It wasn't too strong, but you could taste the alcohol and there was a good balance between the alcohol and fruit flavor. It was smooth. DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT- st george vodka, chili, lime, and mint The sister ordered this and it wasn't what I was expecting. I really like how smooth it is and the spice. I met some business colleagues here for lunch a few days ago. The menu is a bit "eclectic" with everything from Cajun to Mediterranean to a fusion of the two, but everything was good. I had a gyro that was very tasty, while the others had tacos and other menu options. Everybody raved about their lunches. The place looked very clean and the service was spot on. Though didn't really felt like there was need for reservation as we could have just walked in and got a table. The staff was friendly and gave good recommendations. I was pleasantly surprised of the healthy options this place has. We wanted to try something new locally and stumbled upon this place. We came on a Sunday weekend so it was pretty busy! The interiors were modern and had a good amount of seatings. For appetizer, we had the smoky spinach artichoke dip. It was a decent-sized dip where I do recommend sharing with other people. The dip was creamy and good. We ordered the tropical mango salad and vegan Mediterranean fusion bowl for the entrees. They were both refreshing! I like the light dressing on the mango salad as well as the amount of ingredients in the bowl. I felt content after finishing the salad. The fusion bowl is a little more fulfilling with the rice so if you are a hungry person, this is a good option. Pricing wise, our bowls were $12-13. Great food, variety of options. We went to celebrate my daughters birthday. They have a room just for the tweens to lounge around and play. Brunch is my favorite meal of the day. Especially when it includes a mimosa flight. Service was delightfully fantastic. The staff sang happy birthday and treated my daughter with dessert. On this particular visit the valet was outstanding! It was pouring, they were soaked, and patrons would go outside to give the guys their valet tickets. We enjoyed our brunch here, with our 2-year-old also present. For our main dishes, we got the huevos rancheros and the migas. Both were good and filling. Unfortunately their black beans and their corn (like most restaurants) are from cans, so those options aren't great for those of you wanting to avoid BPA-laden food. Just the way the food industry is for now... hopefully there'll be lots of change in the future. They have self-serve bread slices and 2 jams (strawberry and grape, I think) just inside the entrance, in case you need a snack while you're waiting. Some of the bread was a little stale, but I was able to find the fresher-bread section of the case. There is a kids' room with a TV and games, but the sign at the door specifies that it's only for 5-year-olds and older... our 2-year-old was bummed and kept peering curiously at the room (which has a large glass panel on the door so you can see in) & asking to go in. So if you have a kid younger than 5, best to sit at a table farther from the kids' room -- to decrease the likelihood of them wanting to go somewhere they're not allowed. read more

The 401 is a a fine establishment. It's clean and often not too packed. It offers patio seating. The bar has a tv for your sports viewing pleasure. I'm impressed with the menu- good variety without doing too much. And a good amount of vegan/veg dishes. I got the vegan bowl at my most recent visit (minus the vegan cheese...vegan cheese skeeves me) and it was very good. I also got a grapefruit mimosa and the grapefruit was fresh squeezed- a nice touch. Prices are reasonable. Came here with my girlfriends for drinks and bites. I arrived 25mins before Happy Hour ends and hoped to get some HH drinks. I thought I wouldn't be able to because the service took a little longer. But they got to me 5mins before time so it was ok. The food was good. Nicely garnished and tasted delicious. The drinks were awesome too but seemed to have too little alcohol. Happy Hour already ended when my friends arrived but we still enjoyed the drinks. We ordered more food and had a good time catching up. There were some problems with the bill. I'm usually not a fan of crusts without ranch sauce but the dough they use was tasty just on its own. The truffle mushroom had a runny egg on top. The arugula was not overpowering and the truffle was tasty and also not overempowering. The Mediterranean gyro was flavorful from the meat and sauce. I'm not a huge fan of gyro meat but the rest was tasty. After tax and tip the two pizzas were $30. We even had almost a whole pizza leftover. Great portion size! I came here with some friends for dinner last night. It was packed and it was so loud because of the number of people. We realized that they didn't even have background music, it was just a ton of people trying to have a conversation. There's a parking lot, but don't know if all of it is reserved for valet. I ended up parking in some spaces behind the restaurant. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes which wasn't too bad. They have a kids area that's closed off, which is good...unless your table is next to it (which ours was). Kids kept running in and out of the room and it was incredibly annoying. We started off with cocktails. I can't remember the name of the one I had because it was a new drink on their menu, but it was basically gin, cucumber, and mint. It was good but a little too sweet and a little too tart if that makes sense lol. My friends ordered the Bee Gee and a frozen Rose and they liked their drinks. For appetizers we had the fire roasted brussel sprouts which were delicious and the baked goat cheese French baguette with bacon jam. I don't really like goat cheese, but my friends really enjoyed it. For my entree I had the chicken fried chicken which was topped with a mushroom sauce. I thought the mushrooms would be small or maybe pureed, but they weren't so I had to pick them off of the chicken because I don't like them, but the flavor of the sauce on the chicken was good. It came with mashed potatoes, garlic toast, and green bean. One of my friends ordered the shrimp and grits. What we didn't realize is that grits is in quotes on the menu ("Grits"). My friend did not like it and sent it back. It's some sort of gouda and cauliflower concoction that's pureed to look like grits, but she took two bites of it and decided she couldn't eat it. She ordered the beef tenderloin steak sandwich instead and said it was much better. My other friend had the meatloaf and liked her meal as well. Dessert we had the croissant bread pudding. Taste wise it was really, good but texture wise, it was overcooked. It was hard to break apart with a spoon and eventually we just gave up. Our server was okay. In the beginning she kept checking on us so much that she didn't give us enough time to look at the drink and food menu. Then towards the end of the evening, we had to ask another server to go get her because she was MIA. She was nice though and was patient when my friend sent the "grits" back. I like the variety of the menu. I also noticed there's a ton of TVs in the place. I could see it being a spot to watch a game. The '401 is an absolute neighborhood gem. It is the one place I feel I can go to with my kids and have a relaxing experience to enjoy my meal and conversation with friends. They are so over the top kid friendly with their kids room that comes with movies, iPads and games, and an attendant (in my experience, always a super sweet and kind lady). We often go with another family and our kids from ages 3 to 11 spend most of the time playing in the room, only coming out to eat. On top of that, the menu is extensive, including a full bar, the food is tasty, and the staff is extremely efficient and friendly. It's also easy to get into on the weekends. This place is so cute! I've lived in Bellaire forever now and happened to run into this place because they closed the back street from H-E-B so I had to go around. I've been twice up to now and while I think it's super cute I'm not to impressed with the food itself. It has the potential of being a super cute and fun brunch spot for the girls and I, just based off of the drink. They have a "flight of mimosas"!! For $15! The Bloody Mary is very good also. The service is very good and the manager walks around all the time making sure we are happy with everything. I want to love this place but I have to be honest and say the food is OK and that's about it. Valentines dinner is known to be an exercise in patience and missed expectations. So when I saw a post about The 401 doing a child friendly, but still grown up, event...I was not expecting much. To my total delight, this place blew it all out of the water. There was a room just for kids to go do their thing (video games for my son, chewing on connect four pieces for my daughter...ha). A great priced kids menu and then...actual adult time with a creative and delicious food and cocktail menu. My husband and I didn't quite know what to do with the time alone, while our kids were enjoying themselves in the next room. Being Valentine's Day, I expected the staff to be in the weeds, panting and eye rolling. Totally not! We had a waiter that knew the magic of anticipating any need and not hovering. Really a professionally trained staff from greet to check. As for the food...I had this shrimp and mango pizza that is one of the best things that I have ever eaten. It sounds totally weird...but it came together so wonderful on a perfect crust without a single soggy spot. It's not bougie, and it's not trashy. It's juuuuust right. My friend and I shared a bottle of wine, baked goat cheese and chicken fried chicken. Our server was friendly and just attentive enough. The baked goat cheese is....baked goat cheese. It's exactly what you would expect. The bacon jam is what made it. We had the chicken fried chicken with whipped potatoes, poblano mushroom cream sauce and green beans. The first thing that stood out for me is that I forgot to ask our server to split our entree. But, she anticipated this and had it split between 2 plates for us. The chicken fried chicken was thin cut and crispy. It definitely was not your "typical" chicken-fried breading. I enjoyed it. The poblano mushroom cream sauce was also different. It went well with both the chicken and the potatoes. Unfortunately, the potatoes were "gummy." You know, when potatoes are overcooked they get gummy/over-starchy. I'm not going to deduct an entire star for simply mashed potatoes. It's my first time here. Stuff happens. My first time here and there was plenty of seating and no wait time. The restaurant had a nice vibe inside but was just located in an odd spot. We didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive once ordering. The kale quinoa patties in the power bowl were so crispy and delicious! The Brussel sprouts in the vegan Mediterranean fusion bowl were also very crispy and yummy. The basmati rice was warm and cooked well. Here are some takes on the food: Brussel sprouts - yummo! Get them and get them extra crispy! Marg pizza - I sub pesto for red sauce and add fresh jalapenos and it is pretty good. I wouldn't compare it to a north italia pizza, but it is still good! Veggie power bowl - made with a yummy green sauce and tasty! That green sauce sets this bowl apart Their veggie cutlets/patties are really really tasty. They should offer some appetizers with those patties like they do their seafood/crab appy Overall, it is good fresh food - but some level of flavor is lacking!
