I stumbled upon this place while researching where to have lunch after our Topgolf outing. I sorted restaurants by rating and this was at the top. Boom. The rest is history. The menu is limited but that allows them to PERFECT what they offer. I went with the chicken sandwich (mild) with regular fries and my husband had chicken and waffles (medium) with sweet potato fries. My sandwich was incredible. Crispy fried chicken breast, tangy pickles, creamy slaw and their secret sauce sandwiches between a fluffy roll. The fries were perfectly cooked: crispy and piping hot and lightly dusted with a spiced seasoning. My husband LOVED his chicken and waffles. I had a bite and though it was good- the combo hasn't grown on me yet. But for him, the waffles, cinnamon butter, maple syrup and spicy tender combination was heavenly. I have to say, his medium tenders were definitely kicked up a notch from my mild sando but wasn't too much. WOW!! Delicious. Spicy. Then Delicious Again. I absolutely loved the food and experience eating here. Every person I spoke with here was polite which is always a great sign. The woman who took our order told us that a lot of people get the Texas Hot spice level even though she hasn't had it so I tried it. (She set me up lol) That damn chicken was hella hot lol. I will definitely be eating from here again, especially since I see they are set to open a location in Spring, which'll be much closer to me. The chicken tenders themselves were huge and juicy. I'm a Raising Canes fan and these tenders were easily 2x-3x bigger than the tenders at Canes. The waffle was a waffle. It was okay and presented well. Though it didn't stand out it didn't let down for me. The mac n cheese wasn't the best of all time but it was solid. It had a good natural cheese, cheesiness to it. No complaint there. I can honestly say that with 4 tenders, dragon fries and mac n cheese I did not expect to be unable to finish all of my food but the portions were very healthy, so I did end up leaving with a bit. I also had an ice cream sandwich and it was cool. It may have still been too cold when I had it because I struggled to eat it because it was too solid. The sauces were cool as well. I don't overly remember them unfortunately but I know they were cool. As I looked around when placing my order and saw how well set up the place was I asked if the restaurant was part of a chain and one of the women behind the counter must've been an owner because she said it was and they were only going to be grow bigger and have more locations. Decided to try out this chicken spot because all the local barbecue restaurants were sold out of their food. At first, I was kind of bummed because being an out of town-er, I really wanted to try some original Texas bbq. However, I made the right decision in choosing this restaurant because the chicken sandwich was delicious. I'm from Southern California where our best chicken sandwich is from Chick-fil-A. This restaurant is beyond compare. The bread, chicken and everything in between is tender, moist and everything you would want a chicken sandwich to be. We also had an order of the ribs which were fall off the bone delicious. The sauces, drinks and staff were very good. Location was clean and centered in a great plaza. The ribs were above standard, it was smoky/sweet, pretty tendered & a generous side for a half rack. I just wish it fell off the bone a bit easier, but it wasn't dry though. I am sorry to say but the Mac & cheese was not my favorite, I didn't get that creamy/cheesy texture that I wanted. Maybe it was sitting out too long or just a bad batch because it was kinda dry; I'll give it another go next time. Overall I enjoyed my experience at The Cookshack. What a great lunch! I shared with the team that it was our first time dining at Cookshack and received a wonderful overview of the menu from Charles, who was as kind as he was helpful. He steered me in the direction of the quarter rack of ribs paired with two chicken tenders and a choice of side. It was more food than I needed, but I was eager to try a sampling and it was terrific. The ribs were my favorite with the tenders a close second. The medium heat on the ribs was warm but not spicy IMO. They were delicious. I chose fried for my side which were good, but didn't stand out the way the ribs did and to Charles' credit, he tried to steer me towards their Mac and Cheese, which I stole from my wife in exchange for some of the ribs. This place deserves it's 5 star rating. We had chicken tacos and chicken and waffles. Huge portions, delicious, fresh, really hard to argue with. Service was great, cool ambiance with big windows and interesting lights too. It was also a little cheaper than it said on Yelp, maybe because we were there for lunch. This place is great. Stopped at this place on a whim when I saw it as I was driving on Washington, and hot chicken seemed like it would hit the spot. The menu provides a decent number of options with one being able to choose from hot chicken (chicken tenders, chicken sandwich, chicken and waffles, chicken tacos, chicken bowl), ribs, salads, several levels of spice for the chicken and ribs (from "not hot" to "AMF", i.e. "adios mother-f***er"), various kinds of sauce (ranch, honey mustard, proprietary "cookschack", etc.) an assortment of sides (French fries, spicy "dragon" fries, mac 'n cheese, Texas caviar, etc.), and a number of different non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages (Cock-A-Doodle Brew from Cowtown Brewing made specifically for Cookshack, craft beers, margaritas, wine). The place was pretty packed with a mixed crowd of younger people and families, imparting a very good afternoon vibe. On the recommendation of the very friendly cashier, I ordered the special of the day, the Sleezy Chicken, which is a bowl with mac 'n cheese topped with 2 chicken tenders, coleslaw, and shack Sauce. For spice level, I selected a mix between medium and Texas Hot, along with a Cock-A-Doodle Brew to wash it down. The bowl was tasty but not overly impressive with the flavor of the hot chicken good but not as delicious as other similar places I've visited. Additionally, the chicken flavor didn't seem to blend completely satisfactorily with the mac-and-cheese and coleslaw, resulting in a great initial flavor that declined with the aftertaste. The beer was also decent if not something to write home about. A light lager, I found myself wishing it were a bit less light and watery with a slightly more noticeable flavor. I do think that my overall eating experience might have been improved by ordering an item like a chicken sandwich with distinct sides that are consumed separately without so much mixing. With an awareness of that and given the environment, quality and friendliness of the service, and general vibe, I think four stars is an appropriate rating for this visit. However, I feel like the chicken is somehow lacking something that I can't pinpoint? My friend ordered the same thing but with kale salad and waffle. Well, the taste was not bad but not that good either. I tried my friend's waffle and it was nasty, not fully cooked and soggy.
