We had the best experience at The Capital Grille in Honolulu! The ambiance of this new location is beautifully appointed and the design of the lounge/bar area works so well with the dining area experience. From the moment we walked in and were welcomed, the staff made us feel like we were special. Immediately we were introduced to an incredible, professional server named Keola Lum. He took excellent care of all our needs as he guided us through the superb menu. Keola made the ordering experience very personal and adjusted it to our individual tastes. The atmosphere of this location has over-sized large portraits of Hawaiian royalty by the artist Bartlet. Our server was well versed in the Hawaiian history and personally took us on a journey through the past. Now, the absolute highlight of the entire dinner was the food! I love the laid back 50s and 60s music!. The ambiance is sophisticated yet not stiff or overly formal. Our waiter Rafe was knowledgeable and seemed to know exactly when to come by our table, which was perfectly situated near the door and in a corner since my husband is in a disability scooter and we had his service dog with us. I had the filet mignon and ordered it rare plus but it was actually medium rare. My husband is an executive chef so he agreed with me as did Rafe our waiter. Next time I'll order it rare. And speaking of rare we ordered the mushrooms as a side dish and they were Raw as in crunchy. Rafe replaced them with well cooked mushrooms which arrived almost too late. Although cooked well they had no seasoning whatsoever. I would suggest adding Thyme Salt and Pepper at the very least. My husband had the phone in ribeye which was much more flavorful than the filet mignon. That is likely because of the cut as the ribeye has much more fat to carry the flavor and Seasonings. Next time I'll order a New York steak. The wine list is very impressive as is there wine section of the room. They also offer personalized lockers should you prefer to bring your own wine as a regular customer. The potatoes au gratin were amazing!! Our waiter says that some people order a glass of wine and the potatoes and share them as a snack in the bar. It's their most popular side dish Because it was my birthday they gave us a mini cheesecake and the mini flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Both were delicious. First of all, going West on Ala Wai, turn left onto Kanekapolei then go slowly or you'll miss the free valet parking on the right about 200 feet before Kuhio. (Bring an umbrella in case it rains because it's not covered and not attached to Capital Grille.) It's a bit pricey but well worth it. Service is outstanding and everyone is super friendly and welcoming.Our waiter Alan was knowledgeable and fun. The food was excellent. We had the lobster/crab cakes which were great! Our entrees were filet mignon (one with lobster) and the bone-in ribeye. Recommend that you get the lobster. All of the sides were delicious also. We had the truffle fries, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. For dessert we had the likikoi sorbet and cheesecake. The cheesecake was done like crème brûlée which was a nice touch. Nice that they gave us a dessert sampler for our birthdays but got it after we ate the desserts that we had ordered. That was fine since we brought it home. Loved it. We live in the neighborhood and we eat out daily. I'm happy to drop $100/150 PP for a meal and I love this place. I dropped 200PP on each of my visits and no complaints and we just had standard app, entree, dessert and glass of wine each with one coffee ....that said as a resident of the area to make this weekly or regular spot (which I'd love) they should offer Kamaʻāina or happy hour for locals perhaps. I'm not cheap when it comes to dining out but $400 for a couple for a standard dinner is a bit steep. It'll be great for special occasions but if they had some sort of menu for the bar lounge area I'd be here every week. read more

Didn't make reservations since it showed a lot of open times in OpenTable app. Caesar's Salas was average, 22oz Ribeye Steak was a little bit on the rarer side of medium rare. Celebrated my Birthday here. We were running late but they were okay to change our reservation time even on a busy Saturday night. The staff were all very nice. They wished me a Happy Borthday. We had calamari which was very tasty and spicy. The crab and lobster cakes was one of the best that I ever had. Daughter had the seared tunawhich was very tasty. Wife had the porcinni bone in ribeye, very good also. I had the hand cut bone in new york, I order some sauces on the side but ended up not using it after tasting the steak. It didnt need anything it had enough flavor. Dessert was cheese cake with some berried, it had a nice crust on top that you could crack. They gave me a birthday dessert with flour less chocolate cake, mini cheese cake, and some berries with whip cream. What stood what the most about their food was the portions. They were all very generous. The place is a little noisy but its okay since it makes it feel like everyone is having a nice time. Our server was Makana and she did a great job. Recently dined with my company on December 6th. The did well with making sure that we were taken care of! The food was delicious, I was a bit skeptical Because reading the reviews had me worried but I was pleasantly surprised by the result. We started with the calamari and it was 10/10 and as for the main my husband ordered the ribeye as I ordered the sea bass and both were so good! The ribeye was tender (we ordered medium) it wasn't bloody at all. The sea bass was my favorite as the fish basically melted into my tongue the miso butter was so flavorful. If I'm gonna be honest I'm not a steak connoisseur so I can't really say their steaks are one of the best lol but all and all, don't read too much into the reviews because my experience was definitely a good experience from the servers, to the ambiance of the restaurant, the food and desserts. I would say this place is a more high end spot as they do have dress codes to follow but I would definitely put this as a great date spot if you wanna impress someone. read more

My husband wanted to go to Capital Grill Waikiki, for his birthday, as he had read that this restaurant chain was "top shelf". I made the reservation a week before and we arrived 10 minutes early. We waited for our table to be ready and I was surprised that they put us in one of the side rooms....which I didn't like. Our waiter was awkward and apologized at the very beginning......said they were still "working the kinks out" with the opening of the restaurant. That did not make me feel confident that we would be having a five star, dining experience. For starters, the restaurant was out of the 12 ounce and 14 ounce, New York Strip Steaks....in addition to the salmon. This is a steak house! Also, the waiter said that his favorite dessert was the Coconut Cream pie.......they were out of that too!! We ordered our dinner and enjoyed the Caesar and Wedge salads. I ordered the 10 ounce filet mignon and it was tough, dry and overcooked (I asked for medium rare).....not at all what I had anticipated. I should have sent it back, but didn't want to wait 20-25 minutes, while they cooked another one. On a positive note, the sommelier was articulate and knowledgeable...and we enjoyed talking with him about the different wines and wineries that he had worked at. Another asian waiter with spiky hair, was quite good also.....bringing our food and explaining what everything was and answering questions. We did like the dessert that my husband received for his birthday. It was a nice presentation and tasty. Overall, it was a disappointing evening. For the amount of money that we spent, we should have been thrilled at the entire experience!! I don't think we will be back, as there are many other fine dining steak houses in Honolulu. read more
