The quality of the food is what gives this place the five stars. I had the cod plate, and the scotch pie with tartar sauce and curry sauce. At first, I thought the prices were a little steep until I saw the quality and quantity of the food. It was well worth it. The only thing I could recommend for this wonderful little place is the ability to keep your drinks a little colder because the bottled water got lukewarm very fast. The restaurant has four tables, but at least 20 bar seats along the interior rim. If you are handicap, you might want to make sure you get a table because the stools are a little bit high. Excellent fresh fish & chips, completely fresh battered fish the only complaint is when I got my food and was no tarter sauce on the platter, I asked for 2 tarter sauces, cost me $1.00 per container. The container were very small. Not worth itcfor a dollar each. didn't complain, but the tables do have free ketchup and vinegar, but they don't offer the tarter for free?? I understand that it's homemade, but come on..cost me 21.00 dollars for the meal, not including the $2.00 for the tarter. Excellent meal but a little over priced. Have a couple of suggestions Lower your prices (not a lot) Include the tarter sauce with the meal And include a couple of slices of lemon. I will return, but I'm bringing my own tarter. We just used our fingers since that's how we ate it in England, no plate but wrapped in newspaper. The Chipper has salt, malt vinegar and ketchup on the table. The portion is large enough to share. We've gotten the halibut but will try the cod next time. I like the fact that the vinegar is in a shaker bottle and not little packages. The oil is definitely fresh, which is extremely important with fried foods. The potatoes taste fresh, not frozen! The price is in line with most restaurants. Prices have definitely gone up everywhere.We will definitely go back again! By the way the tables are not sticky as has been stated in other reviews and are cleaned with a sanitizer after each use. Literally THE BEST fish and chips in Texas. This is the closest it gets to eating at a restaurant in Britain. Fish is never frozen and comes in fresh daily which is why they always sell out. They serve both Haddock and.Cod - both taste fantastic and fairly similar but faintly different. I cannot recommend one over the other. Try both and decide for yourself which is your favorite. I have not tried their other foods so I cannot comment on them as I come here specifically for the fish and chips. Avg price is $17 and the fish is large. Very Authentic, we tried the haddock and chips and the cod and chips and both were great. They had vinegar and salt on the table which was a plus. The black pudding was also surprisingly tasty. The bathrooms were just a single use for male and a single use for female, which for a place this size doesn't seem to be an issue. Magnolia's loss . . . is Katy's gain. (This business relocated from the former to the latter.) This is a fantastic outpost for British fish and chips, using fresh (never frozen) cod and haddock, served in authentically large fillets, with totally authentic British CHIPS (never to be confused with french fries!!!!). Radio Aberdeen plays in the background, so you almost think you are having a "fish supper" in Scotland's Granite City. The "Lorne Sausage" -- which could be described as "battered and deep-fried meatloaf" -- is worth a try, as are their Scotch Pies. The service is friendly, and the owners are "hands-on" in the kitchen. I have visited it at least thirty times since they opened just a year or so ago. No other eating place in Houston has seen me darken their doorways more than a half-dozen times . . . so that tells you something. It is mainly because the fish is so satisfying as a quick meal. Quite why fish of this quality is not purveyed EVERYWHERE . . . . . well, other than the price point (which is still very reasonable) . . . . . it's hard to know the reason. Fish is cooked to order, so, at busy times, it will be worth calling ahead to minimize waiting. They welcome BYOB. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I never managed to visit The Chipper when they were in Magnolia, and so I have been looking forward to the somewhat shorter trek to Katy since they moved there. And given that I rarely look forward to a trek to Katy, that, in itself, was a novelty. First impressions: nice interior - mixture of 1960s diner and British greasy spoon cafe (except much cleaner). It's a limited menu - but it's got the important things on there for someone who grew up in the UK eating fish and chips most weeks: cod, haddock, a few pies, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. It would be nice to have the option of some gravy, but now I'm getting picky. We sampled the cod and chips, and the mushy peas and curry sauce. Cod was strangely rectangular-ish in shape, and lacked real flakiness, but it tasted okay. The batter was a great color but it didn't really have any taste, and it felt as though it got heavier as we ate it. Full marks for portion size though - the fish hung off the edges of the plate like a fat man in a twin sized bed. Chips were fine. I prefer them to be a little crispier, but they weren't soggy, which is the main thing. Peas and curry sauce were good, but expensive at $3 for about half a cup. Including two bottles of Irn Bru (ask a Scot for an explanation...), the price for two cod and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce was just under $50. Overall, the fish and chips is better than anything that I've found at any restaurant in Houston (in fact, I've given up trying - the disappointment has become too predictable). However, it's probably not good enough in its own right to tempt me back to Katy. read more

Have visited twice now. Once dine in and once take out. What I like- -Both times fish was excellent. I would have preferred more seasoning on batter but serving size and crispness were on point. -Chips(fries) also good but not salted. Not a problem if you know ahead and put salt on as soon as served while it will adhere. -Portion size and quality of fish is excellent. Pretty pricey but worth it for the haddock. Costs me almost as much as a low quality drive through these days so don't mind paying what they are asking. -Friendly staff and polite What I don't like- -The wait for food to be prepared is long. Not too bad if you're the only customer but quite a wait if others are ahead of you. I like it freshly cooked so I'm not opposed to waiting. Just be prepared. -No complimentary tarter sauce or water. This really irks me..give 1 with meal and charge for any extra requested. I don't mind paying the price for meal but don't be cheap..include a tarter sauce and if someone asks for a cup of water, provide it. I was told politely by the young man behind the counter that they didn't have water available for customers. BS..but then wanted to purchase a water bottle but since I'd already paid for my takeout over the phone because they won't make unless you pay when u order(understandable), I couldn't because it wasn't over $5. Great product and super nice staff. They're a little expensive but the food is 100% worth it. We tried both the cod and haddock with chips and the mushy peas were delicious. Their tartar sauce is amazing compared to most in the area, and the curry sauce was good too but definitely expensive for sides of sauce. I've never been to Great Britain but seems to be fairly authentic to me! There's just a few tables and a bunch of counter seats so be patient if you're eating there.
