Cute little Thai restaurant on the side street of University Ave! I order the lunch special string beans with shrimp and tofu. It comes with your choice of brown/white rice, soup and salad. The string bean with shrimp and tofu was tasty. I really like the brown rice mixture. The soup was okay, too simple and plain. They served tofu soup and toss salad with peanut sauce dressing. This place was GREAT. We had a family birthday bash here.  We invited 10 people and we were seated easily and taken care of promptly  So many details to share.  Let me get straight to it. SERVICE: Quick.  Friendly.  A dash of humor and big smiles all around. FOOD: Pretty good.  I eat thai all the time so my standards are quite high.  I would give them 4 stars for food as some dishes were good but not great. DESSERT: We went for the classic mango sticky rice.  PRICE: Reasonable AMBIANCE: I came here with my fiance and several family members, plus one of their little ones.  They all loved it.  Family friendly for sure. 5 STARS for service and ambiance, 4 STARS for food.  If I could give them 4.5 stars I would.  i prefer to round up in this case. I've been to this restaurant once with a couple of friends and loved it! It's generally in a great location except for the fact that it may be hard to find parking. As for the food, we got the egg rolls as an appetizer and were all obsessed with them! As an entree, I got the pad Thai which was awesome and also tried my sister's pad se eew which was also great! entrees unexpectedly good, given our dwindling expectations from... coconut drink - bad. everyone agreed it tasted like corn. ie, coconut that has been sitting forever...somewhere... complementary soup - pretty bad. flavorless. I suggest adding some of the spices they have on the table. thai coffee - yummy, as always. A bit too sweet for my tastes (I wanted more of the coffee to come out), but my friends liked it. green curry salmon - yum! I'd recommend this. lamb curry dish (?) - not many pieces of lamb at all. Stopped in here last week with a group of 7 for lunch. We were seated promptly, under a beautiful skylight. The decor and ambiance of this place is great, I only wish that the food was as impressive. I ordered the Stir-Fried Vegetables (~$8), which came with the tiniest serving of miso soup I've ever received (thank you for watching my sodium intake!), and a typical iceberg salad with a nice peanut dressing on it. The brown rice the dish came with was fantastic, and the highlight of the meal. However, for $10 when all is said and done, the rice can't be all that cuts it. My veggies were primarily bean sprouts, which I never even considered a real vegetable; more of a plant tadpole. I found them a little overwhelming, and could have used more broccoli, zucchini, etc. just to last me through the workday. That said, they did taste pretty darn good. Left satiated, if a little unsatisfied. I would probably go back with a group again, and try something a bit more substantial. The chicken curries and noodle bowls seemed to have more food in them. If you're a vegetarian, I would recommend lunching elsewhere. read more

One of the tastiest & most accommoding we've ever had. The food is made to order & so delcious. They are one of the best flavorful Thai restaurants around the PA/RWC area. Best service. Can't ever get over the attention they give to their clientele. Been there 3 times & they are every time about welcoming you & it is so special in this time. They are we very good about sterilizing all tables etc.. Lychee martini.. bomb diggity. Bbq shrimp; pad si ew...nothing better. Haven't had a bad dish or a bad experience. In my opinion, it's all about the attitude in these trying times. I don't need it & they are so kind... that makes a meal, a restaurant & a worthy experience out of our sanctuaries we've lived in for 6 months. Delivery Thai is a monthly staple of our life, and Thaiphoon seemed like a plausible candidate. But on our first order, it failed the cut. The noodles, salad, and fish cakes were all fine (though none exceptional), but the beef larb was vaguely offensive. The beef was unevenly and badly chopped, and there was little mint or lime to be found, though these are the backbone of a great larb. Really delicious food! The chicken panang curry was lovely, and the stir fried vegetables and vegetable tom-yum soup were both wonderfully veggie-filled and flavorful. Amazingly delicious food, and extraordinarily poor service, at the same time. Despite having made a reservation, they wanted to put us outside, and when they finally agreed to put us inside, they put us right near the door. Then they would occasionally put the door stopper down, making it quite cold, which I would have to get up and deal with. They didn't give us silverware or napkins. When we asked for napkins, they gave us paper napkins, even though there was a big pile of cloth napkins close by. They never gave us full-size dinner plates. And, when the food finally came, which took quite a while, it was delicious. Every bite of it. Exceptional even. So, it's quite the quandry. Fabulous food, but no clue whatsoever about how to make the customer feel valued and well treated. read more

It's a-ok! The service was good! It was a busy friday night, but we didn't wait too long for our food. They also managed to refill our water without asking. The price is reasonable or slightly cheaper for the area but the portion is very small. I love their tom-yun kong soup! It's just perfect sour meet spicy flavor! Talk about crazy odds but after dining at Thaiphoon, I'm confidently gonna say what of the most awesome Thai restaurants in the SF Bay Area region is located in Palo Alto-Menlo Park County Area and damn it man - tbh they give you real food and to it - delicious and true in Thai flavor. I ordered the Seafood Tom Yum Goong had a good amount of prawns, fresh mussels (the large mussels not the small tiny ones) fresh calamari, and flavorful sea scallops with a spicy sour broth that was actually the right balance. The pad kee mao was the right flavor and fried calamari was also loaded in flavor and the pad kee mao did have a load of shrimp. When I'm in the Palo Alto area yea I'm definitely gonna be going back. read more

I've been told that I don't get Thai food enough. I feel as if I'm getting Thai food just the right amount. Everybody has different standards for how often they should get Thai food. Nobody has the right to judge me for the amount I get Thai food because that amount is good for me. If somebody was ordering Thai food everyday, I wouldn't dare think about telling them they can't order that much Thai food. Unless ordering that much Thai food was negatively affecting that person's relationships. What I'm trying to say is that people shouldn't worry about how often other people get Thai food. If I was pushing my Thai food ordering agenda on others, that wouldn't be right, but that's not the case. It's not like I believe everybody should mimic my approach to ordering Thai food. I think it's beautiful that everybody has different beliefs on how often they should get Thai food, that's what makes us so unique. That's why I get upset when people tell me I don't get enough Thai food, I'm not affecting anyone else! I guess that's not entirely true, my Thai food ordering habits are affecting my girlfriend. She says she's not getting her Thai food needs met because all I ever want to do is order Indian or Mexican food. I should probably self reflect more and not take is so personal when people (my girlfriend) tell me I don't order enough Thai food. We got Thai food last night and it was great. read more

We went there tonight, Friday night at about 8 PM. It was not too crowded and we found a seat right away. We were immediately served water and a menu. I had the pad see ew with rice and my friend had the spicy steak salad with rice. Everything was great. We didn't have much but we did have Thai iced coffee which is always yummy. Maybe my mistake was coming here an hour before close but I was not impressed. I ordered yellow curry with veggies instead of meat (13.95), a thai iced tea(4.25), side of brown rice (2.75) and nothing was memorable. The vegetables were hard and undercooked. There were also a few pieces of rotten pumpkin soaking at the bottom, which threw off the whole flavor. The rice and tea were the best part of the meal. The service wasn't the best and it was unclear who my server even was because the service was no consistent. Some worker from the kitchen was face-timing someone and it was a very loud and obnoxious conversation to say the least. Also, beware the prices listed on Google are outdated and everything on their menu in the restaurant is about $2-$4 different. This was probably one of my least favorite Thai meals ever. read more

I have been here a couple times before and found food and service acceptable. Not great, but completely respectable pad thai and other standard Thai stuff. Last time it was pretty bad. Noddle dishes were extremely salty - so much salt that it killed any other flavor. in contrast, soups were so bland that they tasted like hot water and little else. My drink was unacceptable. I was in the mood for a cocktail and ordered an old fashioned (my bad - old fashioned in a Thai restaurant) and it was frankly the worst mixed drink I've had in my entire life: a red concoction with no bourbon at all, crushed ice, and lime?! Service was so mediocre, our server did not pay any attention to us except for glaring at us as we paid and selected tip in the ipad. Alas, not returning. read more

Went out with our friends and originally we're going to eat at Burma Ruby up the street. Saturday night and they were slammed. So we called an audible and went here. Wasn't as loud as other parts of downtown PA on a Saturday night. It was actually the perfect setting to hold a conversation where we could hear each other. Servers were amazingly nice. Food was great. Was nice to have such attentiveness. Everyone is short staffed in the restaurant industry and we appreciate how hard everyone is working and doing the best they can. Place is really meh. We ordered food and drinks, and this is how everything came out: three out of the four meals, then one of the drinks, then the last meal, and then the rest of our drinks. When we asked the server where our drinks were, he said "the drinks are not my responsibility, you need to ask someone else about drinks". Okay... I had the Pad Thai, and honestly, it feels like I went to Walmart and got a package of Annie Chun's Pad Thai off the aisle...except I'll be able to buy a 12 pack of Annie's with the money I spent on one plate here. I don't think I have ever had bad Thai food. It was tasty. The shaken beef was well seasoned and cooked just right. The coconut curry fish sole was also very good. Just enough spice. My only complaint was the rice. It didn't seem that fresh. read more

Thaiphoon i have to admit is a somewhat a small restaurant but its luxurious and comfortable. I've came to this restaurant a couple of times, in both locations of palo alto and mountain view and i have to say that its delicious. The service is fast and neat, and you don't have to wait for a long time to order, receive and check out. I LOVE their shrimp patthai? or however you spell it, and their roti buns with curry. Its a very neat and nice place, good food, nice and fast service. When I'm out with friends or family, I tend to come to this restaurant when I'm not busy. I rate this restaurant a 4-5 read more

Great dinner on the outside patio! Delicious egg rolls and sauce, super fresh veggies with the entrees.

Food was very good, waitress very friendly. We will be back. This was the first day they opened after lock down was lifted.

We just ate here again last night. We've been here a few times over the past few months. I love their lunches, and their dinners are supper nice, especially since they have outdoor seating and the kids can people watch. The park is nearby and so is dessert so this place is rapidly taking over our old standby, New Krung Thai. Thaiphoon is a nice little restaurant with polite, efficient service. The hosts are always very accommodating on seating. The lunch menu is extensive, and most meals (consisting of soup, salad, main course, and rice) cost around $8-$10. Dinner is a little spendier, but worth the price since the food amount is larger. In all, great little place! read more

My boyfriend and I order from here all the time because it's conveniently close by. We typically keep it simple. Recently we decided to go in and have an early dinner at the restaurant. We ordered the Seafood Pad Thai with crab and prawns and Mongolian Beef. The "crab" in the Pad Thai looked and smelled like wet cat food, topped with two very sad pieces of shrimp. Needless to say we were quite underwhelmed. We mutually agreed not to order that specifically anymore and move on. So today we order and have dinner delivered, as well as a Thai Tea. The Door Dasher apparently forgot our tea or didn't pick it up from the restaurant. I called the restaurant to see if I could come by and pick one up because of this. I didn't think it'd be any issue since this was clearly out of our control and it's a restaurants job to keep customers satisfied (especially regulars) or so I thought... The woman on the phone tells me that on their camera they saw the dasher take it and because of that, I would need to contact DoorDash to have a refund. Um what??? So instead of just allowing me to get another tea for free so I can enjoy my dinner, I am expected to now call an 800 number and complain for a refund? Mind you, a Thai Tea is $4.65... this woman really thought that four dollars and sixty five cents was worth that kind of trouble for me instead of just doing something simple to keep a regular customer happy. I really contemplated going in and speaking with the manager on this but again it's all for four dollars and sixty five cents and I'm not going to go all "Karen crazy" for a drink when the employee was clearly in the wrong. We will never eat here or order from here again. Absolutely terrible customer service! Oh, and as a reminder DON'T order the Seafood Pad Thai with "crab" -- If you want wet cat food, you can find it at Walmart for 75¢ a can read more

Really delicious food and great portion sizes. The service is quick and efficient. They are available when needed, but won't bother you with questions about your food and experience every five minutes. My favorites on the menu are the Kang Pah and the Moo Pad Ped -- the perfect spiciness level with plenty veggies along with the protein. Highly recommend this local favorite! read more

My Thai restaurant list is currently overweighted in 2 and 3-star places, with only a smattering of 4 and 5 star spots. Is it me, or is it just the bay area? So I had some trouble getting inspired to write a review of Thaiphoon, since it seemed to be another in a growing line of average Thai spots. Prices were average to high. Decor was nice; the service was also friendly. But I found the food to be just so-so: -- Green curry chicken: ($8.75) Off the lunch specials menu. Average at best. 3 stars -- Pumpkin curry: ($9.50). Not on the lunch menu, but they said try could do it. And it was a good rendition, if not the best. 3.5 stars -- Mango chicken: ($9.50) On the 'house specials' list but this wasn't all that special; seemed more Chinese than Thai to me. Basically chicken and mango sauteed together in oyster sauce or similar. Quite boring; Not a repeat order. 2.5 stars. -- Pad see ew: ($8.65) pretty good version w/ crisp vegetables. 3.5 stars. I would eat here again if the Thai craving overcame me, but it wouldn't be my first choice. In this area of Palo Alto area, I prefer Bangkok Cuisine or Siam Royal. read more

I have been MIA for a while so let me catch you up: I had a baby (she's 9 months) Work has been crazy. I have a new perspective on eating out as a new mother. Healthy options that are family friendly are a must! This is the most atrocious Thai food I have ever had. I ordered through DoorDash so of course the prices were inflated and items were missing. I ordered the chicken won ton soup. I loved the spinach but the broth was as bland as a plain, white wall. No flavor what so ever. I was starving so I ate the won tons and spinach but would have liked to chug the broth but it was basically colored water so I threw it out. I also the ordered the pad Thai with shrimp and extra peanuts. I did not receive the shrimp or peanuts which was a bummer. The noodles again had no flavor and just didn't taste good. The Thai tea tasted like it was batch made and had been sitting at room temp since the AM, and then poured of ice: Spoiled, bitter and watery. The only thing I like about this experience was how they packaged the food. It arrived hot with no spills or leaks. For a Thai place, this place has no flavor or character. I would not go back to this place and I certainly wouldn't order through DoorDash, as they inflate the price and have a delivery fee so I refuse to pay extra for terrible food. read more
