The food at this place is fantastic. I ordered a ribeye that was at least a 24oz (it doesn't say on the menu) for a very reasonable price and it was cooked perfectly. The crabcakes have a lot of crab in them and are very tasty. The Bloody Mary is super good. They put a candied bacon in it and quite a bit of horse radish, which I like. There were little mistakes, like a slightly overcooked salmon, but she ate half of it before complaining. I will be going back. read more

Awww! Such a wonderful place. I felt like I was coming to the home of one of my relatives in NC. Sweet, historic, comfortable and trendy all at the same time. We were in town for the folk festival and decided to stay in Live Oak this year- what a good idea! The food and service was fantastic. Our party had Steak, chicken, fish, soup, salad and drinks that were all amazing. Unfortunately I wasn't so hungry, but I can't wait to return and try more items on the menu. Absolute BEST ribeye I've had in years. Cooked to a perfection - seared on the outside and medium rare inside. Hot and juicy. Yep! Perfection. My husband had the bacon-wrapped scallops. Oh, my! Another taste of perfection. The old Antebellum home is just another draw. We have eaten there about 6 times since they reopened after the Covid closing. Our favorite restaurant, to be sure. I had the filet and it was cooked liked I ordered, and very tender and tasty. The salad has lots of variety and was very colorful and delicious. The vegetables that came with it were very good also. My Son and I just moved to O'Brien, Fl and found your hidden gem in Live Oaks. We were from Ft. Lauderdale area and your restaurant was great. We've eaten at the finest places in the Dade/Broward area's and you all have it rock'en , from GREAT food, beautiful setting, and super staff. It was the best we've had since we moved here. (But then again we only got here two weeks ago), so we will be searching for establishments to live up this one. Tonight my husband and I went to dinner at the 406 on Duval. The house, the restaurant is in, is so adorable and they even give you a paper about the history of the house (pretty cool in my opinion)! I felt like I was in Savannah when we were inside the restaurant. The food was delicious and made fresh from scratch. My family and I were in town because Live Oak was a great half-way point to meet and get together. We stayed at a great AirBnB in town, and went out to dinner tonight at The 406. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! The food was delicious, the service was amazing, the ambiance was great, and the beautiful old house that the restaurant is in was a joy to see. Our server, Kaisley (?), was very caring and competent, and provided excellent service. My brother-in-law can be rather picky, but at one point he marveled that not one of us in our group in 5 could find a thing to complain about! My teenagers even asked if we could come back here again, so even they were happy! This restaurant would be great for a date night, a family meal, or really anything! We will certainly be back next time we're in the area. read more

If you're traveling between Jacksonville and Tallahassee this is the best place to stop and eat! Their crab cakes are one-of-a-kind and all of the seafood is fresh and good. The staff is extra Pleasant and nice, the drinks are good the atmosphere is sweet. The dining rooms have lots of light and cloth napkins and tablecloths. The windows have stained glass in every window and it's a lovely vintage house. My family and I live between Jacksonville and Tallahassee so we often meet here for lunch on the weekends. I also recommend that people going to the airport in Jacksonville from Tallahassee stop here on the way to or from the airport to enjoy a lovely meal. I look forward to going here every time we pass in this area. It's all local, the food is all fresh and the seafood is shipped in everyday. The deserts are to die for!! read more

My husband and I were visiting Live Oak for the weekend, we were told about The 406 by a local and decided to give it a try. My husband had a house salad, quail and the bread pudding he says it was delicious! I had the mahi mahi sandwich and the green beans and let me tell you something.. we live in South Florida about a mile away from the ocean, with seafood restaurants on about every corner and we eat out at restaurants a lot. This mahi sandwich was, hands down, the BEST mahi I've ever had in my life! It was so good I almost didn't want to eat it all and take it home with me! The service was wonderful, the atmosphere was cozy, food was delicious and affordable. Next time we are back in Live Oak we will definitely eat here again. read more

My wife and I were frequent diners at this restaurant until it sadly closed due to illness of the owner and COVID. The old mansion, where the restaurant was located, was closed and abandoned for over a year and we were disappointed because we had one less fine dining establishment in our little town. About 6 months ago, we heard that someone had purchased the old restaurant and were going to refurbish the building and reopen and keep the same name.The soft opening was last night 12-11-2021 and my wife and I were one of the first ones there. We were apprehensive. New owners, would there be a new menu, quality of the food and service et al. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated with menus. To our delight, the entrees on the menu were very similar. Shortly there after, our young and enthusiastic waitress came to our table and the adventure began. The food is as good as we remembered with, in some instances, smaller portions. I had the chicken piccata and my wife had the bacon wrapped scallops. We heard that they had hired the old cook and it showed. As a decadent finally, We ordered the bread pudding and words can't describe how good it was. Everything was perfect. We went here to celebrate our 5th anniversary today. We went because of the amazing Yelp reviews and because we were driving from Tallahassee to Orlando. The restaurant is in a big historic house with huge columns and creaky wooden floors. There was plenty of parking and the bathrooms were large and clean. We were seated immediately and brought drinks. It took a while for our server to come back and take our order but another server stepped up and asked us if we wanted some bread. In the meantime, our server came and took our orders. We got the clams for an appetizer, I got the pork tenderloin (with red potatoes and green beans) for my entrée and my husband got the "bronzed grouper" (blackened grouper with a cream sauce) with a side of green beans and quinoa. Again, it took a little while for the food to arrive. First came the clams. The presentation was very nice but while we were eating them I had a few bites with sand. Unfortunately the clams were pretty rubbery and the wine they used to cook them wasn't the best. After a while longer, our entrées arrived. Mine was not what I typically consider pork tenderloin to look like in a restaurant but boy was it yummy! The inside was tender and tasted of honey and the outside was covered in a black pepper and rosemary rub. The portion size was very generous. The potatoes were bland (they needed salt) and not crisp on the outside and the beans were more cooked than I prefer but had good flavor. My husband's grouper was over seasoned and very over cooked (it was mushy.) He had the same problem with his green beans. His quinoa was very yummy - lots of butter in it. For dessert (they are all made in house) we ordered the crème brûlée. It was very small (especially compared to the bread pudding that we saw another table get) and unfortunately, the custard was broken. While the people were nice, the service definitely wasn't fast which is a big downside if you're stopping here while on a road trip. The food was mostly a disappointment with a few high notes. The building is historic, so that's nice. I don't think we will be going back. We will probably go to the fish place around the corner for some better eats. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. As soon as we were seated it started downhill. How are you going to sit 7 people in the middle of the room. Two people cramped at one table end, two more people crammed at the other end. 4 tables in one tiny room. Literally impossible to hear the person next to you. As soon as our server hit the table he tells us they are out of venison, crab claws, and grouper. Ok. We all placed our order. 35 minutes later our server comes back to tell 5 out of the 7 of us who ordered filet, that they are out of that as well now. So here we are having been seated for 45 minutes at this point and we have to re order something else. .... watered down teas sitting at the table. Empty Coke glasses. Where is our server? Why hasn't a manager come by to apologize for this absolute terrible excuse of service as well as poor planning on the kitchens part? Who is running this place? Anyone? So then we get our salads (another 20 minutes later) warm plates, warm wilted lettuce. What I can only assumed is due to the fact that our server was running around frantically sweating and let our salads sit in a hot kitchen for the 20 minutes we had been waiting. Then our main courses come. Everyone ordered their steak and lamb medium rare. My husband and I (still squished sitting at a table end.. elbows touching) both were handed well pieces of meat. I just let me steak slide because at this point I was just famished. If you've ever had lamb you know it's extremely unappealing if it's cooked any longer than medium rare. We inform the server and he comes back after going to the kitchen to tell us the guy in the back says the "sauce stains the meat" I couldn't help but laugh. Blame the sauce. Ok. At this point we are ready to leave, put the new lamb in a to go box let's get out of this place asap. Lamb comes out in a to go box, with the sauce, which magically didn't stain this piece. I will say the lamb was cooked perfectly this go around. Granted it took an extra 20 minutes to get it but we are out of here!! Long story short, take one table out of each room, people can wait and are willing to wait if the experience is pleasant. But at charging over 20 dollars per entree you need to respect your patrons enough to give them an enjoyable experience. Most definitely will not be back. Get it together. read more

Found this hidden gem by accident and I want to tell the world. The place is a historical blessing and perfectly nestled in Live Oak. Don't blink, you'll miss the huge pillars and drive right by. Vivienne greeted me as I walked in. She was a complete delight and she understands customer service. I felt so welcomed and invited! She steered me towards the history of the building and even let us explore the home. It was exciting to find out there was a bar and a deck in the back! This also led to a small garden and Koi pond. Nothing in this old historical home was 100% perfect. It certainly needs some TLC. However, the food was phenomenal and the chef even made me a special dish at my request. We started with the portobello caprese and a creamy crab bisque. 5 star! Amazing flavor. We followed that with the Bronzed Grouper and the fettuccine Alfredo with portobello added. The Grouper was tasty, hot and accompanied with fresh green beans and potatoes. The Alfredo sauce was fabulous. The wine choices are so good and then for dessert we had the Chocolate paradise. I can't remember the last time I had such a good dinner. Add the amazing service and beautiful historic ambiance? I want to drive to Live Oak once a week now. Live Oak is so lucky to have such a topknot chef at a beautiful restaurant such as this. The staff is always wonderful and accommodating the food is unbelievable and it's just an overall great experience. My first time was ringing in 2017 with their New Year's celebration party... On my way to the Hulaween festival at Suwanee Park, we decided to get a decent meal in the night before our camping trip begins. The Venison, quail and price points on the menu drew me in. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the building itself. Beautiful and historic. No reservations needed on a Wednesday night. We were instantly seated, and served some yummy bread and delicious whipped butter. We started with a Mondavi Pinot Noir at $20 per bottle from Napa!!! Isnt that what it costs at the store?? We then put in an order of the quail for app. You get 2 for $12. Let me tell you as a quail and pigeon connoisseur, this was probably the best I've had!!!! Charred yet juicy, no gaminess and sooo tender! I could've eaten a few! On to the entrees.. I felt like something light so I opted for the grilled mahi served in a beurre blanc sauce. The rice and garlic veggies that came with it was just perfection! My husband's venison was incredibly tender, also zero gaminess and the lightly sweet glaze complemented it so well. Rarely do you find a place that nails their seafood and land fare! I know I would've loved their bread pudding dessert but I was trying to keep my eating clean before our festival. To top it off I chatted a little with the owner who was just lovely. I believe her husband is the one who concocts those magnificent creations in the kitchen.
