The Bricks of Ybor is a restaurant, bar, and coffee bar in Ybor City and also has live music and special events at times. It is affiliated with the SkatePark of Tampa (SpoT) which has a shop next door and there are skateboard decks mounted on the walls of The Bricks as artwork and they play skate videos on the TVs above the bar; as I'm a skater myself, this is if anything just the icing on the cake for me. However, The Bricks' ardent support of skateboarding would not be enough to garner a five-star review alone, but thankfully it measures up in all other regards. The interior atmosphere is lively, inviting, and unique. The waitstaff and bartenders are on point, outgoing, friendly, and most importantly, quite prompt. As to the food, it's fairly simply fare but very tasty and very well-prepared. Tacos, a variety of Cuban sandwich variants, and some salads compose the lion's share of the menu. I had the Bird & Pig Cuban sandwich and also an order of chips and queso dip. The queso was especially good, which impressed me because too often things like queso are simply after-thoughts at bar-type restaurants. The sandwich itself was also very good. They have a full bar with a good selection of bourbons and ryes and also an expectedly good selection of beer, with an emphasis on Tampa's local brews. The wine list also looked better than you'd think for a casual bar atmosphere. Overall, it's clear they're investing in quality here. While their skateboarding association was enough to grab my attention to The Bricks, their stellar food and service are what really sets them apart. Ybor has a reputation for food being hit or miss, as is the case with many touristy areas, but The Bricks I found to be simply and casual yet truly impressive. read more

They always seem to have something unique to try! I've been here before several years ago but my last visit was really nice. I ordered the Tasmanian Rice Bowl which comes with blackened shrimp, basmati rice, Asian slaw, and some other stuff I didn't notice, the rice and slaw was the most noticeable element and sesame oil the most noticeable flavor. The shrimp was really delicious and they were huge! I cut them up so they would go further in the rice bowl. It was good, could've used a bit more heat personally! read more

The place wasn't too busy the night we stopped in so we were able to get a table quickly. Lots of interesting sounding cocktails such as the "Tequila Mocking Bird" and "I'm Your Huckleberry" which I will have to try next time I'm in Ybor! Our server was nice. Food came out fairly quick. I've always thought the idea of apple on a sandwich (that didn't involve peanut butter) as completely preposterous, because sweet things do not belong on sandwiches! So what did I order at The Bricks? Naturally, the Bird and Pig - which features chicken, bacon, apple, brie and agave nectar. It was definitely sweet. And savory. And absolutely, positively to die for. I loved every scrumptious bite of it.... except for the dry chicken breast. I'm not sure if it was just old, but either way it was dry and disappointing. Next on the menu was the deluxe grilled cheese sandwich, which was all sorts of yummy cheese, smothering delicious garden fresh basil (wow!), spinach and tomato. The first bite of this sandwich was knock-your-socks-off. The basil really stands out and it definitely warranted an audible moan. The next few bites weren't as spectacular, but I still loved the sandwich. I'd go with the Bird and Pig again if I had to choose. While we waited, we treated our faces to black bean dip (suggested by the waiter) and we enjoyed it. If you like black bean dip, then you'll like this one. We washed all of that down with a glass of liquid heroin, and all was right with the world. The end. Oh, and the service - spot on. The place is cute, the staff is attentive, and it's clear this place easily doubles as a comfy daytime spot and a lovely night spot - if that's your kinda thing. read more

I've been to The Bricks several times. It's a great place to hang out for drinks and their food is solid. Like many bars around Tampa, they've got allsorts of different options to get drunk on. What keeps brining me back is Carlsberg lager. Love that stuff. Their food always hits the spot. It's not five star gourmet or especially groundbreaking, but it is tasty and that is really what matters. Favourite dish: The Cure. Basically a badass egg sandwich with bacon, cheddar and this avocado sauce. So good. Also, service has always been good and the atmosphere is really cool. Give The Bricks a shot. Hi, I hope corporate and management see this message The man who worked night shift and closed. Honorable employee. I'm 22 years old and a mother. By myself on ybor strip and I got mugged. I knew of someone at the bricks but they weren't there, and my phone was dead. This gentleman which I don't know his name let me come in and charge my phone, he did proceed with caution as I'm a stranger with marks all on my face from what happened, but I felt like he knew he had to do something and he didn't have to. This is a truly awesome person and if it wasn't for him. I don't know what would've happened as the cops did nothing but tell me they didn't see it for theirselves so nothing is to be done. My fiancé and I wanted to try something new in Ybor so after the recommendation of a fellow yelper we thought we would give this a try. It was pretty busy when we got there. There was some skater event going on. The bar was nice and they had an open concept kitchen so you could see the food being made. I thought it was very strange that there was a DJ playing rap on a little stage inside... We sat down and fairly quickly we were greeted. Kyle was our server and he was very upbeat and knowledgable about the menu. I ordered water to drink and we got the Bricklayer to start off with. They were nacho layers with cheese, some Avocado type of drizzle, japs and sour cream. They were good but for $9 some sort of protein would have been nice. For my main entree I order the Elvis. Which was pretty good! It was peanut butter, bananas, honey and bacon. An interesting combo but it was good. The fiancé and I ended up switching halfway through so we could enjoy each other's food. I got the potato salad as a side and it was pretty good as well. It was freshly made so it was warm. Different then what I expected but still pretty good. The potatoes did need an extra min or two of cooking. I wouldn't mode going back to try some their of their interesting sandwich combos! read more

This is where the cool kids hang and there's reasons for it. The beer and the food! Tons of vegetarian and even vegan options. I'm not either but I do love that black bean burger and the salads are to die for. The staff is great and always sweet and accommodating. The place is usually filled with great art and an eccentric lot of people. I gave this place five stars because I would be lying if I said I didn't love this place. It's my vibe. I walked into the restaurant and the general scene was promising: a friendly environment with interesting decor like a diner, despite being poorly lit. I ordered the "King Fu pork bowl" and a macchiato, to which the waitress replied that their barista doesn't really make it the traditional way. I still ordered it. The macchiato came first, and to my surprise it was in a mug filled to the brim. I let the barista know that I ordered a macchiato, not a latte or cappuccino, and she said that she knows that, she made a macchiato. After a brief discussion I discovered she doesn't know what a macchiato was. I went back to my table. The food came. The pork was room temperature and the rice was plain. The dish lacked flavor overall. Maybe they don't specialize in rice bowls as it was a smaller item on their menu, but that was my experience. read more

Went here for the first time last night. It was the night of their Christmas party so there was weird pieces of ripped cardboard up all over with funny sayings on it like "Tampa Twerk Team, Don't Kill My Vibe, Hannah Montana" but then there was some not so funny ones like "My Top Hoe", "My Top B**ch). I think those signs were for their Christmas party twerk down because I was watching them put the signs up so I don't think they are there all the time. I just think they should have waited until the kids who were eating at their establishment should have left. We ordered the hummus, beer and shots. The hummus was amazing, it was fresh, the pita was warm and it even came with carrots and cucumbers. The beer was great! They have a ton of choices so you wont get bored! The shots were Jameson and some places cheat you on what you order but NOT here! It was definitely Jameson and it was just right! The place is wheelchair accessible, nice big bathroom, tons of tables and a smaller bar counter that you could pull right up. I used to work half a block away and struggled with not eating lunch here regularly. They have an awesome menu. Never had a bad meal here. I don't eat meat and really like their vegetarian selections. They also have great speciality drinks and a good craft beer selection. My go to coffee drink was the "Skinny Bitch" and no one else can make a drink quite like it. I like that they also have events and music as well as Nintendo night. Yeah, it's a "hipster" place and some of the servers are a little holier than thou, but the food and atmosphere are damn good and I will continue to come here when visiting Ybor. read more

A couple of nights ago the Tampa Bay Lady Bloggers met at The Bricks for our monthly book club meeting. The staff was very welcoming and was happy to push together several tables for us. Our server was so nice and helpful and cheerfully took a group photo for us (annoying bloggers). The "hole in the wall" atmosphere at The Bricks is fun and eclectic, with local art for sale lining the walls. I loved the laid-back, hip feeling of the place. I had the "brick,paper,scissors" martini and it was so refreshing and delicious that I had to get a second with my entree. The table shared an order of the "bricklayer" nachos and they were okay, but the house-made salsa on the side was out of this world. For my entree I got the "bird and pig", based on so many great Yelp recommendations. It did not disappoint with thick, crispy bacon, sweet apples and agave nectar, tasty chicken and delicious pressed "sweet" bread. I almost caved in and got the Ahi tuna BLT because it looked so good on the menu...I'll definitely be back and try that next time to compare. Thank you Bricks for hosting our meet-up. I like this place, I really do. I've really only been here for lunch before, but it has always been a good experience. The decor in here is really fun and there is a lot to look at on the walls. It is conveniently located on 7th Avenue, just a stone's throw from all of the other Ybor eating and drinking establishments. As for the food, I had the greek salad the last time I was here and it was really really good (anytime a greek salad comes with potato salad, I'm in). We also enjoyed mimosas and our waiter even gave us appletinis on him, just from talking to him. They have a great beer selection in here and a unique menu (think peanut butter and jelly sandwiches). I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to check out Bricks of Ybor for myself. Nice atmosphere and hip music playing in the background. I sat at the bar and watched the flat screen televisions (they were playing the History Channel on one TV. & "Shaun of the Dead" on another TV.). Good beer on tap (I tried the IPA -- it was good) and a small menu specializing in appetizers, salads & sandwiches. I ordered the hummus plate and the iceberg wedge salad -- both were delicious. The blue cheese dressing on the salad was particularly scrumptious. For one beer and an app and a salad, my bill came to just under $25 before tip -- kinda expensive (considering they no longer serve the "salmon spread" on the hummus plate -- should that really be priced at $10, still?). read more

I'd been following the progress of The Bricks via their FB page for some time - I'm happy to report that the end product lives up to the expectations (exceeds them, even!). The first thing you notice is the atmosphere: laid-back & friendly, fostering a close-knit/ community feel that encourages you to slow down and linger for a bit longer, enjoying the company. When it comes to the menu, it's full of simple foods that have been completely mastered. I suggest the Peanut Butter Bar (choose your bread, peanut butter, and toppers). The Roasted Garlic Hummus is amazing, as is the Italian Brick sandwich. As far as coffee goes - they won't disappoint, I'm partial to the Brickaccino (frozen coffee). Another standout factor is their beer selection - which alone is worth strolling by for. All in all, The Bricks as a 5-Star stop, you won't soon forget. read more

We were in the area for the Florida Cane Distillery tour and tastings, so we decided to have some food first to soak up all the liquor. There's a parking lot conveniently located nearby. I really liked the look of the place and the local art on the walls. I only had water to drink but I appreciated that our waitress brought me a glass bottle so I wouldn't have to wait for her to come by and refill it. My dad said the iced tea was very good. Three of us had the Bird and Pig sandwich, which is roasted chicken, bacon, apple, brie, and honey, on pressed Hawaiian bread, which was delicious. All of the flavors melded together very well, and the bread had a great crunch. The Asian slaw on the side was nice and light; my brother got the potato salad instead, and that was also very flavorful. My dad had the Tasmanian bowl which he seemed to enjoy very much; the shrimp looked delicious across the table. For dessert, my mom and I split the coffee chocolate cake, which was delightful and I really enjoyed the sauce liberally poured atop it. My brother's open-faced ice cream sandwich also looked good, but I didn't try it. In all, a cool place with tasty food. I'll definitely return next time I'm in the area! read more

We were staying next door at the Hampton Inn and this place was super convenient. They had a nice menu. Loved their chicken B-L-T sandwich... can't remember the name. Love, love, LOVE! This place. It has such a open minded and urban atmosphere. There is local art hung for sale and the staff is always friendly. That coupled with the delicious food makes it a match made in heaven. I am so glad my old job used this place to cater because I can't get enough. I am super picky when it comes to veggies but their veggie cuban is beyond words for me. They also have great mac and cheese. I don't even like mac and cheese and I always make sure to order a side here. I went outside of my comfort zone and had one of their side salads and was pleasantly surprised. My husband has ordered sandwiches with meat here and he enjoys it also. I have not been here for one of their music events but would love to some time in the future. read more

Free wifi and a chill hangout, with a-ok food. I came in looking for a place I could do work and grab a quick bite. The Bricks of Ybor is a great place for that! I charged up in a corner booth, and hunkered down. The service was friendly, and the music was at a low enough level to get work done. For starters, the tables are a bit low for my liking, and require you to hunch over the to eat. I ordered the Portabelly, which comes with a portable mushroom, spinach, roasted peppers and cheese. The sweet loaf it came on was fresh and fluffy, but for the price, I was expecting a little more filing of spinach or roasted reds - it was bare minimum. Hmmm I wonder why I did not see what other yelpers are seeing in this place. We came here on the Superbowl and this place was almost empty. I saw a couple people on the sofa and at the bar but that's about it. I was diasspointed in their food menu....very limited and I had a hard time finding what I wanted to eat at the time. I think I ordered the quesadilla and my husband ordered one of the breakfast. My food was just okay...nothing specail. He said his food was good. I did not get to try their famous peanut butter menu.
