My second visit ... since the first one a few weeks ago was a little disappointing ... was delicious. I asked our kind and attentive waitress, Alex, what dishes she recommended and seafood topped her list. So I ordered the salad w seared tuna. We also ordered fish & chips. The red sangria paired well and so did the cold beer on tap. I so enjoyed the fresh greens and tuna ... a new fave. The fish & chips was quite good so we'd order that again too. It was a beautiful early summer's eve and the Long Island Sound with pristine Rye Beach filled the panoramic view. I savored the setting, appreciated the honesty and eagerness of the staff, truly enjoyed the food and am happy to see the freshly renovated Barley Beach House make my list of preferred restaurants in Westchester County. read more

This is the worst place to go! The girls at the front seat are very nasty and rude. This place is run by kids. they lie about which tables are taken if they don't want to sit you. I have been there a few times and this last time topped it off for me. It started raining and no one cane out to move our food in and the girls at the desk said we couldn't sit inside that the tables were reserved since we got there bit they were empty the whole time. Everyone who was on the rain sat in on those tables and they lied to us. I honestly don't know how this place stays open with these young girls running it. the owners should know how much money there losing and how they wont sit people when they have all open tables. ill never be back here again. its a shame because its right on the beach. read more

Just had brunch here with my family for an early Mother's Day celebration! Me and my mother in law ordered off the brunch menu and really loved our selections. I had the breakfast burrito and it was perfect- rice, guacamole, and chorizo. My mother in law ordered the Eggs Benedict and my spouse got the the tuna sandwich with wasabi sauce. We all loved our choices. It was rainy but we still loved the Long Island sound/water views. I took a photo of our appetizer but forgot to snap the entrees! My third visit to Barley Beach house was a disappointment! Not a busy Saturday night and there was light rain. Our entrees took 45 minutes and came our cold and soggy. We were really bummed that the quality and service lacked especially when our last visit was more positive. I hope management will provide more oversight. read more

The atmosphere was very relaxing by the water and the staff was excellent. The food needs improvement fish tacos were made with poor choice of fish they were mushy inside and didn't have any flavor. The turkey burger was dry and flavorless. The pretzel was good. read more

I'm 5 months pregnant standing in the lobby waiting. Two people showed up, happened to be friends with a manager, he greeted them and gave our table away. Manager comes up and asks me "Did you tell me you are waiting for that table" (no apologies or anything) my reply was if I needed to tell kitchen that too. What a joke, never again. I went with a group of friends for July 4th. We sat outside. It's a little odd because you can't park in the parking lots without being a resident, but they don't let you know that on the phone and they don't give other options for parking. We were greeted kindly, but it would be nice if they mention safety protocols as they greet you and seat you. I had a lovely time with my friends. The server was kind and attentive. Toward the end of our meal I went to the restroom and was disturbed to see both people behind the bar without face masks. I walked past the kitchen and no one in the kitchen had their masks on properly. Then when I was waiting in line for the restroom, the manager was toward the front of the line not wearing his mask properly or social distancing and the busboy came up to him with his mask around his neck and stood two feet in front of him talking about something. It definitely put a cloud over the evening for me. One wants to assume that safety protocols are being followed behind the scenes. It was an eye opening experience for me. A friend who was with me called the restaurant and they assured her that they are on top of things and that isn't the norm. The food was good. Our server was good. And the view is stunning!!! But the lack of following safety protocols is an issue which needs to be resolved. read more

Judging from a lot of one star reviews, I wasn't the only patron who was ignored for 20 minutes and had to ask the hostess for service. Food was good, weight staff was helpful and polite once they showed up. Definitely not enough servers there, so would blame that on poor management. Interesting to note when a table of four men were seated, the lead hostess/lead server attended to them immediately. Not surprised. We just went here for my birthday and let me start by saying that everyone was very nice. Our server had the utmost patience With us and was very sweet. However, the food was underwhelming. I wanted a piece of fish and was surprised that beyond salmon, a restaurant on the water did not have a fish entree aside from a salad with a fish add or sandwich. I wound up ordering a cobb salad with tuna but unfortunately the tuna was not good. It was cooked too much and just did not taste good. I sent it back and the kitchen was nice enough to offer to make me anything I wanted. I was honestly full from the delicious appetizers so I waited for dessert. I've come here 4 or 5 times now and every time the service gets worse. Not sure why I keep having false hope that it will be better. Every time I come they always say it's a long wait and we need reservations, meanwhile 65% of the tables are empty. The excuse every time is they are short staffed and I just believe it's poor management. It costs $30 to park because it is at the beach. They will give you $5 off per table for this. Ridiculous. I wanted to just go into the kitchen and serve my self. I ordered a large bottle of sparking water with lime. First I just got the bottle. No glass. Then I asked for a glass and lime. The best thing about this location is it's view. The restaurant is pretty, the staff is nice, the food even tasted good...my problem, parking was $20, no credit given toward it. The food though tasty was overpriced and the portions were inadequate. We ordered the CT lobster roll, tasty but way too small for the price, my husband order the mussels. The curry sauce on the mussels was very good but I have had larger appetizers for less money. Parking is supposed to be free after 7pm, perhaps I will go back for a sunset and a drink. Had a great first experience! Went early on a Saturday night. Ordered a drink (forgot the name but it was great), the fried calamari, street corn, and surf and turf. It was all delicious. A little on the pricey side especially since the parking is $15 for 2 hours . Thankfully they validated our parking receipt for $5 off. I honestly think they could do a little better with the parking situation, but was happy they at least did something. I would've loved to stay for even longer to enjoy some drinks but felt pressured because of my two hour time limit and didn't want to pay even more for the parking! THIS WAS THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE! I wouldn't go back if they paid me. We sat down, and were ignored for 10 mins, okay fine maybe it's busy, then we get menus but no water. My boyfriend and I order the Ahi Sandwich and Boil to share. The sandwich comes out fine but the boil HAS A HUGE PIECE OF HAIR RIGHT ACROSS THE TOP. Now because I was inspecting my food I noticed this piece of crab with the body but only one leg on top as well cause I thought it was odd. I call the waitress, she takes the food, 15 minutes go by and she brings back A COLD BOIL with that same piece of crab. Clearly you just picked the hair off and left it sitting back there. GROSS. Now I call the manager. He apologized and swears it's not the same plate. He then asks if we want something else. After MUCH back and forth we settle on a Lobster Roll. It was very ... fine. The bill comes and the Lobster Roll is on it. What?!? You convinced me to get it to begin with!! I didn't want anything and he essentially upcharged me a replacement for A HAIR IN MY FOOD. Potential! Visited twice in the past week or so. Food has definitely improved from SJ days - but that isn't saying much TBQH. Interior renovation also a great improvement. Menu does need better descriptions and portion/price adjustments. A haphazardly strewn fistful of spinach, pinch of dusty slivered almonds and one strawberry cut in half with some highlighter pink colored dressing splattered across the top with a half palm sized piece of simply grilled dark meat chicken will cost you close to $30 all in tax + tip without a drink. Big miss - even the waitress realized how bad it looked and asked us if we wanted something else. That was the only redeeming part of the service. Arrived and was told 45-1 hr wait for table, that's fine, we're on the beach, let's check out this brand new bar and take a load off! We sat at the bar for 15 minutes without any acknowledgment from bartenders, ordered a round of drinks which were then forgotten about. Countless tables empty but 45 minute wait? A ton of people walked out waiting for tables at the bar while tables sat empty 5 feet away. Hosts holding tables too long for a long list of no-shows. Host stand needs a better method on keeping tables moving and keeping them from staying empty. Lost revenue! After 45 minutes of staring at empty tables we went up to the host and noticed our name had been listed next but no attempt to come get us seated? Polite and sweet hosts but no clue how to run tables. However, even with empty tables around us service could barely keep up. Had to ask for nearly every aspect of standard service. Had to ask for cutlery three times for each course (they insisted on taking cutlery after each course, maddening), water refills, drink and food order. Presented with check after appetizers for some reason? Calamari was delicious! Surprise it's spicy! No mention of hot peppers or honey in description. Wicked Tuna Sandwich was good, they could upgrade the bread though. It tasted like pre sliced cardboard - otherwise good and fries were on point. Burger was basic, run of the mill. We saw some other entrees and items flying by and most of it 'looked good.' Overall, you're mostly there for the view and should assume you're paying for it in some way with food and drink prices. Food has a shaky start but seemingly sound foundation. With that said, Barley House needs to at least make major improvements to service if they expect to make it through 9 years of Rye and its surrounding communities discerning tastes and expectations. I'll come back for a beer with a view but likely won't tread into a lunch or dinner service anytime soon. Hoping this place works out the newbie kinks and can realize the full potential this location presents. If you have a hankering for fresh seafood dishes prepared well with service to match check out Saltaire in PC. No view or outdoor seating but airy and nautical! The service was deplorable ! Five people were at our table. After 45 minutes one person was served. 39 minutes later, the other 4 were served ! We had to ask for salt and pepper. After everyone was served the appetizer was brought to the table. Wait staff needs training. Management was told and never came to the table to apologize. Loved this place! Made a reservation for an outside table and honestly felt like it was the best table in the house! Excellent views of beach and water! Started with the GIANT pretzel (and it was!) the fried clams and the fried calamari. All were excellent! The calamari was cooked perfectly - loved that the batter had just the right amount of seasoning in it! Was a little surprised that clams came on a large bed of French fries which were yummy! Also started with the Channel Marker from the cocktail menu which was great. I order the PEI mussels and absolutely loved them!!! The garlic butter sauce they were cooked in was delicious and the toast points were perfect for dipping! Other in my group had the halibut, wild tuna sandwich and Fish and chips we all loved our meals. Will say might need better signage leading you to restaurant. So, I've been coming to Oakland beach for 15 years. The resturants that had this space in the past were always overpriced seafood with a view. Sadly, westchester has little to no Options for waterfront dining that isn't on the Hudson. So, enter the barley beach house with promises of something better than what was there before. It's different but not better. Long lines to sit outside on a lovely Friday night are to be expected. I placed a to go order so I could sit with my family on the grass of the park and have a meal. I don't eat seafood so with a place like this I know I'm limiting myself. I decided a turkey club with fries would be a safe choice. My family got a few other things. I placed order. They gave me a pick up time online 40 mins later. I couldn't really understand why. I went in 30 mins later to see if it was ready maybe a little early. The hostesses were pleasant and checked into the room go order. "Just a few mins. They are getting it ready." My husband and I waited ten mins and finally thought let's grab a drink. So we told the hostesses we were going to grab a drink to go. Went up to bar. Checked out the room. Ordered a beer and I figured I'd get a pina colada. Prior establishment had awesome cocktails. The bartender, brought us back the beer and pina colada. We paid the overpriced prices that you'd expect. We walked back over to see if food was ready. The hostesses were now very overwhelmed with groups coming into see what the wait was and then basically leaving( 2.5 hours at that point to sit outside). Same hostess who had looked into our food earlier asks "can I help you?" We remind her "yes we are waiting on the to go order. It really should be ready now." She asks for a minute. 5 minutes later another hostess comes with our food. So in total 55 mins wait for very basic food order. 1. The pina colada was horrible. Literally just slush that had no flavor. I wager to say that there was zero rum in it at all. I couldn't even taste anything. No pineapple no actual coconut cream. As I sipped it waiting for the food I contemplated going back to the bartender but I couldn't bring myself to do it. What a total waste of money. I poured it out after sipping half. 2. My turkey sandwich was disgusting. It was four pieces of thick cult cold cut turkey folded in half on my bun. Thick. Gross. I was actually so grossed out by cold cut turkey. How do you charge $18 for just a sandwich and it's slimy cold cut meat. No fresh turkey meat. Compounded processed cold cut. Absolutely never again this place get one dollar of my money. The prior establishments weren't A+ but they kept getting my money when I wanted a meal and was at Oakland. read more

Amazing beach front location! Cannot beat the views. We came here on a quiet Monday evening and sat outside with heaters. It was really a lovely experience because it was just us and one other couple. The food was classic comfort food, we ordered the fish and chips and the burger, both of which were pretty good. A big shout out to our waitress, we didn't catch her name, it was our first time going out for dinner with our 16mo old toddler, and she really made us feel comfortable and gave us lots of great tips for a successful evening out as new parents! We ended up ordering the guacamole it tasted like the supermarket stuff and was waay too spicy we didn't like it I ordered the overpriced lobster roll for 26 dollars simply not worth it. one thing was worse than the others the service was horrible the band was waaay too loud we could not even have a conversation. the prices are NYC prices even though you are in the boon docks so I would not recommend anyone to eat here.
