman curry was so delicious. Creamy, just the right amount of chicken, potatoes, peanuts... maybe a little heavy on the onions. The iced Thai tea was smooth and sweet. This restaurant is located on last corner building plaza. We got the Cashew Nut chicken. The sauce and ingredients is there. Good wok technique. We also got the Penang curry pork. Sauce is good. Ok curry. The only thing I would said is the quantity is small compared to many Thai restaurants. I would not suggest this restaurant if you really hungry. Overall is the food is ok. We hadn't seen our dear friends for a long while. We had so much to catch up on. They took us to their favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant and we enjoyed the lunch menu and they even prepared a eggplant peanut dish for my friend, and he gave me a bite. So delicious! I had chicken pad Thai and jasmine hot tea. We all enjoyed our egg rolls with egg drop soup and the Thai Iced Tea is a must have !! My husband had a spicy noodle dish that paired beautifully with his Thai iced tea and my other friend had a coconut dish with rice. The booths are cozy and private enough for 4 dear friends to reconnect once again over heavenly food It's a gem. read more

Wanted to experience my first dining after the ban had been lifted and Thai Sweet Basil fufilled that need. I called beforehand to find out what protocol was, they let me know that it was 5 tables at a time and it was best to put in a reservation. I called back about an hour and a half later to let them know that a party of 2 would be walking in if there was availability. When we arrived we were greeted with social distancing signs (weird because it said no more than 5 people inside...). We were warmly greeted by the owner/hostess who had an awesome clear face mask so we could see her smile. =) There was only 1 other table at the moment and they spaced us accordingly. Our waitress greeted us with a smile (under her mask) and took our order. We were there for the lunch special and it was great! I had the green curry tofu, mainly because it had the most veggies in it and the hubbs had duck entree. Soup and an eggroll were appetizers before th meal and we were pleasantly stuffed. Our waitress put our tab on the table and proceed to the first original table to ask if they wanted dessert... whomp whomp we were never asked sad coz I would have said yes to 2 things but... it is what it is.. thats how I order.. if it's not offered we go get ice cream somewhere else. This is it. We've found our go-to Thai place. Other spots in Tampa have been adequate but Thai Sweet Basil stands head and shoulders above. The chicken Pad Thai, a quick barometer, was the right balance of tangy, savory, and peanutty. The noodles for the Pad See Ew were the exact right consistency (elusive in this town). We have been going to another Thai restaurant in Carollwood for 20+ years. It recently changed owners and the food and service is disappointing. We found our spot now! Our favorite server Jojo and the girls from the other restaurant are now here! Panang curry is amazing. The depth of flavor you get from warms your heart. Time Kai Guy soup - so good! Sooooo...the great reviews for this spot must be from locals in the North Dale area. I ordered Thai Basil and Crab Rangoon togo. Crab Rangoon- description stated cream cheese, imitation crab meat and curry. There was not any crabmeat in any of the 6 pieces that I broke open. Only curried cream cheese. Thai Basil with chicken- The sauce is unusually sweeter than I've eaten from most Thai restaurants. Also there was no Basil in either of our dishes as stated in the description. I will not be returning as what is stated on the menu is not what comes in the dish. read more

My friend told me about Thai Sweet Basil in Northdale. I decided for dinner tonight to give them a visit and try it out. I was greeted on arrival and staff are wearing appropriate PPE. I ordered panang curry with vegetables ( only peppers and zucchini )and tofu and egg rolls. The curry was very mild and there was an up charge to add snow peas to the order. The tofu was cooked perfectly for me, Lightly fried and soft on the inside. The egg rolls were good but you got 5 for 6 dollars. I only wanted 2. The serving size is plenty for two so I'll have left overs. I am impressed for my first visit, 20 dollars for my meal, will return and enjoy a lunch. read more

On or about 2/1/24, i ordered two meals at Thai Sweet Basil (heraeafter TSB) and when I went to pick up the order I presented two gift certificates that i had bought from the business on one of their promotions. They rejected the gift certificates, saying "NEW OWNERS," these were sold to you by the old owners. I said, this is still the same named business...you take the good and the bad, but they refused to honor the gift certs. Fantastic food and great service! Thai Sweet Basil is a delicious, family-owned Thai restaurant in Tampa. The service here is so warm and welcoming, as they are attentive and helpful. The food here was great! They offer a good array of vegetarian options and can do substitutions for vegetables or tofu. I had: Spring Rolls - crisp and stuffed w the right stuff. These were vegetarian egg rolls, 4 come in an order. Panang Curry - great flavor and taste. I got this curry with vegetables and tofu, and it was super delicious. It was creamy and even the medium spicy level had a solid kick to it. Pad Thai - again fantastic. I hate pad thai dishes that smell of fish oil and this absolutely did not! It was again super tasty and not too dry. I got it with tofu and vegetables as well. Overall my experience here was awesome! Everyone there is sweet and the food is great. The service continues to treat customers like necessary evils, the food portions continue to decrease in size while prices increases. Its unfortunate because the recipes that were past down when the place was sold a decade or so ago are still the same, but it appears that the sense of pride is gone from this establishment. Yuck!!! First, there was a bug in my tai tea. Second, the service is just the worst. We waited an unacceptable amount of time just to get our drinks. Thank goodness, I put in an appetizer at the same time. Oh wait, the appetizer (non cooked item) came after our other food :/ and it was completely wrong :( others came in and order after us, their wait was nowhere near as long, the amount of food they were served was twice as much. Third, in addition to poor service and wrong food, most of what we got tasted descent, except one dish, which tasted spoiled. Great authentic Thai cuisine. Will be adding this place to my list of regulars. It's close to home and the cuisine is so good and fresh. The staff are super friendly and attentive. They are clearly focused on the customer! Great customer service! It wasn't busy at all when we went which was a Friday night so we were able to walk in and be seated right away. We placed our order and the food came out so quick as well. Dishes are full of flavor. We ordered the chicken fried rice, chicken pad Thai and spicy beef soup to share at the table. Portion size is big so you can share and still leave full. The spicy beef soup was my first time trying and WOW was it good. I'm not a fan of bean sprouts or beef but my husband ate them out of the soup. Love the broth. The chicken fried rice was my daughters favorite. Definitely returning here. Actually craving it again. It was one of those Friday nights when I didn't feel like cooking, so we decided to go out. We couldn't decide what we wanted, so finally decided to to try a Thai place we had not been to before. We both love Thai food! We pulled into the parking lot and parked in front of Thai Sweet Basil, and as we got out of my truck... I noticed the restaurant right next door, a Peruvian place called Costanera.... and mentioned to my girlfriend that we would have to try it also soon, as I also like Peruvian food (and she has never had it, and yes.. there is a reason I mention this other place)! We then proceeded into Thai Sweet Basil! We were seated immediately, they seemed happy to see us... and we were soon brought some hot Jasmine tea, and ice water... while we were looking through the extensive menu. It was hard to decide what to eat here too, with so many delicious options. I opted for the Chili Grouper (Deep Fried Grouper filet in a Thai sweet chili sauce) and I ordered it HOT on the spice level, one level below Thai hot! ;) I also ordered a cup of the Tom Kha Gai, one of my favorite soups in the entire world. Girlfriend ordered the Panang Curry Salmon, medium hot. We sat and chatted for a bit, and the delivered my soup. It was very tasty, nice portions of mushrooms and chicken... and really had a excellent flavor, especially after I dumped a large spoon of ground chili into it... as it lacked any spicy heat at all. It was also barely warm... as in temperature, but it was edible. It disappeared quickly! The restaurant is nicely laid out... with some fairly intimate booths on one side, and a number of tables on the other side. Decor is nice... pretty much standard fare for a nice Thai place. It was quiet, we could talk... and were really enjoying ourselves. Then all of the sudden... Loud music started coming from somewhere... really, really HEAVY on the BASS! We could barely hear each other talk now. Other diners were complaining also. I was hoping it was just a car outside for a moment... but alas, that was not the case. They brought our main courses.... and we ate them. They were delicious... wonderfully prepared, pretty to look at, and with wonder aromas. My grouper was crispy... and hot , and sweet, and yummy.... so good. My girlfriend said her Panang Salmon was excellent also. The food here is really good...... But.... That DAMN music! I started getting a headache... and was just having a hard time enjoying the food. Not Thai Sweet Basils fault either... it was Costanera, next door. Live band on Friday nights... and they crank the music and the BASS to the max. Thin walls here too, apparently. Thai Sweet Basil... I love you! But you will never see me on a weekend night, which means you are a lot less likely to see me, period. Food is really good, Service was excellent, but the obnoxious next door neighbor... I will have to pass! I did go next door and asked to speak to a manager... and I was told to wait 10 or 15 minutes, he was too busy to come talk to me... So if you want great Thai food, Thai Sweet Basil is the place... but you may want to get it to go if it is on the weekend! :( read more

I gave three star because I had already tip with cash and written on the receipt but then the waitress charged additional 20% tip on my debit card. I made me to not return to the restaurant. Updating my review because we ordered from Thai Sweet Basil again. We got the green and red curries for a second time, which were both extremely bland. I ordered the green curry hot and there was not even a hint of spice. We also ordered fried rice and spring rolls. The fried rice was supposed to be mild, but was actually much more spicy than my curry. The spring rolls were slimy inside and didn't have any noodles in them as advertised. It seems like Thai sweet basil is pretty inconsistent when it comes to food quality. read more

Found this little gem of a place tucked in the side of a busy shopping center while in between medical appointments. I need a lunch and needed it to hold me over through dinner since I wouldn't be able to eat after my second appt. they have a fabulous lunch menu where you get what seem to be dinner portions for a lunch price, complete with a cup of soup and spring roll. I chose the chicken panang curry (mild) and it was delicious with tender chicken and fresh veggies. I also order the volcano roll to start with and it was full of so much tender fish topping that the topping off the roll was its own meal! I look forward to coming back here with my hubby and friends to do a full dinner as it is delicious. The service is spectacular and my waitress was exceptionally friendly. Also, they do a ton of take out orders during the weekday lunch so that was a good sign to me that it is a good place to eat! read more
