My husband and I are more on the rare side of medium-rare spectrum but typically order medium rare (and we did so tonight). If one of us are sending something back for being too rare.... It takes a lot. This picture is of the steak after being refired not once but twice. This was disappointing for a few reasons. But I think mostly because even after the second refire and naming that we've been in the restaurant industry- there was an argumentative nature to our conversation with our waitress. In our experience, a re fire typically necessitates a manager at least checking in if not dropping the plate. When we said this gesture would have gone a long way with us, but instead the waitress offered we take the steak home to our dogs, we were met with "well I've never seen that here." Unfortunately this was our first time here and we will not be returning despite being valley residents who like to eat out during our at least once a month stay in Prescott. read more

We had a wonderful meal tonight. 2 NY strips cooked perfectly, and a fish and chips. All were cooked very well, and were seasoned tastefully. The rice, vegetables, baked potato, and fries were all very good. The hostess's were polite and professional. The owner greeted us, and was exceptionally kind. First off all, I would like to preface this by saying that the food was good. I think it was pretty solidly consistent for everyone. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The ambiance, however, was severely lacking. The reason I say that is that it was so loud we could not talk to each other. We had a table of 5, everyone in the 60s. The table was round, and it was so big that we were very far away from each other. You could only talk to the person next to you. The dining room was extremely loud. I would not go back with more than one person, and I would sit in the bar. Too bad, but I don't want to go somewhere at this price point and not have a good experience. The Badgers Den is hands down our favorite spot in Prescott--we get takeout at least once a week and it never disappoints. The filets are always cooked to perfection with the best quality meat in town. We recently tried the scallops and as someone originally from Boston, I can confidently say they were New England-level good. We wanted to take our son to a special place when he visited. He's in restaurant management, so eating out is what it's all about to him. We chose the Badger's Den after hearing all the good things. The quality and experience were amazing, We had the ahi tuna wonton appetizer first-- perfect start. Then we shared a shrimp Caesar. The shrimps were tender, chilled and perfect. The dressing was light and delicious. These are things that vary from place to place, but Badger's Den's Caesar is the standard. I am not a meat eater, but my son had a steak and a meat plate that he said were excellent. I had southwestern mussels with linguini; they were clean, tasted amazing and had just the right texture-- maybe the best mussels ever. We had side dishes of coleslaw, macaroni and fried okra. My wife shared all of our food. I was comfortably full but my son took the banana cream cookie butter pie home for dessert. Nothing disappointed from the courteousness of the server to the timing and temperature of the food. Not sure what to order next time, but we will definitely be back. read more

Two weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I had an amazing dining experience, attentive service, and an overall delightful experience at this wonderful venue! From the moment I spoke with the owner/chef Ryan, on the phone to make our reservation, to when we walked out, everything was simply perfect! I cannot say enough about how absolutely magnificent the meal was. I had the special Seabass and my husband had an amazing ribeye. We could not have been more thrilled with our selections! The flavors were delectable and the presentation was lovely. Also, if you're looking for another great recommendation, the sea scallops are divine on the appetizer menu as well as the tuna wontons. You can't go wrong with either! Our server, Hallie, added the extra special touch of wonderful service to make this an overall delightful experience--a true dining experience! This was our forth time here, and was so excited to share with our two friends who joined us. I was soooo embarrassed I suggested this place, the service was absolutely dismal. Nathan was our server & I'm not sure what we did to sour his night, but he was NOT pleased to be serving our table. 20 min passed before he stopped by to even bring water (after we summoned the hostess to help us). The night continued the same way... each time asking for someone to get our server so we could order drinks, our meal, etc. ALL tables surrounding us had different servers who were on their game while we sat waiting. And waiting. 1 hr and 25 min later, we finally got our food. No apologies. No inquiry if we wanted another drink. He quickly dumped our food and ran. Didn't bother to check back if there was something we needed (yes, the chives never came with the baked potato, and why was there only 2 scallops when the menu clearly said there would be 3?) ugh. Hubby and I came in and it's so cute inside. Fire was going and it felt like an old lodge and turns out it was! We ordered the tuna wontons and no joke AMAZING! Fresh and like we were in Hawaii. I will attach a pic. We then shared the clam chowder and salad. Very delish. Then we had the ribeye and Mac-n-cheese. It was a wonderful and huge portions so today we had the leftovers for lunch. Great ambience to celebrate our 20th anniversary ! Went during the day Sunday. Not at all crowded. Bet it gets very crowded at night. Our waiter was Caleb who is the owners son in law. He gave excellent service & was a very nice young gentleman! The food was excellent!! Best prime rib I have ever had!! NY steak was great too! Fries were perfect. This will be our new go to place!! We loved it. They will be opening patio for spring & are planning a speak easy in the basement. Also the private event dining room looked awesome. Met kat one of the owners. Tonight I asked for my MW filet "Butterflied" it did Not come "Butterflied" and it was MD at best. The server brought a whole new one and said to me " The Chef wanted you to know it was " Double Butterflied" Insinuating it was the first time? Wow! Service and Acknowledgement. Seems as though they're working on it....By the way, not that we asked, our server said "there was no manager on duty" Huh, Friday Night!? If you want an amazing meal in a casual atmosphere, this is the place you have been looking for. We called on a Thursday morning and made a reservation for 6:30 pm the same day. That was the earliest reservation we could get. At the restaurant, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was very friendly and provided excellent service. My wife and her friend split a 16 oz ribeye with steamed vegetables and a baked potato. The potato was excellent, and the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. They asked for their steak to be cooked medium. It was actually cooked to between medium-rare and medium, which in my opinion, is exactly how a ribeye should be cooked. They were a little annoyed but managed to eat all of their steak. I started with a cup of clam chowder. It was one of the best I have ever had. My main course was the special, blackened swordfish with asparagus and rice. The swordfish was obviously previously frozen. I expected that because there are no oceans near Arizona. That being said, it was perfectly cooked and delicious, as was the asparagus. For dessert, my wife and her friend split some carrot cake. Again, they loved it. We will definitely return and you should try it as well. But be sure to make reservations, it is a very popular place. read more

Went to the Badgers Den again tonight and as always everything was on point! They have expanded their menu and we tried the brisket nachos. They were delicious. So much flavor in every bite. This really is a 5* restaurant. I was shocked to see the ratings so low, till I went through and read the reviews and realized the bad reviews were for other people's petty grievances that are out of the restaurants control. Seriously, a one star review because there was a loud baby and management didn't control it? Anyways, the special catch, the Grouper was amazing and our server Rocky was so friendly and attentive. We had the grilled Artichokes that were wonderful, with sweet Peruvian chilies that were addicting. The Lady Finger ribs appetizer is worth coming here for if you order nothing else. But you will. Fantastic brisket, with a side of Mac and cheese that is on the soupy side so the consistency is delish from start to finish, and the clam chowder that is loaded with flavor and goodies. There were a lot of great reviews for this place on Nextdoor, so we thought we'd give it a try. We decided to go on my birthday. My husband made reservations at 5pm (old people's early-bird special, LOL) because it was a Saturday night and we thought it might be crowded later. We each started with a drink - I had the "Jayne Mansfield" (Cuban rum, simple syrup, strawberry liqueur, topped with champagne, $15) and he had a beer (Badger's Brew, Beach Cruiser Mexican lager, $7). Both were delicious. (Fun fact: Our server told us that the man who built the place - she wasn't sure when - was a big fan of Jayne Mansfield and pointed out that he had embedded her silhouette into the rock wall at the other end of the restaurant.) We shared an appetizer - prosciutto-topped scallops, $19. They came with blistered shishito peppers, which we didn't expect - those were listed as a separate shareable appetizer for $11. (For the record, we are gringos and don't go for anything spicy at all, but I tried a bit of one of the peppers after looking them up on Google for the Scoville rating, and they were no hotter than bell peppers. They were very tasty.) The scallops were also very good, although since all of the appetizers are listed as "shareable," I felt that there should have been four instead of three. Still, cutting one of them in half did the trick. For dinner, I had one of the evening's specials - grilled swordfish topped with mango-pico salsa, served with brown rice pilaf and asparagus ($37). It was perfect. My husband had the pork chops with apricot glaze ($35). For sides, he chose brown rice pilaf and Boston clam chowder. Here's where we had a bit of a hiccup. He cut into the first pork chop (and in fact, both chops were quite large and thick - this place does NOT skimp on portions!) and took a bite. He said it was tender and delicious, but I noticed right away that it was noticeably pink on the inside and pointed it out to him. His days of having an "iron stomach" being far behind him, we both thought it best if he sent it back to the kitchen to be cooked a bit more. Our server, Dawn, was happy to oblige. Instead of just tossing those pork chops back on the grill (and to be fair, they were covered with apricot sauce, so that would have made quite a mess), the chef cooked up two entirely new chops, which took a while. Meanwhile, I continued with my dinner and we enjoyed a lively conversation. During this time, Dawn offered my husband another beer on the house (he thanked her and declined. Then the manager came over and was very apologetic, and she offered him an extra appetizer or soup (again, he thanked her and declined). His new plate (cooked perfectly to medium well this time) arrived just as I finished my meal, but that was all right - we weren't in any hurry - and really, those pork chops were so large that one of them came home with us to be eaten for lunch the following day. So it was all fine. The total with tax and tip came to $145. The atmosphere was very nice - not too loud, so you could have a conversation in a normal tone of voice without screaming to be heard. Also the temperature was comfortable - I was wearing a light jacket, but then I'm always cold. I've found many establishments here in town to be overly air conditioned. Our server, Dawn, was attentive but not intrusive. The manager was circulating among the tables to make sure everything was going smoothly. The food was excellent. The chef did an excellent job of adjusting the second set of pork chops to the requested level of doneness. We had a lovely evening out. read more

We tried this place based on all the great reviews and maybe we went on an off night, but it did not live up to the 5 star reviews. We waited 15 minutes after being seated for our server to come to our table and greet us. At that point we decided we needed to get our drink and food orders in while we had her. We already had waters but it took another 10-15 minutes till we got our drinks - they were already sitting at the bar. Then the salads we ordered with our dinner came out before our appetizer. The appetizer we ordered was the spinach and bread bowl which was good. We ate the entire thing as well as our salads before our food came out. I ordered a filet and mashed potatoes while my husband ordered a ribeye and baked potato. Neither of us were super impressed. My mashed potatoes were lukewarm as well as my filet. My husband said his ribeye only tasted like the grill. Overall it was an okay experience, but definitely wasn't worth the cost. $200 for an okay dinner and okay service was not what we were expecting. Maybe we will be back but we're doubtful. read more

My wife and I were up in Prescott for a nice long weekend on our motorcycle. Our first night we dined at The Badger's Den and was ABSOLUTELY blown away. My wife and I do not eat at steakhouses as we generally are completely underwhelmed HOWEVER, The Badgers Den was an incredible surprise. First night was a bison pot roast that was beyond my wildest expectations! Second night was a smoked 14oz ribeye! Met the owner Ryan and had to compliment him on his culinary prowess as I truly have not been impressed by a steakhouse in over a decade! I informed him that my wife and I have a large smoker and outdoor kitchen so finding a place that can not only peak my interest but keep it and make me wanting to come back for more is unheard of. Hats off Ryan to you and your crew on an exceptional job well done! Kudos to Aubrey on our first night! You are truly the diamond of the culinary experience of Prescott! My husband and I dine out frequently and tried Badger's Den despite it being a 45 minute drive. The food was absolutely delicious, however the service was terrible. It took 10 minutes for our server to get our drink order and 30 minutes for our appetizer. We told her that we were going to a concert. When the entrees arrived, we had just 10 minutes to eat them and the server brought the wrong order for my husband's entree. The food took way too long, the service was mediocre and it's very loud in there. Two of the people in our party ordered cocktails. The drinks arrived about 15 minutes and were completely watered down. The meals were fine, I can't complain about what I ate. The entire dinner took 2 hours, and we could not wait to leave. Our first visit comes early on a rainy Friday night. Thought the hour and the weather would favor a walk in. Instead there's a big wedding party going and no seating available. We head dejected for the parking lot and the owner sends the receptionist after us offering to open a back room if we wouldn't mind some delay in getting the order out. We say yes and are blessed with a brilliant server, Stacy, who is a vet and wonderfully attentive. For some time we are alone in that back room. She chats cheerfully becomes our friend . The owner comes and visits with us too. All that attention didn't distract from a very high quality strip steak perfectly prepared. Best I've had in years.
