Just been there first time last week. If we expect the goodness of Hong Kong cafe in Asia level, this place is so far behind. But in overall, it's fast, filling, tasty (and oily), and affordable! :) I really like their stir fry udon though, the texture of udon is chewy, I love it so much, better than other places. I like it so much that I thought of it the whole week, and I had to cook it last Sunday at home to satisfy my craving for that dish, haha read more

I ordered the $20 dinner set and asked for fries as a side. It came with rice instead so I asked the server if she could switch it for me. She immediately set the plate down on my table, took a spoon and bowl and messily scooped the rice off of the plate. She brought some fries back after. I could tell that all the servers was busy but her actions were too shocking for me. I think she should have at least taken the plate back to the counter first before removing the rice. I came with family and there was a lot of mistakes with our orders even though when I asked our server to repeat our order it sounded correct. I am guessing the kitchen staff was a bit unorganized as well. The servers became impatient with us when we noted the mistakes with our orders, which quite upsetting.The mediocre service was understandable but attitudes were uncalled for. read more

A good place to eat for a pretty decent price but I wouldn't really consider myself a regular here even though the food isn't too bad. A nice oasis of Chinese food inside one of the largest mall in Greater Vancouver. Expect long waits during busy lunch hours. Don't expect great customer service but the food delivers. This is only accepts cash! I like the set lunch menu which comes with a drink. Selection is good but keep in mind the portions for the set lunches are not big. That may mean different things to different people. That also means to some that the price seems more expensive than usual. The Hong Kong style breakfast is also available throughout the day. Again portions are not big but food quality wise it's acceptable. Overall it's a not too bad place to go if you want some quick Chinese/hk style food. I thought the portion was really small for 10.50. I ordered beef and spaghetti. I was really small but it did come with coffee. It tasted fine and was what I expected. Rent must be high there. The other grip I had was there wasn't a sugar substitute available at the table. The next issue I had was it was hard getting a server for help. They need to staff more. This is one of the cleanest Chinese food restaurant around town. We usually go after shopping in metrotown. Sometimes we are the few customers at the end of the night. We saw them even clean the menu book! Booth seats are private and comfortable. Food is average HK style. read more

Ordered the curry beef brisket on rice and they came out with curry chicken on rice. They changed it but the beef brisket curry was warm in some spots and cold in other spots meaning it was just microwaved. For $11.50, I got 5 pieces of potatoes and 4 small pieces of meat. For quick food and a group dinner, this place isn't too shabby. Ate here a couple of times with large groups of friends, service was good, and the food was tasty! I go to these HK style cafes pretty often and hadn't been to the Boss for a couple years so dropped by out of convenience while at Metrotown. Ordered the braised lamb with rice and mixed meat grill. The lamb was $17 and medium small portion with fairly mild flavour and relatively bland compared to the authentic fermented bean curd usually used to prepare this dish. I would not order it again and nor would I recommend it. The mixed grill was definitely overpriced at about $25 considering the disastrous quality of meats. This included a 4oz steak I believe and this is the first time in my life I have ever been served processed beef for steak. I didn't even know this existed! Like a piece of meat that had the appearance of grilled steak but was actually textured like luncheon or deli meat (I believe it was intentional to hide the nasty ungraded quality of meat.). My friend got stomach discomfort shortly after and I threw up that evening too. Sad times. read more

They have one of the worst service I have ever experienced. I ordered fried rice to myself and was eating it, and I heard them talking in chinese to another saying how can this little girl eat so much and kept talking I mean you have a job, stop talking. This place is going from bad to worst. I originally gave them two star before they renovated but I have to downgrade that to just one star and here is why. The food now is just bad, plain and simple. Had two dishes and both were well below standard. I would say they are just a plain rip off. Toppings on the Lor hon ji veggie noodles was next to none existent, the one piece of water chestnut I got was the size of a dime and about as thin too, about three or four pieces of Yu choy sum (one piece was actually rotten) a couple mushrooms that they didn't bother to remove the stem (tough to chew so I spat it out) and some small pieces of canned corn ( they use to give you the whole mini corn but now just cut it into half inch pieces) and the rest was noodles (too much oil since it was swimming in it). The other dish was a vermicelli that was suppose to have pickle in it that makes it slightly sour but there was no sign of it and it tasted bland, there was not much in it as well as they have skimped out on the BBQ pork. I also hate the new decor, make it look so cheap, like a cafeteria with those awful neon lights. The service was terrible, no one took our order and we had to wave them in, no refill on the tasteless coloured water which passes for tea. Had trouble even getting the bill, I still left a 15% tip but I didn't think it was worth it. I will not be back and I don't recommend this place. Way too expensive for what you get. Bill came out to over forty buck for a couple substandard noodle dishes. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else for your Hong Kong style Chinese food. Pretty bad. Food was alright, typical 1 item on the menu gets extended to 30 items and the only difference is the meat or a side. Once you filter through everything it was about a 30 min wait which wasn't too bad. Asked if you wanted the bill together or separate ahead of time which was quite weird, we went in the afternoon not at night. The taking away of the plates was fast though. (Within prob a min). Went to pay (which was cash only in metro...zzz either tax evasion or didn't want visa to take a portion even though in 2016 a lot of people dont carry cash. Note: there was a sign that said cash only im just pointing it out.) and then the bill was together even though they asked ahead of time? Okay no problem. I explained we wanted it separate, and they said "No we can't we even asked ahead of time. Like what??? is it that hard to pull out a calculator or phone? and the attitude they gave me when i asked if its possible to split it. I expect this at the place outside of a mall but not in metro. Never again would force my self to go to willy's and drink their no name unlabeled soda from their machine and sushi rolls sitting outside for 4 hrs instead. Save your self from going to the ATM. I was shopping at metrotown yesterday and I was hungry so we decided to go to Boss. The place looks really nice from the outside.. and it was so convenient. I was expecting a pleasant dining experience and my dream was shattered the moment we walked in. First of all, the servers are realllly unprofessional. they don't even smile. they don't even talk. they just pointed to our seats and pretty much threw our menus to us. she didnt even smile once. I had the beef and veggies on rice and my bf had the club sandwich. The food came super fast. like.. in 3 minutes. Which is a good thing... and hence the 2 stars instead of 1. but if i wasn't so damn hungry, i don't think i would've eaten it. It was not gross, but it was not tasty. the portion was BIG, again a good thing. My bf's club sandwich had tiny tiny pieces of meat in it, and the thing cost twice as much as other sandwiches. I joked to him to savour those meat pieces because each one is a dollar. It was quite unpleasant having workers push around garbage cans and cleaning tables beside you and spraying cleansing solution while you're eating. Is that even sanitary? So in conclusion, I will not be returning. Forgot to mention the place actually looks pretty nice inside. Too bad they ruined it with bad food and service. read more
