We came on a Monday around noon and parking was very difficult. I had to drive around the lot for a bit before I found an open space after someone just left. And these spots are small! We were seated right away and a gentleman came to take our order. All of the staff were nice. I hadn't had a broken rice dish in a while so I was craving it today. I got the rice with a pork chop and egg cake, etc.. it was nothing extraordinary, but it was edible and decent. The pork chop was a little dry for my liking. The rest of the items were fine. Stopped by Thanh My Restaurant in Westminster for a quick meal. While the venue has a lot going for it logistically, the food left a bit to be desired on this visit. The Food: Chicken Phở: The chicken for the phở was served on a separate plate steamed, which was nice, but unfortunately, it felt undercooked as there was still some visible blood near the bone. Chicken Fried Rice: It was okay, but definitely not amazing or memorable--lacked that distinct wok flavor or seasoning you look for in a great fried rice. The Menu: They have a huge menu with a ton of traditional options to choose from, so there's plenty of variety if you want to try other dishes. The Pros & Atmosphere: Quick Service: The staff was highly efficient, and the food came out very fast. Solid staple of an institution in an area where there's a plethora of Vietnamese dine ins to choose from. It's apparently been opened for decades and withstood the test of time, which is saying something considering how tough the food business is around here where it's so saturated -- you can tell that this is a local's spot with regulars. The food was fresh, meats nicely grilled, and the fish sauce was nice and funky. The egg rolls and calamari you can tell were freshly fried and crispy. They have an extensive menu with a variety of things to order/choose from. Service was quick/efficient and the owner was very kind and attentive. I was told about this place from my mom. After an event, she suggested we'd come here and we came with our friends. There is much parking, no need to pay for the parking either. It is on a busy street so turn into the parking lot cautiously. The establishment outside is gorgeous just as the inside. It smells so delicious coming in. Were greeted right away and got seated quickly. They gave us our menus and let us browse for a few minutes and when coming back they took our orders. We had ordered water to accompany our dishes. My mom and I were able to use our Vietnamese with our server and he corrected us where needed when we ordering our food. Much appreciated to our server (I didn't catch his name). We apologized and he said it was okay. I like how they speak both english and Vietnamese here. I had ordered their Cơm Chiên Bó Lúc Lắc, on their Menu it's number E2. In english the food item is cubed filet mignon on a bed of lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. You have the option of steamed or fried rice. I ordered my dish with steamed rice. It was delicious! The filet mignon was rich in taste and tender. Each bite better than the last. It was my first time here and definitely will want to try some other items. THANH MY RESTAURANT @ WESTMINSTER Parking is available right out front, and it was actually pretty easy to snag a spot on a Saturday night. My family and I were craving some good Vietnamese food, and this place popped up online and looked really promising, especially because their menu is huge with so many different options. We were seated pretty quickly, and we started off with the chicken wings, the garlic butter dish, and a fish tomato soup. The soup was honestly incredible, definitely a 10/10 and probably the highlight of the entire meal. I also ordered the Chè Ba Màu, which is usually a colorful three-layer dessert drink with beans, jelly, and coconut milk. Unfortunately, this one did not live up to expectations at all. Half the cup was just packed with mushy beans, barely any jelly, and mostly milk. It didn't even have the signature colorful layers. I politely asked if they could remake it, but they literally just poured the same drink into another cup and handed it back to me. One of the staff members also seemed annoyed and told me it was "supposed to look like that." I've had this drink many times before, and it has never been like this, so that experience was definitely disappointing. The chicken wings had good flavor, but they were extremely overcooked and dry. Overall, the staff also weren't the friendliest during our visit. That being said, the soup alone would honestly make me come back because it was that good. I've been coming here for over 20 years, ever since I first moved to Orange County and finally I writing a review, because I truly want to support this place and hope they continue to maintain their quality and reasonable prices. This spot is an institutional staple in the Little Saigon area, having been run by the same family for nearly 50 years. It's a go-to place for classic, traditional Vietnamese home-style cooking. While I wouldn't call it exceptional, the food is solid and comforting. Exactly what you would expect from a long-standing neighborhood restaurant. The restaurant is on the smaller side and can get quite packed. Our party of nine made a reservation, and they had the table ready for us upon arrival, which we appreciated. The main issue, however, was with the corkage fee. We had called ahead and were quoted $15 per bottle, which I noted before making the reservation. At the restaurant, we were instead charged $20 per bottle, even though we brought our own glassware and openers. Service was somewhat inconsistent. At times it felt attentive, but there were long stretches where no one came by to clear plates or provide bowls and extra plates unless we specifically asked. Toward the end of the meal, Anthony (the owner) came over to speak with us, which was a kind gesture. Good family style restaurant if you are looking for other things than pho. They have a wide selection of food that is good across the board. You can even mix and match family style with personal orders. We had family style for 3 (plenty for 4 people) plus 2 bowls of individualized shrimp/grilled beef bun and egg roll/grilled beef bun. Both bun were solid. As for family style, we got caramelized catfish, stir fried green beans and beef, hot and sour shrimp soup, and stir fried Chinese spinach with garlic. Recently, I found out they offer party trays, so I decided to order three trays for a family gathering: chicken wings, garlic noodles with shaken beef, and salt-and-pepper shrimp. Each tray was $45. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the portions. The chicken wing tray came with only 24 wings. The garlic noodles looked like a single serving--something one person could easily finish. The salt-and-pepper shrimp tray was equally underwhelming, and all of the tray was filled with lettuce garnish. More garnishment than food. I ended up having to order and prepare additional food to make sure there was enough for everyone. Needless to say, I won't be ordering party trays from here again. Comes with celery, beansprouts, elephant ear stalks, and a generous portion of catfish. Unfortunately comes in a bowl and not in a pot, so your soup doesn't stay hot throughout the meal. I was introduced to Thanh My by my nail lady. Not to be redundant but of course she's Vietnamese. We were talking and I mentioned how my family go-to Com Phan - Family Style meal spot was closed, and she recommended me to Thanh My. It's a pretty busy plaza and parking can be tight. I came alone while I was already in the area for a haircut, so I did not have the full family meal sets. With the chilly weather I decided to get the Canh Chua ($18.95) which is the Tamarind Soup. This comes with shrimp or fish, which I opted for the fish. My nail lady warned me that they make it extra sour here, so just ask for it to be a tad less sour. Nice pro tip! Inflation definitely hit but I was pleased to see there was a generous amount of fish. The soup was very tasty and the flavor was on point. The vegetables had a nice sweetness to them in contrast to the sourness of the soup base. I felt so bad cause I must have ordered the last fish portion of the day. A few guests after me were urged to get the shrimp instead cause they ran out of the fish that goes with this soup. Something about their shipment not arriving yet. If I was with even one more person, it would have been a better deal to get their traditional Family Meals. For instance the 2 people portion comes with 3 dishes at $33.95, and this soup is one of those three courses. Totally a better deal! My rice place was bland and I used almost half of the little pitcher of fish sauce they gave me. The meat in the pho had an off putting odor, same with the water.
