Such a lovely experience at Buttercup Cafe! The service was super friendly and helpful, the speciality lattes were 10/10 and we loved both the Farmstand scramble and the Sunrise Toast. Would absolutely come back to Buttercup again and try more delicious menu items!

Buttercup Cafe is a nice little local stop on 6A in Cape Cod. Since I'm on the Cape, I don't want to set harsh mainland standards - I expect the price to be higher, for example - but how will it measure up locally? Ambiance - 5 stars. You come in to the muffin display. It doesn't look like a lot, but the dining space opens up in back. So you have your choice of a quick pickup or a longer schmooze. Service - 4.5 stars. Friendly, prompt. If there was one thing I'd suggest, ask your guests if there's anything they want. I offered a couple of times - hot sauce please, more water please - but shouldn't have to raise my hand to get those for a true 5 star rating. But it's nitpicky so minimal deduction. Food: Well, it's the meals that set me on 4 stars. The special Benedict was good, but only good. The eggs were done nicely - not totally runny, not totally set. Not a lot on my plate for the money. Wish there were more home fries and more biscuit to contribute value to the order. Maybe just home fries; biscuits are rather plain by definition and these were no exception. As for my friend's dish, the cranberry bread was wonderful but overpowered the French aspect. It didn't really egg up - like, use THIS for your Benedict where I can enjoy some delicious fresh bread. Wondering if they test bake their specials before putting them up to the public - that'd be another recommendation. In the end, a couple of fine tweaks only. And as I saw someone else mentioned... see if you can get real maple syrup on hand. Even if it's an upcharge, it's welcome for breakfast.

What?! I was getting hangry so we just pulled in (really lucky to grab one of the two parking spots in front and no line out the door! Guess everyone was at the beach!). It's small but opens up. Greeted by a smoothie counter and a pastry evil temptation display, you will find a counter and tables in the back. Their specialty is breakfast and sandwich lunch as it is a café. Coffee is decent. But what knocked my socks off was the manager Erica, and their really delicious turkey Swiss and fig sandwich. From the minute, they served it. I looked at my husband and said "oh my God, they roast their turkey"!. They do. And it made me happy. He ordered a Reuben and it wouldn't surprise me if they make their own pastrami. They do. And while some people here complain about their price, giving what they're serving I would expect to pay $11-$15 anywhere for that sandwich. Which I did, for $15 I brought back half of my sandwich - multigrain bread, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, bacon, a nice pile of turkey and fig jam. It hit all the notes! The only thing my husband would've done different with his Ruben was asked for more dressing on the side. He felt it was low on the dressing, but some people don't like their sandwich soppy like he does. Every time somebody offers, housemate potato chips, I go for them. And I'm glad I did! It's clear that the owner takes huge pride in this little hole in the wall breakfast place that is noisy, attracts a cult, serves good coffee, decent portions and food that is very well prepared. If you're going to charge $15 for a sandwich with a side of house made potato chips, this is what you want to be eating. On the downside parking is sketchy. However, there is parking behind the buildings across the street. People just don't want to be crossing the road, but you can find parking back there. The owners would like to put tables outside, but one of the servers was commenting that either the market or dolphin restaurant had a little bit of a problem with them putting tables in front of the property since parking is such a problem, I don't think they want people parking in their spots to come over to this place for breakfast. Not sure if I agree or disagree, but it is tight and I'm assuming that both of those business is also have a lot of people traffic. All in all, I can't wait to come back for breakfast!!!

Randomly stumbled on this cafe and it was worth it! Came in on a Wednesday morning with no wait time. Was greeted right away and staff were very friendly. The service was quick too. Food and drinks were good. So glad the waitress told me about the side syrup for The Frenchy (French toast breakfast sandwich). Such a cute spot!

Stopped by after a 3-hour kayaking trip. The food was so good. It really hit the spot! It was about 1:30-2pm on a Sunday and was a full house inside and outside of the restaurant. We sat at the counter. The food and service were excellent! We took some baked good home.

My husband and I took a trip down to the Cape Cod area, it was our first time visiting. Perfect timing as it was off season and didn't have to worry about the crowds. The morning that we were returning back home, we stopped by the Buttercup Cafe for brunch. My husband ordered the Freshy salad, pretty much a breakfast bowl which he enjoyed a lot, along with the peanut butter smoothie. I ordered a customized omelette that came with home fries. The home fries was slightly disappointed, it was seasoned just felt slightly raw. I also ordered a Belgian waffle on the side. The waffle itself was addicting, loved it. The omelette was fine, nothing outstanding. Service was great, overall we can't complain about our visit :)

I am here in Barnstable during the off-season and it is hard to find good restaurants. Although I did not have high hopes for getting a good breakfast, I had a delightful breakfast meal at The Buttercup Cafe. I believe the commissioners plate, is the best value on the menu. It comes with a lot of food and the quality of the food is pretty high. I thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes and the blueberry muffin the most. I will continue to visit this place for breakfast. read more

This little cafe was a highlight on our road trip thru the Cape! Everyone working there was welcoming and friendly. My wife and I loved our breakfasts, and I've seldom had a better omelette. We spent 9 days in New England and New York and never had better coffee. If you're ever in the area I highly recommend you stop in! read more

What a discovery! Food was fresh and delicious. Service was terrific. I had the turkey, bacon, fig sandwich along with the best warm apple cider. Hubby had a wonderful greek salad. We plan to eat there again on our way back to Boston from Chatham. read more

A friend and I ate breakfast here a few months ago. Our server was pleasant and knew the menu well, since I had a couple questions related to my food allergies. She answered my questions and put me at ease. The restaurant is bright and cheerful and everyone worked well together. Both of us ordered different types of pancakes which were light and fluffy and we had enough to bring home for a second meal. I'll definitely be back and looking forward to trying other things on the menu! read more

Warm and friendly service, delicious food, and comfy seating. We had a lovely family brunch at the Buttercup Cafe and were so surprised there weren't more people at this hidden gem! The staff were attentive and welcoming, and the menu was full of interesting and enticing brunch dishes. There was also a great lunch menu. Great little breakfast place on 6A in Barnstable. Ate outside in front with table service. Great waitress. Excellent breakfast menu. Had a veggie omelette which was good, cooked on the flat top, so not as good as in a separate pan, a little greasy. Home fries were homemade and good toast. Corn muffin was awesome, also homemade. Great place and good prices. read more

Discovered Buttercup a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to come back. Fantastic food. I had eggs beny on a biscuit. Best ever! Biscuit was toasted golden brown, perfect poached eggs and homemade hollandaise, oh my! My server Emma really made my morning. Great atmosphere, too. Sat at the counter to get some work done and stayed for more coffee to relax and catch up on the newspaper for a moment. Highly recommend. I'll be back for sure! read more

DISCLAIMER: I WORK AT THE BUTTERCUP CAFÉ AS A WAITER, however I came in on my day off to have breakfast, and afterwards I decided I wanted to leave my honest review. So here we go.... Upon walking into the restaurant on a semi-busy Monday morning I told my coworkers to treat me like any old customer. I sat at the bar, and quickly was greeted by Samir, who was working front counter and host for the day. Samir reminds me of a hotel concierge from another century. His pleasant demeanor, thoughtful use of language, clean cut aesthetic, and professionalism started my experience on a high note. He quickly made me feel comfortable, grabbed me a coffee and menu, and was receptive and cordial when I corrected him on a small portion of the procedure. Samir is newer at the restaurant than I am and in general is just a great person to have on your team. Seeing him from the perspective of a customer, rather than his co-worker, still it is crystal clear that he is eager to improve, learn more each day, and provide the best dining experience for each customer that he possibly can. Samir is a 5-Star person. After being seated and given my coffee I was given 3-4 minutes to look at the menu, and as soon as I had the thought "okay I'm ready to order", in popped Mellissa, the owner of the Buttercup Café. I have nothing but great things to say about Mellisa. Speaking frankly as an employee of hers, I specifically took this job because I believed in her: as a business owner, as a manager, a multifaceted human with a life outside of her business, and I knew pretty quickly we'd soon become friends if I were to work for her. Anyways she took my order in a kind and friendly manner, and the food came out exactly as I ordered it. How else does one judge the work of a waitress?? (technically she is the owner, but she literally does every position at her restaurant when necessitated). 5 stars. In the kitchen today was Howard, who is as loud and full of character as he is a great line cook. I ordered the "Go to Breakfast" and the eggs were cooked and cheesed to my liking, the sausage patty was evenly charred, the gluten free toast was delicious (especially when combined with the aforementioned sides), and I elected to skip the home fries solely because my appetite didn't require any more food than received. The portions, especially scrambled eggs, are big here. It is important to also note that Howard was being assisted by Darlene, a new line cook at the Buttercup, today. I don't know her involvement in my meal, but if she was involved it's clear to me she has a future working as a cook here or in any restaurant. 5 stars. The food is reasonably priced for the portions, and the quality is great. This is not a greasy spoon restaurant, it is a tasteful, and thoughtful menu designed to provide a great meal to anyone who walks through the door. If I had to make one gripe, it's only that juices are a bit expensive for not having a free refill. I stopped here for breakfast and had a great one. Food and service were wonderful. I had heard many local people speak of The Buttercup as just The Buttercup. Mistakenly in my recent review of it I called it a diner. Whatever you want to call it it certainly is worth a stop if your looking for a good breakfast and friendly people. I haven't tried their lunch yet. If I want to encourage my wife to join me I'd better say, how about The Buttercup Cafe? I liked it. read more

A really lovely little cafe. Staff were incredibly attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. A nice variety of items on the menu, but all crafted with love! I had the Freshy Salad, which was a lovely lighter meal and my boyfriend got the Turkey and Fig sandwich, which he adored. We both had the fresh raspberry lemonade, which is a must have!! The first time I ordered takeout they completely mashed my order up. It was lunchtime and I ordered and ham and cheese sandwich and they gave me a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg and cheese. I told them the order was wrong and they re-made a ham and cheese sandwich with no side (it should have a side) and charged me for it (I paid). The second time we placed online orders to go. Six of them. They were very good, all orders were correct. The two interactions were fine, but I will say, if they want to be a village cafe, they should be friendly and welcoming. That said, we will support them because we live here. read more

The staff were friendly and efficient. But, the food? The food was so good! Wasn't expecting it to be so tasty. I ordered French toast. Others in our group ordered chicken/tuna wraps and fries, of course. Those were all really good. The pancakes were just pancakes. Everything else was amazing. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside and did not regret it. We also bought an apple pie to go. Everyone at home loved the apple pie too. We will be returning when in the area. read more

Yummy food and good service. We will be back! We had the blueberry pancakes with lemon ricotta topping )to die for). The kids were served with kiddie cups of water immediately and enjoyed their chocolate chip pancakes and egg/meat/toast platters. Waitress was attentive and all the baked goods looked yummy....wish we had room for more food, but the portions were large and satisfying. read more

I had avo benedict and a slice of French toast. Food was delicious, came out hot and quickly. They have beautiful case of baked goods - you can get coffee, smoothies or pastries to go or you can sit down and have breakfast or lunch. Super friendly, kind staff. The waitress I had was lovely. They have a diverse menu, something for everyone. Right in the heart of 6a Barnstable. Female owned business. I will DEFINITELY be back and tell my friends to come! read more

I've eaten here a few times and have gotten to try items from both the breakfast and the lunch menu.. so many great options to chose from, you won't be disappointed. The flavor was something straight from heaven. Breaks my heart I'm not local. I'd eat this weekly. All of the staff is always so friendly. We also tried the meatloaf, and it genuinely reminded us of our grandmother's from years ago -- comforting, hearty, and full of flavor. That's not something you find everywhere. Even in the middle of winter, the place had a warm, lively vibe. We ended up having a great conversation with someone we later found out was the owner -- just chatting about everyday life. We also had one of the small pizzas, which was the best thing of the night, crispy and flavorful (with a little char at the edges, which we like). The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. Three stars instead of two here because the pizza was good and the staff obviously care about customers.

We started talking to the people around us and they recommended the Jamaican jerk chicken and oxtail combo. The chicken was to die for and the oxtail rich and gelatinous like it should be. We added a pina colada for an island touch and it was delicious. The most endearing part were the waitresses.. smiles everywhere welcoming everyone.. even though we may not have looked like their normal clientele, they treated us like family. I want to go back and try their fish and chips. I recommend you run not walk to the Island Cafe and grill in Hyannis.

The hostess/ front of house boss, who was operating from the bar of this 10-12 table location, was gracious and endearing (in the way that an almost overbearing host can be- that meant as a compliment). The drinks took a minute, my fiancé's salad needed blue cheese brought out as it was left off (single most off-putting thing: the waitress, I suspect language mastery being the cause of this rather than malice or willful deceit, flat out told her that blue cheese did not come with the wedge salad...but when boss lady at the bar was asked, this was quickly corrected), there was a heavy does of reggae music. All of this less than optimal. The food was very good, though I can't remember off the top of my head what I had (it's been a month). Nor did I take pics: it seemed like it'd detract from the experience. There weren't any complaints about the food from others. (So I went back and looked at the menu: potstickers as an app- pretty good; baked local seafood as the main- good, but it is what it is in that not a ton of nuance added so as to let the seafood do the talking. The portion was decent for the price. I didn't leave stuffed, but for $38, very reasonable.) All in all, the first visit merits a second visit next year (as the website says they are temporarily closed to seek new management).

The environment behind the counter was less than unpleasant, with a noticeable lack of cleanliness and professionalism. The food I ordered was far from appetizing; it was unpalatable and left much to be desired in terms of quality and taste. It's disheartening to see a place that neglects both its customers and it's employees. I believe it's essential for businesses to foster a healthy and respectful atmosphere for their staff. I do not often leave reviews but I felt like I needed to for the Buttercup Café Absolutely loved my first visit to Buttercup Café! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the warmest smiles by Emma and Maddy, who were not only incredibly friendly but also brought such a cheerful, welcoming energy to the whole experience. They made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time! The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, clearly made with love. From the perfectly brewed coffee to the mouthwatering main courses, everything was spot on. I am typically not a person to ever give a poor review but I am absolutely disgusted on my experience here. I am a mother of three and I understand that alone is a lot to handle, but when we went into The Buttercup there was too long of a wait due to them being understaffed. I was completely understanding and didn't mind the wait but the owner of the establishment continued to give us aggressive attitude and was rude to my kids. After our 45 minute wait we were seated and again the owner was nothing but rude to us. Completely disregarded all of my concerns and my children's allergies, and for the cherry on top my food never came out. Instead of taking responsibility she blamed it all on the kitchen and made a remark to me about how I shouldn't be going out to breakfast with kids. All in all terrible experience and terrible way for an owner to treat their customers. read more

I visited The Buttercup Cafe with my family and we absolutely loved the place! It was super busy and the staff handled it like champs. We were seated immediately and were greeted by our server who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It was hard to choose between breakfast or lunch because everything looked so delicious. My kids chose breakfast and my wife and I chose lunch. We could not have been happier with our choices. Everything came out very quickly despite the restaurant being packed. We were so full from the huge portions that we didn't have room for the desserts. They looked so good that we got a few to go. We were glad that we did. The lemon square was my favorite. We also loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. It was very clean, warm, and inviting. Buttercup Cafe is my favorite place for breakfast and lunch. I have been hooked since I tried it two years ago. I brought my out of town son yesterday for brunch and we both were very happy with our meals, the server and the hostess. the owner is hands on and always finds time to greet customers with a friendly smile. i have brought several friends and family members and it has become a favorite for many of them. their menu is varied and appealing with many choices and it is always a treat to find something new and always delicious. read more

I have eaten here a number of times as I'm local to the area and i can say that every time i eat there the food is incredible, the atmosphere is amazing and everyone is very happy. I have eaten here a few times for breakfast and lunch and I try to have something different each time, but the Monte Christo keeps calling my name. The fruit cup is crunchy and fresh as you can get, the pickup is quick and easy, and the atmosphere is friendly. One of the times I was picking up lunch was the same time that a few other groups also decided to show up with me.
