    Kao Soi Curry
    Phoebe L.

The ambiance was really nice! Also, the servers were helpful and friendly. The kao soi was yummy, and the noodles were perfectly cooked. However, the tamarind fish really stood out! The sauce was so good, but I wish it were larger for the price (especially considering rice was separate). The drinks were good too!!

I grabbed dinner here with a friend as we were starving and wanted thai food. We ordered pad thai with tofu and pinnacle rice with tofu. The pad thai could've used a bit more sauce and I wish it had more of the acidity. The pineapple fried rice was expected. The staff were friendly and accommodating. They were great with filling up our waters.

    Tom Yum seafood combination soup

This is a comfortably upscale restaurant in downtown P.A., however I think the ambiance at Thaiphoon supercedes the stuff that emerges from the kitchen. Tom Yum seafood combination seafood dinner was a hot and tangy broth. Garnished with fresh lime juice, it also contains lemongrass, mushrooms, and roasted peppers. Pot of soup can feed three or four people and was plenty for our small group. The shrimp were fine, but the large mussels and chunks of squid were not tender -- maybe amateurishly executed and just over cooked. That made the soup, as a whole, not successful or tasty. If all the seafood could have been cooked, seasoned and prepped so that they came out better, the Tom yum would have been enjoyable. Pot stickers are comprised of five pieces with pork, ginger, leek, and seasoning; they are served with soy based dipping sauce. Menu didn't indicate these are deep fried so that the wrappers are all puffy and al dente. Definitely not your Chinese style pot stickers, but I have no idea if it's typical Thai recipe or just the restaurant's own. I would have requested friends chosen something else, had I known how they're cooked.. but even for what they turned out to be, they could have been tastier. Presentation of all the dishes is lovely. No issues at all with service, as the waiter was nice friendly and accommodating. So maybe we didn't try the best things off their menu, but Thaiphoon fell short for me, on the food.

The Wife and I were checking out menus in PA for an impromptu dinner date. We leaned into the porch at Thaiphoon, and then asked for a table even without seeing the menu, because they were playing actual Thai pop music, which The Wife loves. They call themselves pan-Asian, but I thought it was 90% Thai. For example, they had a lamb saag and a couple Chinese dishes. We ordered some standard fare: tofu and veggie spring rolls, pad see ew, and a specialty seafood Thai basil. I asked for no calamari, so it had plenty of shrimp, scallops and even mussels, which were not noted on the menu. All of the dishes were very well done. There was a single green chili of some kind in my dish, with all the seeds still attached. Presumably it was there for adding heat, but I stupidly ate it, and regretted it. I also had a gewurztraminer, which was fairly sweet, but paired very well. Dessert was roti with a sweet glaze. Small, but really yummy (and inexpensive). The Wife had fun chatting with the host about Thai music and TV. It was a fine evening.

Had tickets to a show in Palo Alto so Made dinner reservations here for two at 6 PM. There is street parking and an adjacent parking lot. I got lucky with a nearby spot with I think 3 hours Free parking. The restaurant had ample greenery, and a warm vibe. Service was attentive and helpful, She let me know if she could make almost anything vegetarian if prompted. I started with Lychee ice tea, which was slightly sweet, and very refreshing, with caffeine. For an appetizer we ordered the Golden eggplant which was crispy and tasty. For my entree I ordered the pumpkin red curry with tofu and a side of steamed rice. I loved the velvety curry, and it had plentiful vegetables and pumpkin. My cousin enjoyed her chicken pad see ewe. I would come back-- Especially given the vegetarian possibilities!!

Solid spot for Thai food, great location on University Ave and very comfortable clean ambiance. Lots of seating both indoor and outdoor and really attentive service. Got seated as a party of 7 immediately for a Tuesday dinner. Decent portion sizes, got the pad see ew chicken and it was very filling. I got spice level 4/5 which I would probably say is a typical medium spice level.

Owned by a winner of a reality cooking competition, it makes sense why it is priced at a premium, and with that follows pleasantly attentive service, innovative dishes, and comfy seating. I found the food to be generally pleasant, and the only thing that is unpleasant is their proximity to the train station that interrupts conversation on an intervalized basis. Old Siam - I see the vision of this luxury take on an old fashioned, which is flavorally accurate. I think the garnish is a bit too simple beyond the block ice to properly convey that look. Roti Mataba - Intriguing dish as I've never seen roti used to encapsulate before, but its smart as it creates a flaky exterior that pairs incredibly well with the curry sauce. Pad See Ew - Large portion of a classic dish that is served on the lighter side but still tasty. I would clean up on the presentation though. Mango Sticky Rice - Beautiful arrangement of mango sticky rice that shows great knife skills of the mango. You can see the heart shape starting to form of the sticky rice as well, which is beautiful. I think it coild be even more advantageous to use rose to dye for a more warming color palette. They were pretty one-note in flavor and felt underwhelming. The crab fried rice and Panang braised beef were both enjoyable, but neither dish was particularly memorable or something I'd go out of my way to order again. The braised beef itself was tender, but it was served in large chunks that didn't make for the most appetizing presentation. The Thai iced tea was also noticeably sweeter than what I'm used to, which may work for some people but wasn't my preference. One thing that stood out for the wrong reason was the pacing of the meal. Our crab fried rice arrived first, followed by the curry puffs, and then the Panang beef came out last. The timing felt disjointed, especially since you'd expect the appetizers to arrive before the entrées. The biggest issue, though, is the value. The prices are on the higher end for Thai food, and when the overall experience is just average, it's hard to justify the cost. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. Overall, it was an okay meal, but with so many great Thai restaurants around, I don't see myself coming back.

First Visit - Nearly 5 Stars On my first visit, I ordered: * Beet Poke * Mushroom Bao * Kale Caesar Salad with Falafel The beet poke was fantastic. It was fresh, light, and packed with seaweed, with a delicious dressing that brought everything together. There were great textures and flavors, and I would have happily ordered it again. The mushroom bao was another standout. The mushroom was perfectly fried, tucked inside a soft, fluffy bao, and topped with a tangy slaw. Great combination of crispy, soft, savory, and acidic. The kale Caesar salad was also delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. At this point, I was thinking 5 stars and was excited enough to come back the very next day. Second Visit - A Different Experience I ordered: * Beet Poke * Mushroom Bao * Kale Caesar Salad * Potato Pizza Unfortunately, things were much more inconsistent. The beet poke was probably the biggest disappointment. There was barely any seaweed, very little textural contrast, and the dressing tasted completely different from the day before. It was also barely dressed. If this had been my first experience with the dish, I honestly would not have ordered it again. The mushroom bao was still good, but it didn't taste the same as the previous day. The slaw was noticeably spicy this time, whereas it hadn't been spicy at all on my first visit. It made me wonder if there were different chefs or if the recipes/preparations simply weren't being followed consistently. The kale Caesar was the one dish that remained consistent, still delicious on day two. The potato pizza was underwhelming and definitely something I wouldn't order again. The flavor combo wasn't working with me. We also got the gluten free crust which was not great. Almost more of a cracker than a pizza crust. The Verdict: If I were reviewing this restaurant based only on my first visit, I would have given it 5 stars. The food was fresh, creative, flavorful, and genuinely memorable. But after coming back the very next day and having several dishes taste noticeably different, I had to take a few stars away. I'm not sure if there were different chefs, different prep, or something else going on behind the scenes, but consistency is such a key part of a great restaurant experience, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. When a dish is fantastic one day and just okay the next, it's hard to know what experience you're actually going to get. The ambience is great, and while the service was friendly, it was also a bit slow. Overall, I still see the potential here, and my first visit was genuinely excellent. I just wish the second visit had lived up to it.

While the portion sizes are on the smaller side for the price point, the overall dining experience makes it well worth it on occasion. The restaurant has a beautiful, upscale yet bright and reasonably kid-friendly indoor ambiance. Booking online is seamless, and parking is incredibly easy right underground in the Springline lot. The cocktails are good, and you absolutely cannot go wrong with the tea leaf salad, the roti pratha with coconut chicken curry, and the garlic chili prawns. The garlic noodles and fried rice can be a bit hit-or-miss; we have had visits where they are packed with flavor, have a perfect texture, and are a massive hit with the kids, but other times they have turned up a bit bland or with mushy noodles. The manager and staff are friendly and welcoming, and the manager has gone out of their way to accommodate our walk-in group on at least two occasions. My biggest tip is to avoid booking the outdoor seating. It consists of only one or two tables situated right on El Camino Real, making it way too noisy to enjoy your meal. Stick to the gorgeous indoor dining room or bar seating for a solid meal.

The restaurant is lively and loud, with walls adorned with cool art highlighting Vietnamese culture. The menu and prices reflect the upscale nature of the cuisine - you can have Wagyu for Pho or Shaking Beef. It reminds me of Slanted Door in San Ramon, only Tamarine has better food and selections: 1. Shaking Beef - a must-get dish, and the default filet mignon beef cooked medium is still super soft and juicy. 2 Chicken wontons - the appetizer is a riff on the Sichuan style red chili oil pork wontons and is just as good. The ground chicken really works here. 3 Green Papaya Salad is okay, but the standout it the beef jerky which is excellent - our 6yo gobbled all of it. 4. Clay Pot Cod - super flakey, soft and moist and packed with sweet-savory flavors. A luxurious fish best eaten with Jasmine rice, which comes nicely steamed in a large banana leaf. 5. The Hoisin-Land Chops cooked medium were good, but still somewhat fatty with some pink parts. Maybe medium well would have been better. 6. Basil Tofu - excellent appetizer - crispy soft tofu and aromatic crispy basil leaves. 7. Roti Banh Mi - basically a buttery, crispy Roti with curry-like dip - no beef flavors or pickled elements. Its beyond me what its called Banh Mi. 8. Lastly, save room for dessert - a slice of Hojicha Burnt Creme Cheese Cake with Strawberry Compote. Tamirine has a beautiful, sophisticated dining room and the food presentation fits the upscale Vietnamese concept. However, the experience starts before a guest ever sits down, and that is where management has an opportunity to improve. When guests arrive, they should be greeted promptly and acknowledged, rather than left waiting outside, especially in the heat. Even if the restaurant is not ready to seat them immediately, a simple greeting such as, "Welcome, we'll be right with you," goes a long way. It communicates that the guest has been seen and that the team is in control. This is also where strong SOPs and management follow-through become important. For an upscale restaurant, the arrival and greeting process should be clearly defined: who greets the guest, how quickly they should be acknowledged, what happens when there is a wait, and how guests are communicated with while they wait. SOPs only work when management consistently trains, observes, coaches, and enforces them. Having procedures written down is not enough. Leaders need to make sure the team is actually executing them during every shift, particularly during busy periods. The restaurant has the setting and concept to deliver a premium experience. The next step is making sure the service standards consistently match the environment and price point. Management should remember: the guest experience begins at the front door, not when the food reaches the table.

OTHER NOTES: * Tam Sang is a partnership between James Beard Award Winning Chef Andy Ricker (Pok Pok) and Local Kitchens (micro food hall). * Small Northern Thai Menu: Khao Soi (coconut curry chicken noodle soup), Red Curry, and Tam Sang Thai-style Wings (that are supposed to taste like the Pok Pok wings). * Available at select Local Kitchen locations: Palo Alto, Cupertino, Lafayette, and Mill Valley locations only. * Ordered online and my order was ready in less than 9 minutes (received text when ready for pick-up). * Indoor and dog-friendly outdoor seating. Delivery is available. * Easy street, lot, and garage parking.

"Tam Sang" is a menu choice at Local Kitchens in Palo Alto, CA…read more I was in the area, so I came down to California Ave to try the latest addition to the Local Kitchens menu lineup. Using the Local Kitchens App, I ordered: - Tam Sang Crispy Chicken Wings (6), $14.95 ($17+ after taxes and service fee) The online menu says: "Thai-style chicken wings, topped with fried shallot. Served with Sri-Rancha dressing and smoky sweet chili sauce." Now, these are excellent deep fried wings. They're juicy, meaty and crispy. A little pricey at 6 for $14.95.....$17+ after taxes and fees (using LK App). But the problem is the words...."Thai-Style chicken Wings." Thai-Style suggests they were marinated in fish sauce. There's no unique flavor. The dips are good, but anyone can include give you sweet chili sauce and Sri-Rancha dressing. So how are these wings Thai Style? Service was quick and polite. I waited in the lobby of the restaurant, and the staff member called my name before the status board updated. The place was pretty quiet for a Friday night. The dining room was neat and clean. I always pickup my own food at Local Kitchens, so my review is for food fresh from the on-site kitchen. ------------------------------------------ MISC Notes: Local Kitchens@ Palo Alto has an indoor dining room, and outdoor seating. California Ave is still closed to traffic. Free parking at 350 Sherman St parking complex which is 1/2 block away.
