Quick review; This is the spot to go for a seafood boil in Burbank. Great food, good service, and fun atmosphere. Good times at the Burbank Boiling Crab. I recommend you try one of these seafood boil spots at least once during your tenure on Earth. But fair warning, it's gonna be messy and labor intensive getting through your meal. So if you're just trying to have a nice, civilized dinner with a partner, forget it. You better be ready to get dirty, get flirty, and stuff each other's faces with meat! Most of the menu is a la carte. So if you want crab, first you choose the type of crab, then how you want it sauced. If you want potatoes you gotta add it, and so on. There is no set combo for the seafood boils. Which is a mistake imo. Why not have a combo where you get crab legs, corn, and potatoes. Or crawfish, sausage and corn, and so on. I think it make it easier. We ended up ordering a number of things off the menu; king crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and fried soft shell crab basket w fries. And ya we ate every single morsel between 2 people! If I could add an improvement, it would be the option to have your seafood cleaned for you. Either by table side, or someone in the back. I'm sure people would pay extra for the service. Because cleaning the seafood yourself (cracking shells, peeling, etc) is very labor intensive, and if you don't know what your doing, you can actually hurt yourself. Besides that, a person who's inexperienced might not even know how to get crab meat out of the leg. Opening up a crab leg takes 5 sec if you have proper scissors. Where as the tools they provide aren't really optimal for the task. They give you a type of nut cracker, and a tool you can poke meat through the shells. With that said, I recommend skipping the shrimp entirely. They take a long time to clean, and since they have not been deveined, the 'poop shoot' is still in tact. It needs to be removed or your eating poopy shrimp. Most people don't know this, some don't care, but I don't know, I guess I'm not much into eating shrimp poop so I took time removing it. Just a pointer for yall, skip shrimp. In conclusion, The Boiling Crab is one of the better restaurants in Burbank. The city is actually lacking in fine dinning, but for a fun casual place this really hits the spot. read more

I'm sad to say that I was dissapointed with my experience at Boiling Crab. My family and I used to go to the Alhambra location, but when Crab Avenue in Glendale opened up, we started going there instead. We decided to come here for our "Easter Dinner" on Saturday night. It looked busy but we were told that the wait would be only 25-30 minutes for our party of eight. It ended up being 45 minutes instead. We were seated at a table that was kind of small, but we made it work. We ordered some fries and chips, and king crab legs and shrimp for our seafood. The shrimp was really hard to peel, and the crab legs seemed mushy and slightly off in flavor. Not to mention, the whole shabang sauce was TOO salty, and they sort of skimp with the amount of sauce in the bag. The cajun fries were delicious but even the mild seemed spicy. On a positive note, the service was great. They really do a wonderful job at making sure the wait time for the food is minimal. Our waiter William was helpeful and patient with our party. Forget the one in K-Town where the wait is over an hour or two long, this location is spacious, A grade clean, and has amazing service. Both outdoor and indoor seating. There is parking available in many different nearby public parking structures around Palm Ave. Keep in mind this place opens at 3pm on weekdays, we sort of arrived 30 minutes early and was left outside in the rain but it was so worth it to wait! The booth seats are the best and most intimate. They give you a bib to put over yourself, although no gloves available, and they put a new paper on the table for evert customer that arrives. Eat with your hands, don't be afraid to get messy! I ordered one pound of shrimp, corn, wings, and lemon pepper fries. The shrimp was super fresh and it was boiling hot when it came to us. Choose your fish, your sauce style (recommend: the whole shebang), and how hot you want it. The wings were good, the outside was hard but the inside was just right. The lemon pepper fries were amazingly tasty. For my gluten free people: do not order the fries, get the potatoes that come in the bag with the corn. The hostess very nicely warned us not to order the fries if we have a gluten allergy,I'm assuming they use the same fryer as their breaded shrimp/fish. I especially love that they have Micheladas that taste authentic, and Margaritas made with a Sobe Rice based tequila. Both are very tasty and very enjoyable with the food. Not as good as it used to be. I have eaten at plenty of boiling crab locations but somehow this particular location doesn't have the same taste. I ordered the king crab legs and a pound of crawfish. The sauce was really salty and it didn't pair well with my beer. The waiter was very attentive and cheerful, however we waited for over an hour for a taste of disappointment. Went with wife for a nice dinner evening. Place was very busy and noisy. Food is served with no plates or silverware. Finger eating only and no hand sanitizer provided before eating. Was disappointed with the crab and catfish we ordered. Portions served were not that great and seemed very pricey for what we got. This will be our first and last visit to this restaurant. read more

Honestly can't get enough of "boiling crab" come here at least 4-5 times a month, I absolutely love there shrimp and fries .. best combo is whole shebang, mild perfect amount of heat, not to little to where you can't taste it but not to much like your reaching for water every other shrimp, customer service is always great some servers are better then other but there all relatively good, my only complaint is the 1-2 hour wait, I highly suggest making reservations or going on yelp and getting your name on the list.. Im overdue, this is a precovid review. Service is amazing. There's always a wait, regardless of which boiling crab you go to. That's how you know it's worth it! Oysters are tasty! I've only tried the shrimp and mussels in whole shabang, I wish was more adventurous with the menu but I'm just getting started on my seafood endeavors. Our order got mixed up and the server made me uncomfortable by grabbing my friend's bag of shrimp and giving it to me after she had already started eating. Thought it was weird my friend had to wait for them to bring her order after it was taken away and given to me. Then when the check came we split it into 3 cards and tipped the percentage recommended on the first card which we clearly told the server the tip was on the first card. The she asked me if I'm going to tip when it was time for me to pay my half with my card I said yes I will tip again even though we already did she didn't hand me the machine to pay till she asked again are you going to tip. I guess she didn't hear my yes so I told her once again she finally handed me the machine to pay. Which asks me if I want to tip! Don't understand why she felt the need to pressure me to tip again. My husband decided to try coming here mid afternoon on a weekday since it's really packed on the weekends. When you get seated the hostess will rip off a large paper and place it on the table as you sit so you can see it's been untouched. If you have never eaten here before you will soon realize why they do this. We ordered the shrimp and it came within less than 5 minutes of ordering. That told me two things, it's already been cooked and has been sitting for God knows how long. We asked for plates and they told us there are no plates, but they can give us a basket. Um, don't opt for the basket. It's really not easy to eat off that. It's like when you eat at a fast food place, you don't know clean it is under that paper protecting your food. Plus good luck trying to eat your shrimp off that. The paper absorbs the oils and it rips allowing your shrimp to be against the reusable plastic basket. I know this as I was watching my husband struggle to peel his shrimp with the plastic fork and spoon they call "utensils" it's so flimsy that you will end up tossing them aside to eat with your hands. The shrimp comes whole (with head, shell, tail, including poop) in the plastic bag with oily juices. They will not give you a bucket or place to dispose of your shells. They do not tell you any of these things. I just looked around and saw people eating with their hands off the table. Now after removing a shrimp from the bag it's really impossible to peel. It's overcooked or not fresh. It can explain why it came so fast. It's not hard to cook the shrimp people order "as made when ordered" It's a pound and shrimp doesn't take long to cook.To be honest, I'd prefer to wait for my food as I know it's being cooked. The lemon pepper fries we ordered took longer to come out than our shrimp and tasted great. The manager will come around or someone that looks important with a blue shirt and ask how everything is. We told her our shrimp was hard to peel and it's hard to eat with plastic forks. She smiled and just walked away. Interesting...didn't respond to our complaint in any way, no apologies nor tried to make it better. Hmmm.... Here's a list of what to expect: 1. Shrimp came faster than the fries and our drinks. 2. Shrimp was really hard to peel and rubbery with no taste. 3. No utensils (unless you consider plastic forks utensils and trust me, it won't work on the hard to peel shrimp). 4. No plates. We would have been happy with paper or plastic. Anything really. 5. Manager will ask you how it's going and if you complain, they will just smile and walk away. 6. I recommend you wear a bib because it's messy. 7. You have to eat with your hands right off the table. 8. You will need all the napkins possible. I don't recommend this place. There are better places like this nearby like Crab Avenue in Glendale and our second choice would be the Crabby Crab in Sherman Oaks. I write these reviews so you don't have to waste your time. If you do decide to go here try eating something else. But if it's busy, I bet they already have the food cooked and waiting so you will get in faster than you can imagine. I am a frequent visiting of the Alhambra boiling crab but was in the Burbank area so I thought I way of try. I knew I should have left the moment I went in. It smelled pretty bad. My friend and I debated leaving but decided to stay since the waiter came to our table before we could leave. We ordered a pound of crab and when it came it was way under a pound. I'm talking tiny. I was going to say something but I know sometimes it's under a pound so I tried to ignore it. There ended up being hardly any meat inside and it was pretty gray and the sauce tasted like water down hot sauce. The Boiling Crab is unabashedly the place you go to stuff your face with literal bags of saucy savory seafood. Let's not fool each other... eating is eating. Sure you can dress it up, and dress yourself up, and light candles, and invite close friends, and order fancy well-composed dishes... but at the end of the day; you take the food, you put it in your mouth, and if you need to, chew. And we all know what happens later... .... Netflix and then bed. I went on a date to this venue and I've never been more in love with the person across from me. If you feel you can't love your significant other any more than you already do, or you're starting to NOT love them as much, or you don't know IF you love them; I invite you to watch them rip apart tiny sea animals with a bib on. If that doesn't fortify your relationship, it's not worth having. I also recommend watching "Antichrist" with them afterwards. If you can survive that movie with a friend or loved one, nothing can stop you from then on. These meals will genuinely fill you up, and they have all kinda seafood. If you're going all in, definitely get the works, get every sauce and seasoning and feel the burn. You will be FILTHY by the end of this experience, keep that in mind. The service was awesome, everyone was really nice. I didn't give this 5 stars because I thought the fried oysters were overpriced for an extremely small amount of food.
