Drunk Oh, Chart Room. If I was a local, I don't think I would go anywhere else. I always end up at one of three bars, no matter how many times I try new places, I always return at the end of the night. It's not fancy, you don't come here for snobby $15 cocktails (I'm talking to you Carousel Bar). You come here to have cheap drinks, enjoy some smokes, and best of all no judgement. True what most people say. This is your no thrills type of bar but the drinks are SUPER affordable! And when I say super affordable, I mean it! My husband and I ran into some friends from our hometown while in New Orleans and decided to get some drinks. We bought the first round of drinks here and was surprised when the bartender told us our total for FOUR drinks! We ended up paying what we normally would for TWO drinks in CA. Totally shocked! Our drinks weren't watered down either. Definitely had a punch to them. But also like what others say, don't expect anything fancy. After 4 frigid days without power or water, we were able to get out of Texas and take a hot shower in New Orleans. Our last visit to NOLA was in November and there were not too many people in the French Quarter. We need to support the NOLA hospitality people. New Orleans is coming back. This is an absolutely perfect neighborhood dive bar. Not as sketchy as some on Decatur and elsewhere in the FQ. The right mix of locals and tourists to keep things interesting. The Chart Room is exactly what I expect when walking into a Quarter bar off of Bourbon: it seems small but is deceptively large. It's dark. It's been there for 19364562 years. It's divey. It has no pretenses. It's full of locals and tourists who have been tipped off by locals. By the time I arrived on a cold Thursday night, the bar was full but not bursting at the seams (that was coming). Despite the amount of people, I was able to sidle up to the bar and get waited on very quickly. My bartender wasn't new at the game. She was smiley, called me 'hon' and had the time to make small talk about the people who lived above a bar and complained about the noise* -- all while making two drinks, keeping an eye on the bar and having a sense of what was playing on the TV around her. Like I said, she wasn't new at the rodeo. After I picked my jaw off the floor for paying $11 for TWO drinks (this is how it should be done; always), I scooted across the way, collapsed into the bench across from the bar and proceeded to catch up with my friend. Even though the bar was full, she and I were able to talk with each other without screaming. Even as the bar became packed, we were still able to communicate without yelling at one another. As anyone who has spent years of one's life in a bar can tell you, such an occurrence is not common. It is to be savored and I did so. The apparent cramped quarters caused more than one drunken idiot to bump into our table and spill a drink on me. Not only did my bartender yell at said idiots but she offered to make me a new drink (on the house)! Buoyed by her disgust at the stupidity, I declined the offer but thanked her for it. I had a flight to catch in the morning and I'd done more than my fair share of drinking for the day. A quick trip to the men's room (surprisingly clean yet expectantly graffitied) and a kiss good night to my gal pal and I was in the wind. Very nice people ... got me right ... a normal $42 cost me $25 here. There were no restrooms on the entire canal street for some of reason and I lucked up on this place. They allowed us to use the restroom for free but I just had to buy hot because they were soooo nice. read more

The dive of dives! It's always crowded because of where it is. The bar is always sticky and they only take cash. They have a few TVs so you can watch the Saints or whatever other game is going on. They also have a good jukebox full of classics. My suggestion, grab your drink and keeping walking. read more

If I could rate this place with 0 stars, I would. Went in with my friend so she could have a drink. I was done drinking for the night, but we're in NOLA, so I'm still partying. Was asked by the bartender "what are you drinking?" I told her I wasn't having anything, but my friend was. (Looks at said friend) "you?" My friend wasn't sure what she was ordering yet as we had just walked in and told the bartender that. Apparently it wasn't okay with the bartender that I wasn't drinking, and my friend wasn't ready to order yet, because the rude bartender then told us we needed to leave. That's okay lady. We stopped in this afternoon, per hubby's request, for an afternoon drink. This is a dive bar, for sure, but the ambiance is fun and inviting. The drinks are affordable and well crafted. A dive bar that feels more like a family room with all your favorite family members. Julie, one of the baddest bartenders in the city, will make you feel welcome no matter where you're from. Tip: it's cash only, but they have an ATM on site. I love the Bloody Mary, but make sure you read the room before you order. If it's packed during Mardi Gras, just keep it simple, yo! The Chart Room is at its best during the daytime. The big open widows keep the breeze flowing through and let the sun hover just within arm's reach. At night it is pitch-dark, so you miss most of the charm. $3 Abita bottles. Nice. A unique jukebox full of music more than 30 years old: not much classic rock, but a lot of old r&b and jazz with a lot of New Orleans flavor mixed throughout. Possibly the best place in New Orleans just to sit and chill for an afternoon. A big thank-you goes to Sheila the bartender, who saved my buddy's weekend after he lost his wallet Friday night. He spent a very anxious twelve hours not knowing where in the entire Quarter he may have left it. But it turned out that Sheila had found it, called in one of his credit cards, and kept it safe until he could track it down and come to claim it. Actually we showed up before the bar opened the next morning, and a tall male bartender was very helpful to us as well. So thumbs up for the staff of the Chart Room taking great care of their customers beyond just providing drinks and good company (which they do brilliantly too). read more

French Quarter must stop for: Strong pours, affordable premium booze, fun and chill atmosphere. There's a good mix of both locals and tourist, young to the young at heart. We came here after roaming the streets for a bit during our visit for the French Quarter Festival. By then, we were in need for a drink and not one of those fruity, sugary hurricane drinks, either. We wanted the real deal and a place to really kick start our engine. Despite that there was a good crowd of people, we got in an order pretty quick. There were people coming and going and manage to score on seats for both of us. Shortly after, we easily got situated and started to enjoy our time there. Music was good and wasn't excessively loud to where you couldn't hear yourselves talk. Seats are spread out without cramming the place; you could get your dance on, if you wanted to. It's a cool local bar and nicer than those hole in wall ones, though far from being upscale. I'd say it reminds me of that part in Goldilock's story. Ya know, that whole too this, too that. Hung out here before the Twelfth Night parade on Friday. I was told that this is the cheapest place to get drinks in the quarter. I had a couple of rum and coke's and they were strong. There were some guys that were really excited about the football games and were shouting, because, let's be honest, folks *have* to shout when they talk football. Clean bathroom.
