This boiling crab is definitely a hit or miss. Of the last 5 times I have been here, only twice has it been the way I remember boiling crab has tasted over the last 10 years. This passed Sunday batch was great though for my shrimp with the hole Shebang. For those who can't handle spicy or can tolerate very little, I recommend getting the whole Shabang with non-spicy as the spice level can be deceiving to some. For those who are new, the shrimp is always a must. If you have a party of 2+, I would recommend at least a pound and one side. Tasty tip - throw your basket item into the sauce. I am sucker for the chicken tenders with the sauce more than I am with the shrimp and the sauce. The Burbank location can get packed and can easily have an hour or 2 wait during Dinner time. For some reason I feel that the place gets a little took packed with table and chair placement as surrounding tables kept hitting my party and I. Casual pleasant dining. We ordered crab, shrimp, gumbo and oysters. The oysters and shrimp were good. The gumbo felt like a watery seasoned soup. The roux definitely lacked the complexity of a proper gumbo cooked for hours.The crab was good but in a sea of exceptional crab restaurants-that's not saying much. Let's start by saying that I'm a seafood lover. I'm sure many of you who live in LA know of this place because every time I mention seafood, people from LA will mention The Boiling Crab. I'm from the East Coast so this is my first time here and I will tell you that it will definitely won't be my last. I came with a group of ten friends. I'll try my best to recall what everyone ordered but I was the only one that ordered the lobster. From the order of ten, it was as follows: 1 order of Shebang shrimp with corn and potato 1 order of hot wings 1 order of onion rings Lobster with corn and potato 1 order of Shebang shrimp 1 order of shabang shrimp with corn 1 order of Shabang crawfish 1 order of Shabang mussels 1 order of rice with shabang sauce 1 basket of cajun fries I think everyone else ordered shabang shrimp. I didn't try the hot wings or fries but I did get to try the rice with shabang sauce, the shabang shrimp, mussels and fries. Boy, was it flavorful. I still would rather eat it plain but the sauce was awesome. The whole lobster was $36 pretty filling but I did have 4 pieces of potatoes and 2 pieces of corn. It was interesting that they lay out a large sheet of paper on the long table and give you bibs and plastic gloves to eat. I've never experienced this. They want you to get down and dirty. The only thing is I wish their gloves were more durable. Everything is served in plastic bags so it's easy clean up. 12/19/21 The Boiling Crab 129 W Main St Alhambra, CA 91801 I went there on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. This place is in downtown Alhambra and there is a city parking (free) structure nearby on First St. The dining area is large and split into a large and small section. It's a popular place, it was half full when I got there and more people arrived while I was there. There is a small two station hand washing area on the way to the restrooms, you will need to use it if you get anything from the boil menu. I was seated promptly at a table covered with paper and my waitress shortly came to take my order. I ordered the 1 pound of mussels with the garlic sauce at the medium heat level and the fried catfish with Cajun fries at the XXX level. The mussels came first in a plastic bag in a stainless steel bucket. The waitress plopped the bag on the table and asked me if I wanted a fork, I said yes and she brought me a little plastic fork which was useless so I used my hands to extract the meat and dip in the sauce at the bottom of the bag. The large pieces of meat were tender, had good garlic flavor and the spice level was high but okay for me. The catfish and fries came second. The portions were generous with 4 deep fried pieces on the Cajun fries. The catfish had an "off" taste to me and not appetizing at all, the breading was bland. The fries were okay and the heat level was about the same as the mussels. I wouldn't get the catfish again but the mussels were good, stick with the boil menu. Maybe a repeat for other boil choices. Three of the boil choices (blue and dungeness crab, and crayfish) were not available so call ahead if you're going for a specific choice. read more

I came for dinner at 8pm and you have to walk in to be place on a waitlist. All your party has to be present to be seated. The worker quoted 30-45 minutes, but we only waited 10 minutes until we got seated. Usually, my go-to order are shrimp and cajun fries. And I recently tried and learned to open crawfish and it was delicious. It is like a mini lobster. I got introduced to try the catfish here and I loved it. So when I came back, I had to order it. I'm not sure why, but the first time I had it, the catfish was slightly better than the second time I had it. We got here late because we set a reservation and the reservation was set up earlier than the estimated time but they were able to have us at the top of the waitlist since we were late which was no issue on them. Ugh, I hate to have to write a negative review seeing that we love Boiling Crab but unfortunately my experience with this location was less than ideal. The only saving grace was the food, but everything else left a bad taste in my mouth towards Boiling Crab Alhambra. I took my mentee here for her birthday we arrived at 8:30 and were told we needed to wait 15-20 minutes even though there were a few tables open but that was no problem, we just went outside to take some photos and the wait was 12 minutes. We got to our table a little before 9. We ordered our food either our server and she was very excited as she loves seafood, we waited for food which didn't seem to take long but here in lies the problem: as soon as our food all arrived at our table presumably the manager or server who was not the one serving us began to rush us out and said we're about to close with over 30 minutes till closing. From that point on we felt rushed out as the servers around us loudly started putting up the tables I checked the time and we still had over 30 minutes to eat. She was watching the commotion and kept asking should we just go (during her birthday dinner) I told her enjoy your food and don't worry about the time. We finished our drink and our server was no where in sight but other servers kept stopping by to look in which was excessive as we were in the back table closest to the window. This same man who informed us of the closing then came around again not long after and put to go cups on our table so we were ready to go, too which we felt more rushed but at this point there was still people in our section. Immediately after another lady who was not our server came by asking if we wanted refills to which we said sure and told her what we had she takes our cup comes back and tells us the soda machine is off already, it didn't sound truthful at all and finally almost a minute after this lady left our server comes back around and ask if we wanted a refill and I look at my mentee who now speaks up and says the other server said the soda machine is off, I give the server a knowing look and she is about to still get us a refill but the birthday girl tells her the man brought to go cups to us so instead she just leaves. I can see the birthday girl was no longer enjoying her dinner and couldn't focus on anything but the servers making a point to get out before closing, by then I also lost my appetite by the incessant stopping and looking. It was still more than 15 minutes till closing. After that we never saw our server again. I go to wash my hands as the last table in our section gets up and see and here a lot of commotion in the front, the restaurant in the front is still full of people sitting and enjoying their dinner and I'm immediately annoyed now. When I come back I tie my bag to go and let her keep eating he brings the check to me and I pay but was extremely disappointed with the service and the overall impression I have of this location. When we walk out before 10pm every table in the front of the restaurant is filled with people enjoying their meal still eating and the birthday girl is offended, she didn't even get to open her birthday present or card. I do my best to turn it around and take pictures but when we drive off home around 10:15, there are still people there. I love the boiling crab! I always receive great service here. Out of any seafood boil I've tried, the shabang sauce is simply the best. I also love that BC offers salt/pepper and lemons. The fried shrimp basket is EXCELLENT. I love that the shrimp is not really breaded and with some lemon squeezed over it, it is chefs kiss. Their Cajun and lemon pepper fries and onion rings are always on point. One major drawback for me is the quality of their shrimp. It is not always the best quality and they don't offer the shrimp deveined. This is huge for me. When you try to remove the poop after it is cooked, it is slimy and squishes all over. I really wish they had the option for deveined shrimp even if at a higher cost. I will often choose a different shrimp boil restaurant because of this, but I still crave the shabang sauce which eventually keeps me coming back to BC. So today me and my family wanted boiling crab so we went to this location like always. We never had an issue til today. I was arriving and my parents were putting their names on the waiting list. My parents are elderly but jn the past there never have been an issue with boiling crab. When I arrived I went to check our place on the list because for some reason they had not texted my father with a link. Speaking to the female that had blue hair strands and a nose ring, she informed me that they did not have my parents on the waiting list. I asked her what had happened and she informed me that she did talk to my parents but for some reason their information was not recorded. I put my name with my number down for the list now and she told me it would be 2 and a half hour wait. Keep in mind my parents have already waited for over 40 minutes before I arrived. She had no compassion or understanding in her voice or demeanor. I felt like she didn't care that there was a mix up. She was the one to talk to my parents and she remembered them. The waits are sometimes long but over all always worth it.
