We've dined her twice (pre-pandemic) and have ordered takeout a couple of times now. Safe to say that The '401 is becoming one of our favorites! The only thing I've ever tried is the Vegan Mediterranean Fusion Bowl and let me just tell you it is tasty AF. I wasn't expecting much based on the description, a veggie bowl is a veggie bowl to me. But each component of the colorful melange of plant-based ingredients is perfectly roasted and cooked to bring out their unique flavors. I was honestly surprised how delicious the bowl was. I would not hesitant to recommend this to omnivores out there - it will not disappoint you! There's plenty of other vegetarian and vegan options that I should probably get around to trying, but the Fusion Bowl is just too good to stray from! There's also plenty of gluten and nut-free options for those of you with dietary restrictions. My rather picky toddler has had the Chicken Alfredo and he's always eagerly eaten it. It ends up being two or three meals for him too, so yay for that! The only "con" is that The '401 has forgotten to include our kid's drink and cookie both of the times we've ordered it as takeout, so just be sure to check your to-go orders when you're picking them up! read more

Came here for date night and everything was absolutely delicious. The lemon pasta seems like a simple dish - but it was still very good. I would also highly recommend the baked goat cheese for an appetizer. I love the little jam and nuts that they put on the side for it. It's a unique combination, but it just works. Went here for a late lunch and sat on the patio. Had a great experience. We ordered the siracha chicken wings for appetizers, a burger, and the vegan Mediterranean fusion bowl. The wings were hot (spicy) and straight out of the fryer. Delicious! Portions for main entrees were huge. The burger was perfectly medium rare and good seasoned fries. I thoroughly enjoyed my fusion bowl. Service was prompt and friendly. I didn't get a chance to try their cocktails but will definitely have to try next time. read more

I stumbled upon The '401 while looking for a place to take my husband for a birthday brunch after church. Usually brunch places can get pretty packed so I wanted to find a place where you can make reservations in advance. My husband wanted brunch but he also wanted a molten chocolate lava cake so I needed to find a place that had both, lol. Right away I noticed it wasn't crowded at all, looked clean, and had a nice atmosphere. Even though we made a reservation in advance, we really didn't need it. There is a bar area inside and they had a nice drink menu for brunch. They had some yummy looking meals on the menu and we both enjoyed our food. I had the egg croissant sandwich and he had "The Traditional" eggs and bacon. My husband especially liked the bacon, haha - they were some decent and hardy slices. Sort of random note about the lava cake: my husband loves the chocolate molten lava cake from Chili's, but I feel like Chili's isn't as clean and well-run as it used to be, unfortunately. We gave the lava cake at The '401 a try and it was the closest one we've had to the one from Chili's. It had hot fudge in the center and ice cream on top... the only thing it was missing was the hard chocolate shell on the ice cream. It still had a chocolate drizzle though. Super yummy. Also, I really like that Yelp has a new feature (or at least new to me) where you can search for restaurants by the ability to make a reservation for a certain number of people on a certain day/time. I REALLY like this restaurant. It's located in Bellaire, Texas on Faris Street. Right behind the big HEB next to a juice bar. There is a store front parking lot in front. And valet is available as well. Both times that I've dined here there was not a wait for a table. But when leaving both times. I did see that people were waiting to be seated. Lately I've been on my Keto diet. So I've kind of limited to what I can and cannot eat. This place is perfect for people on Keto as well for people who aren't. They have great salads, and cauliflower grits (which are so delicious by the way). My first visit. I got the Shrimp with Cauliflower Grits. When I took my first bite, I knew this was young to be one of my regular restaurants. The service was great as well. The hosts was very friendly and the wait staff was very knowledgeable of the menu items. We never had to wait for our drinks to be refilled and our orders were correct. There's also a full bar. And the restaurant is child friendly. So bring the whole family. The atmosphere in this place give a really positive energy. Favorites: Shrimp and cauliflower grits, caramelized onion dip, Colonial Cobb salad, Brussels sprouts and goat cheese salad. This is definitely a place that should be checked out. read more

Stopped by with a contractor after an appointment with a new client. Everybody was hungry, and we needed to get all of our ducks in a row for this project . The 401 was found by them on Yelp, and I eagerly agreed as I have been here before after golfing. Two of us had their fire, roasted pizzas, I had the margarita pizza and she had the four mushroom pizza... Both of those disappeared pretty quick the third had a hamburger and said it was one of the best hamburgers he had had in a while. The 401 has such a wide variety on its menu, and on it's drink menu as well, which makes it a great place just to hang out or have a good full blown meal. The service is always great never hovering, but always checking to make sure that everything is good to go. We actually sat out on the patio which is probably lucky because it's probably the last day in Houston for a while before we can do that as we are now hitting 93 in the middle of the day. The main dining area and bar are brightly lit with vintage signage and pictures. A very comfortable place to hang out with friends, family or colleagues. I am sure I will be trying more of their menu now that I have a job nearby, and I look forward to it!!!! read more

Great brunch spot in Bellaire for small or large parties and you can get seated immediately on a Sunday without a reservation. I know I am supposed to focus on the food when reviewing, but I am going to begin with the fact that this restaurant has a play room for kids with a tv, raeding area, couches, toys, a technology section with tablets with Roblex, and an attendant who supervises the kids. What a win? Ok. Now on to the food. The appetizers were bomb. The entrées were ok. My crab cake benedict was not seasoned to my liking as well as mu husband's steak sandwich. I came here on a mo day and place a to go order. Even o. A Monday dinning lunch time there was a good size crowd. I was attended to right away. I ordered the power bowl and added blacken salmon. I was hesitant because other well known yelpers had meals from.here that they stated could have been better. However I decided to ask what was the best and went with the power bowl. When my food was ready they bought it to my car all within 12 minutes. As the bag entered my car the amazing aroma knocked me it. It smells so delicious and thankfully it tasted amazing as well. Every single thing was delicious. The faffle was crispy and the dipping sauce was a great pair. Salmon was cooked just right. Total was $24.53 and the portion was huge so I was glad. Excellent menu options and great service for takeout ordering! I called in half an hour before closing to see if I could order to go. The guy said he'd check with the kitchen and let me know - within a minute he was excited to report that the chef had agreed to this last order - thanks for making my night, guys!! They said it would be ready in 15 minutes and indeed it was - the server even offered me a drink to go after I paid. A keen tap water aficionado, I asked for a cup of ice water to go and he happily set off to prepare a to go cup for me. Not for nothing, their tap water is really good. When I got back to my hotel I was happy to dive into the shrimp and cauliflower grits - the ratio of shrimp to grits was a tad bit off but I love cauliflower so I'm not complaining! It probably could have used one or two more pieces of shrimp to up the protein value, however. I wouldn't mind paying extra for that in the future. My experience at 401 was very balanced in that I saw plenty they did well and also some things to work on. I sat down on a Saturday at noon. Very slow for a place that seems brunchy, but I like slow. I was greeted promptly. Throughout waiting for my meal, the same guy who greeted me got into an argumentative mood in the open air kitchen (so that everybody dining could hear his frustrations). That made the waiting tense and had me thinking one thing; this food better be fire if I just had to listen to this server go off on his coworkers. So my food arrived and the portion was huge for the price. I got the fried chicken sandwich with fries that were seasoned perfectly. The sandwich was huge, but honestly, so many places in Houston knock out the fried chicken sandwich that the one at 401 did not stand out Overall everything was good, but I did wish I went somewhere else. read more

I love this place. I have lunch here all by myself every Monday. When I feel sad about the week starting on Sundays, I remember that I get to have my favorite lunch on Monday. I always ask to sit in Dolores's section. She knows what I am going to order and she is just really pleasant and friendly. I like her, and I like my wine (I think it is called Elouan? I don't know- ask Dolores!) and I love my gluten free mango and shrimp pizza. Whenever it is my turn to choose where we will go for date night, I always always choose this place. We were looking for a place to eat in the Houston area and came across, "The '401". It had overall good reviews and the food looked appetizing from the pictures. The service was fine, but the food was mediocre. We ordered the Kabob Plate, the meat was overcooked and unsalted/unseasoned. Next, the Gyro Plate, where the meat was flavorful but cut too thick. The OG Burger and the Kid's Cheeseburger were very good in comparison to the other plates we ordered. However, the side fries were subpar and had no flavor and appeared to be cold in some bites. This is one of those cool high-end foods casual dressing location. Made reservations sat down instantly when we got there. Took our drink orders got them back in a timely matter. When you look around the ambience of the restaurant is really cool and rustic. Everybody was nice and friendly. The only thing I didn't like some of the seats were really close so when I backed up I was bumping into somebody. But besides that the food was excellent. Everything was perfectly seasoned. There was nothing I didn't like and I tried everybody's plate. I do want to go back and try to cheeseburger because my granddaughters cheeseburgers flavor was spectacular. Really refreshing and I love that there are so many different options on the menu from American to Mediterranean. I had the Mango Avocado Chopped Salad w/ salmon and it was amazing big chunks of avocado and mango and very filling. My friend had the power bowl w/ chicken and I was able to try a patty which was really good and tasted close to a falafel. The Jalapeño Hummus was fresh and had chunks of jalapeño mixed in which was not too overwhelming. We added the cucumbers and carrots which was really yummy. The strawberry mimosa was also perfectly refreshing for the nice spring say we had out on the patio. Definitely a place I will be visiting often! read more

Just got home from The 401. We have been there many times and have always enjoyed it. Not tonight. Cajun chickpeas delicious as always. My house salad was very good. Husband's etouffee, he did not like it. The "roux" was thin, watery, and had no seasoning. He refuses to ever complain or send anything back. My pepperoni pizza: this is the worst pizza I have ever been served. I picked up a slice and it went vertical. The most under cooked crust ever. The sauce and the pepperoni had NO flavor. I had no idea this place existed until I was invited for brunch on a random Saturday. The restaurant is tucked away, but what a hidden gem! Parking is no problem as there's open parking in the plaza. The venue and space inside is nicer than I expected (although I had no expectations). There's a nice bar area and plenty of patio space available. Service was wonderful and attentive! I only ordered the following: Mimosa flight - I had the flight of grapefruit, strawberry, and raspberry. They were wonderful and it was the perfect ratio of juice and champagne! Such a cute, laid back spot for Happy Hour, lunch, dinner! My favorite part of dining here was the outside patio; it's huge with ample amounts of shade. The covered section can be reserved for a private party. We thoroughly enjoyed our waitress, Stephanie! She kept a smile on her face a suggested drink and food recommendations that were actually really good! My friend and I shared the Happy Hour portion of quesadillas which is the perfect size for 2. Great service, fresh food and very family friendly restaurant. They have a cute kids area where kids can color, watch tv or play on tablets. They have an employee monitor the children off and on. The only feedback I have for the kids area would be to put a window where you can peek in and see what your kids are doing. Obviously if you have toddlers, you would need to go in there with them but for older children, it would be nice to peek in.
