The food and drink lines were over a 45 minute wait which had to be done 3 times just to get food from the buffet, a drink, and a burger. I would only come back here for the view. There were about three tables full so it's a wonder why it took so long to get our order. Eventually everything came out at once which is not what I expected if ordering drinks and appetizers. I cannot understand how Lump Crab Cocktail came in shreds and sitting on a lettuce leaf on top of melting ice so that it eventually got water mixed in. It came with carrots and celery for decoration. We got the barley burger and cheese pizza which was great. The tuna sandwich came on burnt toast and no wasabi mayo. Great house salad though even though I had to remove two wilted leaves. The steak and eggs were nothing like other pictures and loaded with sweet potatoes. . The meat was colorless and small but split open to look bigger? This place started out with a bang about three years ago. Then it gradually went COMPLETELY down hill. Service sucks, food is now mediocre, at best. My wife and I went last night for the first time this season, hoping it had improved since last season. No. We waited 25 minutes for two Sangria's. When they arrived, I asked the waitress if I could expect the same sort of incompetance if I ordered food. She said yes, and compt us the drinks. We left,and went to 'Averno' in Rye. A real disappointment, considering the fine location. It could heve been a great experience. The owners should be ashamed that they're pissing away a good opportunity. read more

I came by last Sunday at 4pm. There were plenty of tables available however "we're going to have to start a waitlist" is what the young lady at the front said....a 45min wait list. I don't understand why, I asked and she said those tables were reserved. Fine, we waited anyway. Then when we finally got seated, our waitress wasn't the friendliest. I don't mind no small talking, but she barely acknowledged us. As she was taking our order I asked if they have frozen margaritas - she said there were no frozen drinks. And later when a party sat next to us, their waitress (which was super friendly) recommended the frose...interesting. When our food came, our waitress never came by to check on us - we needed a couple extra things like napkins and plates. We ordered a pizza and salad but never got plates. We ate directly from the big plates, very uncomfortable. I also had to remind the waitress that we were still waiting for the chicken sandwich and she looked at me like I was crazy. Smh. To add, we left by around 6:30pm and the tables that were "reserved", we're still empty. Except one which was offered to a pair of ladies who were sitting inside having drinks. They must have made a reservation right then and there. Overall just terrible. It's a shame because we like the area and would have liked to return. read more

Worse place ever! Went there on Labor Day, Lobster rolls were overcooked, greasy, and overpriced. It took thirty minutes for the two of us to get a drink order. We also had the fried clam strips that were also overcooked and greesy. We tried to give them another try today on Sept 12th. Was seated, no one came over to us for forty minutes, we then put a drink and food order, that that never came. We waited another forty minutes. That being said we left without any drinks or food. PROS: On the beach. CONS: Poor food quality. Overpriced menu. Inattentive staff. Poorly constructed food and drink menus for a BEACH restaurant. So. Here's the issue. When a crawfish Caesar salad is $21, and you ask if you can have ANYTHING else besides crawfish and you're given a ton of grief that everything is pre-portioned and the chef "doesn't like to make any changes" take it as a warning. Eventually they said okay and they can give me salmon instead, but it was raw (see photos below). Also, THIS was a $21 salad... take it in folks. $21. Look this is a prime restaurant space on the beach. How are there NOT frozen drinks? No pina colada, no mudslide, no frozen margarita? They had a Frose and that was it. Apparently I was very difficult too because after I told her the salmon was raw, the waitress walked away shaking her head with her hands over her temples. I'm not sorry for having standards. The GM came back to address the salad and he said "well usually the salmon is medium and that's our standard". So I poked it, looked at him and he said "well right, that's obviously uncooked and very rare". Came back with their fried chicken sandwich, and it was over cooked and dry beyond anything edible at all. My son had a giant pretzel which was very good. The fries were subpar. Gf got the lobster roll which was good. Overall: unless menu options and price points are adjusted, AVOID this place. The bosses/owners need to get more involved!!!Half the tables- almost all the outdoor ones- were mostly empty today because of their lack of reasonable policies, while most customers were crowded inside in the over-air conditioned freezing indoors, because of reservation policies. They let people reserve outdoor tables, but don't call or text people asking them to confirm , & don't have a policy of only holding tables 15 minutes like most restaurants- they held them the whole hour, so outdoor tables (reserved) stayed mostly empty for hours. Also , service was slow, probably understaffed. Also, they don't think to give you a plate for shellfish shells, vs just putting them on the table; we shouldn't have to ask. Bosses- do some training! The service here is terrible. Our waitress never checked back one time. In fact, she maybe switched sections without notifying us. It was a sh*t show. It was our first time to this restaurant. Friday night in July, 8pm reservation. Was busy, but not packed. There were certainly open tables both indoors and outdoors, however there was a private party on the beach. Not busy enough in the actual restaurant for service to suffer like it did. They also do not have correct pricing on the menus. The steak my husband ordered was marked $37 on the menu and they charged us $51 on our bill. This is not a steakhouse and the steak was not that great for $37, let alone $51. They amended the bill when we said something. I had the steak sandwich and it was actually pretty good. I'm not sure we would ever come back here given the poor service and high prices. Last week I had the absolute pleasure of dining in at The Barley Beach House. The view, drinks and food are all amazing, but the service was even better!! My friend and I were lucky enough to have Melissa as our server for the night and she was amazing! Very friendly and attentive! She made a good experience into a great one! We will absolutely be going back and requesting that Melissa be our server. I had the chicken caesar wrap (10/10) and my friend had the steak sandwich (also, 10/10). Perfect place for a date night!!! Service: I know there's a lot of reviews about the service but our service was fantastic, gave us zero problems. The hosts were very helpful and got us in right away. Our server was also super helpful and nice. If we needed anything, she was there. There wasn't a long wait for the food. Drinks: great selection of drinks. Sadly they ran out of froze, but they brought me a spike frozen lemonade and it was great. Highly recommend on a hot day. Food: Came here to try the CT lobster roll. It came out perfectly cooked, fresh and buttery, definitely filling. For $1 more I got fries with it. My boyfriend got the steak with fries and he said it was also great. But they have a perfect selection of food, whether you want to dine in or have some finger food. Live music: One other thing that drew me to this place was the live music, especially on a nice summer night. I'm a huge fan of live music So there's nothing like eating a lobster roll with a beautiful view while listening to some good live music. Literally such a vibe. Parking: this is the only complaint I have. I hate parking in rye town park. Ever since they changed the pricing, it's soooo expensive to park here. It cost me $10 to park, even as a resident because there's no way to say I'm a resident on the machine. If you want to park, make sure to park at least at playland because then you can walk around and enjoy the area before or after you eat. There's a cute duck pond and the board walk. Had brunch there today on Saturday. Food was very good, we had Frittata, Breakfast Pizza and Pancake Tacos. Pretty special versions for Brunch, great. What a great addition to Westchesters' restaurants on the water scene! As with their sister restaurants The Barley House in Thornwood and Barley on the Hudson in Tarrytown, food and beer selection is always great. Have already stopped in for appetizers and beers for the view several times. Hosted my sons 2nd birthday party at the pavilion next door over the weekend with catering by the Barley Beach House. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We waited over 90 minutes for a table we were told would take about 5 min to clean. When finally seated, we asked to pull another table over to accommodate our large party. The hostess refused and called her manager who was equally as rude. I understand they were busy when we arrived, but by the time they seated us 90 minutes later, it was so late that there were PLENTY of tables available. Couldn't understand why they were so opposed to having our full party seated together instead of 2 tables "nearby" one another. It was the most bizarre and unnecessarily rude experience all for the bargain price of $355.00. If you want to be treated poorly, this is the place to go. The manager came out to ask if I wanted something else or to try again and I was so aggravated and done at that point that I didn't want anything else. The check came and the nice kid who brought it was convincing me to order something else "maybe a dessert? That always makes me feel better." I agreed for a dessert. The new check came and we were CHARGED for the desserts the nice boy was convincing me to order. Such bad costumer service!!! The rest of the food was also over fried. We've been coming here since it was opened - we really like the view and the concept of the restaurant - BUT - after three years they still have poor (but enthusiastic) service - wait way too long to get served - way to long for the food to be presented. We think by now they would have figured it out. Really interesting and going upscale in the menu. The salmon, and seared tuna over a wasabi flavored barley, works well with the traditional burgers and dish & chips. Drinks are good pours as well. Still it's new, beach house setting with better food ( which still needs work, liked the seared tuna but it was a little dry for my taste) is still a work in progress. But in my opinion, they are going in the right direction. Only problem is parking - non residents competing with beach goers must pay $40 for Public parking, if over 2 hours.
