I've had The Chicken Koop on my bookmark list since my family purchased an investment rental property in the area several years ago. One of the first things I did was Yelp places to drink and eat, and this business came up with many positive reviews and yummy pictures. Although I never got caught up in the riptide of Nashville style hot fried chicken sandwiches, I was always a fan of fried chicken in general. Would I venture back into this koop or be chicken to do so!? First time here and I must say I was very impressed with the food. Just came in for a quick bite. Had the grilled chicken sandwich and garlic fries. The bread is delicious and the chicken was perfect. The sauce that they put on top of the fries was amazing as well. Prices were reasonable and staff were so kind. I'm not a foodie. I'm not a harsh critic. Until I have to be. If you're coming to a specialty place, that food should be out of the ordinary. It really wasn't. I ordered a chicken sandwich with the chipotle sauce on the side (I don't like soggy sandwiches so I add it as I go). It also came with no cole slaw. I was starving so I dug in without it as the waitress never came back. It was a cross between Chik FilA & Popeyes. Ordinary. Small. Pics make it look huge. It was good our server was AMAZING super sweet and friendly! Consistently came over and asked if we were doing okay and if we needed anything (but not to the point of overdoing it). The only thing was we came seeing they say they do bottomless mimosas Saturday and Sunday and when we asked they said they do NOT do bottomless mimosas. Mimosa Kit ($22) is the option if you're trying to do multiple mimosas it's one bottle of champagne and two juices of your choice. Food was good nothing to go crazy about. Until you walk in and sit down and review the menu, you wouldn't expect some of the food being served here. Very good food! I've had hit or miss with service. But for the most part, I have been treated pretty good. When they get slammed it takes a toll on the servers and your unlikely to get repeat visits to the table or refills or just a simple being checked on. But when they are not slammed, they check on you, refill, really take care of you. I've had various items here , all really good! I wish they had more help so that I could go on a busy evening or weekend and really feel taken care of. If that happened this would be top notch! read more

I didn't consider myself a big chicken fan, but this place takes chicken to another level that now I say I am . All of their side sauces for the various chicken dishes are excellently flavorful. One of my favorites is the taco sampler for under $15. You get four huge tacos which includes a Baja style and Tinga style taco. They are all delicious. You will probably need a doggy bag--like I said, they are huge. The roasted chicken is moist and very flavorful, especially with the added sauces. The sandwiches and all of their sides are excellent also. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The ambiance is kind of casual and artsy. Yes, they can make chicken artsy. read more

Place was pretty nice inside. A lot bigger than what it looks like from the outside. Service was excellent, our server was really nice and thorough. My last review was years ago... so here's an update. Went today for lunch and was so happily satisfied. I had the wonton loaded nachos with their regular chicken option. I typically don't like yellow cheese on my nachos but these were so good! I had the mini portion and finished the whole thing. (See picture) I also had a virgin michelada. It was a lot better from what I remember their micheladas use to be. (A lot of garnish and little flavor) My friend had the chicken wrap and fries, and was also very satisfied. Here is what we ordered: - chicken whole- good skin flavor but bland meat, I guess that's what the sauces are for. -Sauces: chimmichuri has a great kick to it, the chipotle sauce is sweet and good, and of course the garlic spread is yummy! - Sides: the fries are sooooooo good. Typically when cold fries aren't good anymore but because we dilly dallied while eating, by the time we ate the fries it was cold. But it's still good! I haven't been to the Chicken Koop in a few years and I've been wanting to go for a while now. My boyfriend and I got the loaded nachos and they were really yummy! The chips are really unique and good as well as the toppings they add to the nachos. The restaurant offers many deals throughout the week which is great because we were there on a Monday and their happy hour is all day. The garlic chicken plate with great. Chicken is juicy, brussel sprouts are crunchy and nicely fried though a bit oily. Thai sweet chili sauce and chipotle were a good combo but I feel like I should have opted for a habanero sauce to cut through some of the fat. Chicken is extremely juicy and nicely done the plate has half dark meat and half white meat which is also great. Spicy popcorn chicken is actually spicy. Been coming here for a couple years now and it's my go to spot for chicken tenders. The size of the tenders are pretty big for what you'd imagine. I've tried the hot, side chick (sweet/spicy), and original. The side chick beats all the other flavors out by a mile. The tenders are dry-rubbed so the flavor is experienced on every bite. Combo the wings with the chipotle dipping sauce and you have a chef's kiss reaction. The also give you a generous portion of French fries so that's a plus. For about $15 it's a steal and no brainer. I generally get my food to go and the service has always been great and friendly. The few times I've dined it in it was nice. Servers are friendly and they have TVs in there so it's a casual ambiance. read more

Haven't been in to The Chicken Koop in sometime so decided to stop in at the uptown Whittier, had been craving the teriyaki chicken bowl. Went in and a young man sat us quickly. The cute, young red head waitress approached us and took our orders, she was very nice, explained the alcohol choices and a few food items. I ordered, you guessed it, the teriyaki bowl, and my guy ordered the chicken and waffles; a beer for both. I went into the restroom to wash my hands and they are unisex... and disgusting! I only went to the one, they have 2 (YUCK!!), one of the workers should really tend to them. The meal came and I asked for Saracha, none!! Guess due to the shortage. They did have a mild green sauce which looked like avocado, delicious but the chicken was dry..My guy was picking at the chicken that did look over cooked and way to crispy, i asked how his chicken was and he said "dry.." The convenience of this place is that it's walking distance! The staff here is awesome. Always nice and cheerful! The food has a lot of flavor. I'm not a Big Mac N Cheese fan but this place makes it cheesy and creamy. Best I've had in town. The micheladas are refreshing, not sure if they use olive juice or not but it certainly gives it a different, yet good flavor. The buffalo wings and the chicken pozole are my favorite. The buffalo wings come with the perfect amount of sauce and spice. The pozole caught me off guard... did not expect it to taste that good. I only like homemade pozole but this one was close enough and did justice to my craving that day. My bf had the Side Chick sandwich. Perfect blend of sweet and Spicy. Time to head over to an pretty decent restaurant called The Chicken Koop in Uptown Whittier. It knowned for like everything that have chicken. I walk inside and was greeted right away and was seated right away. For lunch... I got the Taco Tuesday deal... $10 for the taco sampler (1 of each kind of tacos).... Fish style, Al Pastor style, Chicken Tinga, and Roasted Chicken... That's 4 tacos. All tacos have chicken in it. The first two I have which was Tinga and Al Pastor style was very good. Very flavorful. The roasted chicken taco was a little dry. Not very much flavor in it, but the side sauce I got added an little more flavor to it. The last I had which was the fish style was also kind of dry. It was an nice try though. Service was great... I didn't have much to say though. I will come back here for some other chicken items, and I will update the review in the near future. For now it's an 3 stars. read more

They delivered fast service, the gentleman who served me was pleasant and friendly, his name was Marco. At first when I got my chicken sandwich it was extremely dry and the garlic French fries were cold, I called Marco over and proceeded to let him know that my food was cold and dry, he apologized and said that he will have them remake the food, he also made a little joke about the chicken being tense, I thought it was cute! We've been wanting to try this spot and just had the opportunity to. The wait to be seated wasn't bad, the waitress was very friendly and started so strong. We ordered drinks and the food arrived and the drinks were still not at the table. Until I asked about them a couple times she brought the waters and we were pretty much done with our food when The hibiscus (alcoholic beverages) came to the table. The food overall was good. The empanadas were a little dry. The taquitos were delicious with the habanero salsa. Both chicken plates were yummy so was the sandwich. We've really tried to support and explore local businesses during these strange times. The Chicken Koop and their friendly staff have provided us with many a chicken meals throughout the pandemic. My favorite deal is their whole chicken where you get another whole chicken at a discounted price. We also pay the upcharge for garlic chicken. If you love garlic, you will love this chicken. The house made sauces are great. If they know it's your first time, they may let you try a few extra just so you know what you'll like next time. read more

This was our first time. Probably won't be back here, as there were flies buzzing around. In addition, we asked for three extra sides, which was two ranch and one barbecue, and we were not told that this cost extra. Okay, that's fine; however, the sauces were brought to us 10 to 15 minutes later, and we were almost done with our food. The sauces were super small too. The toilet was overflowing and the floor flooded. Overall impression was just a filthy and not clean place. In the picture, these ranch and barbecue cost $1.00 extra. Our waitress brought these out to our table toward the very end of our meal, yet we asked for them way earlier. We ended up not using these sauces since we were almost already done with our food. When we asked for a refund since these sauces took so long to come out, the waitress took the sauces back off the table; hopefully she did not use them for someone else. It seemed like she was just taking them back to the kitchen. Maybe she threw them away. Who knows. Usually when a refund is asked for, the waiter or waitress just leaves the sauces on the table and they'll throw them away later. The food and drinks are so good I totally recommend our waitress was so sweet and helpful. The prices are very reasonable especially for the portions that are given. The drinks were made really good and they have a good selection of drinks. Try the jalapeño and mac n cheese it was really good.
