The Bricks was a random, interesting stop after a long IKEA run with my sister. We wanted vegan and vegetarian options and it was nearby, so in we went. Let me just say the website and online menu doesn't match the vibe inside - which isn't a bad thing, it's just different. The menu was more cafe-style and the place felt like a slightly more upscale college bar. The menu had something for everyone and all of our meals were really good. Between the 3 of us, we got the veggie cuban, vegan burrito and vegan tacos. Everything was delicious! My boyfriend surprised me for our anniversary by taking me here. The atmosphere is really cool!! I love how they served coffee besides bar drinks. We got queso and chips for an appetizer which was really great. For dinner we both got the Bird and Pig. The sandwich was fantastic!!! It's in the heart of downtown ybor city, so there's a lot of cool stores within walking distance as well. I would go to to this place just for the service. The atmosphere is awesome, cool shirts for sale, and then you learn the place is owned by the Tampa Skate Park (REALLY cool). They had really tasty drinks and I always appreciate when you can taste the alcohol. They had just launched their new menu Thursday and we went on Saturday. After reviewing their menu, which seemed a bit obnoxious, (I'm talking quirky names that require you read the description to be able to decipher what you're eating) I settled on the sandwich with an egg on it! Im a sucker for a runny egg on just about anything! Messy eggs, bacon, mozzarella, jalapeño aioli, on toasted cuban bread; this holy grail of a sandwich is called THE CURE! I have been back a few times to this establishment just for this sandwich, the mimosas too. Oh yea they have liquor so you can totally have drinks here. The ambience is very chill. There are a good amount of tables inside and bar seating; no outside seating. I have been here on a Sunday for brunch and found it to be pretty family/kid friendly. This is a cute little spot beyond the rows of restaurants and bars in Ybor. It's on the side going towards downtown. We stopped in here after purchasing a CL deal, because we wanted to try something new. When we went there, we were able to seat ourselves. The time was around 6pm and it was not busy but not empty. I like the vibe of the restaurant/bar. They have many different options for drinks and special coffee beverages. Of course I redeemed the Yelp check in for a free specialty coffee. I got the skinny chica iced. It was good. For dinner, I had the Tasmanian bowl. I thought it was very flavorful and spicy (in a good way). I wish there was more Asian slaw and black bean relish in the bowl vs Rice. We shared the coffee chocolate cake dessert. I thought it was very tasty. The icing was the coffee part I think, because I didn't taste it throughout the cake that much. I will also add that the service staff was attentive and the food came out fast. Overall this is great option if you want to try something different and not break the bank. With our two entrees and dessert the bill was under $30. First time here and it was definitely a great experience. It was a beautiful day so we chose to sit outside, where very few people were so it was a nice quiet atmosphere. I ordered an iced chocolate milk and it was the most flavorful chocolate milk I've ever had a restaurant. Some friends ordered mimosas and were able to customize their flavor combinations even though it wasn't listed as such on the menu. The food was great, I ordered breakfast and friends ordered lunch. There are a few painted pictures in the back outside, and one of them has real money from various countries in it which was cool. Three is fun art both outside and inside the restrooms. Came here to grab brunch with some friends after an event in Ybor. I wish I could say I was impressed but it was average. We had the biscuits and gravy, their egg sandwich, a mimosa, and an old fashion. Food was ok, not bad but nothing that blew me away. The service was rather slow and they really weren't busy. The egg sandwich was a little dry, needed some kid of sauce(?). The biscuits and gravy had a strange taste, not the normal white gravy with sausage, also lacked a decent amount of sausage. I loved everything about this place. Atmosphere: Casual and trendy. It was very roomy and the place was very clean. Towards the back of the restaurant, they had a bit of louder music. The front of the restaurant was a bit quieter/brighter. The bathroom was filled with fun posters and it was very clean. Food: plenty of gluten free options. My friend got the Tasmanian rice bowl ($13). It had blackened shrimp, basmati rice, queso fresco, black bean corn relish, green onions, and Asian slaw. It was very good! I got the Bird and Pig Sammy. It was delicious. It was a roasted chicken, bacon, apple, and Brie sandwich on pressed Hawaiian bread, drizzled with honey. For $10, it also included a side of your choice. I got tortilla chips and spicy queso (both were gluten free). Drinks: we came in for happy hour and we both got the sangria. Hands down, the best sangria I have ever had in my life! A weekday business appointment in Ybor City provided the perfect excuse to arrive early and enjoy lunch at this restaurant. I think I need more meetings in Ybor. This is a cool, casual place to eat and drink that occupies a roomy street corner location and offers good service as well as good food. There are a lot of seats at the bar but also lots of cozy tables. The noise level is enough to make this a lively setting but not so much that it detracts from the experience. I applaud the many vegetarian options featured on the menu but that are also plenty of dishes for those who like meat, seafood and poultry. Some of the fun, quirky characteristics you don't find everywhere include the mirrored disco ball spinning from the roof and the original art displayed on the walls. There are also conveniences like the ATM and the phone charging station, both located near the restrooms. The lunchtime crowd looked like a good mix of local office workers, families and visitors exploring Ybor City. Well run, a lot of fun and a tasty, tangy veggie Cuban sandwich with a side of quinoa salad. Nice! read more

Yelp to the rescue! In town for the afternoon with my friends, we were looking for a place to eat before our trek back to Orlando. I yelped "lunch" and this place popped up and we couldn't deny the amazing reviews. By the vampire costume outside we knew we picked a cool place. We chose to sit in the front near the large windows and comfy booth. We were immediately greeted by our amazing server and she was on par the entire visit! Cider you ask, YEP! Guacamole to eat for hours on end, yep! Just wish the tortilla chips were a little less wholesale club tasting. I went with the pork quesadilla amazingness and it delivered! I tasted Lisa D's German potato salad and WOW... delicious. This place was so chill that if I lived here, I know I would use this spot as my office. Why 4 stars? Because it's one of my favorite spots in Ybor. --- --- --- My favorite thing to order is a Peanut Butter Bar. This is a very simple item to prepare, but it always seems to satisfy that craving you just can't put your finger on. It's a pressed Hawaiian Sweet Roll with peanut butter and all kinds of fruit and toppings you can choose from to put in the middle. I like to order fluff, creamy PB, grapes, strawberries and banana. I thoroughly enjoy this. Their regular entrees are solid, but not phenomenal in my opinion. I am sure if I were vegan/vegetarian, I could possibly bump them up to 5 stars...but I love cow too much. There are some things with meat on the menu, but they are in the minority. The crowd is very hipster, it's a cool place to hang out if that's your scene. Only stopped in for some dranks while pub crawling around Ybor this past Memorial Day weekend. We didn't realize The Bricks was more eatery than bar, which is fine, we just weren't hungry. Some of the menu items looked great, like The Elvis, so we will have to hit this place up some other time for a more involved review. We ordered some alcoholic coffee dranks and played Nintendo. Yes, Nintendo. Apparently it was retro video game day, and we were glad it was because we had a blast. I realized how much my Super Mario Bros. skills have deteriorated, unfortunately. I'm glad we chose to meet up with friends here at Bricks for our only night in Ybor. Frankly, because every other bar in the surrounding area seemed fairly sketchy. However, Bricks is as cool as the other side of the pillow! Bricks has it all. Upon entering there's a coffee bar to the left, followed by a grown up bar. To the right there's ample seating containing booths and tables. And towards the back of the bar, it looks as if they have enough room for live music. Obviously, there are brick walls - score! It's dark inside, hence no picture uploads from me. Bricks is a place to be seen in downtown Ybor. I really dig this type of atmosphere. The Tuesday special was $3 cans. About ten very good beers to choose from: Uinta Hop Nosh, Red Brick Laughing Skull and Founders All Day come to mind. The ten drafts on hand contained mostly local offerings which had my approval. Our friend asked the bartender to "surprise him" with a whiskey cocktail. We all sampled it and were instantly impressed. It even had a frothed egg! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The bartenders were friendly and cool. They didn't pressure us to order more rounds. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the food. By the looks of it, I'd definitely take a crack at it. Okay, so I really like the Bricks. Let's start with the decor- it's fresh, it's funky, it's IKEA but I love it! I go in there and instantly feel like I'm at home because it's just that hipstery style I love. They've got flowers on the table, it's small enough to feel homey, and the way they have it laid out inside is really open. The drinks are great. Definitely some interesting mixes for the drinks they have. They were having a fernet special the night I went- but I got over Fernet while in Argentina (they LOVE it there) so I passed and got the Gin-Gin. It was amazing. They have a rooftop garden where they get their garnishes and some stuff for their dishes. I think that is super awesome, innovative and sustainable and I recommend giving them your business just because any business that does that needs to be commended. Community gardens, yo! The food is grreeeaatt! But really, I like it a LOT. It's just different- which is nice and awesome. They had a veg burger and it was super filling, but delicious. I'll be back! read more

It was so difficult deciding what to order here. I was in the mood for a skanky chai latte, but the skinny bitch latte just had that calorie conscious ring to it. After a bit of thought I decided, skanky it shall be! This has got to be one of my favorite places in Tampa. I had never really put a pulse on "hipster" in Tampa, but I found the closest thing to it at Bricks. Plenty of space to lounge here with a nice offering that ranged from caffeinated beverages to brews and snacks. I would have never typically thought to throw bacon on a peanut butter and banana sandwich and then drizzle with honey, but I'm glad someone did. The Elvis sandwich is a hunka, hunka, burning yum! I would give this place five stars all day, except for the fact that service is slow. Like, dial-up slow. Like larvae to butterfly metamorphosis slow. So slow in fact that on a pretty *slow* afternoon, it would take 20 minutes just to get an iced chai even though you have a clear view of queue and activity of the servers. So slow that from time of check request to actually receiving it, was about another 20 minutes. While the laid back atmosphere is one of the things that makes this place so cool, it's also the incredibly laid back service that could put a damper on things if you're in a rush. read more

This is a hot spot and for a Monday night it was a busy place. I loved the menu and all of the different combos. The atmosphere was also quite hipster/bar/sports/happy hour. I opted for the grilled supreme cheese sammie, which was on wheat bread with brie, spinach, olive tapanade and just all around goodness. I sat at the bar as I was there with my guy and we were on our way to catch a show at the Ritz. I'd love to go back and chill a bit, but we were on a bit of a time crunch. My first impression of the Bricks is that it had a kind of an identity crisis. Is it trying to be a skater place, a bar, a music place, a hip lounge, a hipster hangout (or whatever hipsters want to call the places they frequent), or an eatery. The only answer I came up with is a combination of all of the above (except for hipsters, didn't see many) which works beautifully. It's like that one dish you try at a pot luck. You look at the ingredients, they don't seem like they're going to jive, but in the end they just do. In terms of consumables, they have a great drink list and some specialty in house mix drinks which seem pretty awesome. Being a beer and shots kinda guy, I got to working my way down their chalkboard list of beer and trying some locals I've never had before. Then I just (at the risk of looking hispterish since apparently they've invaded Milwaukee) went to drinking a PBR pounder. The nachos were amazing and had good flavor. They also didn't skimp on the cheese or topping like some other places. There's nothing sadder than shelling out some hard-earned coin to end up with dry corn chips after only one layer. Dinner was the Bird and Pig and the Burrito. (Note: yes, i'm a big boy, now I didn't have 2 dinners. That's what we ordered and I had some of both). The ambiance was good. They had some good music playing, some old skool thrown in there and a nice anime playing on the TV. I asked the bartender for the title and promptly added it to my Netflix queue (yea, I had a bit of a nerdgasm). All the bartenders were friendly and inviting, and the blonde girl with pigtails is not only strikingly beautiful, but she has some great ink. All in all, I will definitely be back to this place when I'm back in Ybor, even if it is a few blocks from the main drag. read more

The Bricks is a really fun bar to visit whenever you're in Ybor. While it's not "fancy" by any means, it's still one of the more upscale/newer looking bars and the crowd is always fun. I've been to the Bricks several times going out and have eaten there too. The drinks are always mixed really well and the bar usually has some good specials going on every day. The bartenders are always really sweet like you're already friends with them, even if the place is slammed. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken to eat when I dined at the Bricks and honestly it was really good! I was kind of surprised. The Bricks doesn't have your standard "bar food." It's a step above that but not five-star dining by any means. But, the food is still pretty good for a place which is generally considered just a bar. I would definitely come back to try some of the other food. As far as the atmosphere goes, the Bricks is very unique. It's a skater bar so there are lots of artsy skateboards plastered on the walls and there's also art from local artists on the patio outside and in the bathrooms. All in all, a really good spot in Ybor that's a little bit away from the craziness of 7th Ave. but still a fun spot to hang out at. read more

We ended up there to check out the retro gaming night, but it was pretty dead. It did look pretty cool, but we found ourselves chatting at the bar instead of going head to head in Mario Cart. They close a little earlier than some of the other places nearby, but they didn't rush us out and gave us plenty of time to finish our drinks. Plus they had 1/2 price wells so no complaints on price. On a weekend visit to Tampa, we stopped in to grab some lunch. The cool atmosphere, friendly service and great food makes this place well worth the visit. I had the Mediterranean grilled cheese sandwich for $9. Nothing like a traditional grilled cheese, it's served on pressed pita bread and made with feta, mozzarella, olive tapenade, spinach and Portobello. I love feta and olives, so this sandwich was perfect for me. I'd highly recommend it, but just beware as it's a bit strong on the olive-salty taste. Included with the sandwich was a choice between the mixed greens, Asian slaw, roasted potato salad or tortilla chips. I tried the Asian slaw and thought it was delicious with the light and creamy Asian dressing drizzled over the cabbage. One of my friends tried the special of the day which was a jalapeno BLT. The bacon was infused with a nice subtle taste of jalapeno and worked well with what was probably a jalapeno-mayo based dressing. I tried a bite and really liked it, but preferred my Mediterranean sandwich. We also ordered a round of beers from the small selection of local brews. This place is perfect for kicking back, sipping on a drink and enjoying a conversation with friends. I hope to return on my next visit to Tampa. read more

Stopped in with my sister after another event in the area for a quick dinner. The place was pretty busy. Loved the interior decor. I had only been once a couple years ago for brunch, and the inside definitely looks bigger from what I remember. We ordered sandwiches and picked two different types so we could share half and half. I had the Bird & Pig w/ Asian Slaw since so many reviews honored it. My sister ordered the Pacific Rim w/ chips. Service was pretty fast and the food came out quickly. I thought both sandwiches were ok... the Birg & Pig is a pulled chicken & bacon pressed sandwich. Pacific Rim is a pulled pork & asian slaw sandwich. We asked for hot sauce and our waitress brought out an organic sriracha that we'd never had before. Different taste than reg sriracha but very good. All in all, I think this is a better lunch spot, food-wise. They had unique looking drinks so maybe will pop back in for a drink if in the area one night. read more

They're the only place that seems to get the appropriate cheese to chip ratio for nachos, lol, but on top of that the food is really fresh and delicious every single time. We ended up eating here on a Sunday afternoon after leaving a long wait at another restaurant. I fell in love with this place the moment we entered. The music was great. The waitstaff was amazingly friendly. The vibe here is very trendy and chill. They have a nice assortment of drinks of the gourmet variety. They also feature that assortment of coffees and teas in addition to. The food was great. I had the club with the roasted potato salad. I could have that potato salad by itself it was so good! I would definitely come here again during the daytime. My rambling: I'm not quite sure, but I believe they do have a nice life also. I remember coming in here a while back during the evening, but it was too packed to enjoy on that night. I'm also not sure if it was under different ownership at the time. This must be my week to hit all of the funky spots in Tampa. The Bricks of Ybor sits along a quiet stretch of 7th Avenue (La Septima) at the intersection of 14th Street -- just two blocks east of the big wrought-iron Ybor City gate. The Bricks attracts a young & hip crowd, and decorates their eatery with some fantastic paintings and wall hangings (Yup, check out those decorated skateboards!) from local artists. The Bricks is a combination bar, restaurant, coffee house, musical showcase, and general hangout at different times of the day. We were there for a quick lunch, and the wide selection of salads, wraps, sandwiches, grilled cheese, and peanut butter specials had a little something for everyone -- including the breakfast sandwich for the guy in the corner who obviously had a rough night. Our group shared an order of the Bricks Hummus which was outstanding, and then I ordered the Pacific Rim Pulled Pork Sandwich which was coffee marinated slow roasted pork, pulled apart, drizzled with some smoky BBQ sauce, and then served on Hawaiian sweet bread with a side of Asian slaw. Came hungry and left full but not stuffed. The goodness wrap was named appropriately. Hummus with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, feta cheese and I added avocado was very flavorful. No need for any sauce of any kind. Had the potato salad as a side and though it was a bit bland, added a little salt to it, it was still good. Glad they don't add mayo to it and tasted home made for sure. Nice ambience too, decorated for Halloween. I'm not a fan of TV's while dining, but will always give a pass when they have good tunes playing so don't have to listen to TV.
