The night started out great but towards 1:15am, the female and the short and fat male bartender started acting different, i do not know it is because they got drunk, they did not know their own menu, the female bartender and the male bartender started acting belligerent and saying my Rye-PA is actually $21 because you are paying for a shot and IPA separately but their menu showed the boilmaker had its own price...after i called out they are charging me a beer and shot separately instead of their menu price, they accused me being drunk and ignorant...soooo, order before these idiots get drunk...i ordered the same drink three times and its all different prices if you look at my charges...great ambience, two drunk employees that ruined the night

    Whiskey Sour....sooooo good...

Firstly, I enjoy how the entry is very speakeasy vibes; where you try to find it and you start to feel unsure if this is the entry nicely done. The ambiance of the wooden tables and the total feel was cozy and welcoming. Once seated at the bar, we were greeted immediately by a very awesome Mixologist/Bartender! Amazing banter A+++++ Service The drinks : My Whiskey Sour was delicious, it had the perfect balance of sweet to sour notes. We also had the old fashion yes. May I have another, soo good. And, this place has a couple games to play and on some nights entertainment, which is pretty cool but on this night I only partake playing some pool. Overall, the drinks were crafted wonderfully, and I would recommend this lovely joint!

I neither drink nor am I a regular at bars/clubs but this past Saturday, I decided to check 4 establishments in Downtown Long Beach, The Blind Donkey being one of them. Let's start off by the basics: Great bouncer with a cool attitude. Dude checked my ID, patted me for guns, made small talk, then let me go in. 10/10 customer service (not even kidding, dude was professional and polite). They have a pool table, some darts, the layout is very interesting and the drinks (I had a coke) were reasonably priced, to the point where I tipped the bartender 100% of the bill, lol (not kidding about that one either, cheap soda deserves a big tip). To be able to borrow the darts for the dart boards, you must surrender your ID but the darts themselves are a lot of fun, and the patrons that frequent this place are friendly and approachable, so that makes it even more fun. My friend and I didn't try the pool tables but they seemed fun too. All in all, a great place if you're a local and want to socialize a bit on a random weekend.

Let me start with, we are in town just for the night and because of this bar and Leo- we will be coming back to Long Beach. Leo and the other female bartender were both friendly and talkative. The drinks perfect. The drink menu was the perfect mix of old fashion type drinks and new original drinks. Fits the speakeasy vibe perfectly. We are already planning a to back to Long Beach to stay for awhile.

I'm a regular at blind donkey and it's always a favorite. There is a new bartender named Kale who was great energy! She even sang at karaoke after! If you want a great time with friendly faces this the place to be! Not to mention it's literally underground with a vintage Photo Booth, SO COOL!

Just a mom who loves to sing Karaoke when her son is at his dad's

Is there a photo booth in here if so are we allowed to just go in to take pictures and are under 21?

I don't recall seeing a Photo Booth. But I can definitely say I doubt anyone under 21 is allowed in. There was a rather grumpy bouncer at the front door/top of the stairs militantly checking ID's for EVERYONE.

Fast forward to this past weekend for the USA World Cup game. We originally were planning on attending the street party that was happening on Pine Ave in downtown for the game. But when we arrived, there was a massive line just to get in. Just from the looks of it, the line didn't seemed to move and the game was starting. That's how we ended up here. The bar is just off the promenade in downtown. Clearly, there was no way we're waiting in the line for the street party. Instead, we remembered and seen this place. They too were showing the game so we walked in. There was a good amount of people on the patio area which they also had a television. Inside was a bit more mellow but it was picking up. With this bar, we got to sit down and enjoy the game with a nice cold beer. Happy hour was going on so they were having specials on drinks. Within minutes, it was starting to get packed as everyone was doing the same thing. Instead of waiting in line and the game was starting, this place was a better option. A nice open vibe bar. Plenty of seating inside as well as the outside patio which was pretty big as well. The ladies behind the bar were amazing. Busy as they were trying to take care of everything and everyone. Drink specials did sound nice but we opted for the happy hour beer. Bar area was quite roomy with communal tables as well a private table. Bar seating was great as the television was right in-front of you. The tufted leather seats, leather high top seats give it that cigar lounge. A cool spot right in the heart of downtown Long Beach. They didn't serve food but was informed that hat someone was serving classic hot dog and burger out front. Having walked in and enjoying this place, it was worth it. Also one of the bartender that worked at another place we've been to also worked here. The whole place was nice and greatly enjoyed. Will be back for sure.

So this is a review that's been a *long* time coming (I've just been chronically overwhelmed for an…read moreequally long time.) I haven't been here often, but I *was* here right around when they opened, wherein I determined that the food ranged from quality but a bit overpriced, to just overpriced, a feeling I would still hold, generally speaking. Great vibe, solid service, but maybe a little pretentiously priced (and/or it's just stupid expensive to run a restaurant in this area, granted.) And with *super* pretentiously-priced cocktails, for how relatively simple they mostly are (if I'm gonna spend $18+ plus tip on a drink, I expect Baby Gee-level cocktails.) They also had an impressive wall of craft beer on tap, but also a bit pricey, especially compared to places not on 2nd street, so there was never a particular *draw*. But then I never actually finished reviewing it, because I'm super behind. Anyway, then also not particularly recently, they launched a happy hour, which at the time, especially for this particular part of Long Beach, was pretty stupidly good, with $5 decent sized smashburgers (6 with cheese, 10 with cheese and also fries), as well as $5 craft beer, pretty much all of them, including the fancy, exciting stuff (exciting if you're a nerd like me, the barrel aged stuff, for instance). They also had one specific half hour at the time, which I'd like to immortalize as a super fun idea, where one specific cheap but craft beer was some stupid price, I think like a dollar, but since they had a whole wall of rotating craft beer, a *different* specific cheap craft beer any given day. That's not relevant at all to my current review, but it was fun. Anyway, I still didn't write a review like a year ago when I took advantage of that happy hour, though I did take advantage of it a solid couple of times. Skip forward again to just a few weeks ago, I happened to be attending an event in the general area again, an event that was going to involve more alcohol than food and for which having a happy-hour-timed dinner in the area was going to be useful, so I figured I'd check out whether the happy hour was still there, and it was. At least as of a few weeks ago, the happy hour (3-6 weekdays) was still a thing, and it had gone up a whopping 55 cents per item. Ends up being effectively ~$17 plus tip for a quality smashburger, quality fries and a craft beer, though they didn't have as *many* of the fancy (barrel-aged or equivalent) stuff as they had the first time, they did still have some, and it was still $5.55 for any beer on draft they had. So happy hour wise, that's a pretty good price for this part of the country, I'd say. Obviously only since the burgers and fries *are* also absolutely quality burgers and fries. Not quite as wonderful as my gold standard smashburger at The Stache, perhaps, but still a great smashburger. My opinion on spending almost 20 bucks for what is effectively still just an old fashioned, hasn't changed, though. :p

Honestly thought it was the bar that we came inside. First impression, why did we need reservations.... Since we didn't know the hidden entrance. Well, it's a cool concept once we entered. There's a dress code so be advised. What I found out was the entrance of the speakeasy was through a phone booth that next to the pool table of Roxanne's bar. Once reservations is made, you'll received an email with a password to enter. Enter phone booth and to connect to the inside and they'll open the door for you. We had the first reservations I believe they opened at 7pm. We were the first group to arrive. As it was my first time, we had ordered bar food and were waiting for it inside the main bar. So half an hour was used from our time limit. The speakeasy, dark and moody but perfect for the place. Special crafted cocktails by the bartenders which were great. They also have food as well, found out later. We did try the meat pie, which it was just ok. Basically an empanadas, the pickle veggies accompanied it was my favorite. It was good but nothing major to rave about. The drinks were quite nice and tasty. What they offered on the menu did have a load of good choices. Tables scattered throughout as well as bar seating. There's a piano which maybe used for live music. Overall, the moody speakeasy vibe was great. Friendly staff and bartender made some great drinks. What we had to snack on, the meat pie was just ok. For starters, we got the Parker House Rolls, which comes with truffle butter, local citrus honey, and grana padano cheese. These rolls were so fluffy and flavorful. We also ordered the hummus, which was so rich and creamy, and the oysters from the raw bar. For the main, we ordered the Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop, Fish & Chips, and the Wedge salad to share. And let me tell you, that everything was so good. The Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop came with a whole show, where staff would bring out the dish in a smoke-infused glass dome and open the dome when presented on the table so we can smell and see all the smoke. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it tasted just as beautifully. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the rainbow swiss chard, cheddar grits, candied pecans, and avocado honey helped balance out all the juiciness from the meat. They use haddock fillet for the Fish & Chips, which was fried to perfection. The Wedge Salad is what actually knocked my socks off! This was one of the best wedge salads that I've ever had. It had your key ingredients: iceberg, buttermilk dressing, red onion, crumbled egg, tomato, bacon gastrique, blue cheese, dill, chives - but something about this salad was different! It was so refreshing, flavorful--just everything you want in a dish. We ended the dining experience with their Peach Cobbler Hand Pie, which came with streusel, pistachio crumble, salted caramel, and vanilla ice cream. Can't wait to go back when I'm in the area!
