We ordered the summer skewers, the chicken nicoise, and the hamachi. The skewers were my personal favorite, but everything was delicious. I don't like chicken breast but this was pretty good, especially love the sauce and the green beans. The service was a bit hectic since it was very busy, which was understandable. My family and I came to the Hollywood Bowl tonight for The Classical World Cup led by Tito Munoz with special guests Randall Goodby and Josh Kahn. Since I was bringing my wife and our two girls, I planned ahead and booked reservations at The Backyard. I usually don't dine at the Bowl restaurants, but I'm glad I did this time. We arrived early and were greeted right away. Even though we were ahead of our reservation time, they seated us without hesitation, which was great because we were hungry. Our server, Drue, was fantastic. She was funny, knowledgeable about the menu, and had great suggestions. She was also wonderful with our girls, which made the whole experience even better. We started with the bread. The center was soft, the crust had the right crunch, and while the butter itself wasn't anything special, once you added coarse salt it became something really good. After that we had the Caesar Verde and the hamachi. The hamachi was the only miss of the night. The sauce carried all the flavor and the fish didn't shine on its own. The Caesar, on the other hand, was excellent. It had corn and pumpkin seeds, which is a combination I've never had before, and I could have easily eaten two of them. Our main dish was the ribeye, and it was incredible. Better than most steak houses. Perfectly cooked, juicy, buttery, and served over a bed of mushrooms that soaked up all the flavor. I would come back to the Hollywood Bowl just for this steak. We also had grilled broccolini with olives, pine nuts, and a hint of lemon, plus a small ramekin of mac and cheese that was surprisingly good. I wanted more of it. Overall, The Backyard delivered a great pre‑show dinner with excellent service and standout dishes. Drue made the experience even better. I would absolutely return. As many times as I've been to the Bowl, I never knew this restaurant even existed! A friend recommended it, so my husband and I decided to make reservations two days before our concert. Luckily, I was able to get a spot just in time before the show started. From the photos online, it looks pretty spacious, but in reality, the dining area feels a bit tight. Service was great--very attentive and friendly. The menu, however, is somewhat limited. I ordered the salmon, and my husband had the peach and watermelon salad. The food was just okay--nothing that really wowed me. For me, it was all about the ambiance. Dining with the stage as a backdrop was definitely a unique experience and something worth trying at least once. They're tried and true is the rib eye steak with charred spring onion, domingo rojos, and almond salbitxada ($72.) They offer other entrees from chicken to fish. The swordfish with panzanella alla puttanesca-tomatoes, capers and black olives $45 is an exquisite dish. The service is a little slow so grab a bottle of their curated wines by Caroline Styne from AOC. Make a reservation early enough to hear the musicians warm up as you enjoy dinner. read more

Great setting and fantastic food. Slightly slow service but the servers and staff do their best. We went for dinner prior to Jesus Christ Superstar and made reservations for 6:45 online. Shuttle from the zoo when they start and we got seated just before our reservation. Wife went with the salmon and I had the rib eye. We added the fried potatoes and had the chocolate torta for dessert. The salmon was great and the steak was cooked very well. Our server was not the one that took our order though. The manager noticed we were just sitting and took our order right away. He must have noticed that we were waiting for a bit and put a rush because we got our food out prior to the table next to us who had been there for a little bit. I think the guy made a comment to the server about that. Paired Cabernet was good. The torta was probably the highlight for me I wish the serving was just a tad bigger. had dinner before a show yesterday, we got to the place 15 minutes before our reservation, host turned us away said come back at your time, even though the place was EMPTY. we sat on a wall bench, cracked our wine, and all enjoyed. came back 15 minutes later, place was packed, got one of the last tables. Waitress was nice, but realized we didn't need drinks, so her tip was a lot less than it would have been. the food here is meh, small menu. it's great if you don't want to be in the box beyond the show. I wouldn't bother going here again. someone should give additional training to the host. read more

Hidden away behind one of the screens is The Backyard at The Hollywood Bowl. The The entrance is behind the popcorn stand, up a few stairway. Super out-sight gem. Our waiter Alex, Ryan Reynolds look alike, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Every dish he suggested was perfection. The handsome bar tender was on point bring refills at the right time. Ribeye, huge proportion, tender, juicy and with flavors only a wood fire grill can give. The sauce, it's witchcraft pairing with this protein. Lamb, look at my picture. That says it all. The lamb cooked pink in the middle, the sauce elevated this dish with such freshness. We just tried this restaurant since we were attending the Charlie Wilson and En Vogue concert. The restaurant has all outdoor seating. The ambiance is warm and inviting with a perfect blend of low tables and high tables. All servers were attentive. Our server was (Tae) and she was a jewel!!! She made solid recommendations for wine and our entrees. The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection, filled with mouth-watering flavor. The Payard chicken was suppose to be chicken breast but the piece I had tasted like thighs the flavor was good but I prefer breast and wings. The shrimp appetizer is a must-have. Our server seemed to have been in a rush...I could almost hear her tapping her pen on her order pad... The bread app is great. The rib eye was thinner and fattier than most I've had. For $65 I expected a better cut of meat. The Mac and cheese was definitely the star of the dinner They don't offer hard alcohol because they are a city/county park, so they use an alcohol called saba (?) which I think is wine based to make their cocktails. I ordered a $16 mojito that tasted nothing like a mojito. I'd recommend sticking to the wine or beer. I love the convenience but probably won't go back. read more

A lovely venue to dine at before seeing a show at the Hollywood Bowl. The is full of excitement, people hanging at the bar and others seated dining. You can order a bottle of wine and if you don't finish it, they will give you a bucket and cups to take to your seats. The bread was tasty, be sure to sprinkle a little salt on it. Both the succotash and the ceviche had good flavor. The lamb was okay.. good flavor, the temperature was cooked more than I'd like but it was tender and flavorful. My husband had the seabass. You must make reservations.. this is a hot spot and gets crowded. Felt really rushed by the server to orders. They kept coming by to check on us but it didn't feel like they were checking to see if we were good with everything it felt as tho they were checking to see how long we'd take to finish. read more

My husband and I had dinner with friends before the Boy Genius concert and LOVED the convenience, relaxed, fun feel and being able to listen to the opening bands. We had THE best server, Drew who was adorable and made great recommendations for food and wine as it was our first time. There's something about this place that I just absolutely love. There's nothing that I can quite put my finger on, maybe the it's the ambience, and a feeling of coziness, but it's definitely one of my go-to places whenever I make a suggestion to friends for places to go out to. That being said, depending on what's in season/the menu for the day the food is either amazing or just alright. This used to be such an amazing place to have a meal before a performance. I don't know why they can't get it together. I realize restaurants are in COVID recovery mode, but I've eaten here several times this summer and EVERY TIME I have to send my protein back for being overcooked. EVERY TIME. Where's the quality control? It has to be more cost effective to have someone overseeing things than constantly returning them. Also, it is inexcusable to wait 25 minutes for someone to come to your table. Or 45 minutes for your salad to come out. Especially when the restaurant is not near capacity. And the manager is useless. Complaints are met with "I'm sorry" rather than remedies. Stop chatting up customers and see that the kitchen is working properly. You expect more from a Suzanne Goin restaurant. Picnicking at The Bowl never looked so good. read more

A shame this place is getting such bad reviews. First time here and while it wasn't amazing and worth the spendy price points, it wasn't a bad experience. We ordered several dishes and some, like the scallops, were quite good. I feel like they are trying with some of the ingredients to be impressive and put out quality food. Some pluses: * The view is quite lovely. I don't know that there is a bad seat anywhere. I also liked the ambiance. * The portions are good size. We like to share dishes and there was more than enough food for the 2 of us. * The service is good and timely when we asked for things. Some minuses: * The tables are very close together. You can hear every word of conversation of others surrounding you. * The food came out pretty much all at once. We ordered several dishes and the two top table was pretty small. I would have preferred dishes be spaced out more evenly. * They charge for bread. It's only $3, but come on! It's bread! That said it was good and I enjoyed it mostly because I rarely eat bread anymore. Oh, and soft, warm bread with hard cold butter. No, just no. * It wasn't cheap. For the money, I can't say it was worth it. With tip, 1/2 dozen oysters, 1 salad, 1 entree, 2 sides, dessert and a bottle of wine it was just under $300. * They only serve drip coffee. No coffee drinks and no decaf. They have tea in a bag, which is a rather weak presentation. They need to fix this. We have a future reservation for an upcoming show here. I told my husband we'd be better off getting sushi elsewhere for the money. We'll see if we end up coming back and what it's like. read more

Delicious foods, nice selections of wine and excellent services at this hidden gem located on a upstair patio to the left hand side after you pass the main entrance, the small space fills up quickly therefore reservation is a must and can be done easily via opentable. For starters I especially liked the sweet corn salad with roasted poblano peppers in a special cream sauce, it's refreshing, tasty and well balanced, the beer steamed shrimp was fresh and spicy; I enjoyed the lamb chops entree more than the seabass, which was a bit dry, I saw many diners ordered the chocolate torta but the basque cheesecake was well made and added a sweet touch to a satisfied appetite. We had plenty of time to enjoy our 3 course meal prior to concert but they can accommodate food, wine and dessert to go to be enjoyed at your seat. I still like the pre-order foods and picnic options at the Bowl but the Backyard is a fine alternative option! Look forward to the next visit. read more

If you are there early you might be forced to sit in the sun as well. Overall for the Hollywood Bowl it is good. Great food and ambiance. For the price, this place was a disappointment. They charge prices you'd see at a three star Michelin restaurant but don't even serve the food listed on the menu. Their "rib-eye" steak was a tough New York cut, prepared improperly. The sea bass didn't taste right. The food was worthy of an Applebee's. The red wine was served ice cold because they chose to store it in a fridge rather than at the proper temperature. My best recommendation is to skip this place and bring a picnic basket to the Hollywood Bowl. read more
