Stumbled into this place by accident. Cool dark cave like feel with a nice beer selection . Homemade potato chips were good but the deep fried banana peppers stole the show . I've never seen banana peppers deep fried whole like this , very good . Staff was very friendly. read more

Got overcharged here by the bartender during happy hour. Bartenders were more interested in their own conversation than serving my party and I. Place is dirty and unorganized. Also, for a place called Beerhive they had a really poor tap selection and everything was overpriced. You can bacon-infuse any burger on the menu, where they add freshly ground bacon right into the ground beef before they form the burger. EXCELLENT. They only cook them one way and you have to pay $1 extra for fries instead of chips. The food Is good enough to get 3 and a half stars but their extravagant beer menu pushes it up to 4. Went to this restaurant over the weekend and I absolutely loved it! They did not have a large selection of beer which surprised me but the food was amazing. Everyone I came with loved their food. I got the pork tacos and they were very very good. We also got the chicken nachos as an appetizer and they were amazing. All the ingredients on the nachos were fresh. The lighting was a little dim so it was hard to read the menu. It was super packed but we were able to find seats on the second floor. They only had one girl working the bar and all the tables on the second floor so service was a little slow at first. Pricing of the food was very reasonable. I will definitely be going back to the beerhive in the near future. read more

Had my hotel switched at the last minute from downtown to the "strip" this was one of the better bars in the area. I was in town for work for the week the first two nights were excellent. I've never had anything as good as those loaded fries (they call them fry pies). The bartender for the first two nights was Carolyn who was excellent, the second two nights. Well I don't want to get anyone in trouble but they really were terrible. Cut me off for tripping up their broken stair case. (I wasn't drunk it was dark and the staircase was in bad repair) Would definitely suggest he fry pies. Would not suggest the comedy night. (Wednesday) read more

Sat a table waited 20 minutes as waitress waited on table next to us-decided to get a beer directly from the bar, only one bartender-another 20 minutes tried numerous times to get the attention of the over worked waitress, to no avail as she waited on only one or two other tables. Coming in from a small distant town, my first thought walking down the sidewalk was this is a little, and maybe slightly rundown tavern. Then I went in the door and found out how wrong I was! I enjoy trying beers and ales that I have not had before. I could find a number of previously tried beers BUT I also found a goodly number I had never even heard of. I enjoyed the new ones I tried. Went back on my next visit to the "Strip" (Maybe somebody can clue me in why it is called "The Strip District". From the name I thought various "Gentleman's Clubs and such were the reason but I didn't see anything like that at all.), This visit was in the lunch hour. Had one of the Mushroom and Swiss burgers with fries. I found the fries to be a bit different than what I had previously experienced. They were breaded with some kind of thin batter. It gave plain old ordinary fries a brand new and much improved taste. Tried another different brew. Enjoyed it and hated the several hundred miles that were next on my agenda that prevented enjoying several more new and different brews. Next time I am in the "Strip District" I figure on going back. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to stop in the Strip on a saturday or sunday afternoon, mid shopping trip, to refuel and regroup with an adult beverage. What first brought me in the door a couple of years ago was the name. Honestly I did the quick glance and thought it said Beehive and it reminded me of the coffee shop that used to be in oakland during my college years so I walked in. Only after entering did I realize it said beerhive-very clever. They have a sweet draft selection-lots of good crafts on tap and they rotate fairly often. There are plenty of tvs at the bar too in order to watch whatever game you want to view. I've never had a problem grabbing some seats at the bar, but there are also some tables if that is your preference. Service has always been friendly and efficient. I have yet to eat here in all the years I've been coming to the Beerhive (usually because I'm full from getting my edgar's taco fix) but everything I have seen people order-particularly the wings and burgers-looks and smells amazing. I'd recommend stopping in for at least a beer and to rest your legs after walking the strip. read more

This is great place. All the food including the condiments and dressings are all homemade. I came one day for lunch and decided to come back 3 more times this week. All the foods are extremely well balanced and complex. The atmosphere is low key with a hip vibe. Perfect bar for the 30 somethings. This was my second trip to The Beerhive during stays in Pittsburgh...loved it so much the first time we planned our trip around stopping in! Pittsburgh is definitely not as advanced as Cbus with the microbreweries but the Beerhive has a great selection of beer on draft and in bottle. I tried the fried pickles which are made with Pickles from the Pittsburgh Pickle Company, which I was told is also the same owners at the Beerhive. The pickles were fantastic! The breading was amazing as well as the dipping sauce! We also stopped back on the way out of town to buy a few jars of the pickles...affordable and delicious! Service was also excellent! read more

This is now our strip district watering hole! Upon wondering around the strip, we starting talking to a lady, we now know is Amy. She was very nice to talk to and invited us to visit her at work, she was headed in for her shift. So we did! Amy and carol took care of me and my husband. They let us sample two beers, and we picked a growler from that. They were both so nice and provided such great service. As a service industry couple, we appreciate friendly bartenders that know their stuff. We didn't eat, but they spoke highly of the food. BeerHive is a nice place to stop and enjoy a brew while walking through the Strip District. They have a fair number of beers on tap and a refrigerator full of bottles. The bar menu has some good sounding selections that I'd like to revisit. I wasn't thrilled with the flavor of the maple-bacon wings (basically just topped with maple syrup and bacon crumbles), but the size and consistency of the wings were great. They use to have a HUGE beer selection upstairs, but when I came in this time all they had was two small cases downstairs. I am very disappointed. And beers only come chilled now. If I am shopping and can't keep the beers chilled, then they get warm. The bartender assured me going from chilled to warm then chilled again is no issue, but I know better. I had an overall good first experience at BeerHive. The food was much better than I would have expected for "bar food." I ordered the chicken fingers and they had a delicious sweet potato breading- amazing! My friend tried a burger and also had nothing but good things to say about it. Fries were ok, nothing special. Fairly limited menu, but everything we ordered was good. The on tap beer selection was nothing to rave about, which I found surprising for a specialty beer bar. I would have expected more than 8-10 beers on tap. It was a good variety of more unusual beers, however. My main complaint was that the type of beer (ie. wheat, stout, IPA) was not listed anywhere. Our waitress was new, so she was unable to answer any of our questions about the beer selection. They did seem to have an extensive bottle beer selection, however. Ambience: average. It looks like a typical sports bar. The downstairs bar area is fairly small with only a few tables and a counter along the wall, but there is additional seating upstairs. Menus were shabby looking and could definitely use a makeover. The restaurant itself was clean, at least. Local artwork on walls for purchase. Service: somewhat slow, as I would expect for a new establishment. It took a while for the bartenders and waitress to notice us, even though it wasn't at all busy. Once we ordered, it was quick. We had to ask for glasses- our beers were handed to us in bottles, which seemed weird for a "beer" bar. I would come back again for a drink and a meal, but I wouldn't recommend it to any beer connoisseurs. There are other bars with a more extensive draft list catering to that crowd. Might be a good place to watch sports. There was a Steelers preseason game on TV as we were leaving and most of the people in the bar were there to watch it (complete with yelling at the TV). Went for lunch during a half workday, ordered a couple of beers and a burger. The beers were good, a little pricey for what they were and the glass wasn't the cleanest. We hit the 'Hive for the first time at a weird hour - 11:00am on a Sunday, as they were just opening. We were welcomed in as though we were old friends, tasted a few craft beers, ended up having a Crabbie's (YES! They serve Crabbie's!) and proceeded to devour some of the best food I have ever had in a bar, and I mean EVER! The menu is the exact opposite of humdrum bar food. The BELT sandwich had me begging for more. Sweet potato fries, samosas, fried plantains and wings (so many flavors to choose from) filled us up nicely. I can't wait to go back because there are so many more menu items I wanted to try but my belly wasn't big enough! Great decor - comfortable and really nice. The most rude bartenders I have ever encountered. Great food. It's a shame that the first time I was told to " say the magic word" when I asked to buy a jar of pickles. I was told to say "May I please have a jar of pickles". Gee, does someone have a power issue? My second visit I had ONE drink, but had a couple teenagers who were meeting me there (one wanted to buy pickles for her dad), as it is not a "family " place per se, we were on our way. I ordered another drink and was told I was shut off. I told the bartender that the girls were leaving, and she informed me that it was me that was the problem. I asked what it was, and she didn't have one. I guess that the bartender with short black hair has some sort of issue with females, perhaps she is jealous of attractive females? I am certainly not referring to myself, but if I owned this place I would be very wary. Attractive females usually bring business in. Psycho bartenders do not. Sad because I told everyone how great this place is. Now I am going to tell a different story. read more

I enjoyed my first time at The Beerhive. I didn't think the bar looked like a Steeler's bar, its yellow and black for bees, which I even enjoyed the little bee people on the bathroom doors (bathroom was clean also) ! The food was good, chicken salad actually had real chicken, and you could tell it was a freshly made salad. Service was great, very friendly staff. Prices were reasonable too. They had paintings/photography from local artists on the wall, and more upstairs, which was enjoyable. I would definitely go back! read more
