Let's get the good out of the way first, because it starts to go downhill from there. The chicken tenders are great (juicy, crunchy, robust chicken flavor). It reminds me of the kind of chicken that you get at a Chicken Express or a Golden Chick restaurant. (see pics of these moist tasty morsels) I wish I didn't run across a small piece of gummy cartilage in almost each tender, but because of the taste I'm fine with letting it pass. Service was pretty good. I'm usually a little awkward when ordering at a new restaurant, and the staff was patient with me while I stumbled with my selection. The bad... The atmosphere... ok, I don't use the word sterile too much in these reviews, but this place is the very definition of that word. I couldn't help but feel like I was in a hospital. The only decorations they had in the lobby was one lonely plant (probably fake), a neon Blue Bell sign and a large sad pixel-ated company sign. I guess they're trying to create a strictly To-Go location, because the store doesn't feel welcoming / warm / comforting at all. It just feels cold and soulless. The sides that I had (mashed potatoes and mac'n cheese) were almost generic. If I ever go back I'll probably try the potato salad. And the rolls... they tasted like the rolls you purchase in the deli area of your local grocery store (I was thinking this then my girlfriend asked me if it's possible that they bought these at the grocery store, so I wasn't the only one thinking this). If you like these types of rolls, you'll love em (for me, I love buttery soft rolls like Golden Chick). I'm sorry, but other then the chicken, I don't see what everyone else is raving about. Ordered through door dash, they left out half my order. I called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone was clearly irritated that he had to try to find my order. We love The Chicken Place. Their chicken is great, it doesn't matter if you get the fried chicken or the chicken strips. I took the family there yesterday and we got the 30 tender family meal. It is so much food we always take home 12-15 of the tenders and some sides. My wife and I have 3 kids and 2 of them are teenage boys who can eat. The 30 tender meal comes with 3 family side, 8 rolls and a gallon of tea. We took home plenty of food and those boys have been eating all day. One of the other chicken restaurants around town has a 30 tender meal only comes with 2 family sides. They have good chicken as well, but when we eat there we will go home with no sides left and only 4 or 5 tenders. Which to us makes The Chicken Place a much better deal, and cheaper over all. This was my 1st visit to TCP. I was excited about going since I drive by every day. While I was standing in line the employee at the register decided to pick something out of his teeth with his finger, while I was looking right at him. I was going to walk out, but my nephew said I was being dumb. He's a teenage boy. He didn't get it. I was hoping he was only working the register. But after I ordered, he started preparing my plate. I was disgusted. They brought our food out to us in a timely manner. The food was just ok. It wasn't very warm. Room temp mashed potatoes are not great. The drive thru menu board is currently blacked out - apparently they had some recent electrical issues - so the employee walked out to my car with a laminated menu to help me decide what to order. He was super nice. I got some chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The chicken is tender, and the breading is thick and crunchy. The mashed potatoes were good, as was the gravy, though the gravy was extremely hot. The mac & cheese was flavorless. The roll was good, especially dipped in the gravy. We used to love this place but when we visited recently they were out of rolls so I asked if they would substitute the rolls for something and the young man just rolled his eyes, snickered and said " no, well maybe gravy". Rolls and gravy are my favorite so I just politely said no thanks and left. We would have ordered our families meals if it weren't for his attitude. The best chicken around no doubt. Not the cheapest place but still very good and we are always willing to pay a little more for higher quality. Usually we get the family chicken meal and they don't have enough chicken pieces to fill the order but they make up the difference by adding tenders which is fine by us! I had 4 strips with fries, a roll, and a side of white gravy. The gravy blows; It's completely tasteless. BUT the fries have that extra crispy coating on them and the strips are huge, fat chunks of chicken with a light, crispy coating and mine was cooked to order. However, the coating was also kind of plain. It wasn't spicy, nor did I taste spices. So your children will love it because there are no weird surprises. We gave The Chicken Place a go during its first week. I've gotta say, it looks like giant toddlers with Lincoln Logs erected this place - it looks like a good wind would knock it down! Nevertheless.. I had a chicken breast, okra, roll and iced tea. All of it was hot and tasted fresh - it seems like so many places these days leave their fried chicken under a heat lamp for hours. The Chicken Place served it up fresh, hot, and juicy. The fried okra was really good, too - it hadn't been sitting on a steam table all day. And the roll ROCKED! Absolutely the best fried chicken and homemade sides ever! The previous reviews from 2010 was probably when they opened and didn't have all the kinks out. In 2011, the service and food is perfect. The owner, Scott is usually around giving a hand and over seeing everything. I had a two piece dinner with broccoli rice casserole and fried okra and a roll. The chicken is cook perfectly. It's tender and piping hot with the perfect outer fried crusty skin. Broccoli rice casserole is just like how Grandma made it in East Texas. Okra is perfect. The cream gravy they serve with them is a nice compliment. If available, I'd probably give TCP a 3.5 rating. Ten months ago, it would have been perhaps a 5. When we discovered this place, we came several times and the food was very good. Now, it is definitely hit or miss. One time you go and the chicken pieces and side dishes are good sized & plentiful. Then the next, scrawny chicken and sides....and the sides seem to change in taste (good, bland, too salty, etc). I'm not ready to give up on them yet, but our visits will be less frequent, which is too bad, as we try to support smaller businesses. read more
