My long overdue review, Been here more than 30 times lol, obviously my favorite restaurant in the bay area, i've been to many creole/cajun restaurants similar to boiling crab but no one beats the taste of there tasty sha-bang flavor or i can say everything on their menu. We don't care about the 2 hours wait cause its worth it anyway, The price is affordable. Service is always fast as they have a lot of servers to help, Also one thing if your planning to come in group make sure that everyone is present as they wont let you seat if not complete, It's always crowded as expected that's why we always ask for the seats next to the window so the room will be more spacious, Ambiance is nice especially when the food comes in. read more

Love love love the whole shebang sauce here. Service is decent, and there can be a wait if you come on a busy day.

Blue Crab meat portion was small as hell, felt like they scammed us. Cracked it open, the meat was thinner than your pinky finger. Crab basically had little to NO meat. Overall service felt like we were interrupting them, for more context the waiters looked very unenthusiastic when speaking to us and serving our order. Ordered boiling crab for takeout since there is no outdoor seating or dining options due to COVID-19. Called about 10-15 minutes ahead and the order was ready for pickup when we arrived. Everyone had masks on and there were tons of workers inside working to accommodate the massive number of orders. They confirmed the order with us by physically showing us the food we ordered. Service was quick and easy! They also gave us bibs and table sheet to put the seafood on for easy clean up. We got fried oysters, which were delicious! Wish it stayed crispy on the transit home but sadly, the breading gets soft the longer you wait to eat it. Also ordered Shabang sauce medium spicy for the crab, crawfish, and shrimp. Some of the shrimp was a little over cooked and the crab legs were a little hard to get the meat out. Overall, delicious sauce and seafood. I called in around 12:30 pm on a Saturday and it took a while for someone to pick up the phone, most likely it was busy! They write down your phone number and text you when your order is ready, which is really convenient! The wait was around 30 minutes. What we ordered: * 1 lb medium shabang shrimp * 3 lb mild shabang shrimp * 1 bag of mild shabang clams * 1 mild shabang corn The total came out to around ~$90. The shrimp is pretty good and well flavored! Surprisingly not spicy but the medium shrimp was spicy. The bag of clams we received barely had any clams. I guess we paid for a bag of clam shells :/ You can definitely taste the spice in the clams though. Mild was good for everyone to enjoy! When you order corn, you're supposed to order the number of corn you would like. I originally ordered a (1) bag of corn for my family but ended up with just (1) corn. Love the crawfish here! My friend and I went during late dinner hours and there was a long wait (hour or so, maybe more), though we knew beforehand and planned accordingly so not an issue. When we checked in, we were seated really quick, given time to order (the waitstaff are nice), and then not long after (15ish min) we got our food which is great. The crawfish are nice and size-able and the sauces are to die for!! I liked it enough to order more the next day and I was very much satisfied w the crawfish again-- bonus, the wait time was short LOL. This place is almost ALWAYS packed, the staff is ALWAYS smiling, the food ALWAYS hits. I live in San Francisco and I never hesitate when someone asks me, " Wana go to Boiling crab?". My last experience was particularly great. Despite not being able to dine in because they were so busy, I placed an order to-go. Everyone was super attentive and friendly. I was approached with great hospitality, given clear directions on time estimate and where to pick up, hand off was easy and quick. We ate here for the first time yesterday and waited about an hour and 45 minutes for a table, the food was worth the wait. Everything was delicious. We got oysters, a pound of shrimp, a pound of crawfish, four drinks, and fries all for under $100 which seemed wild (I promise we tipped as well). It's just a really fun place to eat a lot of yummy food from a bag! I also have to give props to the hostess that was working on Sunday night (6/4), she was amazing. She was so sweet, got us drinks when the servers weren't really tending to us (we found it pretty difficult to get anyone else's attention and no one really checked in on us except for the hostess), and overall she just seemed to be going way above and beyond for everyone! Oh my god that shebang sauce I have ascended to garlic heaven. This was my first time at boiling crab or any restaurant like it. I don't have much experience with crab or seafood. I loved it! I tried the king crab, dunginess crab, shrimp, and mussels. Why are their fries so tasty?? For sides I got potatoes, sausages, corn, rice, and fries. I also tried the soft shelled crab, which was also great. I have only praise for everything I ordered. I couldn't tell the taste difference personally between king and Dungeness personally so I'd get the cheaper one next time. My group likes spicy food but aren't masochistic; medium was perfect for us. I am such a Boiling Crab addict and I'm not even from here. Always have been a seafood head! Silly lame fact, if I lived in the ocean I'd be a crustacean. The Boiling Crab I mostly go to is in Sacramento only because I'm from Reno. But the ones I've gone to they all taste good and service is pretty much all the same. I've tried other seafood places other than Boiling Crab around California but I will always be a fan of Boiling Crab's "the whole shabang". I guess the only one thing I don't like about it is the waiting, I mean who doesn't?! Anyways, my order typically depends on what I'm craving for. This place is TERRIBLE. I asked for gloves and the waitress was chatting with the next table and ignored my ask. We waited for like 3min with the food on the table and no gloves provided. After she's done talking to the next table, the waitress went straight away and never brought the gloves, I finally grabbed the gloves myself. Also the seafood is NOT fresh, especially the king crab legs. The shells are extremely soft and almost unable to remove with their tools, and they don't provide scissors for customers to use. So as the shrimps, not fresh, but less hard to remove the shells. I will never come back to this place again. read more

Great experience dining here. We went when the weather was better but there was a line out the door. I don't remember if they had a yelp app to sign in for the lines but it would be nice to have. So popular now, small Orange County single restaurant is now a huge chain! You can't go wrong eating in person or at home, so cool dumping a bag of shrimp or crawfish in the table and making a big mess. Good thing is if you get takeout they give you a plastic disposable table cover now so you can eat just a messy at the restaurant but in private. Love the "whole shebang" sauce at spicy level, it's hit but you can still enjoy the food a lot. When we ordered we asked how much sausage comes per order and they said 3 slices so we got 4 orders. May have been some miscommunication because we got at least 20 slices in the bag. Shrimp, corn, sausage, and potato my favorites combo. The crawfish is good but less meat in them and harder to unpeel than shrimp. read more

Join the waitlist on Yelp, literally cuts down your wait time by A LOT. I joined the waitlist when we were just on our way and it was a 1-1.5 hours wait, but when we got there to check in we were seated right away. I was surprised that there were no combos on the menu so we ended up ordering it separately. We got 1lb shrimp, 1lb muscles with a corn and potatoes, sweet potato fries, and rice. Not even 5 minutes after ordering our foods, it was ready! I had pretty high expectations for the foods here. The sweet potato fries were really good - crispy and not thick. The bag of seafood came shortly after and when we opened it, it was obvious there was barely any sauce. We both didn't really like the sauce itself, it was way too salty for me. Also, a lot of the shrimps were overcooked, incredibly hard to peel because the skin was sticking to the meat. So overall, the bag of seafood was meh for us. Not worth the drive to SJ. It was also a little expensive compared to other places we've been to. However, service was great! Our server was super attentive! Overall, we've definitely had better foods. DELICIOUSSSSSSS food. Arrived at this Boiling crab location on a Wednesday evening (7PM-ish) with a party of 5 (total) and seated right away. There were about 4-6 tables (which could seat 4 or 6 ppl max) that were still empty - figured we sat down before the dinner mid-week rush. We ordered: Crabber Fries (sp?) - freaking BOMB. Absolutely recommend you order this if you haven't already. Lumps of real (yes REAL) crab lobbed onto a pile of fries (we chose Cajun seasoning) and in a blink of an eye, we had devoured it before the bags of seafood arrived. Gumbo (with rice) - Good. I don't think I've ever had great gumbo but this was a very tasty dish. (Just wish it had arrived pipping hot instead of moderately warm). Not spicy what so ever (to my personal rating of spiciness). Good for people who may like mild spicy foods (or not at all). 2 lbs of fresh shrimp - please make note: their menu does distinguish between fresh and frozen; select whatever makes you happy. 1lb was medium spicy, whole she-bang sauce with potatoes and sausage. Freaking devoured this by myself!!! Spice was just right and LOTS of garlic (YUM!!). The other 1lb was mild spicy, whole she-bang sauce with corn and potatoes (we reallllly like carbs) - also delicioussssss. Fried catfish basket (comes with fries - opted for Cajun seasoning) - it was alright in my opinion. The fish had that "fishy" taste but maybe I'm weird? Rest of the party really liked it and some had never tried catfish before. 1lb of crawfish - no opinion on this - I don't like and did not try the crawfish. The rest of the party enjoyed it. I love the boiling crab but it's a bit too salty to eat with my high blood pressure but I do still indulge once in awhile. Their crab fries, omg the lemon pepper fries are so good. The bag of shrimp is messy but so tasty. I have also had the soft shell crab but too salty and I can't do that much fried. We probably drive down from Daly City at least once a month whenever we're craving cajun. We've tried other cajun houses nearby our area and nothing just beats the whole she bang. Also I'm a calamari fan and not everyone gets it right. But here its always so gadam crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Thinking about it makes my mouth water lol. We like to dip it with tartar sauce. Our go to is half lb shrimp whole she bang and half lb shrimp lemon pepper. We also like the lemon pepper wings and recently the crabber fries. 1/2 order of the crabber fries is good to share for 2-3 peeps. Service here is pretty good. PRO TIP: Unlike Boiling Crab lines in the past you can now get on the waitlist on Yelp to cut your wait times in half or less. Note, you can only get on the waitlist when you're 25 miles within distance to the restaurant. We tried going to the other location but the waitlist ended up being closed since it was packed during labor day, but luckily this location still had their waitlist open. We put our name down and then within 10 mins I was already 2nd in line. We had ~30 mins to get to the location and once we got there we only had to wait 5 mins to get seated for our group of 5 people. WOOHOO. My usual order is 1lb of shrimp with the whole shabang (medium) with a side of cajun fries (mild) and side of white rice. YUM!. If you're feeling extra hungry, adding sausage to your bag is a definite must. Also if you like your salt & pepper with lime be sure to ask for extras and then add the used limes in your bag once it lands on your table!
