For me a truly great dining experience should feel like an adventure... I want to be surprised... delighted... both in taste, presentation and in concept. I love contemporary, ambitious, creative dishes with bold and daring flavors. With that in mind . . . The Choice in Bryn Mawr... it is actually owned and operated by Ukrainians... they have some materials posted in the restaurant about how to help. It made for a more emotional night. We chose the soft-shell crab, Chilean Sea Bass with Truffle Sauce, Duck Canton with Caramel-Coffee Orange Sauce, Stewed Creamy Leeks, Chocolate Meltdown and Pecan Pie. Everything was beautifully plated and extremely delicious... not one mediocre bite! If I could give this place a Michelin star I would! Service was attentive and paced nicely, not rushed but not ignored either. Portions are on the small side... especially for the entrees. It is a small place but feels modern and contemporary without being stuffy or pretentious. I loved the beautiful artwork on the walls. If you are covid-conscious though, I wouldn't go here... no masks and tables pretty close together with no outside seating. Overall, a stellar and extremely memorable dining experience! read more

Did someone have a sale on salt? Virtually every dish was marred by too heavy a hand with the salt shaker. Even the perfectly done salmon had a huge cheap glop of brown overly salty teriyaki sauce on top. The artichoke appetizer was a salt lick. This kind of salt behavior is bizarre for an upscale restaurant. I'm still giving them three stars because the salmon was a perfect medium-rare, clearly grilled with expert care. $$$$ read more

The Choice in Bryn Mawr is my husband's and my absolute favorite restaurant in the Philadelphia area. The food is always fantastic and no matter what we order we are always delighted with our delectable choices. The servers are also always efficient, happy and polite. We live close by so order out too. But going to The Choice is an experience not to be missed. We can't wait to return. We give The Choice 5 ***** and would give more stars if Yelp allowed it! My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner on. Friday night. The ambience is great and the decor inside really reminds you of an European cafe. The staff was super professional and very friendly. They gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and decide what to get. We ordered the duck confit salad to share, which was really good! The duck was cooked really well and flavorful. The salad wasn't drowned in dressing so you could actually taste everything. It was a bit sweet for our taste but overall still a good dish. For entrees, my husband got the short rib and I got the wild caught sea bass wrapped in potato with creamed leek and red sauce. My husband liked the short rib but thought the portion was a bit small. I really didn't like my sea bass. The whole fish was wildly under seasoned and the creamed leek/red wine sauce mixture really didn't go well with the fish. It also had a weird texture, which made it difficult to eat. Overall, I really liked the place itself but the food was disappointing even though we had to pay a decent amount. I would recommend for someone who wants to try new things and maybe order something that's not a sea bass? read more

Wonderful place! I categorize pricey restaurants (this place is on the high end of my usual spending) into three bins: (1) overpriced, (2) the price is high but it deserves to be high, and (3) life-altering (they could charge whatever they want). The Choice fits squarely in category 2 - a decent-sized check but worth every penny (plus, the fact that it is a BYOB with no cork fee takes it almost out of the expensive category). OK, enough about the price, now onto the food! This was a Friday night and the place was full (good thing we had reservations). We started with the salmon carpaccio, which was the weakest item we ordered, but everything after that was spectacular - sea bass, duck, filet mignon all prepared with confidence. The service was friendly and responsive. The space, while on the small side, did not feel cramped nor was it too noisy. Plus, I only learned by reading @jasmine K's review just now that it is operated by Ukranians (bonus in this tumultuous moment). It was our first visit and we were very impressed with all aspects of dining. The ambience was modern and cozy. The service was very nice, efficient and attentive. The taste of the food was AMAZING ( we ordered Burrata and Beet Carpaccio for appetizers (and received a little introductory compliment from the kitchen which was VERY YUMMY! thank you so much!), Duck and Chilean Seabass with miso sauce and Apple Pie for dessert. Every dish was VERY tasty and had their own unique flavor. Dishes were big in portion size and beautifully presented. Our waitress Irina had nice and warm attitude and was very helpful in recommending good match of sides to the dishes. Price wise it's very adequate to the quality of the food and service. And saving on the BYOB option is also helpful : ). The whole experience was very impressive. We were visiting the area and unfortunately can't enjoy this place as often as we'd like to, but every time we come back we'll definitely be here for sure and recommend everyone to visit this wonderful place. We accidentally ended up at The Choice. We sat outside as the sun set and was greeted by Liz, an amazing 11 year old, wise beyond her years, daughter of the owner of the restaurant. She was better than any waitress I've had in a very long time! We started with unique artichoke/ crab dish, onto a duck foie gras prepared to perfection and a duck breast dish that was unbelievable! In trying to decide where to have lunch on a very hot and steamy 4th, my husband suggested The Choice, a restaurant we've meant to try for months. Wow, I'm so happy we finally made it to this small restaurant, conveniently located in the heart of Bryn Mawr! "The Choice" is a perfect name as the wonderfully varied options on the menu make deciding on your "choice" of what to eat an enviable dilemma. We shared the beef and foie gras dumplings, tuna bruschetta, chicken skewers (w/spicy Peruvian seasoning), and the shrimp salad. I could go on and on in describing the deliciousness of each dish, but suffice to say that every single bite was perfect. The only problem we may have on our next visit is forcing ourselves to try other wonderful sounding options on the menu as it is very tempting to just repeat today's order over and over again. Finally, our server was lovely and patient (as soon as I learned she was Ukrainian, I had to share photos of our dear family friend who is currently in the Ukraine w/ the Peace Corps!). Came here a few weeks ago for a date night. The ambiance was quiet and cozy. Tuna tartare came out compliments of the chef that was so delicious and a nice start to the meal. We ordered the salmon tartare which was a large portion with great flavor. My husband and I then shared the duck and black miso cod. The cod was the best I've had!! So much flavor. So, the food was very good, I'd give this place a 3.5 rating if I could. The service was ok, they brought 3/5 entrees and brought the other 2 meals 4 minutes later. For the prices they're charging, all of the food should be coming out at the same time or at least within a minute or so. The weirdest thing about this place was that for a birthday, they play Happy Birthday through the restaurant speakers! It's awful and feels so out of place, for a relatively expensive restaurant.
