Golden bag- Tastey. Fried wonton like things. With fresh ground pork. Salmon curry-amazing. The skin was super crispy yet the meat was very moist. The sauce was also not overwhelming. It was not too creamy with the right amount of spice. Shrimp pad thai- I really liked that was not greasy and not too peanutty. Fish cakes- ok Fried papaya salad-also amazing. It had tons of fresh seafood and loads of flavor. Eat it quick because it does tend to get soggy after a while, especially the pieces at the bottom that had been soaking with the dressing. Thai fried/roasted chicken - too salty. Not a fan. I really loved this place. It reminds me a lot of what Sripraphai used to be in the very beginning. The prices are also very reasonable with each dish being about $10-15. The downside is that it sometimes takes them awhile to bring out food. The salmon and the chicken took over 20 minutes. Wow..a bookstore/restuarant ...weird. Put all my reservations aside and ordered some takeout to see what the big hoopla was about. I had the Thai Salad...ordinary enough you think. Wow. That dressing is delicious. So good..I wanted to drink the rest gathered on the bottom of my plate. I crunched through that salad in 5 minutes flats. The only thing that remained were the sploches on my shirt and the dressing on the plate..yum! I also ordered Chicken with Basil. Innocent enough right....whoa that was good! Fresh chicken in a light broth sauce with garlic and basil. Very clean tasting and fresh. Not greasy or heavy. The weird part is that they don't serve their dishes with rice. You have to pay $1. I love Thai. I eat it multiple times a week, and love a lot of places in both Queens and Manhattan. Happy to find another Thai spot close to home. Small restaurant seats 20ppl max (I counted haha). When you first walk in there is an assortment of grocery store thai goods. The dining room is to the left. Bright orange and golden walls give it a colorful homey modern vibe. Came for lunch and the waitress/server was less than friendly, she must be related to the owners because she was obvious very annoyed to have to be there. She treated us like a burden, despite that there were only a handful of people in the restaurant. She kept our waters refilled so I can't complain too much, but when we asked for hot sauce she acted like we were asking her to skin a cat or something! geez.. I really like the idea of "homemade" thai cooking. But, not EVERYONE's mom is great cook. The ingredients seemed fresh and less oily/heavy/MSG but it also lacked in intensity and complexity of the flavors, and in spiciness. We've only tried noodle dishes here, so maybe that is just not there specialty.. I'll have to veer out of my typical order and try the salads and rice dishes. I got the Curry Noodles. I don't think that the popular neighboring Sripraphai is consistently the best thai across dishes, but they make a version of this that I absolutely love. Here, it certainly looked pretty but taste wise it fell flat. Brian C. got the Pad Kee Mao (spicy flat noodles with basil/drunken noodles) with tofu & veggies. The noodles weren't as sauced, oily or spicy as usual but they were still savory and flavorful. Kind of a small portion of the noodles though. The veggies were a little under seasoned. CASH ONLY. I always find it redundant when people post this on reviews, and although it is expected for the neighborhood, unlike most restaurants there is ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNAGE anywhere on, in or around the restaurant. Try the duck curry. Seriously. When I was ordering, the waitress asked, "do you mind that we use the fattier, FATTIEST, part of the duck?" Is that a question?!! Did Mr. 53&6 just ask, do you want white sauce with your halal? Anyway, fat duck in a tomato-flavored, coconut milk-based curry with pineapples and peppers was a whole new Thai experience for my palate. On this lunchtime visit, I let the server know I was pressed for time upon arrival. I was the only patron in the restaurant. 19 minutes later, when the food still hadn't arrived, she told me I had just ordered 5 minutes ago. No consensual reality here. The only thing worse than the wait was the food itself. Jungle curry was watery, oily and bland. It looked like oily flavored water. The pork was dry. Very attentive and friendly waitress and the food came out quickly. Had the mango salad, crispy papaya salad and drunken noodles with pork. All solid dishes with plenty of flavor. In particular, the mango salad stood out as it was green (young) mango and had a nice tang to it. If the waits are crazy at Sripra, come here. Even if there is no wait, come here. I love this place. Specifically, I love the food...and I have learned to enjoy the rest of the experience. Everything I've had there has been delicious--the fried papaya salad is amazing. I almost never eat fried food because I don't care for it, but after trying a bite of my friend's fried papaya salad I cannot stop thinking about this dish. It's unique and incredibly good. The noodle dishes are delicious (pad see ew and pad kee mao are my favourites), as are the curries (I like the green). The spice level is perfect--i.e., they know what spicy means. As others have mentioned, it's definitely not a fancy place by any means (it's attached to a little grocery store), it's byob, it's cash only, the temperature in the place can sometimes be uncomfortable (too cold), and it can be really slow. But to me, these things have all become part of its charm. If you're looking for delicious food in a no-frills setting, you'll love this place. If you're looking for a dining experience, this probably isn't the place for you. read more

This is my GO TO Thai place! Forget Shripraphai! Just down the block from the overcrowded and overrated mega-Thai restaurant, lies this small ma and pa restaurant/thai grocery store. It's a rare Gem! Thai home cooking at its finest! Its as if you're visiting a friends home and you stay over for dinner. Food is fresh, delicious and service is great! My favorites: Calamari, Crabmeat fried rice, Panang curry, Pad kee mow, and these amazing dumplings that were off the menu and especially prepared for us! Don't forget to stop by the attached grocery store and grab a tin can full of shrimp chips and instant noodles! And its BYOB!!!!! If you're with a large group you can call earlier and have them prepare appetizers for you while you party arrives! It takes a bit for large groups because there's only one cook, but she's great! Mmm...Thai food! We found ourselves back to Thailand's Center Point about 2 Fridays ago after work. Again, this place is cash only and it is BYOB. So this time we were smarter and went to the deli on the corner and got a large can of Kirin Light and brought it with us to the restaurant so we can drink. We ordered the chicken pad se ew as usual and soft shell crabs there for the first time. Chicken pad se ew is great as always. And the soft shell crabs were so soft and juicy in the sauce that they use. You can have it mild, medium, or spicy. We got it in medium and it wasn't that spicy actually, which was good for me! LOL! :) We always love coming here for a low key dinner. It's really relaxing eating here. Although, the food did take a while to come out that night because there were two other tables that sat down right before us. read more

Wow, this is a gem, hidden in the long shadow if Sri Pra Phai. It's literally next door and I'll be honest that the food is as good as and maybe better than Sri Pra Phai. The restaurant is small, with about a dozen tables. Half of the space is a stand alone Thai market, with spices, seasonings and all other kinds of Thai food and culture related items. The restaurant portion seem is a pretty much a showcase for the goods being sold. There is 1-2 cooks in the back fixing up delicious and authentic Thai good with a smile. It feels like being back in Thailand for me, sitting in a small hole in the wall restaurant and getting the real flavor of Thailand. The mango and papaya salads were delicious. There is a crispy pork dish that was phenomenal. In addition the noodles were fresh and flavorful. Because it is small and next to Sri Pra Phai, it tends not to be crowded so you can always get a table and your food in a reason amount of time. They also have a chalk board filled with daily specials. That should be the first thing to check out, not the standard menu. Keep in mind that this place is cash only and BYOB. As long as that's not a problem for you, I promise you will enjoy some of the best Thai food in the City. read more

I'd hate to pigeon-hole this as "that alternative to Sripraphai," but it really is. I've been here a few times for the lunch specials and I have never felt as if the food I was being served was "Americanized." When I asked for my rice dish to be spicy, lo and behold, IT WAS (and not the lazy kind of spicy where they just add more chili powder, but a flavorful sort of spicy). Often when I eat thai food (in places other than sripraphai and here), the food is no where near as spicy as I would like. Kudos to this place and I'm glad it's doing well. read more

Get the crispy papaya salad, really. There were a bit too much peanuts on my taste but it's soo good, I think it worth 8.5 bucks. My friend and I gobbled it like crazy. We split that and massaman curry. Not too crazy about the roti, it was waay too greasy, I can fry my fingers after touching it and it would turn nice golden brown (no, don't fry your fingers). This place can do no wrong in my eyes, EXCEPT on Saturdays. Why on Saturdays you ask? Well the lady who works here on Saturdays is not only rude, but I am convinced she has bi-polar disorder. I love coming here any other day of the week when the younger girl is there (owners daughter). But wow, the lady on Saturday is crazy. One minute she's happy and the next she's being rude and ignoring us. I have witnessed with my own eyes how rude she can be to other customers. In sum: small, awesome, and very much worth a visit. We stopped in Woodside en route to Nassau county -- the combination of subway lines and the LIRR station makes this an easy destination even for us jersey types. I initially thought we'd hit up SriPraPhai since it had been a couple of years since our last visit, but in the spirit of giving another spot a chance, we decided to try Thailand's Center Point. It's a much smaller operation -- in a very good way. For a starter we got the signature crispy papaya salad, which was delicious and different. The texture of the papaya strips almost reminded us of soft shell crab legs, and we enjoyed the included shrimp and calamari. For a shared main we got the whole fried snapper with chili sauce. It was perfect -- as good as on the coast in Thailand, according to my dining partner. The fish had a ton of meat and the skin was crispy with a really well-seasoned sauce -- spicy but not intolerably so. The Thai iced tea and iced coffee were great too, and the servings weren't as skimpy as at many other places. It felt like a mom & pop place, which was confirmed when we complimented the waitress on the food -- she said it was so good because her mom is in the kitchen. Also, kudos to the surprisingly serene bathroom, which exceeded my expectations for a small casual spot like this. All in all, great food, fair prices, and attentive service. In efforts to find a new place, my friend and i tested out this place. trying to find the place on googal maps was difficult so here's how you get there: pretend to go to Sripraphai but walk past that, just one street further and it is on the same side as Sriprahai....between 63rd and 64th st on 39th ave. It's a cute, small restaurant shop. the seating area is small but comfortable and intimate with few decorations. I am definitely coming here again. they have a good mix of unique and authentic to the usual thai dishes to cater to everyone. As a foodie, i enjoyed this place. my friend and i ordered the following: - panang salmon curry- this was surprising good mainly because the fish was moist and flaky (it was not over cooked and tough...oh and it was a fillet so no bones+++). made just right. My friend does not even like fish but he actually ate it up. - the crispy papaya salad was quite good and with a generous portion. the shrimp was clean and just the right amount crunch. i think i'll try the regular one next time. there were a lot of thai salad options to try. - thai eggplant with ground chicken - in comparison to the other dishes..this was a disappointment mainly because i personally like my eggplant fully cooked. read more

We desperately needed food after 6+ hours at a sketchy car dealership (aren't they all?). I'm glad we came to this place. It was empty when we arrived around 6 pm on a Friday night, but a few more people arrived later. The place is really small and also contains a mini shop. All of our food was delicious, including the pad kee mao, the eggplant and ground pork dish, and the seafood soup. I picked up food from Thailand's Center Point on my way home from Queens last night. I didn't have a menu and couldn't pull one up online, so I ordered when I got there, went and got cash at citibank on 74 and Broadway (CASH ONLY!), and came back. Originally, I was told my food would take about 20 mins, but it ended up taking 30 despite the fact that there was only one other order put into the kitchen (from another couple getting take-out). Hence the four star rating. The food, though, is 5 star food. I got the Nom Tok with beef (Thai spicy), panang curry with duck (not spicy for my boyfriend), and the green curry with pork (Thai spicy), plus sticky rice, regular rice, and a Thai iced tea. Everything was outstanding! Fragrant, funky, herbaceous, and with plenty of heat. Loved the generous hand with the toasted rice in my salad and the delicious broth in the panang curry. I almost regretted my green curry decision, but it was so yummy that I couldn't complain! Even the Thai iced tea was outstanding. I'll definitely be back (although I'll call my order in in the future... gonna leave a menu in the car!). Cheaper than Sri down the street, and I do appreciate the family owned feeling here (despite the slow food prep). read more

It's always sad to downgrade a spot you used to venerate. But it's never surprising. Good restaurants rarely stay good regardless of price point. Restaurants are businesses, and businesses take shortcuts when they can. To be honest, I would have knocked off another star if a special tom yum with jumbo prawn hadn't been so terrific. Good stock, with lots of galangal, lemongrass and fish sauce. The prawn was sized as advertised. It had two lovely murky green eyes. Presence of the head indicates freshness and probable light sweetness that you don't get with frozen. "Papaya" salad with soft shell crab, also off the specials menu, was far less impressive. That's a rough sign for TCP. If the specials menu is no longer a guarantee of high quality, there's not much reason to return. I might go back. I might not. There's lots of other options in NYC. If you go back, confine your order to the specials menu. If people didn't hate proselytizers and preachers so much, I'd have given a sermon to the trio next to us who was about to order pad see ew. read more

If you're looking for a a cheap Thai place to satisfy your craving for under $10, this is your whole in the wall. It definitely had a mom and pop/family owned restaurant feel as our server was the owner's daughter and there are only about 3-4 tables in the entire restaurant. I tried the beef with garlic & rice lunch special and it was something I'd definitely go back for again. They serve all their lunch specials with a brothy soup & fresh cilantro along with a deep-fried banana roll for desert. My friend also ordered their Thai iced tea and that alone was pretty amazing (highly recommended). You can definitely say you get your money's worth here for the quality of food! read more

We came here because SriPraPhai was closed (apparently it's closed on Wednesdays; we didn't know that). There were so many things wrong with our visit to this place: 1-The wait was awfully long. It took 40 minutes for our food to come out after we ordered; that is unacceptable, especially for such a tiny place (they weren't even that busy). It also took our waitress quite a while to come to our table and take our order. 2-The food portions were really small for the price. 3-The food was bland. We had the fish cakes, pad kee mao noodles, and thai fried rice. The fish cakes were okay, and the sauce that came with it was good (I'm guessing it was duck sauce with cucumbers, nuts, red onions, and chili). However, the texture of the fish cakes was really weird. There was also nothing "fishy" about them; they tasted more like chicken. The rice was the most bland dish out of them all. It had absolutely no flavor. The pad kee mao noodles were okay (probably because we were starved). Nothing to rave about, but they could also use some flavor. Overall, we were pretty disappointed. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes, since this place has pretty good reviews...? Who knows. I won't be back to find out, unfortunately. read more

1. Larb gai (chicken mince salad) on the sweeter side with a good amount of spice and use of red onions cilantro and mint. My only disappointment was the chicken used. While they used white meat some of the more, um...unsavory bits, were included. What I mean is that little weird section of the chicken breast that is nothing but tendon and fat was contained within and quite a bit of it. I tend to be a chicken snob and gross out at the tendon parts, but this is truly authentic where it's included in the dish. So I shouldn't complain. I'm thinking that these bits are probably the cuts that didn't make it into the chicken curry and since macerated meat is contained within the dish they thought it might be able to slide by. I would try this place again but I would not get the larb unless you're into sweeter larb and don't mind chicken tendon bits in high frequency. read more

The atmosphere is quaint and clean. The decor is shabby chic and really cute. The restaurant is small but not crowded-feeling with a few booths and a long buffet-style table and bench. The hostess/waitress was pleasant and patient with our questions. They had plenty of delicious options. I had Chicken Pad Thai (delicious), my husband ate some spicy noodle dish, and my mom had a seafood salad, which she loved. she also said the tea she had was wonderful. The food was so yummy! We arrived as Sripraphai was closing so, trusting yelp, we walked down the street to Thailand Center Point. It definitely has a different feel to other thai restaurants. I felt like we were sitting in the owners front room. One kid was flying video games in a corner and the parents were having drinks with friends with the TV blaring. It was great. We ate several items off the menu, they were pretty spicy, exactly like I want it. If possible I would give it 3.5 stars as it is good, not great. But I really enjoyed it. read more
