Very good food and service. Staff was very pleasant. We had the German special and the saurbraten special. Our son loves the loaded nachos. One of only a few places that gives free soda refills. One of my favorite places for dinner and date night with my husband. I've loved everything I've had there, especially the Polish Sampler. The prices are great, and we love the atmosphere. After 10 asked waiter if we're getting a table soon and he said no. A patron waiting for service said they say they're short handed. I saw 2 waiters, a server and a bus person. The poor waitress was the only one running around - seating, taking orders, bringing orders - cleaning and sanitizing was not as expected - I think they were a little lax with sanitizing and while the waitress did eventually bring out a spray bottle - our table was not cleaned prior to us being seated luckily we had our own sanitizer - with that said - I think more help was needed for the waitress - it was amazing that she was able to still smile while running around like a chicken without a head - still - the food is yummy - just not going back till after a vaccination to be on safe side! We came for something different for a New Year's Eve supper and had the most delightful meal. The food was delicious; the stuffed artichoke was something we usually never have and it was garlicky and tender. Portions were more than generous as my husband and I were able to easily share the artichokes and the broiled seafood platter and walk away on the verge of food comas. We couldn't leave without dessert and the creme brûlée was perfect. But the cherry on top was our server Megan who was infinitely patient with our son and shared her tips on visiting California! I have been to the Birchwood with my family once before, and it was pretty good, but this time, it was stellar! It was fairly empty on a Monday night, and our waitress was attentive and a total sweetheart. I know this is the Birchwood of Polish Town, but the owners are actually Polish and Italian, so you can't go wrong, no matter if you choose Polish or Italian cuisine. I think the Italian is some of the best I've ever had. Their marinara sauce is INCREDIBLE. So flavorful! I got mozzarella sticks which were done perfectly, a house salad with honey mustard dressing (salad was cold and crisp, dressing was pleasantly spicy), and linguine with meatballs and ricotta. I didn't like the meatballs (too much stuff in them) but dang, the linguine was perfectly al dente, and they gave me a scoop of ricotta about as big as my head. Definitely worth the extra $1.95. JSYK, for dessert, they don't just tell you what's on offer -- they bring it out to you and let you look at it yourself. It's this kind of transparency that really personalizes the service and reminds you that you are in a family-owned restaurant and you are helping support small businesses, and you know exactly where your food is coming from. Anyway, they have rainbow cake, so stop reading and go get it already! P.S. - The only criticism I really have is that the fabric cushions on the booths are stained, which is kinda gross. Maybe they should be traded out for vinyl cushions which can be wiped down. However, this would never stop me from eating at the Birchwood again. Very meh. I loved this restaurant under the former owner and have only been for brunch since it re-opened. I really hope this poor experience was strictly a bunch-only issue. The service is the biggest issue, but the food was decent. Came for brunch on New Year's with my family and there was no one to greet us. We were told by one of the waitstaff to seat ourselves, which is odd on a holiday that needed reservations. One of our tables wasn't ready so we awkwardly stood in the middle of the room waiting. Once we sat, they took a drink order. I recommend you ask about the complimentary mimosa/ Bloody Mary because no one said this was included until the end of our meal. The food was good, not great. There was only 1 server per 4 chafing dishes and the line backed up bad and people were getting upset. One of the women working the buffet couldn't handle the volume and kept getting frustrated and overwhelmed. When you're busy and run buffet have more people, it's not rocket science. The flow didn't work well either. The breakfast foods were spot on, but many of the lunch items weren't refilled fast enough, so you'd wind up with scraps of whatever was left. The kielbasa and sauerkraut is a popular and delicious staple, but be prepared to have rubbery pierogies. The chocolate bar was a nice touch, but no one could access it because the buffet line started in front of it. Overall, the need some work, but as long as the food in the main restaurant follows the quality of the former owners, it will have no problem staying a success. read more

My parents hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here for (at the time) my fiancé and I. We had one of the small rooms not in the main restaurant all to our selves. We had the buffet dinner which was a mix of 6 choices of food, all of which was so good. Of course, being in Polishtown how can we not have kielbasa and pierogis as dishes as well!? The service and staff were excellent! It was great to meet the owner as well which in a lot of places you might not see or interact with but she took care of the dinner that night for us. I eat dinner with my family in the restaurant often and never disappointed even attended business meetings there and enjoyed drinks with friends at their bar. This weekend was my first time experiencing their catering hall and I must say WOW! The venue for my daughter's sweet 16 was so spectacular that everyone of my guests has been calling saying it was like being at a wedding and the best one ever. Service was excellent, food was over the top, owners awesome ...all a definite 5 star. The hall was so spectacularly beautiful. I will be hosting all my events there in the future. AMAZING! PERFECT! My wife and I had a late lunch. We both had the Polish Reuben. You have many sides to choose. We started with an appetizer. We had the Pierogis with sautéed onions. The food was excellent. You did not have to wait for the wait staff to come to the table. Very polite. We will come here again for another meal. The restaurant area is small. They do have a catering area. I love Polish food and have been meaning to come here for a while. I had the combo dinner platter and really enjoyed everything! The potato pancakes tied with the pirogi for my favorite element of the combo but the golumki and kielbasa were great too. You also get a side, soup, spinach, and sauerkraut! I was dying to try the polish food and was disappointed that the menu didn't offer more options for combining polish food. I had the combination plate of perogies (2) cabbage rolls(1) keilbassa (1 small piece) and it also included soup or salad, a side and potato pancakes. It was a lot of food but I would have much rather just had more of perogies, cabbage rolls (which were the BEST) and kielbasa instead of all the other stuff which just felt like filler. Service was just ok, not really friendly, more like tolerant with a slight glance of annoyance from the bartender/hostess upon walking in. Had the feel of a place with a lot of regulars including the guys sitting at the bar who ogle you while you are waiting for a table. I felt like I was intruding.
