Look, you must know what you're getting when you're coming here. Thainery is located in a very casual food court, down a set of weird tiled stairs. I've never ordered anything to go from this spot, just have eaten it down in that dingy basement... Which is to say, even though the place is underground in the belly of the Financial District I'll keep coming! Thainery has the best Thai noodles in the area, and for a decent price. Sure you could go to Osha or another establishment...is that really what you're looking for? I highly recommend the Pad Woon Sen, I like it so much I haven't been able to deviate lately. Good ratio of veggies/meat/noodles all together, great flavor. Did I mention everything is made to order!? Give it a try. This place has Chinese Sausuage Fried Rice as a special! When I was younger Chinese Sausuage, Eggs and rice were staples for me. I'm a momma's boy and this is mom's comfort food cooking. While it can't measure up to mom's cooking (really what can though?) this place delivered on my craving. Beware the lunchtime crowd though. It's right next to the Bibimbar and the Vietnamese stalls so it's a major cluster fudge of people waiting in line and people awaiting their orders. Hidden beneath the streets of downtown SF lies a deceivingly delicious Thai food counter. The FiDi sadly lacks good Thai food, and Food Courts aren't normally where you'd expect to find quality meals, but do not discount Thainery. I tried the chicken basil through MealPal and it was my first positive MealPal experience. The portion size was large and the food was tasty. I've also gotten the pad Thai a couple times and the shrimp were fresh, peeled (thank you) and cooked perfectly. The Thai iced tea is also amazing and not overly sweet. Overall 5 stars because this is an awesome affordable spot in the FiDi. Don't let the odd location deter you, this place is great. read more

This place was recommended by my friend Johnny, who works (and eats hella) in the area so he knows the spots for good eats. I am somewhat of a food critic (at heart) and along my journey for the best Thai food in SF, I came across this exceptional eatery. The pad Thai was amazing and the Tom Yum soup was hella yum, especially on these cold days. Johnny recommended the fried chicken over fried rice and it was the best I've had yet. New thai place that just opened in the food court. I had the Pineapple fried rice $9.95. Menu price said $9.50, I was tricked!!! It took about 10 minutes for me to get my piping hot food. It was decent. Just very basic fried rice with pineapple. I wouldn't say I love or hate this place. I would go to Bibimbar over this. read more

This is one of the few places that seems to still be open in the International Food Court during Covid, so I was relieved and pleasantly surprised that I had some extra options to choose from on my break at work. I was looking for a cheap but tasty Thai restaurant for lunch, and this eatery definitely delivered. I placed a pick-up order over the phone, and within ten minutes my meal of Tofu and Eggplant was ready. The server was very kind and friendly and provided me with utensils for my food. I enjoyed chatting with her, and the food itself was extremely delicious and satisfying. I would gladly come back again the next time I am craving some Thai food. read more

It's not healthy, and it's not the cheapest, but It's a solid spot. The food is made to order, so the wait might be a bit longer than other spots, but that's welcome for some fresher food. The menu isn't expansive, but they're good at what they do. Their fried rice dishes are always on point. They also give generous portions that will leave you satisfied, so the prices are reasonable. The food is a little oily for my taste, but I'll continue to come back. This is not a spot to go for ambiance or the healthiest options. What's good? The food, the amount of food, the prices, the speed of service, and the hot sauces! They do lunch combos of premade food during lunch rush, which is really handy. I tried the ground chicken (delicious), the the yellow curry (also super good), and the pumpkin chicken curry (the potato bits were pretty thick and weren't cooked long enough to be nice and mushy). This was definitely one of those places where I started off with great intentions to only eat about half of the massive amount of food they gave me, then couldn't stop eating and ended up overly-full and happy. I wanted to try this place for the first time. I was very excited to try the chicken yellow curry for lunch. When I got it, it was mainly onions with little curry. It came with a large amount of rice inside the same container as the curry which probably soaked up all the sauce and it was a bit dry. The few amounts of chicken and potato I did eat was pretty good. Although the food did not agree with me at the end, so I wouldn't try this place again. I have tried Thainery few times and I always had great experience. They freshly make the dish in front of you and the turnaround time is quick (usually 10 minutes). I used to go to Osha as there are few in FiDi but lately their food quality doesn't excite me and also they have raised their price. It was a struggle to rip my hungry self away from my Pad See Ew with chicken and type this review. I've been to Thailand and can tell bland, americanized thai food from what it should be. With their wok, Thainery achieved an amazing balance between sweet and salty with their Pad See Ew. There's even a little char on the noodles from the caramelization. Yummmmmm! As if flavor wasn't incentive enough to return, their portion sizes are VERY generous for lunchtime here. Give this place a shot! My review only applies to their freshly prepared dishes. I ordered a single item combo with brown rice and the fish. The fish was a bit too saucy and salty, but satisfying in the way that salty food can be. My issue is with the piece of metal that I found in my food as I was getting to the end. It was not an aluminum foil type of metal. Perhaps their made to order food is good, but I got a 2-item "lunch special" from already prepared items that was barely adequate. The pork curry was prepared with frozen mixed veggies (corn kernels, square carrots, green beans--really?) and had zero heat. The Thai Basil chicken was not horrible but left behind a 1" high puddle of water in the to go container and tasted accordingly thin. If I go back I'll stick to the made to order items. This place is pretty stingy on the substantive part of the meal. It consisted mainly of the rice with just a little of the two dishes. Although the taste was good, the portions are way off. I tried to like it, but I love Thai food and this just wasn't close to the standard I'm used to. like a previous reviewer I ordered the Tom kha noodle soup with shrimp. It could've been the to-go portion, but the soup to noodle ratio was way off. Too many noodles, not enough soup. The soup itself was super thick and way too sweet and creamy for my taste. I was expecting it to be nice and sour. I'm pretty bummed because this location is super close to my office and was priced okay, I think I paid about $10 for what I got. Happened by this place on accident and decided to try it. Ordered a Thai BBQ chicken and they had the nerve to use Costco rotisserie chicken and just throw it on a pan for a couple of minutes, throw some green onions on it and serve me it. Avoid this place. I could get an entire rotisserie chicken at costco for 5 dollars. If you want authentic thai food go somewhere else, this place is a scam. read more

Oh Mi Gersh. i could not have stumbled upon this terrific food in a more round-about way. A young friend asked if his pal could come along on a DogWalk, i said yes. When i sent a foto of this very polite and good-natured pal, surrounded by dogs, his mother replied " I want to bring some Thai food to you." And it was this place. And it was incredible. The rolls were springy and fabulously fresh, they crunched and then popped with the Outta Sight Sauce. The chicken dish had such complex flavor, seamlessly blended into a rich smooth curry that was tangy and creamy all at once. I do not even know the names of the dishes, she had it all packed up for me, warm with perfect rice. I recommend this place, and the owners, wholeheartedly, they are generous with their mad professional skills and they are also kind, with a fine young man they are raising, who is a wonderful companion to people and animals alike. This family is doing all of the right things to run a restaurant in SF. read more
