The photos are deceiving. This hotel is old, tiny and dingy. My room was not cleaned when I checked in and there was hair on the toilet seat and shower. The room was pitch black and smelled like a public restroom. All of the furniture is scratched up and scuffed. The floors are dirty and dusty. The hallways had toilet paper pieces, hair and other trash. The front desk staff were also rude and unhelpful. Walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. This hotel is truly disgusting and actually could be a hostel or motel. read more

I booked this hotel very last minute. The rate was quite reasonable for the area. My only question is the resort fee they apply (not sure what it included). We arrived early but they allowed us to store our luggage. They also had a welcome drink for us (signature rum punch that was phenomenal). We were ushered to a renovated side. The room was nice but very dark and very warm. We could also hear EVERYTHING outdoors. I know you are thinking "well it's Miami" but we were in a quiet area. Lots of workers, etc. Service was friendly and location was perfect. Overall, it was a great little place. read more

We dined and had cocktails the stayed one night due to the airlines. The hotel was renovating rooms and the entry. They were implementing a cool vibe and trendy art in the front entry/dining area and bar. A year and half later, the hotel has changed ownership 2-3 times. They've taken out the cool vibe and turned it into a dull, common Holiday Inn atmosphere. I expected to come back and visit and dine there with the updated cool vibe. BOY WAS I DISAPPOINTED!!! The staff were not in white and black uniforms but blue jeans and casual dress attire! The only cool thing there was the bartender. The food was decent. read more

This is overall an excellent hotel. The owners and partners are very friendly, staff is great and Alberto is wonderful at both training his staff and assisting the customers. Their cocktails, mocktails, and coffee drinks are all on point (did I mention the staff were wonderful?) and the hosts (like William) are polished and knowledgeable. The cleaning staff is also extremely good at what they do--VERY organized, efficient, and friendly, and you can be sure that your room will always stay clean and on point. The hotel rooms themselves are okay--our faucet was a bit jiggly and I wish we had more storage space to put our clothes, and the pool is a bit sad looking--but you're on the beach! Who needs the pool? The food was also a little hit or miss at Mehzcal, the hotel's restaurant, but I know they've been training new staff so I'm sure it's all back to normal now. I will warn that the steak is RARE (like, cold center) so ask for Medium if you want it more on the med. rare side. However, the steak is very soft and delicious, so make sure you get that. I'll rave more about their food in the Mehzcal Yelp page and save hotel stuff for here. Based on service alone, you should come here. It's on the quieter side of town and you'll get some nice relaxing time before you head closer to the muscle beach side and get the bro vibes. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here! Starting off at check in being flawless with Julia! We got a great room we were in check in and out of check in within eight minutes. I cannot understand why Summer is complaining about the $200 hold on your card! Overtime this is become very normal because a lot of people don't know how to act in hotel rooms. I had no problem with putting my card on hold and have since already received my deposit back! Be prepared to spend around $180-300 per night depending on the time. We stayed during the week but on spring break for $265 and I am sure when I come back on an off season it won't be that high. The bar in the lobby area are absolutely stunning very old world Hollywood glam! The beautiful art, deco, seating, and lounge area draw that I and it is very easy to stay down there have a drink, or a meal, and enjoy people watching passing by. We got a king size bedroom with a great window view to Ocean Drive. The bed was very comfortable! No issues there. The shower was wonderful a little low on the water pressure but because we're at the beach it was probably better for my skin to have a softer stream of water. The towels were nice and big, they even had robes for you to wear! Me and my daughter loved this feature. The note did advertise that there were slippers, I didn't see any slippers in the room. But I did not turn me off from the room as a whole in general we were on floor five the pool was on floor three so we were overlooking the pool which was a super cute of you. The pool itself is like they say, very small! However, it was heated in the middle of March, and surprisingly enough it was perfect!!! Also elyse at the bar! She was a star! Made absolutely amazing drinks and told me lots of fun things to do on our day trip to the Keys. Also, they give complimentary beach chairs, umbrellas and towels on the beach for guests! Loved that and took advantage every day of my stay! All around great stay. Nice beach, away from the spring breakers and the art Deco vibes were awesome read more

Friendly staff, small and quaint atmosphere so a lot of one on one conversation with staff. Room was as expected, and clean. I took notes to give a shout out to our server/bartender but I can't find it. He helped create a perfect drink that I was asking for but he had never heard of. It was beautiful and tasty ( he named it a California cucumber) lol The one downside is parking but it's the area , we paid for valet and would have to call 20 minutes ahead. Cannot rave how much I loved staying at the Balfour hotel! From the moment we checked in with William, who we adored. His service, attention to details, and can't forget great conversation, helped us upgrade to their new remodeled room. If you are a plant lover like me, you will love the ambience of nature, surrounded inside and out of this cute quaint hotel. There were complementary bikes that we could use to ride to the beach, which was less than a minute away. And the bar had great drinks, happy hour and lunch specials. I wish I could give this place more stars but really have a hard time doing it. I really want to given it more but can't bring myself. The rooms are very tight and there is a bench in there that is oversized which doesn't give you much room to move around. The bathroom is even smaller and the door opens right by the entry door. Lobby area and outside patio are nice but that's about it. The nicest things about the hotel is the Lavazza coffee makers in the room and the free oranges in the lobby. The beach is nice but of course you have to cross the street to get to the Chairs. Last time in Miami we stayed at the Stanton a block away which is awesome and has a great pool area. Maybe a bit pricier and two blocks farther away from the main drag. read more

A reasonably affordable, historic hotel in South Beach with very stylish decor. Unfortunately the main lobby which houses the restaurant and bar has an overwhelming moldy smell. Fortunately our room was in a different building and only smelled like mildew in the shower. However the room opens to the outside, motel style, even though this place calls itself a hotel. Luckily in January it wasn't too busy so the room was quiet at night, but it opened to a central pool which plays music until 10:30pm. The bed was too soft but the room was otherwise reasonably comfortable. Especially noteworthy was the large shower, though it did reek of mildew. At checkin we asked if there was parking and they said no, just $45 valet. This hotel gives a good effort but I would not return. read more

Booked this hotel because I like the mid century modern look and feel of being " at home." It's nice and cool and cozy. The room was very clean. The bed and pillow are on the firmer side. The only thing I would change about our stay is that they had down pillows or soft pillow options.. The check in process was stress-free and easy. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They allowed us to leave our bags if we needed extra time to check out the beach. It's a few minutes from the beach. They offer bike rentals the first two hours are free. A pool with a pretty view and a rooftop corner. The breakfast is really good as well as the dinner menu. Drinks are also good. Really enjoy the patio out front with the fans, it's a relaxing and pretty viewpoint. read more

Hotel is charming and right across the street from the beach. It is perfectly located on the ave and walkable to so many things.

We had an early arrival into Miami so I took the chance and asked if they had early check in. Mind you, it was barely 8:30am so I really thought I knew they were going to say no especially since check in isn't until 4pm. The lady that answered the front desk phone said yes hurry and come now and we will get you checked in. Everyone was so friendly and very welcoming. They asked us if it was our first time in town and if we needed any recommendations on where to go. The hotel is right on the main strip. They provide towels,chairs and umbrellas for the beach. The only negative thing is parking but that's everywhere in town. They do have the option of valet for $50 a day. I give this hotel 10 stars! read more

Let me tell you that this hotel is a great place to stay. The staff can't do enough for you. Plus, there's a restaurant and bar downstairs if you are getting hungry or just want a cocktail they have this cute pool which kinda looks like a very large hot tub, and it was perfect temperature to take a dip in. If you are a smoker there's definitely a spot to get your fix. I have to say Miami is definitely smoker friendly. There's also a spot on the beach for the hotel guests with an umbrella and chairs included. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends. read more

Super small rooms and bad service. I made the mistake of getting a room through a online service for the 2 room suite. After I checked in, I was escorted to a closet sized room that was definitely not the picture in the ad or the description of what my reservation said. Management refused to give me the room that I paid for. Parking is non existent in the neighborhood, so I used valet. The morning of my departure, it took almost an hour to have my car retrieved. Worst experience ever. The location is great and blocks from the beach, but there are plenty of other quality choices to pick from. I will never return read more

Overall it was a good stay. The hotel has been recently remodeled and does look nice. I booked the room from booking.com for my husband and I's anniversary. I was even told they would have a bottle of bubbly waiting for us but there was none. The 328 room we had was HOT! I didn't see any bed bugs or anything. No matter what you set the thermostat too...it was always 76-78 degrees. The ceilings in the room were concrete and there were NO ceiling fans which would have helped with the cooling of the rooms. I had to pile up clothes and dirty towels around the door to provide some ability to prevent leak around the door due to poor to no weather stripping. I had to wait a few hours for maintenance to come up and fix a bathroom light that would not cut off and it shined in our eyes through a glass wall from the bathroom to the our bed. Apparently...it was a bad switch. Then, I would have someone knocking on my door at almost 8 PM to provide room service!?! They don't warn you of this up front but where I come from ...you don't just show up that late, knocking on someone door saying u going to clean the room and restock. Apparently, the front desk staff stated they come until 10pm to clean rooms! Well who knew?!? I have stayed at MANY hotels and that has never been the case. Sorry...it's just weird. I enjoyed the wonderful restaurant downstairs. Great Chef and Bartenders. The pool is a spa pool which means it's small and hot all the time. Courtyard is nice to eat at. Restaurant manager checked on us and was very friendly. Hotel manager didn't address anyone and would just let just walk people by without even a hello. I love the rooftop area to lay out and chill. It was cooler to sit up there at night and people watch. They do not have balconies in any room, Booking.com stated they did. They also have bikes to use around south beach. Though...I didn't realize that until my last day. I would say better communication with better check in instructions by staff would have help a lot. They do provide beach chairs for free at the beach with just a couple minutes walk from hotel. They are already set up for you but you have to rent the umbrella which was $10.00, but worth it! FYI: You can use the yelp coupon for the restaurant and get 25% off a meal. The restaurant is just attached to hotel but they are their own Inity. I would have given 4 stars had I gotten a good rest, cool room, and received the bubbly that was promised to me. read more

The first night I was bitten by a bed bug but I thought maybe it was a mosquito .. the second night I had been bitten 5+ times and woke up at 3:00am to more bites. the manager was non responsive to the staffs emails about the issue. I was told that my clothes would be cleaned and they never were, instead on my best-friends bachelorette weekend I had to wear pajamas and also had to take my own clothes to be washed and dry cleaned (to a place they recommended) My clothes were then ruined. Once I finally heard back from the manager they told me they would comp one night from my stay (that was lie he never did) instead they took off 100$ worth of resort fees for a 700+stay. My group was really disappointed in our visit to Balfour Hotel. Pro - prime location on south beach and close access to the beach and attractions - spacious lobby that was great for working from vacation - friendly and personable staff Con - service: we asked daily for a room cleaning at the front desk and were promised a cleaning, and our room was never cleaned for the duration of our visit. - amenities: although online it was discussed that there were recent million-dollar upgrades, we suffered through extremely thin walls. I had a lovely stay here. Check in was quick and easy. It came with a coupon for some free drinks at the bar. We got the one bedroom suite (room 428). It was a spacious room with nice amenities. We would definitely stay in this room again. The location is great! The beach is across the street and everything else is a short walk. The only advice I have for the hotel is to paint the pool. Found this spot through Expedia and was pleasantly surprised of just how spectacular the experience has been staying there Super friendly staff and great location just steps from the beach. New owners took over a few months ago and from what I overheard gave the place a new identity. I have stayed here several times these past two months and love this hotel and all of the staff are really awesome. The food for breakfast, lunch and dinner is great. I love sparking water and they have a nice cold sparkling water machine which is just the correct amount of carbonation and always great with a meal and secretly wish I could bring it back home with me lol. The lobby and front area is great for relaxing or getting work done and the layout of the hotel has a comfortable historic fee to it. The first rook was a little tight for a regular room option, but with the larger room choices which I booked next it has plenty of space. The beds are comfortable and lots of natural light from the widows. Rainfall shower heads, comfortable desk option, thick walls, fancy coffee amaker and pleasant decor were my l highlights for the room. I will be sure to return back soon and recommend you check it out if you are looking to stay on the beach. read more

This hotel stayed open and available when there was a lot of uncertainty about the tropical storm Ian; when I arrived, Marisol was the sole employee there and she graciously showed me to my room which was cool, clean and comfortable. This hotel did so much during my stay here. On my second day I woke up feeling very sick and went to the hospital. I spent the night in the hospital and when I was discharged I was still very fatigue. Due to all of that they allowed us to stay past check out time because our flight home was at 8:50p.m and they're check out time is 11am. They allowed us to stay until 4pm which was perfect. They always asked how I was feeling, the manager there was a very nice woman was was genuinely concerned for me, which tells me this is a place of hospitality. The bar tender was also an amazing staff member, I never caught either of their names but I'm sure they'll know who I'm talking about them. So obviously from everything they did for my bf and I, I had to write a strong review and I hope people read this and from this review you go and stay at their hotel because it's entirely worth it. read more

This is an overpriced motel. Rooms are super small, and they have a damp smell. Also the price is way too much for what you get. There is no pool and the bed didn't even have real sheets on it - they just used a sheet instead of a fitted sheet and towels are not nice. I checked into this "boutique hotel" on Thursday October 11, 2019. Upon arrival, no one greeted me to check my bags or direct me to the check in desk. Something I can live with. I was at the hotel 3 nights before it was finally cleaned. I've had to got to the front desk everyday to request it be cleaned, to no avail and to request wash cloths. The staff is completely unprofessional and unaccommodating. I've never stayed at a hotel, in the United States and had the problems I had here. When I arrived I told the front desk person that I would be using the valet services for the rental, she told it would cost $40 per night and then proceeded to tell me to go park it and bring the key back. Maybe I'm wrong but that's not how valet parking works, Melissa. I was given the cell number of a manager,Yovanna. I may have the spelling wrong. When I spoke to her yesterday she had no clue what I was speaking of and I made several requests to speak with a manager. Unacceptable. read more

We had the unfortunate experience of staying here last weekend. When we got in our bed at night, we discovered gross hair, dirt and glitter. There is no way of contacting the front desk from the room, so my husband tried to call but no one answered. He got dressed and went to tell the front desk and she immediately came to change the sheets herself. She let us know that they had no cleaning service on a Saturday night. Before I continue with this disgusting story, I'll add the bathroom also had loose hair all over the place. She informed us that her manager was aware and would be calling us the next day. We're still waiting on that call (it's been 4 days). We actually got the managers number and my husband tried to call her the next day and left a voicemail. Don't stay here. This was a stay for a business trip. Good location for attending a conference at the Miami Beach Convention Center. This is a no frills property; a place to hang your clothes, shower and sleep. The hallways are darker than they should be, and if you're not an early riser, don't stay here. Two mornings during my stay - at 4AM and 5AM - someone was screaming and walking back and forth in front of the hotel. Sounded like he was having a psychotic episode. For this business trip I had my car and used their valet service - $45/night - welcome to Miami Beach. On my second night, after a 14 hour day, I returned to the hotel at about 9:30PM, left my car in front as I always did and handed the keys to the front desk. Edson was working the valet that night and was the only one on duty. I don't know how long it took him to move the car but apparently it wasn't fast enough for Miami Beach's finest. A $46 parking ticket was waiting for me - issued almost 30 minutes after I left the car - when the valet service brought my car around the next morning. Of course, no one at the valet service or hotel thought they should make this right. No one wanted to take responsibility. Noted. I have colleagues from around the world that gather annually for this conference and they're always looking for a decent place to stay. This won't be on the list. The hunt for a decent hotel for a business stay on the beach continues. read more

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The bathroom was 100% unacceptable. Nowhere to put anything. Soap and toiletries had to go on the shower floor. Normal hotel toiletries, shower gel,lotions ,hand soap etc. were not provided. Fresh towels were not provided daily. Bedroom and bathroom were not cleaned daily. Beds were not made up daily. Apparently these services had to be specifically requested?? Electrical outlet in bathroom did not work. I could not dry my hair. Water in disposable plastic bottles looked milky. It is my opinion that the plastic bottles were filled with water from the faucets. Caps on the water bottles were not tight. I was refunded 50% of my stay when I discussed all the unacceptable shortcomings with a staff member and let her know I had photographs of all. read more

Horrible experience! Me and my friend booked this get away trip through Airbnb. The greeting on the first day was well our room was ready earlier than expected, but then things went left our room had a bad smell (stomach Turing). We then asked for a new room they said sure but no one called to tell us when it was ready. We get to the new room (smells better) house keeping never showed until we requested them on Sunday afternoon. After the front desk women rudely told me the have until 6pm but the NEVER showed since Friday when we checked in, not the room smells again from trash bad towels and a weird smell coming from the vent.
