    Burrata cheese salad
    Melissa R.

Our favorite restaurants are byobs as we love to bring our own wine, so The Choice seemed to fit the bill. Plus, we were going with friends who had been there before. The restaurant is located on Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, and we were able to find free parking in a nearby lot which beat city prices. The place itself is fairly nondescript and on the smaller side. On a Friday night in November, all the tables were occupied. The menu at The Choice is fairly extensive although I had a difficult time deciding what to order. We shared the burrata cheese salad which was good especially with the prosciutto. The dorado with baby vegetables was interesting with the potato fish scales but just ok as was the chicken teriyaki. Overall, the food was good, but I was longing for some ambience. We ended up walking to a cool restaurant/bar up the street which delivered just that.

    Chilean Seabass

I went to The Choice for date night. The servers were friendly. For appetizers, we ordered the terrine of foie gras, pan seared foie gras, and the lobster ceviche. I thought the pan seared foie gras had too much sauce on it but otherwise, all apps were good. For the entree, we ordered the duck breast and Chilean seabass. Both were good as well. For a side, we ordered the cream of leeks. I wanted to try something I wouldn't normally try. It was ok but maybe next time I'll order a different side. I would come back again to try other items on the menu. Everything on the menu looked good and I was sad I couldn't order everything!

Two of us recently had dinner at The Choice. For appetizers we tried the field green salad and the tuna tartare. Both were excellent. For mains we had the Chilean sea bass in miso and the 1/2 duck with orange-caramel-coffee sauce. And both of these were excellent. The plating was beautiful. The service was friendly and attentive. The decor is nice - cool lighting, art on the walls. Prices are appropriate. Chef is very creative.

The Choice is the perfect date night spot. We were able to get a reservation on a week night fairly easily, especially earlier in the evening. The hostess was friendly and the service was great. We started off with the scallops and octopus. The scallops were delicious although I think the dough, while fun, takes a little bit away from the lovely texture. The octopus was amazing and could have been a meal in itself. I could eat that dish all day. We shared a buratta salad which was very light and nice (see pictures). The halibut almondine was very light, which was quite nice after such a flavorful set of openers. Next time we come we will definitely be bringing a bottle of wine as they're BYOB. This is a fantastic place to go for date night or when parents come into town. ;-)

The sea bass with truffle broth

It is a fabulous BYOB. Everything from the staff to every dish was top notch. We were a party of 2 and had the lobster ceviche, the tuna rice cakes, the wagyu dumplings and the Chilean sea bass with truffle. All of these were out of this world. Will definitely be back to try some more of the very interesting menu.

Covid t/o. Too pretty to photograph in a takeout box. Here it is plated at home. Fillet mignon mashed potatoes and green vegetables

This review for this very fine restaurant is for takeout only. I discovered The Choice during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020 as wonderful place for Interesting takeout options and also because I wanted to support local restaurants As they navigated that maze of COVID-19 in 2020. It soon became a weekly stop until the summer. I resumed takeout due to Covid-19 in January 2021 still wanting to support restaurants during this hard time. Like many before me I discovered The Choice offers fine European inspired appetizers and entrées with a Fusion flare. I've ordered takeout about 15 times since March 2020 and every time my apps or entrées have been securely, packaged in sturdy, compartmentalized takeout containers. These containers allow for a nice presentation and garnishments which certainly Isn't an expectation during Covid but it is a happy surprise. The Star of the Takeout Show for me has been the filet mignon. I love it ! Dumplings with beef and foie gras, Yellowtail Sashimi, Shrimp salad and duck confit salad Are on my list of faves too. One of the great things that The Choice has done has been to implement their $15 special weekly 3 course menu. Yesterday I had the crepes stuffed with chicken and creamy mushrooms delivered curbside. Once home i tasted tender crepes with finely shredded chicken accompanied by a creamy mushroom sauce. What a perfect duo. I know I was smiling with every bite. My side was mashed potatoes with very fresh potato flavors and asparagus grilled to perfection. The staff are warm and friendly and ensure that your takeout is carefully and securely packaged. The entire operation is well managed. One of these days I'll stop to actually dine in. Its a BYO !!! In the meantime rest assured I'll be ordering at least weekly for a long time to come.

The best food on the Main Line. We have been at least 6 times since February and it has been perfect every time. Being a BYOB is a plus.

From the moment we sat down, it was clear this wasn't just dinner -- it was an experience. The bread alone was award-winning quality. The squash harvest soup was absolutely amazing -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It was a five-course meal, and every course delivered. The cheese and cherry ravioli was an incredible sweet-and-savory combination that had me savoring every bite. The roasted duck had unique, complex flavors and was definitely delicious. I also tried a bit of the shrimp -- even though I passed most of it off -- and it was excellent. And dessert? I don't even know exactly what it was, but it was outstanding. What really sets this place apart is the full experience. We were given a tour of the property and learned about the incredible history of the building. Barry, our waiter and tour guide, was absolutely incredible -- attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the restaurant. The private tour and the information he shared made the night even more special. We also had the privilege of meeting the owner and chef, Brondo. Everything about La Locanda Del Cavallo is on point: Great service Great atmosphere Great people Must-try food While the food was fantastic, the entire experience is what makes it truly unique. You may have to fold your mirrors in to hit cars, I'm not exaggerating. I had envisioned a larger restaurant but this was small with maybe 7 tables. We sat at one with padded wooden benches that was comfortable. We were the only customers when arrived for lunch. The menu is limited and the waitress was as authentic as the food. There were some lunch specials posted but we opted to try three things: mushroom cheese bread, potato pancakes and the blueberry pierogies. The pierogies were definitely handmade and on the larger side as soon as you cut it open, the blueberries rushed out. There was a sweet sugary sauce on the top. That was unexpected. They were served cold and not warm. They were sweet. There were two of us and we each were only able to eat one of the six that came in the order. The mushroom cheese bread was drizzled with ketchup, which was unexpected that cheese was melting and gooey. Our favorite item was definitely the potato pancakes. They were cooked to perfection and the sour cream was the perfect condiment. They do have limited drinks here, including bottled water, cans of Pepsi and diet Pepsi, and some unique bottled drinks like birch water. The biggest drawback for the spot was that I just didn't think it was as clean as I would've liked it to be. It is authentic and as you eat, there is a man in the back that you can see making pierogies by hand. I'm glad that we tried this, but I'm not sure that I would return.

Set into such a cute background it's hard to pick apart the scenery. I met my friends and we sat in the lounge area. It was comfortable, cute, we loved it. I settled for the yoshi drink (it was matcha based and quite amazing!) my friend had the rotary which he said was great as well. We ordered a hodgepodge of appetizers and food to share amongst ourselves.. the oysters were good, they were small and didn't really justify its cost. Smashburger was exactly that, nothing mind blowing or memorable about it and we had no complaints. We got the focaccia with whipped ricotta and honey. But out came a focaccia with tomato sauce on top and Mozerella. We had to ask the waitress about it who replied the kitchen may have updated the menu and substituted that in its place... I don't know what your thoughts are but whipped ricotta with honey is not even in the same category as a glorified pizza cheese bread and our bellies really didn't want this imposter of a plate. But our waitress had it corrected. When it came back out we were met with the whipped ricotta and honey with bread which was great! But it wasnt focaccia... disappointing but if the menu was going to state focaccia than focaccia is what should be served not the sourdough bread we got.... So sad! their charcuterie nachos board was to die for, the meats sliced perfect and olives that were so fresh, it came on a board with beautiful presentation. We ordered cheese fries too but that was mediocre at best. We were there for a while so more drinks ordered. We had to send a rotary back because it was definitely not made with woodford reserve and had some other drink mixed into it. My friend had an internal meltdown because it was soo bad, accidents happen at the bar so our waitress personally watched the bartender remake it and it came back perfect and all was right with the world again for my friend... Now off to desserts. We had the 17 layer chocolate cake, the upside down pineapple cake sundae and the butterscotch pudding. The best one out of all of them was the butterscotch pudding. The upside down pineapple cake sundae was meh.. and Mabel's should just take the 17 layer chocolate cake off the menu. I was offended for the ambience to allow a cake of that caliber to be served there. It was dry. It left our mouths feeling like we bit into sand after each bite. The chocolate frosting also felt like it was a rolled sugar after thought. Had the texture off marzipan and lacked taste. It was disappointing I think we wanted to cry.... The chocolate shavings they had on the cake for presentation was dry and showed visible signs of age. Like they had rolled the shavings days before and put it into a tub to use throughout the week. We made it through some of the cake by spooning the upside down pineapple cake sundae into each chocolate cake bite.. All in all the vibes is cute but the food did not hit like we wanted it too. My recommendation to the restaurant is to revisit the menu and personally taste it and be very honest with the plate and ask themselves if the bite matches the mood of the restaurant and if it doesn't take it off the menu and replace it.... The goal is to keep and retain customers so they continue to recommend and recruit more people and for this place it should start with being proud for the food being served and the accuracy of the quality of the food.
