Ambiance: 4/5 The restaurant is nicely situated on 3rd street just across from the Tommy Bahama. You can occasionally hear the live judiciary across the street while dining (for better or for worse). The outdoor seating is a must if it's nice out Food: 2/5 We ordered 8 oysters to start, followed by the Caesar salad and steak & lobster duo from the prix fixe menu, along with some cocktails and a nice bottle of rose. 6 our of the 8 oysters contained sizable pieces of shell and grit which was very unpleasant - unacceptable at $3.75 per oyster. The salads were quite good and came with whole anchovies. Half of our groups streaks were cooked incorrectly. Two orders of medium rare were over cooked to what I would call medium well with a considerable amount of char. The other two which were ordered rare were more mediums rare , but still nice. The lobster tails tasted rather salty in some spots but quite nice in others. Service: 1/5 Upon arriving the waiter walked us through a number of the cocktail options - we ordered 3 based on his recommendations. Next he walked us through a number of the different beef cuts available which was quite nice although they were sold out of some which he failed to mention until we asked. Upon opting to order from the prix fixe menu after our oyster course, the service took a notably different direction. We received very little attention from the waiter - no check in about the oysters, no check in about the main. Only upon asking to see the wine list again and ordering a bottle did we receive any sort of attention, yet still he failed to ensure that the food was to our liking by simply asking. What constitutes this 2 star rating ~ Starting with the positives: Awesome crispy thin french fries. An overpriced yet delicious cheeseburger. (Eaten very late one night just because no one else was serving food in that part of town). Fabulous decor in terms of all the b&w retro portrait photographs donning the walls. The not-so-positive and why, as a Naples resident, I will never choose to dine here or bring guests here. The only way I'd return is if a visitor insists on going: A large group of lady friends and I had our monthly ladies' lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon in July. It's summer, not too many people out. 20-ish of us sat in the smaller room (which is too loud and acoustically challenged). There were only 3 other tables (of couples) occupied in the entire establishment. From the time we sat, it took 45 minutes for the server to even ask for our drink order. It took 30 more minutes to receive the drinks. She took our food order OVER AN HOUR after we sat. By the time we were served our food, we had been sitting for 1.5 hours. Mind you, at this point we were *the only people in the restaurant* aside from 2 lingering small tables. Seemed to be plenty of staff. Our server wasn't super pleasant. Seemed bothered to be at work. She said "it took so long to bring your orders out bc there were so many." - ??? So what do you do when the restaurant is occupied to full capacity? It was not worth the wait. I ordered the $14 lunch special of 1/2 pastrami sandwich & caesar salad. Sandwich was like it was grilled then sat out for bread to stale. Ceasar's romaine was wilted, not crisp, clearly old lettuce. Croutons soggy. Meh. Not flavorful, not enjoyable. Disappointing service / attitude / food. I tipped $3. So for $17 it took way too long to get substandard, non pleasing food from a stuffy staff. There are plenty of restaurants in Naples. For $17, I think it's fair to desire a satisfying meal served from a person who leaves you with positive energy. The down sides I have are very picky and little such as waiter messing up getting the cork out of the bottle and cork went everywhere and he tried to serve that way but sommelier assisted to help I assume as everything was better when he returned. Just a couple weeks ago I visited the restaurant at the lunch hour to enjoy a pleasant conversation with a friend of mine from out of the country. I brought him to the Continental in particular because of its attractive ambiance, delicious food, and its nearness to some of the most beautiful parts of our little town. Everything was as I expected, except for one thing--the food. It was not merely good but absolutely fantastic. Some of the new offerings on the menu were spot on. We both picked items from the American Spa menu. I enjoyed the Lobster Burrata and my friend reveled in the Smoked Trout. Word like "fresh," "delicious," "flavorful," and "creative" marked our ongoing conversation regarding that lunch experience. We also enjoyed further the sweet pea pancakes with caviar and the poached oysters as well. Then, to top it off we savored every bite of a delectable slice of chocolate silk pie. The chef, Andrew Wicklander, is truly a master of his craft. I cannot wait to come back and to bring as many friends as possible to enjoy this experience once more. read more

27 May 2017 A re-make of a previous establishment in this location. We were a walk-in party of 2 and the hostess could not have been more accommodating and charming. We exchanged particulars and went to the bar. This has been rebuilt and is much improved. Bar tenders were really nice and they cleaned areas quickly as patrons went to their tables. When our text came stating our table was ready, we quickly got the bar tab settled and the hostess took us to one of the best tables in the house near the sidewalk under the new covered area. Our waiter was on mark with his introduction and describing the daily specials. It is suggested you consider the Hogfish and the grilled octopus . Both were excellent. We shared a side of carrots which were good but too close to being over done and cooked to death. The live music was of excellent choice and volume. This is partly why this is a $$$ establishment. Entertainment isn't free. We'll be back for certain. Why no 5-star? The sides are way too aggressively priced. (As in grossly overpriced) And my favorite peeve - Anheuser-Bush rides herd on establishments to serve their products at the proper temperature. The same should be done with the red wines. We ordered 3 glasses of wine and all 3 were in serious need of being temperature challenged. They were much, much too warm. A $15 9-oz pour ought to be of the proper temperature. No exceptions or excuses acceptable. Period. The end. If I bought a $80-$90 bottle of wine and it came to my table warm from the get-go, I'd send it back. You guys need to do something about this. read more

My husband and I had a chance to visit this restaurant again to see if improvements were made. Unfortunately no. The menu is quite overpriced but hey this is Naples. So $100 for a steak...you decide. The problem was the steaks were not good. ordered the gold waygu filet and Australian ribeye. At first taste, yum... but then you get an after taste of gas. No, I am not kidding, it tastes like the gas from the range it was cooked on. Don't believe me, order any filet on the menu. Don't just be impressed because it is waygu or pedmontise... actually take the time to taste it. The gas flavor is overwhelmingly So sad. Then there is the extremely overpriced wine list. I understand that at restaurants the price of a bottle is generally about 2x the retail price, that is ok. But the Continental charges 4x the price I am not kidding, our wine was $130. We can buy it for $35 on directly from the vineyard. I hesitate to comment about the waiters. We observed many good waiters from our table. Engaging, informative and pleasant...wish we could say the same about ours. I would say his name, but he did not even tell us. Management really needs to observe staff much better. I have been in Naples, FL for almost a month. We have been going to all kinds of restaurants for lunch almost everyday. Most restaurants have very similar menus. I don't know why? Perhaps the demographics do not allow for boldness and creativity. The Continental changed my mind. This is one of the rare establishment in Naples with a varied menu choices, the ambience gets 10 out of 10 and the service was dubbed with exceptional etiquette. The area was very quiet, low key music and the setting made you believe you were not on a busy street in the downtown Naples area. Our first time at The Continental after 20+ years of seasonal visits to Naples. Now that we are a little bit older and are able to spend more time in the area we've ventured out to some new (to us) spots like this one. Everything that we've heard about this establishment is true. It is without a doubt one of the best in Naples. From the moment we walked in we knew that this would be a memorable evening. We dined outside in the court yard under the stars and the heaters as a cold front blew through just hours earlier dropping the warm moist air down about 20 degrees. Our server Katie greeted us promptly and she was really special. Her exuberant personality showed through in every detail that she explained to us about the menu. Quite frankly we couldn't decide what to have for dinner as her presentation of the menu items were all so intriguing that we (me) wanted to try almost everything! We settled on fresh pan seared halibut for me, gold and silver label snake river farms filet of beef for our son and my wife. These were accompanied by sides of roasted mushrooms and pommes frites. We ended the evening with white chocolate macadamia nut pie and key lime pie with black berries infused in and over it. Wow! To top it all off an excellent jazz combo was playing throughout the evening giving the already enjoyable atmosphere a special vibe. The 4% service charge that is added to every tab (it was presented and explained well to us) may alarm some but it's certainly very inconsequential when considering the experience that you'll enjoy at The Continental. We have been coming to Continental since it opened and have never had an experience like this. We simply walked into the restaurant (or tried to) with mask at the ready only to be met by what can be described as as a hostess/security guard. After being halted and asked why we were there (Duh), we informed the "greeter" that we simply wanted to go to the bar to get a drink. Apparently, rationing their alcohol, we were curtly told "there are no seats at the bar, come back in 20-30 minutes." Stunned by the Soup Nazi treatment we turned and left. Very unfortunate. My wife and I saw the place during a visit to the farmers market in old Naples. We liked the tables under the flower arbors and asked for them on our visit. We were there at 3.05 and the hostess checked with the chef who said no, we they are reserved for 5:00 dinners (not available after 3:00), but we could sit at the bar. We sat at the bar, which was nearly empty and listened while some young women was rattling off her life story to our bartender. We asked for our snacks, as they were late, and finally got them near the time the young women left with some guy. Not sure what was going on there. Anyhow, this chef, who seems to be in control of the restaurant, must use better jugdement as this was an insult considering their website says that their tables are available between 3 and 5PM. The prices fit in with the Naples crowd, as the waiter brings you the best Mule you've ever had you can hear the faint whispers of Bentley driving tourists or part time residents talking about the thousands of dollars they've spent that day. If I were to bite the bullet and order from here I couldn't imagine the bill, it ended up being $50 for three drinks and a bottle of sparkling water. The waiter was super nice. Not vegan or vegetarian friendly, but it's a steakhouse so... Again staff was great, menu looked amazing but not for anyone that makes less then a bunch of money or going out on a very, very special occasion. I saw a $95 steak. Ninety-Five.. and that's just for the steak itself. Wow. I'm scared to give this place any less then 5 stars. I'd probably give it a 3 for the prices but again it's not my scene, so I don't want to be one of those poor whiny people. read more

The grilled mushrooms were fresh porcini - good, but could've used a bit more salt. The Australian Wagyu (filet mignon and NY strip) was expertly prepared, but to be perfectly honest, I think USDA Prime is just as good. What I'm saying is that the bump in price isn't worth it. What a disappointment. An overall rushed experience with mediocre food. Our server gave us no more than 3 minutes between ordering drinks and ordering food, which included explaining the menu in an extremely condescending manner (tonight's lesson involved him abruptly using a mini flashlight as a laser). He then crossed the line of decency when he went out of his way to let myself and my mother know "the ladies enjoy the carrots and the pear salad." He then went on to say something negative about everything we ordered (five menu items) until we changed our orders to the tune of about a $50 upsell. I can't imagine how bad our chosen items would have been, as the food we ultimately ordered was not worth the extra money. It was then taken away literally as soon as our plates were empty. In retrospect, it's a bit unnerving knowing we were being watched like hawks as we finished our meals. Our entire experience lasted a little over an hour and cost $300 for three people with four lousy cocktails. I understand that not-very-sneaky upsell tactic totally worked for our server for one night, but we'll never be back. With so many other great options in Naples, I won't miss this place. read more
