    Lobster Mac
    Leia T.

My evening at The Ancient Mariner was hands down the best dining experience I've had in years. From the moment you walk in, you are hit with a vibe that makes you feel like you are about to have a really great time. And that is exactly what happened. I was greeted and seated immediately even though the restaurant was bustling with guests. Though I was dining alone, the waitress made me feel like I was amongst friends. I ordered the Lobster Mac, which tasted like something out of a REALLY good dream! The rigatoni and lobster were cooked PERFECTLY, and the bechamel cheese sauce had the rare combination of being beautifully rich, but not heavy. I was so comfortable that I took seat at the bar on my way out and had a glass of wine. The guests are a mix of both locals and visitors such as myself. The bartender, Michelle, made everyone feel like we had all been friends for years! I genuinely couldn't have asked for more. Whether you are flying solo, on a date, or with friends and family, The Ancient Mariner is a sure bet when it comes to having an incredible evening. I can guarantee you will walk out with a smile on your face!

Avocado and honey mustard chicken salad

Food was great. I had the avocado chicken salad and my buddy had a burger. Nice pub cozy atmosphere with bar seating, some tables and some booths. Exceptional service! It seemed to be a one woman show and she was super. There was a large group as well as a few other tables and she handled it all with a smile and grace. Dishes arrived in a timely manner, we did not feel rushed, and she anticipated all our needs. I'd give her five stars!

The food is delicious, a step above traditional pub food. The fish sandwich was a little soggy, but the taste more than made up for it.

Service was very good and the vibe overall was laid back and enjoyable. Cocktails were very good (loved my old fashioned). We had a bunch of appetizers and everything was pretty good. Loved the grilled seafood appetizer that had an amazing sauce with it. The pea and strawberry salad was good but was overdressed, so it was a little soggy but the flavors were good. My main dish was the short rib tater tot appetizer which was not what I expected (it was four big tots with the short ribs mixed in) but it was still good. We all split a blueberry buckle for dessert and that was amazing. Will definitely go back!

The staff was super friendly and had such positive attitudes making the experience enjoyable. There is a parking lot located to the side of the restaurant where you can easily park. However, I believe there is a two hour limit. If you plan to come for brunch on the weekends, make sure to reserve a table ahead of time because it fills up fast! There was a line out the door as I left. I ordered the southern breakfast with the grits and bacon from the menu, however, they offered plenty of brunch specials as well. The portions are plenty filling, offering generous servings that leave you satisfied without feeling like you need anything extra. I would love to come back and try some of their dinner options.

The breakfast menu offers egg plates, omelettes, benedicts, huevos rancheros, egg sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, waffles, cereal, corned beef hash, bagels & muffins. The lunch/dinner menu offers sandwich/wrap plates, burgers, salads, soups, fried appetizers, pasta dishes, seafood dishes, London broil, steaks, and desserts (cakes, pie, rice pudding, ice cream treats) . They also have a kids menu (under 12). The prices are moderate, most entrees $10-$30 range. I stopped by Pop's Diner for lunch recently. The place wasn't busy and I was seated at a booth. I got an ice water and ordered the French Dip ($15.95 plus tax) served with fries, cole slaw & dill pickle chips. My entree plate arrived in 10 minutes. The French dip sandwich had thinly sliced roast beef (med well), melted mozzarella cheese on a soft Kaiser bun (cut in half) and a cup of hot au jus for dipping. The standard golden fries lightly salted were hot and crisp. The crunchy creamy cole slaw (shredded cabbage & carrot) was smothered in mayo. After I was done, the server brought over the check with a SkyTab QR code, to pay online. Overall, a pretty good lunch with prompt service. If I'm back in town for a show, I would stop in for dinner.

Had smoked turkey and sides of the beans, potato salad and collard greens. The sides were all meat-free, which was great because a lot of BBQ places put meat in all their vegetable sides, too. Liked having two kinds of BBQ sauce on the table (one sweet, one with mustard), and the French fries were decent. My partner asked for lean brisket, and it actually showed up lean. Someone else at the table asked for it fatty, and that's how it came. I do wish they offered a platter with a choice of meat and two sides for a good price, like many BBQ joints, but in the end, I figured out how to make it work (hint: order a sandwich). Would come here again.

Besides the temperature of the food being cold, their haphazard management was inefficient , they made ordering changes for Father's Day Weekend, and the experience was highly disappointed. And for anyone traveling to try, know the brisket and ribs were extremely dry. My biggest issue, was that in my platter order, it contained the following low quality/low standards: 1) two ends from the point, and one end from the flat were in my 1/2 lbs of brisket- thats three ends. One looked like it was reheated from the day before- but this means an employee thought it was a good idea to put MULTIPLE brisket ends in one order. (Btw good bbq places make something called 'Burnt ends'-you should google that). 2) The pork ribs contained two rib points. Same issue as the brisket. This means an employee purposely gave my order the worst rib from two different racks. On top of that they were butchered and flavorless. 3) The star of the show, the $64 beef rib was an end cut (thats bad luck but...) and was dried out and contained no meat. They also did not call me when my takeout order was ready, (I had to ask about it, after 35 minutes PAST my estimated time, and it was just sitting there). It came with no BBQ sauce. 1/2 chicken was nothing to write home about, but at least it wasn't dry. The wings, RyThai Chile , were excellent, and I liked the blue cheese. I also liked the Brussel sprouts. The guy who took my order over the phone was great. I have never been to brother Jimmies but I suggest you go there over HooDoos. I would rather try a McRib over trying Hoodoo's again... No one should EVER travel here- this is just a good example of social media fame. Yuck.
