I went to Boiling Crab last night because I was craving a seafood boil and boy did it hit the spot. The meal was flavor packed. I got my usual order: lemon pepper shrimp medium spice, corn triple x spice, and Cajun triple x fries. I prefer lemon pepper because the whole shabang is too garlicky for my liking. The triple x spice is a kick for sure. I don't know where Boiling Crab sources their corn from but they are the best I've ever had. The sweetness of the corn with the spicy spice blend is absolute perfection. I always order one to go to enjoy later. The place had a 15-30 minute wait when I arrived but we we got seated in 10 minutes. They're pretty fast with the service which was great because I came in hungryyy. Will definitely be coming back! This Torrance location is clean with good parking and a nice staff but The MVP was our waiter, PENA. My husband called in an order for me to pick up and he has to leave his cc down and was told if no one picks it up we'd get charged $80, which was fine and I respect it. Togo definitely isn't the same as eating there. Some of the shrimp were overcooked and mushy probably from being in the bag for too long on the dive home. I love seafood. I grew up munching on tilapia, shrimp, and octopus. So when my sister invited me to the Boiling Crab, I jumped. Now, I had mixed feelings of the Boiling Crab when it first came to LA. I had a colleague who invited the entire office to her birthday dinner at the Boiling Crab except for me. I was the only one she didn't invite because she just didn't like me. I had always been a little jaded of this joint, but I did want to try it. Now, the restaurant itself is kind of cold which is great for a sweaty summer. The staff are fantastic! Very friendly and welcoming. The place is clean considering the countless customers. Even though it's advertised with an adult bar hang out space, most people brought their young children. Expect noise from the kiddos. Now to the food: Yum! I know this is a seafood restaurant but I love their lemon pepper chicken wings! So warm, crunchy, and packed with flavor. In my opinion, the Cajun seasoning is pretty spicy. We ordered the Whole Shabang and it was very spicy to me. I will say that I do not tolerate spice very well. If you do then you will like it. I prefer lemon pepper with garlic, butter, and fresh lemon. I'm a simple gal. The andouille sausages were delicious. Not squishy or porky at all. I usually hate sausages but these andouille were a great addition. The lobster order was also good. Not praise worthy lobster but yummy enough. I had a fun time removing the meat from the crab, too! I definitely worked for my meal! All in all, Boiling Crab is a great spot to go to with people you enjoy. I've never done it by myself but I did see a handful of solo diners. Torrance Food Crawl #427 The Boiling Crab has become very popular very quickly. At peak hours, there is almost always a waiting line. This is one of 30 locations around the world and I assume it follows the same formula at each location. The main items on the menu are seafood, like four types of crab, lobster, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, clams, or mussels. Sauce is added in four flavors, rajun cajun, lemon pepper, the whole shebang (multiple sauces), and garlic butter. And the level of spice can be selected from no spice to XXX. The seafood is thrown into a plastic bag, tossed, and delivered to your table. Then, you get to go through the messy process of eating your meal. I sampled the blue crab option from someone else and it was quite good. I ordered a pound of clams; I had to pick out the clam meat with my fingers which produced a lot of empty shells. But the bottom line was that the clams were tasty, with the spicy cajun sauce I had selected nicely complementing the clams. There are other options like baskets that include fried seafood and french fries. I tried the Catfish and Scallop baskets. The catfish was delicious. The scallops were, I'll say, interesting, because they were covered with a breading, but the scallops themselves tasted raw, a consistency I'm not accustomed to (I'm used to scallops being fried in a skillet, not served unfried). I wouldn't mind trying the catfish again; the scallops I'll skip next time. The Gumbo can be ordered with or without rice. My gumbo, with rice, had a surprisingly small quantity of rice compared to what usually receive from other cajun restaurants. The gumbo included okra, which is a good thing, but there was much too much okra, which was a not so good thing. I ordered extra sausage, and I would recommend doing this if you try the gumbo. As a first timer I decided to checkout some of the reviews the day before going, and they were very realistic and 100% factual. Not one of them lied! When pulling in to park, you can see this place is extremely popular based on people trying to get in and out. I knew since we arrived around 5:45pm on a Friday we would wait about an hour if not a bit more based on time, date, and size of party (9), we waited just 3 minutes shy of an hour before they told us our table was ready. The place is loud, but not in a I can't hear anything else but noise type of way... it's more vibrant or maybe energetic loud like when your extended family comes over or group of friends and everyone is just having a good time type of loud. It makes you feel at home, you know welcomed. Which if you were there for the game, the tvs have captions. The food was honestly, really phenomenal! My 9 month old son did not turn anything away that I gave him to try. My 9 year old picky daughter ate all her food, which was amazing. I requested her fries on her kids meal be unseasoned/plain... and she was so happy. We got 3 baskets of fries for table to start, 2 Cajun and 1 lemon pepper both medium level. They both were great tasting and crispy it just comes down to preference and since I prefer spicy food I kept grabbing towards the Cajun. My husband was a bit bummed that they were out of Dungeness and blue crab and frozen crawfish, but he was relieved that he could still order snow crab and live crawfish. The service was not the same. It was busy. But it's always busy at the Boiling Crab . We were done with our food by the time they checked on us for refills.
