Came in a slower night. It's a really low key spot. Great selection of draft and canned beer. Hyper local PA spirits and great food selection. Smash burger was delicious. Had a few Hazy IPAs and a bourbon stout. Only criticism was service was kind of blah. Was served right away but my drink sat empty a couple times for 5 plus minutes. One of our favorite places to go in the Strip. They rotate their beer selections with new products after a keg has been kicked and try to never have the same beer twice. Have a huge cooler with bottles from all over so if you like micro - brews this is a great place to chill. Another perk is that they have fantastic food, especially wings. Love their maple bacon and lime cilantro flavors the best and they make their own dill ranch...stuff friggin is awesome. read more

I belong to a MeetUp group called "Strange Brew". We're a group of craft beer enthusiest who get together once a month and we each bring a beer that, hopefully, no one has tried before (that's the challenge, finding one during the weeks leading up to our MeetUp). We alternate between two establishments and tonight it was the BeerHive. As always, the waitstaff was extremely courteous and attententive, the beer list is impressive, and the atmosphere is comfortable and clean. I like it here. Since we always meet on a Tuesday, I always get the Taco Tuesday Special when I'm here -- four beef taco's. Don't think Taco Bell, these tacos have dressed to please. I never walk away hungry. If you're in the Strip and looking for a good beer joint with good food I would highly recommend the BeerHive. read more

Fun, Fun, Fun! Thursday night Trivia. It can get a little crowded but Trivia is always fun. This is a nice bar with about 12 craft beers on tap and lots more in bottles - I think they do growlers. Had to try the wings and ordered Buffalo. The wings were crispy but needed a little more buffalo heat. The blue cheese dressing was ranch with crumbled blue cheese on top, not the way I prefer. We stopped in on a Sunday night and it was very quiet. I was surprised since it was during a Steelers game and all the other surrounding bars seemed to be closed. There wasn't any music or anything playing either so it was awkwardly quiet for parts of the night. The beer selection was decent. They didn't have many options on draft but at least everything they had was of pretty good variety. I was expecting more based on the name of the place.. The food was probably the highlight of the experience. The burgers were excellent and cooked perfectly, while at a very fair price. The Pittsburgh Pickle Company pickle on the side was a solid bonus. I felt like the bartender was pretty stand-offish and definitely did not want to be there. I noticed she was very unpleasant with every single person in the bar, including myself, so that was kind of a downer. The food was great but our server was not so friendly. Any of our questions (or even ordering our food) was met with an off putting response, attitude or tone. It was like she was mad or annoyed with us. After getting our food she never checked in once. We wanted to ask for ranch to go with our chips but never had the opportunity. This place is another great dive bar on the strip in Pittsburgh. The Penn Pumpkin Roll is Amazing, but Make sure you ask for the cinnamon and sugar around the rim. Got half our orders wrong (after not even writing it down) then blaming it on the POS system being "down". Which is obviously was not. The beerhive was a little misleading of a name. I expected bees or at least people wearing bee outfits to serve me beer. Nope. None of it. Bad dad jokes aside, I had an alright time at the Beerhive. If there is something the name alludes to that it didn't deliver, it was the beer selection. Figured it be a bit larger and more extensive. It's not small nor bad, but not what I've come to expect for a place that would boast such a moniker. If you're along the strip here, this is one of the better options. read more

The beehive looks like a typical Pittsburgh bar on the outside, but they're also a surprisingly good lunch spot. They open at 11:30 and are open on Monday which is a rarity in the Strip. The food fantastic. I had the bacon and blue cheeseburger. It comes with two 1/4 patties handled minimally, so you can taste the beef and cooked magnificently on super high heat to form a crunchy crust without overlooking the middle. The bun, cheese, lettuce and tomato were all on point as well. I had French fries as my side for an extra $1. They were fresh cut fries with sea salt and herbs. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle (thank god). Other people at my table had the Belt sandwich, chicken wings and full-on fries. The cheese on the fries was way better than expected, a smoked cheddar sauce. We had no complaints about anything. Service was friendly and fast. I'll definitely be back often. read more

How can you not be drawn in, just by the name alone! Clever, fo sho! So once you're drawn in, what are you drawn to? In keeping with the seasonal theme, I ordered the Southern Tier Pumpking Ale. Delish, as always. They have about 12 or so beers on tap that's clearly written up on a big chalkboard above the bar. I'm into bars that have a wide variety on tap. I can't stand when you go somewhere and all they have is Miller and Coors Light. But for a name like the BeerHive, they really should have more to offer! They also have a big refrigerator with a whole lotta specialty beers to pick from. You can either pick up a beer and drink it there or take out for a "night cap" at home. For "bar food" the food is pretty decent! Sticking with the hive part of beer they have a lot of honey type concoctions. We opted to try a couple wing flavors, as they all looked pretty yummy. We tried the salt n' vinegar, honey bbq, ranch and buffalo. I really enjoyed the salt n' vinegar, being a huge vinegar fan! I also thought the honey bbq was pretty good. We also ordered I REALLY enjoyed the honey bites, mini cinnamon pretzels with honey drizzled on top. YUM-O! They have a lot of different specials, including $1 off beers and $3 apps. The HH special for beers isn't too great, but I love a good deal on food too, so it balances out! They also have a special armature comedy night. I think that would be an interesting thing to see, laugh at them or laugh with them? We'll see! read more

When I visited Pittsburgh first thing I did was visit the Strip District. Mid-Afternoon hit and I was feeling pretty hungry and since I was on vacation I wanted a beer as well. Beerhive looked like the perfect solution and overall it satisfied my needs. Beerhive is a small hole in the wall joint with a decent beer selection and your standard bar food options. I don't remember which draft beers I had, but I enjoyed them. Looked like a good bottle selection as well. Went with cheese sticks and chicken tenders for food. Neither was outstanding but it tasted better than typical bar food. The chicken tenders had a pretty unique breading which I liked. The cheese sticks come with a spicy marinara sauce. There was only one waitress/bartender working, she was nice and did a good job of checking back with us. If I lived in Pittsburgh, the Beerhive isn't a place that I would go out of my way for, but if you are visiting the Strip District and are looking for a bite or a drink, its a good place to stop in. read more

So after a 5 hour brunch were we had been sitting in the Splendor of the Union Trust Building I decided to take my cousin who was visiting on a ride about around the city. She mentioned she wanted to have a drink or two but I haven't really been to any bars since I moved here almost two years ago. Plus, I was a little skeptical of course because of Covid concerns. While showing her the Strip District we drove by a few bars and ended up stopping on Saturday at on of the souvenir stores. After shocking we decide to take a quick loop around in the cold. We noticed The Beerhive, smallish bar tucked away on the Strip. It only had 4 People inside so we made our way in. Masks required except at your table. We were informed that we had to order some food to be able to order drinks so we ordered Fries and Queso. It was yummy and the fries were hefty well fried taters lol. We ended up having a few Bahama Mama's (I know I know, it's what she liked to drink and I barely drink any more lol). The drinks were great and the service was even better. The bar staff was warm, jovial and attentive. I plan on going back not just for the drinks but because ALL of the food that came out and went to other tables that trickled on after us looked AMAZING!!!!!! I enjoyed my first Beerhive experience. The beer selection is very good, not great like some make it out to be, but very good none the less (too many overly hoppy beers). The food is pretty good, for bar food. I had the jalepeno and cheddar burger, and it was really good! The bartender must have been new and new to the whole industry. She was very nice and attentive, but didn't really know what she was doing. We ordered an appetizer that came out with our food, not a fan of that happening. All in all a good place that I like and will, without a doubt, go back. read more

Ooooooh I dig this place and the location is fantastic! The strip was dying for an updated, hip place to get your brew on and the Beerhive fits in here perfectly! Met up with some ex coworkers here last night and was so impressed by the interesting list of beers written in pastel chalk above the bar- all of which were around 8% alcohol. Hard day at the office?? You won't remember after an hour or so! The vibe is really hip, kick back and friendly and the gal behind the br is a total sweetheart. We were also super impressed with the appetizers, which take your standard bar fare up a few notches. The lettuce wraps were pretty tasty and the wings.....killer! I am dying to try the soft pretzel appetizer next time. I am a sucker for a good soft pretzel. Only complaint- the ladies room. There is one stall and a swinging door that only covers you midsection when you pee. Thank goodness I am a short gal. The door doesn't lock well so ladies, be prepared. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars as this place is solid and I will be back, often! read more

Been here a few times now for different occasions. My favorite feature is the sampler of 6 craft beers which rotate regularly. Perfect size you or to share. Unfortunately for this round, my partner and I were unlucky and had only had a taste for 1.5 of the 6. [This was not the case last time]. The upstairs is laid out perfectly for group meet-ups and you get this great "loft" feelng of being elevated over the window that looks out onto Penn Avenue. Nothing bad about it, just nothing too compelling other than the branding, they hit that spot on. Beer gets 3 stars. Selection is decent, but for a place touting their craft beer prowess in 2012 it really isn't that impressive. I'll give food 2.5 stars. The menu is appz, wingz, burgerz, sandiwichez, you get the deal. Prices are reasonable to moderately expensive. My jalapeno cheddar burger was ok. Tending towards overcooked even though ordered medium, the patty was thin and chewy. The bun would have been great if not maybe a day past it's prime. The slaw was the best thing on the plate. Service gets 3 stars. The servers were friendly enough and easy to work with, but my food took a solid 20 minutes and I was one of 3 people in the place at 5:00 on a saturday. Sorry for the mediocre review, but I'm just not feelin it at this place. read more
