Had lunch here on the summer solstice after a lovely morning at the beach. The vibes are immaculate. Well not really, the place itself is kind of janky, doesn't look like anything has been repaired there for the last 20 years. But they have an outdoor dining area and when you're that close to the ocean, I guess you don't have to try at much else. The service was fast and friendly, the food was deep fried. Kind of hard to go wrong. It's definitely price gouge-y though. Super simple and cheap food, but all marked up because of where you are. To their credit though, they could have price gouged even more and they didn't, so at least there's that. I'd go back, but I'd probably try to see if someone else wanted to pay for me. read more

It's ok I had the fried oysters they were ok . My wife had the clam chowder. Still hands down spuds had the best clam chowder around nothing better . Not much flavor yo the chowder. The only reason I gave 3 stars the people are super nice clean cool place to eat . Parking is great they have their own lot . You can eat outside or inside like I said it's a fun stopping area to eat at food ok . But I hate to say it better off driving a little further and hit spuds . But it was a great day read more

Went here because of the quirky decoration outside. It's a small restaurant at the corner of the street with some parking spot. We ordered: fish & chips, fish tacos & hot chocolate. - Fish & chips: good. fish coating was crispy and the fish wasn't overcooked. The chips were crispy. - Fish tacos: delicious! Fish were crispy & perfectly cooked. The salsa sauce on top of the fish was delicious. - Hot chocolate: it's a Nestle hot chocolate mix - so nothing fancy about it. Been hearing raves about this place and I'm hardly in thr Northbay or Bodega Bay. But everyone swears this place is " a must". It was my first time here. Limited parking and limited seating. Got there close to 130pm and there was still a line of about 10 people in the cold weather. Bbq oysters- I like bbq and love oysters but sadly this combo does not work for me. I'd probably order oysters with no bbq sauce. Fish and chips- crispy, fresh and hot Philly sandwich- this was amazingly the best thing I ate here! Nice hot sandwich with well portions of meat and cheese and flavors. It was a good first time and feel I need to give it another try. Broke our diet plan for the first time in 1.5 years to give this place a try based on a stellar recommendation from a colleague. Was told that The Boat House has the best and freshest fish and chips in the north bay and we HAVE to try them out of in the area. So... we splurged and we're glad we did. If you're gonna have a cheat day it better be worth it and the food here absolutely was! - Hubs ordered the fish and chips (held the chips- we weren't gonna splurge THAT much) He believes it was fresh cod and it met every expectation he had. - I'm not a fish fan but they had chicken tenders off menu. They were made fresh to order and were perfectly seasoned and delicious! - We ordered a side of jalapeño poppers to share- the jalapeños were mild and sweet, filled with cream cheese, battered in Panko and fried perfectly. I'd say this is a must stop for anyones list when they drive through bodega bay. A few things to note for your visit: -Seating is very limited (4-6 tables outside and 3/4 inside) - Lines come in waves but can be long. Food is also cooked fresh to order so plan accordingly for a wait time - parking is very limited and was an issue for us while there as well. I'd consider finding a place down the way and walking over. -I'd come early and beat the peak lunch rush. Google shows they open at noon but they actually open at 11:30 read more

I finally gotten around to reviewing this wonderful restaurant. I've been coming here for years because my daughter played soccer with the owners daughter for a few years so I would go to patronize the restaurant. There are a lot of fish and chips places in Bodega Bay and I've tried all of them. The Boathouse puts them all under the water(no pun intended). The fish is always fresh, not greasy and their tartar sauce is out of this world. A bonus if you are a deep sea fishing person, you can hire out into their vessels to fish yourself That's exemplary service for not only the best fish and chips but a fishing trip bonus if you are into that. I had lunch here several years ago and just wasn't impressed. Gave it another go today and it was awesome! We had the fish and chips and the clam chowder bread bowl. I give the fish and chips 5 stars. Perfectly cooked, moist and flaky fish. Fresh hot fries. Delish! I thought I knew where my favorite fish and chips were in Bodega Bay until today. The clam chowder was good and the veggies were fresh. It was enjoyable, for sure, but won't be my go to. Hubby really enjoyed the creaminess of the chowder and the bowl itself. An accidental find, next to the Kite and Candy store we stopped for, with a shared parking lot. An unprepossessing exterior with a few tables, and the best fish and chips we've had since a chance discovery of an award winning food truck in Tasmania. This is a great local place and a must if you are visiting Bodega Bay! It was recommended to us by a friend who grew up near by. There is very limited seating so I'd suggest coming at an odd time if you can. The staff and service was great, they are super sweet and happy to see you! They have a great local beer selection to complement their fish and chips. The serving sizes are large so I'd recommend sharing meals for sure. The fish and chips is light and fresh. The crab cake sandwich had great flavor, was uniquely thin but great. Oddly enough the burger was great too! Fun little place to stop. read more

Fish (rock cod) is stinky and ugh. Fries are meh. Fish is Heavily breaded and greasy. My friend loves this place so we went. But my friend likes heavy breading and grease & admits it. Amazing Fish and Chips! We were pleasantly surprised! We stopped to grab to eat. No reservations, just stop and have lunch. This little diner had one server and one cook. The place was clean and decorated with fishing items. Food was served fast, hot and fresh! We received 4 delicious fish, fried to perfection! Crispy fries with sauces for fries and fish. Place seems to be family owned which is always a bonus. They have seafood and other fast food items like cheeseburgers and some beverages. We ordered the fish and chips which was perfectly battered and crunchy. I ordered the bbq oysters served fresh and hot, but 4 oysters for $12.50 was little on the pricey end. Since were already full, we just got small snacks. Honestly we ate before this, but we HAD to stop by for the bbq oysters. Every time we are in town, it's mandatory to make a trip here. We've been here a few times and will probably make it a tradition. Besides being burnt by the sun from sitting in the patio, we still enjoyed it. The service here is always good. Saw good reviews about the boat house and stopped by here on our road trip down Highway1. They did not disappoint! Staff were attentive and ordering was fast. Their calamari and grilled oysters were the best! Who would have known grilling oysters with ketchup would taste divine? The crab cake sandwich was juicy and tasty. Everything is just cooked differently here. The people are nice but the food isn't as good as the other places around here. The chowder looked like it was rushed and thin. The battered fish and chips were soggy. The grilled oysters were a little burnt and not as fresh. It's a nice place when all the other restaurants are closed. The young kid taking our order was super friendly and helpful--great customer service. I went with the fish and chips... and man, I was impressed. Crispy, flavorful, and hit the spot. But here's the wild part--they had RC Cola Zero Sugar. I haven't had RC Cola in forever, let alone a zero sugar version. You already know I had to grab one. Where has this been all my life? It was legit good. Food came out quick, no long wait, which is always a win when you've got a big group. Overall, solid food, good prices, and a laid-back vibe. Definitely recommend The Boat House if you're looking for a good bite that won't break the bank. They've also got beers and other canned alcoholic drinks if that's your thing. While the best chowder in Bodega Bay is always up for debate, their fish & chips is top notch. And my sister introduced me to their Clam Strips which is so good and unique. But what I usually end up getting is their fish tacos because the fish has a great batter and everything on it works together, even the Pace Picante salsa! Excellent, it all is very good. Seating is the very small great cool seating outside with wooden tables and heaters and is so cool to sit out there. And then there is this indoor seating with with fish netting and actual stuffed shark heads and fish and is totally cool and you really get into the fishing thing. I've lived around the area for years but this was my first trip here at the recommendation of a co worker. He loved the fish and chips and so that's what we got. Really really, good. Didn't find them greasy at all, everyone seemed nice enough. It is just a little fish shack but the food is so good, it's definitely worth stopping for the food. read more

Pretty sure we got food poisoning. The servers rarely come by or are just no where to be found. Well, my concerns went out the door upon having an evening drink at the bar and then dinner. It was so good that I decided we should come for dinner the following night as well. It is good to make a reservation. The restaurant is rustic, "woodsy" and very casually comfortable. The wait staff is awesome. They are friendly, professional and very attentive. Both nights was a delight, and we enjoyed chatting and getting to know them. The first night I had the Pt Reyes oysters. They were fantastic. Firm, succulent and delicious; bathed in a light mignonette and tarragon. Perfect! For my main course I had the Summer Vegetable Pasta. It was equally delicious. The pasta was fresh, al dente and bite size. All of the accompaniments, including artichoke pieces, were spot on and blended perfectly for an excellent meal. I was quite satisfied. The next evening I started with the Smoked Rock Cod Rillettes which came on two crostini and made similar to a tuna fish spread. Quite tasty this local fish was a great way to start the meal. After I chose to have the Pork Tenderloin. It was so tasty, moist and delicious. I had it medium rare and that was just right for me. The sauce with it was a great addition, plus the pickled apple, greens and bacon. YUM! Both truly delicious, enjoyable meals. Having a glass of wine for both dinners was just right and they have a nice selection. As for the bar the mixologist bartender was right on his game. I had a Manhattan on the rocks. It was so smooth and just the right mix. Ed had a Bourbon Sour and was quite content. I would gladly eat here again. It is a bit pricey but the value was definitely there.

Now that we're on the Sonoma coast quite often I wasn't quite ready for a sit down, so I decided to take the chowder to go. According to the hostess, the bar staff would take my to go order. So I probably sat at the bar for I want to think about five minutes before I was even acknowledged that's very disappointing. it really gives you a dismissive feeling when other guests are being intended. I'm not talking about a large group 4 down to two people, and I honestly felt ignored. Any way I waited patiently and was finally asked if I could be helped so I said yeah I wanna place it to go order. I'm kind of driving down the road and I just wanna take it to go. That was no problem. I wandered around the property,which is really lovely while I waited for my chowder. My receipt came to approximately $37 for my to go order of only two servings of chowder. I served it that evening, along with a salad and some filet mignon in the comfort of our own accommodations. While the flavor was whatever I remembered, it was a great flavor. It's rich and it's definitely comfort food. However, the potatoes were all raw basically uncooked not at all what I would expect for a seafood chowder. While the potatoes should be not mushy, these were just nearly raw. After the anticipation of looking forward to enjoying and sharing this dish, I feel pretty disappointed.
