This place has a few problems: the Dr. Pepper was flat, you have to walk passed the cashier to see what the menu items are and then come back to the cashier, and the clam balls were really greasy and tasted like they were made with stuffing from thanksgiving. This is the better of the two seafood places along Quincy Shore Drive by a mile. Went upon the recommendation of a coworker. The place was packed on a Friday afternoon with a line extending outside the restaurant. Ordered crab cakes. They were full of taste with mozzarella cheese, lemon juice, and visible crab - wonderful! All of the food was great. The staff is also very nice. Sat inside where it was cool with a great view of the bay. Will definitely be back! read more

Went to the clam box today after a long time! Forgot how they give more fries then fish! Quick service if you get there early, otherwise expect a long line! Great view of the water! You can sit inside or outside! If you bring your dog, grab one of the outside tables! Parking across the street near the beach! I ordered broiled fish one time and it took forever! So i literally live down the street from here. and i've been going there every summer for iunno how long....i just never got to writing a review...There really is no place that serves as good as fried seafood around the area. Service is pretty fast even with the line out the door sometimes during the middle of summer. Parking....good luck finding it...with the people crowding the beach. Food wise, all the seafood is good, if you want to try everything i suggest the seafood plate, getting a mix of clam, shrimp, haddock, calamari, smelt with sides of fries and slaw. The onions are great with the light battering where as others do the heavy beer battering. The lime-ricky is a must if you don't plan on buying a alcoholic beverage.... Seating is pretty spacious especially when it's nice out and everything just does take-out and brings the food to the beach front. read more

Definitely love this place! This is definitely my go to place for fried seafood. I usually get one order of fried clam strips and one order of fried scallop. After every time I come, I start craving the food again! Theres parking in the back as well as all the parking on the beach. Really crowded on weekends. Price is reasonable. I dont understand why this place is so packed. The seafood platter is big but quality of seafood is not good. The cole slaw is the worst slaw Ive had. They forgot to put cheese in my turkey sub. I have been to the Clam Box twice. It was fabulous twice. With inside and outside dining, right across Wollaston Beach, they aim to please. They have a garden salad with lobster for $19.99. My first visit I asked for a Greek salad with lobster. (Not on the menu) They charged me .50 cents extra for the Feta cheese. I received a HUGE salad with what looked to be half a pound of mostly claws with maybe a touch of mayo. The lobster was tender and sweet. The beer was sooo cold and yummy! My second visit, last week Thursday, was with two guests from Chile. We shared two salads with lobster, one garden one Greek; a fried seafood platter and extra fries. Between the three of us we could not finish. It was delicious!! Accompanied by ice cold beers, sitting outside, on a perfect summer day, after a few hours of walking through Harvard. View is the best in Quincy! Food is consistently good with big portions, but it ain't -exactly- inexpensive. Market price, though, so it's fair. Great beer selection and free refills on fountain drinks means you won't ever be thirsty. Food is made quickly, too! I don't understand the hubbub about this place. We ordered fried everything (French fries, kalimari, shrimp) which was maybe a mistake on our part but there was no flavor in the seafood itself. The portions here are outsized and the vibe is appropriate to its location. This is fast, greasy food by the sea. Clam chowder, fish n chips, and all the usual suspects, but nothing that'll wow you per se. The place is a throwback, with gaudy plastic backlit food signs. Delicious fresh fried seafood, served promptly with a smile. The sea scallops are juicy, light, and succulent. The fish tastes as if it just left the ocean, jump into the fryolator and onto my plate. And the clams are crispy, soft, and fried to perfection. The onion rings are an absolutely fresh and batter fried, it reminds me of those awesome onion rings at Revere beach. Have to admit today's plan was to travel to Kelly's in Revere for clams,traffic along Revere beach was a nightmare,haven't been too many good beach days.Did an about face headed to Belle Isle,parked in front to find they just closed. Option 3 , head closer to home to Quincy to the Clam Box.Anyway, turned out to be the perfect choice,though their was a long line ,it moved at a steady pace.Two orders of whole belly clams plates for my wife and I made it all worthwhile,clams were perfectly fried,crispy and sweet as were fries and onion rings.Now its officially summer.Nothing better than sitting outside at the beach on a warm summer evening!! read more

I highly recommend the crab soup and the fried oysters. The crab soup was bursting with flavor and sooo delicious! The fried oysters were tender and tasty with a really good tartar sauce on the side. We just sat and looked out at the ocean, drinking some Coronas, and snacking on fresh seafood. Life doesn't get much better than that! Waitstaff was super-friendly. WE have been wanting to go here for a few years but never get up north. The line is fun as you talk to the other people and it goes by fast. The food is average..make sure you ask for your fried foods to be well done. We did not know to do that and it was a little mushy and gooey. Ordered a clam roll... Order comes up and the waitress pushes my order forward dislodging a very large clam off the roll and onto the floor. The waitress response? "Sorry" . This was a $14 roll with clams so large there were probably only 14 on there. So, at a buck a clam I believe the correct response is "sorry we will make you another right away." Probably the most overrated seafood place I've ever been to. It used to be worth the ride, talk about going downhill. The clams which they used to be famous for were fried in burnt oil, the French fries were probably fried in the same manner. The line was long and service was slow . You would think there would be more complaints but with most of the people in the area are stoned on weed how would you know any better. This place sucks. read more

I've found out that the Clam Box has low prices and my experience over the summer thus far is higher quality of food. I've had their scallops, and fish sandwich which i thought were both were good. We've been fans of the Clam Box for years. We had family in town so we took them for a late lunch. Three of us had fish that smelled like ammonia. (We googled this and apparently it's a sign of decomposition). My husband took it back and received some attitude from the staff but they did agree to make a fresh batch. Everytime we visit my brother-in-law talks about "eeking" about their fish and chip plate, or their amazing cheeseburger plate. I absolutely love their fish and chip plate with three sides of tartar sauce :) Although they are closed during the winter time, we patiently wait through the winter just so we can have their food during the summer time. It could get loud and crowded when its busy, but I think my brother-in-law's eeking (a.k.a excitement of the food in the clam box) says how amazing the food here truly is. read more

My gf is obsessed with this place and I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty darn good. As far as fried sea food places go this is a great stop and eat place - their fries are amazing and so are the fried scallops! Whole belly clams are amazing too. My only complaint is that when you order fried haddock/fish and chips it's one giant piece of fish instead of it chopped up into smaller pieces as I expected. It's really worth going here if your in the mood for fatty, delicious food, with extra tarter sauce!! read more

I can not say enough about our experience here today. My husband and I had our mouths watering for seafood at the Cape, then got caught in traffic around Weymouth. We detoured and found a few nice places to spend the day. Then hunger set in, We placed our fate in our GPS and I randomly picked a place to go, on our way back north. I chose The Clam Box. We loved the indoor and outdoor dining, we chose inside. Windows were open, ceiling fans on, very comfortable. I ordered the Scallop plate, my Husband the clam strip plate. When we got our food shortly after ordering the portions were amazing. very pleased with our food. The breading on the clam strips was flavorful and not heavy. My husband had to share with me to finish, and we did not feel full or bloated after eating.. Cole slaw also was a great portion and sweet like we like it. My Scallops did not disappoint. they melted in my mouth. I just sat there after the first one, and smiled and thanks my GPS for getting us here, as we were so happy with the food, and the view of the harbor. So we still had that "beach" feel. The manager had a great personality, and helped to keep the dining area clean, and was seen wiping down trays, which was nice to see, that he took an active part in the "small not so fun" parts of the business. I told my husband I had to let him know everything was amazing. and I did. I let him know it was our first time even though they have been around since 1968 I think. I can see why. If you are in this area, they are not far from the highway, get off the exit, and enjoy. read more

The Clam Box is excellent. When I see some of the reviews that bad mouth this place I wonder what the motives are. You get what you pay for and if someone thinks they can eat better seafood for half the price then either go there or just stay home. The portions are huge and the quality is tops. Great location across from the beach and worth the drive from anywhere. One gripe I have with Yelp is the comment section that asks if the review was "Funny, Useful or Cool". They should have another for some of the chronic complainers who are never satisfied or are looking for a free meal. That should be "Useless". Yelp won't do it, though. read more

Well, this place is obviously very popular, but I'm not exactly sure why. For about $40.00, I got the fried whole clams, a lobster roll and two sodas. The serving sizes are pretty good, but the quality of the food was so-so. The lobster roll is really lobster salad on a roll (i.e. a ton a mayo and a little lobster). Also, if you've never been before, the crowd at Wollaston Beach can be a little disturbing. For most of my meal, I got to listen to a fat lady in a bikini shout into her cell phone about how she was lucky that the judge let her post bail so that she could enjoy the weekend. Anyways, bottom line: a little pricey for ok food and a kind of gross atmosphere, but at least the portions are good. FYI - they do serve beer and wine. read more

I ordered a clam roll and they charged me 16.95 never mind 2.75 for a soda it's ridiculous.
