    $1 oysters
    Samantha L.

My go to spot for $1 oysters on Monday! Despite only being $1, the oysters are high quality and delicious. We also got the Caesar salad (with anchovies) as well as the black marlin burger, both of which were delicious as well. The restaurant also has two outdoor patios, both of which are completely covered. Service can sometimes be a little bit slow, but otherwise this is a great spot to come for a great meal, especially on Mondays.

Shrimp and Scallops over Risotto. Yum!

Hi! Last night I went to The Black Marlin restaurant in Tustin for a special occasion dinner. I have to confess, it was my first time going, and I was not disappointed! It was fairly crowded, but it was a Friday night. They only take reservations for parties of eight or more. But, fortunately we were seated without any wait. We asked for, and received, a very nice table on the back patio. Our sever was excellent! It took him very little time to assess it was a special occasion and he gave us plenty of space while still being very attentive. They have a nice wine list and a decent selection of wine by the glass. We started by splitting the crab cake appetizer. Two pieces with a nice sauce. A little on the small size but very tasty and not loaded with filler. I had the jumbo Shrimp and Scallops over risotto special. It was incredible. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the Shrimp done just right. Sandy had the Sea Bass. I had a taste and it was quite good! We finished by splitting the Whiskey Crème Brûlée Bread Pudding! Only one word. Yum! We had a wonderful time here. Great food. Great service. A quaint little restaurant with a nice patio. Who could ask for anything more? Jim

I wanted to leave a brief review since I stopped here for about 15 minutes in Old Town Tustin. I talked to the hostess and the guy at the bar and checked out the menu too. I found out that this place has been around since the very early 1900's and was called the Tustin Garage back then. They have had several restaurants lease out this building and finally it has become the Black Marlin I think now for 5 years. They still keep the original name on the building. It's quite historical so I was interested. The menu seems great and I plan to go back for lunch and either try the clam chowder, a salad, fish and chips, or perhaps a burger. It looks great. Some of the items are pricey, but the place looks really cool. To be continued:)

Good food and service was fantastic. Bree was our server and offered numerous helpful suggestions and tips during our dining experience. Fishing and ocean themes throughout the establishment make it cozy and kitschy.

It's a much better experience compared to last... All the food was good, especially the croissant beignets... There were only a few customers on Saturday 2:00pm, it is quiet and the servers could be a lot more attentive. Oh, the clam chowder is one of the best I've ever have too!

Our waitress was awesome. It was a busy Friday night and she was so personable and attentive. What was ordered: 1) Cups of Clam Chowder Soup (yes, plural... haha) 2) Chilean Sea Bass 3) Center Cut Salmon Filet 4) Ahi 5) Pesto Shrimp Pasta 6) Garlic Cheese Bread The food was amazing. Inside was warm and cozy. Very noisy and loud but that's just a good sign everyone was enjoying themselves. The hostess was great. The staff overall just seemed amazing. Would recommend. : )

I used to live in Tustin and would go here regularly. I loved the Monday $1 oysters and bring your own bottle they offered. Was still offered on the website when I went but when I arrived they said it's no longer offered. Today went in because on THEIR website is says brunch is offered Saturday and Sunday and when I arrived they said it only Sundays. I was asked if it's from their direct website, which it was. We no longer live close so checked this menu weeks ago so to stop but and find out it's false advertising AGAIN is insane. It's about a 30 minute drive for us and was told but multiple people we should report this

Old town Tustin is such a gem, a real small town feel where time just goes slows down. Now bring in Black Marlin, right in the heart of all of this. A simple, yet complex American menu with a flair of seafood and grill. I've have been several times and highly recommend going for breakfast. This is the only place I have ever had a crab and shrimp eggs benedict, and let me say HAVE MERCY. This tops them all. Saturday and Sunday Brunch is offered with bottomless champagne, $23 and worth every cent. If you choose time at the bar, I recommend a walk across the street at the gardens at Armstrong. A nice stroll down El Camino Real any direction will bring you peace of mind, you will easily forget you are in busy Orange County. Great servers will take care of you with a smile, find a seat and enjoy all the enjoyment Black Marlin has to offer. I can't thank them enough for taking care of us every trip there, and treating us like family.

    Website stating closure.

Website recently states that they are permanently closed, very sad to hear. They were the best seafood restaurant in Orange County, per the OC Register.

Came here with some gfs for their happy hour Mondays which include $1 oysters and no corkage fee to bring your own bottle of wine. This place is super cute! There's a huge outdoor patio where they hosts live music for Sunday brunch. We ordered 2 dozen oysters which were very fresh! They had the usual dressings of lemon, vinegar, cocktail sauce and Tabasco sauce. We also ordered their chili, lobster Mac n cheese and shrimp over mashed potatoes. We were very pleased with our food! We have added this spot to our happy hour rotation of restaurants. We will be back soon!

I love brunch. I love seafood. Came to Yelp and found the Black Marlin. They do not take reservations so we just made our way over. My husband loves me so he will take me to brunch as long as there are other options besides breakfast items. Our server was on it. She was friendly, quick, and personable. I'm extra AF.... So I want everything. I ordered the calm chowder. It was really good. My husband doesn't like soups but, I think he ate most of my cup of soup. Shrimp cocktail - shrimp tasted fresh. Cooked perfectly. Cocktail sauce has a good kick with the horseradish. Blue point oysters - my husband doesn't like oysters. More for me! It was delicious. Walk the plank Benedict - hollandaise was good. Always important. The seafood on it was yummy. I did ask for well done hash browns but, I didn't get it that way. It's okay. I still ate it. My husband got the fish and chips - perfectly battered and cooked. The tartar was also really good. Dip the fries in it. Thank me later. Will we be back? Yes. We are coming back on Father's Day with my in laws!

Chelan Seabass Fresh Chilean Sea Bass

I went there for my birthday, for starters, we shared a small bowl of clam chowder that was delicious. The clams were so tender, and the soup was so creamy. My date orderedordered the Chelan Sea bass with a side salad. I ordered the wedge salad and the halibut with yellow squash, zucchini, and red potato. For drinks, we had Cadillac margaritas with the shadow grammar on the side really good The service is exceptional, very attentive. The ambience was nice and welcoming. We will definitely go there again. Everything was so fresh and delicious.

    Ciopinno aftermath
    Chris A.

I won't repeat what I've said previously. The purpose of this review is to review a particular dish, namely the Ciopinno. If you don't already know, Ciopinno is an Italian fisherman's stew filled with a variety of seafood in a tomato based broth. It's typically served with grilled bread, usually grilled garlic cheese bread. I'm a fiend for a good Ciopinno. The best I've ever had is the Ciopinno at Taddich Grill in San Francisco. How does the Marlin's version measure up? The Marlin's version is quite good, and I would order it again, but it doesn't quite measure up to the Taddich Grill version. If I were the chef, I would make the following changes: Ditch the Calamari. The Marlin does a great Calamari that's fried and served with dipping sauces. We order it often as an appetizer. Tossed into the Ciopinno unfried, it's more or less flavorless chewy texture. I'd substitute that with a little more white fish. Am I being a little nit picky? Yes. Notwithstanding the nits in this review, I still maintain the Marlin has the best seafood in Orange County with an upscale but not fussy atmosphere. It's a great place worthy of your attention. Cheers!

While I understand TBotB is it's own thing separate from Stowaway, I wish you could get some of the drinks from there. Most of the cocktails we had were good (but I'm not sure I'd order them again), but the menu had a number of drinks I won't order, they're just not my style. We missed being able to get some of our favorites from Stowaway. We ended up getting a table at Stowaway after our time was up in TBotB anyway because we were having a good time so that was fun. All in all, I think next time we'll stick with Stowaway and sitting at the bar. At least we can check TBotB off our list. It's worth checking out for sure, but for me I enjoy the more classic tiki cocktails. It's fun to venture off the beaten path once in a while.

If you are going to sample, pour everyone a small taste! How wasteful in every way - the straws, the remains of the drink, etc. (a new straw was used for each "sampling"). Once e we finished this process, they wanted everyone's drink order before you could go back to the table. Not everyone knew what they wanted - but that wasn't allowed. I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. I was pretty disappointed because I had used the reservation link they posted on their Instagram Story and planned my schedule around coming here specifically for the afternoon tea experience. As for the restaurant itself, the food is decent, but in my opinion, it doesn't stand out as much compared to some of the other Kei Concepts restaurants. As someone who is Chinese and grew up eating both Chinese and Vietnamese food, I personally think Kei Concepts really excels when it comes to Vietnamese flavors. Their Chinese dishes aren't bad by any means, but considering the prices, I would probably go elsewhere if I were specifically craving fried rice, noodles, or dim sum. Customer service can vary, but I did appreciate that the manager came over personally to apologize and explain that they unfortunately didn't have any availability for afternoon tea. The reservation mix-up wasn't necessarily their fault, but I appreciated that he took the time to speak with us. The space itself is absolutely beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I especially love the layout with the bar right in the heart of the restaurant--it really makes the space stand out. I'd still love to come back and actually experience their afternoon tea! Just make sure you're booking through the correct afternoon tea reservation link so you don't make the same mistake I did. Parking: Free and plentiful.

Strong Water isn't just a place to grab a drink, it is an entire experience from the moment you…read morewalk through the door. We were escorted inside and our hostess immediately started introducing us to the lore of the place: a capsized ship with the space decorated using pieces recovered from the wreckage. The room is VERY dimly lit, and we actually stood near the entrance for a moment while our eyes adjusted, but honestly that just added to the atmosphere. On the way to our reservation in the Captain's Quarters, our hostess gave us a little tour of the main room and even pointed out the bathrooms for later. Once we sat down, we met our bartender, Drew, who was fantastic. He walked us through the different menus, explained the food and cocktails, and really added to the experience throughout the night. I'm normally a whiskey drinker, so I started with the Southeast Spice Trade while my girlfriend ordered the Pineapple Whipped Colada. Both were delicious, but half the fun was watching Drew make them. You could really see the amount of care that went into the craft and presentation of every drink. For food, we ordered the chicken katsu and ahi poke nachos. I was especially excited when the nachos arrived and I realized they were made with wonton chips. I'm a sucker for wonton chips, so those were an immediate win. We obviously couldn't stop at one round of drinks, so next came the Tarobi Colada and Zombie King. Drew told us a little about the history of the Zombie King and gave us a lesson on rum, so I had to try it, plus it came in one of the coolest mugs I've ever seen. The Zombie King was easily my favorite drink of the night. The flavor was fantastic from beginning to end and dangerously smooth. I didn't even realize how much it had hit me until I stood up. Even leaving was part of the experience. We finally checked out the bathroom and the door has what feels like TEN different locks on it. It genuinely felt like I was locking myself inside the bathroom of an old pirate ship. Between the storytelling, incredible atmosphere, Captain's Quarters, food, cocktails, and especially the service from Drew, this was such a memorable night. Strong Water completely commits to its theme without sacrificing the quality of the drinks. Absolutely an experience worth having, and we can't wait to come back.

We have returned to Strong Water several times in recent months, so it's time for an update. We…read morefirst returned in early June since they introduced some new cocktails and food to the menu. The other visits were just because this is by far our number one place. Recently added cocktails: Buzzin' Jungle Bird (Jamaican gold rum, coffee infused campari, dark rum, pineapple, lime, hemp orgeat, cane, Angostura bitters). This is a great spin on a jungle bird, with some complexity and coffee flavor. I'm usually not a big fan of coffee, but it is at a good level. Chi Chi (Whey vodka, pineapple, lime, date, honey, coconut, salt). This has a great creamy texture which I believe comes from the dairy component of the whey vodka. It is well balanced with some sweetness, and I could taste the coconut and date flavors. Lapu Lapu (Asian rum, Jamaican rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, demerara). It is juicy, well balanced, and served with a flaming sugar cube on top. This is the cocktail they chose to serve at their booth at Tiki Oasis recently which says a lot, try it! Thai Me Down (Barbados rum, coconut liqueur, papaya, lemon, demerara, Thai basil). It is served old-fashioned style, and was light and perfectly balanced. Those Thai inspired flavors were all noticeable. Demerara Dry Float. They added and took this one off the menu as of now. It was a balanced light citrusy drink which was served with a delicious sidecar of Hamilton 151 rum infused with banana chips. I sipped half of that and mixed the rest into the cocktail. It was served with a beautiful ice shell. I'm guessing it was too labor intensive, and took up a lot of space in their freezers. Recently added food: Ahi Poke Nachos (marinated ahi tuna, masago, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, furikake, green onion). This is such a tasty starter with so many textures and flavors. I love that the nachos are wontons too, and not just chips. Crab & Cream cheese wontons. Nice crisp wontons with a good amount of crab and cream cheese inside. The chili sauce and spicy mayo adds another layer of flavor, and there is a slice of jalapeno on top for a little heat. Pan-Seared Scallops. This was an excellent lighter entrée. The four scallops are cooked perfectly, and even have a little dollop of caviar on top. I liked the mix of veggies and really liked the bed of potato puree underneath. Steak & Eggs (8oz hanger steak, crying tiger glaze, Nam Jim Jaew sauce, sunny eggs, rice). I normally wouldn't try steak & eggs for dinner, but I can't resist a good hanger steak. It was cooked a perfect medium rare and I appreciate that it was pre-sliced. The crying tiger glaze and sauce were so flavorful. There's plenty of rice to soak up any left egg yolk or sauce. Recently added desserts: Dubai Chocolate Lava Cake. This was excellent, but it's definitely sweet and rich. Save some room if you plan on ordering this. Ube Flan Cake. I'm usually not a fan of flan, but I have to try anything with ube and this was good. The cake had nice ube flavor, and I liked that the flan was a little firm since the looser custardy/gelatinous texture is not for me. This is definitely a lighter dessert than the lava cake. It's not a new drink, but I also had the Naval Grog for the first time. (Lost Voyage rum, overproof white rum, allspice dram, lime, grapefruit, demerara, honey). It is boozy with nice spice notes. Other repeat cocktails enjoyed were Tales from the Black Lagoon (my favorite), Missionary's Downfall, Agave Parrot, Singapore Sling, and Serpents Grasp all of which are excellent. Their cocktails, food, ambiance, and service are always top notch. Thank you Ying, Erica, Greg, Jordan, Joey, Iris, Karen, Kyle, Joy, and John for your wonderful hospitality during our visits. We will return again soon!
