Has to be the best fried food in the boston metro area. Tried the clam strips with fries and coleslaw. Out of this world. Perfectly seasoned and well balanced. Nephew wanted lobster roll and thoroughly enjoyed it. I asked for a bite after he had half of my fries. No go. Will get a payback from uncle next time. Parking is a big issue. But plenty of options if you are willing to walk a few steps back and forth parking in the backroads. All that fatty fried food will burn for sure. read more

I have been going to the Clam Box since I was a young child. I have always loved the Clam strips. I went there yesterday and was not disappointed. The Clams were crisp and delicious. My wife had the Whole clams and she enjoyed them just as much. The fries had a little to be desired. They were a little dark and soggy. It appeared the fryer hadn't been cleaned recently or the temperature was too low when they were cooked. Even with the bad fries I highly recommend the Clam Box. read more

First and foremost, fantastic name. I usually stop here for lunch if I'm on my way into the city. The place gets very busy during the summer since its right across the street from the beach but there is always enough seating inside or outside on the patio. I usually get the tuna club and it is phenomenal. The sandwich is large and the fries are excellent. They hand cut the potatoes and fry them fresh to order so they are always hot, fresh, crispy and delicious. I have also gotten the calamari before and it was very good too. My fiancee introduced me to the Clam Box a few years ago and it is now my go to place for my frequent seafood cravings and need to be on the shore. I used to head all the way to the north shore for my seafood fix, but the Clam Box has changed all that! From the amazing full belly clams, to the fish, the sweet scallops and the yummy shrimp (they take the tales off - BRILLIANT!!) we always leave happy and full for not a lot of coin. Best tartar sauce I've had in a long time and love that I can have a tiny wine to wash it all down with! Dammit - now I've gotta go there this weekend! Absolutely delicious! The seafood is so fresh, perfectly battered and fried without that heavy / greasy feel. Best onion rings around. Super quick service, friendly and professional with the best atmosphere. Nothing better than enjoying this food on the beach, or on their patio or inside by the window seats with a gorgeous view of Wolly beach across the street. I live right down the street from the clam box, I come running to the box when in season. When its closed I have serious cravings. My favorite place to eat by far. Phantom Gourmet was impressed and so am I! My favorite is the classic fish and chips. Even though everything else there is great too. In the summer the line stretches out the door, the long lines speak for the food. The service is excellent, not to mention the ocean view is something you cant beat. I bring my family here when they come to visit me. You can sit on the patio drink a cold beer, eat good food, and watch the sea, okay by me! Its really hard to mess up fried seafood. That being said the food here is great. I'm a fan of almost everything on the menu, and they give you super large servings. We had heard great things about the Clam Box from a women I work with so we decided to give it a try. Oh my goodness was it delicious! For the longest time I couldn't find a good place for whole belly clams, I sure found it last night. The clams were huge with tons of flavor, they weren't overly fishy either. The batter they were fried in was light, not the normal heavy greasiness you find at some places. My boyfriend got the fried scallop plate and was in heaven, they were huge. We ended up sharing because it was too good not to! We will be going back for sure before the summer is over! read more

My mother and I were looking for a great clam plate and we found it at the Clam Box. We split the whole clam plate and it was plenty of food for us to split. The clams were fried to perfection and the french fries were great as well. We also got a bowl of clam chowder and it was really thick which is just the way I like it. The line was going out the door when we got there, but it moved quickly and we had a food in no time. With seating inside and out there wasn't a wait for a table. I can't wait to go back! read more

Scallops that melt in your mouth like butter, clam strips that make my mouth water just thinking about them, fish that's so light and crispy you would think the best chef in the world prepared it for you and now let me talk to you about the out of this world fries, onion rings and mouth watering cole slaw to die for. Nope I am not associated with the Clam Box but have been a customer since they opened the doors in the 60's and they just keep getting better. My husband and I live close by and consider this one of the major perks to our neighborhood . By far the freshest around. The lobster bisque was insanely good and the clams can't be beat. Yes we like this place in the Summer. The outdoor seating is wonderful and the scenery on the Wolly Beach is the same. Food is exceptional most of the time depending on crowd. They are not in a hurry, don't get me wrong but they get tired surely. Be prepared to wait at least 15 to 20 minutes for your food and perhaps 10 to get waited on but get a beer and tag team a seat (they are rare and go quick) and relax for a while. Woa... I never write reviews. But I felt the need to do so. My mom is a diabetic who had eye surgery recently. Because she is a diabetic she has slurred speech. Being a former manager myself I feel as though the manager poorly handled the situation. She went here last week and wanted to order a beer and couldn't see the menu that well because her eyesight is very bad due to diabetes. She ordered a bud light which she had there before and assumed it was still on the menu. He then proceeded to embarrass my mother who is in her 60's for the record in front of other patrons and his staff by telling her loudly for the world to hear that her speech was slurred and that she looked like she had been drinking and that he didn't want to serve her. Yes of course her speech is slurred she's a diabetic!!! Now because she's a diabetic people are going to assume that she is drunk. I'm sorry but did he actually smell alcohol on her? No he didn't. She is foreign and has a bit of an accent so I don't know if he couldn't really understand her because of this. But he handled it very poorly. You don't embarrass a woman in her 60's like that . He then proceeded to tell her he never said her speech was slurred and that she looked like she had been drinking as if she is stupid and didn't know what she heard. He embarrassed her so badly that she got to the point that she wanted to the police to come to giver her a breathalyzer to prove that she wasn't. The management should be a lot more careful in these situations. This is considered to be "defamation of character". read more

Although I live on Quincy Shore Drive, I will never go back to this awful restaurant. I assumed that a fish restaurant would know that shrimp should be deveined before being fried and served. The french fries were so greasy as to be inedible. Although the patio was open, the sand had not been cleared away, so it blowing in my food. This restaurant is simply awful. Quick, simple, and delicious beach food. I was impressed with how tasty the crab cake was. Delicious lobster roll and onion rings too! Wollaston beach doesn't have the best "crowd" but if you can look past that and just want a nice plate of food and a cold bottled beer, this is a great go to. read more

On a Saturday about 3 PM. the order was taken by a nice young girl at the counter. The order was done in a reasonable period of time. Your number is called and you pick it at the counter. This a self service eatery so you also get your own napkins and tartar sauce. We ordered a medium size fried clams with the bellies. In my opinion, these were just mediocre. We tried to order pickup for 15 min but the phone just kept ringing and ringing. Hung up with them and called Tony's and on the second ring they picked up and our food will be ready in 20 minutes. What a waste of money. We went at 2 pm so there were not many customers in the restaurant at the time. I ordered the fried clam belly platter and my son ordered the broiled scallop platter. First the french fries tasted like they had been sitting from the lunch rush. My clams were extremely crunchy and over cooked. But the worst experience was the broiled scallops, they were white, no seasoning, no butter and rubbery. Both our coleslaw orders were warm. The girl taking our order was rude and seemed a little perturbed that we wanted something broiled stating it takes at least 20 minutes. Who in the world broils a scallop for 20 minutes? Their is not waitstaff but the young man cleaning up was nice and polite and did a good job. This is the second time I tried the Clam Box the first time the food was a little better, not by much, so we decided to give them another try at a slower time. For the price $20.00 a plate plus tax and drinks this place is not worth it. It is obviously living off it's glory days. I had better fried clams and broiled scallops at the Olympian Dinner for $5.00 less and no one was rude to us. read more
