So this place came recommended by the waiter at our meal last night. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a smile and a cheerful host. We ordered and the food was deliver fast and hot. The eggs were cooked perfectly and displayed better than any eggs I have ever seen. The breakfast potatoes were crispy and delicious. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the sausage was tasty and just had the perfect blend of seasoning. On the the best part the additional carbs. My breakfast was called the big breakfast and it literally could have feed 2 people. The pancakes were larger than a dinner plate and I tried the seasonal pumpkin flavor and I can they were the best pumpkin pancakes I have ever had. They topped them with whipped cream and I did not even need syrup. Finally the name is Big Biscuit. We had to try the biscuits. The biscuits were amazing. They were larger than most biscuits And with the gravy they were just perfect. We had Breakfast, lunch and dinner in Kansas City and all 3 were excellent. My boyfriend is a huge biscuits and gravy fan. He said the best he had ever have them was when he was in the navy. So, being thoughtful I decided to drag him here during the summer I was in Independence visiting. Considering the time difference, it was a huge pain waking up early enough to come here. the boyfriend liked the biscuits, but he said the gravy was just alright. the biscuits were really big and fluffy but the gravy just needs a little bit more work. Now for me, I'm happy with my french toast. Just pour my dang syrup and eat, simple as it gets. Something I recommend to try if you can wake up in time. friendly service. read more

We needed a place to have a family breakfast for over 30 out of town people for a wedding weekend. I spoke with Marquee several times over the phone to make the arrangements, and she was able to set us up in the sun room which was ideal for our crowd. She was patient and kind and made us feel so welcomed. The food was amazing - the hugest portions, and everything came out perfectly, especially for a large crowd. The server was very nice but ultimately I am coming to a restaurant for the food first. I ordered the two eggs with bacon, sub cottage cheese for potatoes and sub tomatoes for toast. The cottage cheese was rotten, yes rotten. After I brought it to the server's attention she quickly brought me some toast. I chased down my rotten cottage cheese with toast and a few gulps of water. Eggs and bacon were just ok. My companion ordered the pumpkin pancake. It was VERY, VERY, dry and lacking pumpkin flavor. Imagine licking a paper towel with cracker crumbs on top. The ultimate disappointment was when the check came. I expected the meal with the rotten cottage cheese to receive a full credit. They did not even provide a credit for the rotten cottage cheese. Really, you serve rotten food and charge me. Sigh. The back of the restaurant has a serious building issue too. Management needs to address quality control, customer service, and facility issues which may be a building code violation. I'm positive serving rotten food is a health code violation. We were here this weekend for brunch and it was packed to the max. We were able to wait in the car for thirty minutes and they called us to come in for our reservation. The biscuits were very good as usual, but the pancakes weren't as fluffy as usual at the other Big Biscuit chains.. I have no big complaints really,accept waiting a little longer then I wanted and wait staff overlooked us at times due to the hectic busy restaurant. read more

The omelette s are HUGE! Definitely bring your appetite or think about sharing with someone else at the table. The food was fresh and delivered fast. The staff is very friendly and if you're a regular you get the royal treatment. Too bad I don't live int he area :) The biscuits and gravy was enough for three people. This is my aunt and mom's Friday morning hangout. Pretty nice place for a family breakfast or lunch. They have table and bar seating. We were seated very quickly and the waitress promptly came over and got our drink order. The food was hot when it came out and the waitress was very attentive to us during the visit. Do you ever drive by a place over and over again and you want to stop in but for some reason you just don't? It's like each time you pass this place and see the sign you kick yourself for somehow always "forgetting" about it, then you promise you'll make a point to stop in next time but the cycle just seems to repeat itself. Well for me The Big Biscuit at 40 and Lee's Summit is that such place. Traveling to Independence and KC for work, I frequently pass this place in the morning on the way in, often after I have already had a quick breakfast at the hotel or a quick bite of garbage gas-station food. Then I make a promise that I'll stop in later for lunch but it just never happens. Well about a month ago when leaving the hotel and on the way to the office, I remembered Big Biscuit and on that morning there was nothing going to get in the way of me getting breakfast here. This decision was just just the beginning what could easily become an obsession if such a thing can exist for a breakfast restaurant. In short... The Big Biscuit is FANTASTIC! Starting with (of course) the Big Biscuits. The Sticky Biscuit is an absolute MUST TRY. This sticky, cinnamon and sugar loaded, generously iced, BIG biscuit truly is (IMO) a BETTER version of a cinnamon roll. Then if you want to load it up, they offer it with raisins, cranberries, and pecans for about a dollar more. Simply put... Stunning. They also offer a BONUT which is a cross between a biscuit and a doughnut. I have not tried this yet, but believe me it is on the list for my next visit. Moving down the menu you are greeted with the the usual breakfast fare, you name it, they have it. Omelets, Eggs, Pancakes, Waffles, Sausage, Hash browns, Bacon, Biscuits and gravy, French toast, Country fried steak, Fried chicken, Chicken and waffles, etc. The list (and combos that mix and match these items) goes on and on. So far between my coworkers and I we have tried eggs (multiple ways), hash browns and diced potatoes, the Sticky biscuit, regular buttered biscuits, Biscuits and gravy, Country fried steak, Sausage, Chicken and waffles, pancakes, and a few of the scram-bowls. Everything that I have tried was nothing short of fantastic, and the staff was equally AMAZING. If I had to pick my go-to breakfast here however, it's got to be the Chicken and waffles with a sticky biscuit for dessert. A little un-traditional for a place that serves hearty american breakfast food on country themed tables and farm style décor, but seriously, it's just so darn good. :) I could easily continue this review with a better explanation of each plate and dish, but this is one of those places that you just have to experience for yourself. I get that the perception is that breakfast food is somewhat easy to prepare and that most if not all breakfast places are the same, but there is just something unique about The Big Biscuit that sets them apart. I highly, highly recommend giving them a chance to fill your belly with what were told is the most important meal of the day. read more

I do enjoy getting come here with my co workers once a month. Normally I'll order their Titanic, the size of the meal worthy of it's name, however I've been on the hunt for places to eat good cornedbeef and hash, and their's is pretty decent. I have lived in the area for years and never eaten here. Was I in for a surprise. I ordered the pancake combo and added a biscuit. I was impressed by the fast service, I was seated fast, got water fast, I've rarely seen a server racing around like this girl. But she was good. When I got my order I nearly gaped at the size of the pancakes!!! 2 that were almost too big to fit on their plate. I ate about 1/4th of one along with the eggs and bacon and took the rest home. I like this place. It was very empty but Monday is a slow day most places. I've driven by other days and there are no spaces in the lot. Excellent place and I will come back for more. read more

There is nothing radical or new about this place. They haven't reimagined breakfast and they don't have any funky twists on the dishes you love. They have everything you'd expect from a breakfast diner and that's it. They just do it better than most. It's fresh, homemade food made with care by people who know what they're doing. It's breakfast the way it should be- delicious, warm, and comforting, but also hearty and nourishing. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars and let me tell you why i reserved that 5th star for now: To be called "The Big Biscuit," the biscuits are pretty unremarkable. They're good, but the place is CALLED "THE BIG BISCUIT." If you're going to toot your own horn like that, the biscuits better be on point. They also really need a better entrance/exit system. It's ALWAYS busy at breakfast time, and getting out when you're ready to leave while so many are crossing that very narrow area waiting to be seated can be frustrating. read more

We tried this place yesterday after church. Let me start off by saying that I never like writing bad reviews. I myself rely on reviews before trying places. Okay, so in saying that... this place does't even deserve the 1 star. I noticed they hadn't received an awarded Top Restaurant sticker like they had in years passed. This may be why... It wasn't the 27 minute wait outside that bothered me. I can appreciate small places and large crowds. The parking lot is a nightmare! Not only can you not turn around, but when you go back to Hwy. 40 to swing back around, it's a one way. So plan on going to the light a couple of times. Also, I know they can't help who frequents their restaurant, but while waiting I had to distract my young daughter from reading the shirt of the woman waiting aside us. Which read, "Men suck because they're M----F----ers", only it read the entire thing. What bothered me is how filthy our table and chairs were when we were finally seated. I had to dust off my chair before sitting. I'm not just being picky... it looked like a toddler had maybe sat there before me and wiped their hands on everything. Still... I'm a Mom, I get it. I cleaned it off. The waitress came over and looked frazzled. No smile, very impatient stance while asking what we would like. I told her we had never been here so I would need to look at the menu. He response: For drinks? I said okay, I'll take coffee. It was rushed and unprofessional. Honestly if I had time to look at the menu I would have ordered lunch and gotten water, but instead chose breakfast based on my rushed coffee request. The food was greasy and cold. We didn't even eat 1/2 of our food and I felt sick for the rest of the day. So for my husband, 11 year old daughter, and myself the check was $40!!! What?! We noticed she charged my daughter food as sides instead of her kids meal. Our waitress never did come back so we couldn't tell her. We bit the bullet and just left cash (plus tip because I'm not a jerk) on the table. We will NEVER go back. I will forever try and talk anyone out of going to this place should they mention their interest in front of me. read more
