Absolutely absurdly delicious chicken! I have been searching for a new chicken place which actually serves good chicken and my search has ended. Specifically this location by Hedrick School puts other places to shame! It is not deep fried crunchy chicken like you would get at Popeyes (gross) but rather delightfully lightly breaded and seasoned thoroughly. Chicken is moist and tender. The wings are huge and a small order is plenty. Love the variety of sauces and the homemade ranch is addictive. The including Voo Doo, a perfect balance of heat and sweet. Really great fried chicken! And their fries are good as well! This was my first time here. Everything came out piping hot and tasty. The basket comes with coleslaw and two sauces so I tried their ranch and honey mustard. The honey mustard is more honey-heavy than mustard, so it is not the sauce for me. Their ranch is light in flavor and different than most ranches I have tried, but tasty. May be a repeat. When I come back, which I will, I want to try the other sauces. This little eclectic string of shacks is making some fresh, crispy, crunchy chicken creations. I'd been hearing about them on social and hadn't had time to check them out... so Today was the day! Pretty sure they hand batter their chicken and the seasonings were killer, fried hard and just right with your choice of sauces (good ranch, awesome honey mustard!). The coleslaw was pretty good but got warmed up from the other hots in the box (not a huge deal), their fries were the super crispy ones and not the cheap, little greasy ones. Their bone in wings are just as crunchy and seasoned just right and you can mix and match your sauce and dips. We waited longer than expected, but weren't in a hurry and we quickly found the wait was well worth it! This chicken was juicy and freshly made to order. I got the 3 spicy tenders with fries, slaw and drink for just under 17.00 with tax. The fries were nothing spectacular. The girls working were very polite and happy and helpful as it was my first time eating at this place. Must be a family owned business only in Oregon as I've never seen one in cali. The ranch dipping sauce was ok but homemade would have been soo much better. The spicy hot honey infused with chilies was amazing and added great flavor to the chicken. I also tried the garlic Parmesan sauce and wasn't at all a fan. They were happy to sub another ranch to replace it. They have many other sauces to choose from as well. Now for the spice level. The chicken is not spicy at all in my opinion. The flavor was good. The slaw was just ok. Now for the chicken turds. When I seen the name I laughed. Who would name a cookie that? Surprisingly it was really good. Tastes like a chocolate chip macaroon. What I didn't realize was this is a food truck with just one picnic table to eat at. No place to wash hands before you eat. Would be nice if the other place closer to the highway stayed open later. The surrounding area seemed to be not the best part of town. Several shady people walking around. I had to update my review on Chicken Shanty because they have totally redeemed themselves! I should have done this a long time ago because I left them at 3 Stars for way too long. Sorry guys! They definitely changed their chicken strip recipe not too long after my last review 2 years ago. I kept going back for the fries, the sauces and the awesome customer service. I gave the strips another go and was sooo happy! I usually stop by the location inside the mall or the one off of Crater Lake Hwy, occasionally on Jackson st. I've never had a bad customer experience EVER and that is worth noting for sure! Sometimes you have to wait a bit but it's not too long and it's always worth it for the hot and fresh food. Went to The Chicken Shanty this evening. This was our first time. Unfortunately I can only give it 2 stars. Our meals were not even warm, ordered strips and crispy chicken sandwich. The breading on the strips fell off somewhere between the fryer and the container. Pictures and videos show two pieces of chicken on the sandwich, I had one small piece that didn't not even cover the bun. It was obvious that our chicken had been sitting for a while as it wasn't even warm. Fries were so greasy as if they too had been sitting for some time. We want to support locals, but they will have to step it up a lot. Additionally, all of our chicken was very dry and had white spots as if they had been freezer burnt. They have amazing hot chicken now! It's dry rubbed spicy chicken in the style of Prince's hot chicken in Nashville. For $14.99 you get three pieces plus their delicious french fries and a soft drink. I took the meal home and put the chicken on some toasted hamburger buns that I had bought separately, plus mayo and pickles. There's enough here for two people, plus it comes with a small side of coleslaw and your choice of sauces, including hot honey. 10 out of 10.... highly recommended! The prices have gone and the quality has gone down. They used to have real good nice big chicken fried chicken strips. Now they use smaller size chicken strips and they no longer are chicken fried.
