My friends and I wanted some dinner before catching a 7pm show at the children's theater. This was conveniently located within a 5 min walk so I made 5:30 reservations. When we arrived there were only 4 other people that were seated. With us that made 8 people total. The server was also the host and bartender. One other person was helping to bring out items until she had what appeared to be a meeting (I assume maybe a consult for an event). Leaving one person to do all the tasks. It took a bit before we were able to order our drinks. Another group of 8 arrived and were seated and their food orders were taken before ours. By the time we were finally asked for our food orders it was 6pm. We had been ready almost immediately. 40 minutes later I had to ask if there was an ETA for our food as we needed to get to the show. The server said she would check and the food was ready right at that moment. Our group literally had to Hoover in the food and leave. The worst part was that 3 of the 4 meals were salads. Basically we paid for overpriced food that we couldn't even attempt to enjoy. Based on reviews I was so excited. Ambiance was cute. I am not sure if it was because it was dinner vs Brunch, but the food was overall mediocre. My chicken sandwich was tasty but basically had to leave without touching my fries due to the lack of time. Cute ambiance and good brunch spot! Came here with my boyfriend and a friend for brunch on a Sunday (get a reservation!) and we definitely enjoyed our time here. The group got a cinnamon roll to share and then we had the eggs Benedict, eggs florentine, and the pork belly skillet. Everything was good, not amazing, but the breakfast potatoes were top notch. I recently visited with friends before attending a show at the Children's Theatre down the road. I had been here before right after 2020 for brunch, but it had been a while. I was excited to try their dinner as I remember enjoying my brunch items. Street parking is the only option as they do not have a lot. The place is small & has a cute aesthetic. We all loved the rustic vibe! Unfortunately, we had kind of a bummer experience overall. When I arrived, there was one other table of 4 besides us. They had a host/drink runner and a bartender/server. During the time we were waiting to order, another table came in and they took their orders first. I am bummed to say we only got one drink order in two hours. We also waited 40-45 minutes for three salads and a chicken sandwich and had to get up and go to the bar to ask for our food. The other table also had to get up to ask to close out. We had 15 minutes to close out, inhaul our food, and walk back over to the Theatre. I got the Hen Caesar Salad & I chose Salmon as additional protein. This came to $27.00 & was the weirdest Caesar. I think mine was missing the dressing. It was a bunch of greens/carrots which seemed to be blended by a blender. It was quite bitter as well. The salmon was smoked and really nice. Overall, communication is key. If we would have been informed about wait times we likely would have not eaten here or been a little more understanding. We were given no explanation/reason. It just became very awkward. It was surprising because as a former server I can't imagine having only 2-3 tables the whole time & barely getting to any of the tables to check in, re-up drinks, and communicate. I made a reservation here for a girls brunch/birthday brunch. It's a super cute restaurant. The decor is really adorable and I love the vibe. I ordered a caramel latte and the copper Benedict. The latte was really good. The Benedict was okay. I would've like it more but I think my plate must have been made first of my tables cause the eggs were cold. The potatoes and the sauce that was serviced with it was the star of the show though. Service was decent for a Saturday morning brunch and it was a pretty busy restaurant. My biggest pet peeve was that the images of dishes on their menu were not available options in the restaurant. It probably wouldn't be my first choice simply because the service was slow, not very helpful, and they couldn't care less if we were there or not. The restaurant was practically empty, and we asked for a booth. The hostess said we couldn't sit in any of them because they were reserved. We were the last table that evening... I do think their pricing is a little excessive. I substituted my veggie for carrots due to an allergy and was charged an additional $5. Not a big deal, but weird when you sub one veggie for another. Had a great Christmas Eve at the Cooper Hen! I DEVOURED my meal. The only thing that could have improved it was bread to clean my plate of any of the leftover garlic sauce that was on my potatoes. My husband's hot honey chicken sandwich was delicious as well. Their tap was having issues, but the owner herself came out to apologize for the inconvenience and my husband got a partial of the beer he ordered and a comp'd cocktail. Mixed reviews. After reading some of the other comments from the negative reviews, I'm a little vindicated. Overall, this was a lovely evening, and a really fun spot to try for the first time. Extensive bar and drink menu, dinner menu is a little small, but still they had enough options. I see that some have complained about the parking situation but if you call them they tell you you are allowed to park in the lot across from the restaurant. This means their signage Copper Hen should be posted over there as well as the Asian grocery store name. This would help to avoid worrying about getting towed during dinner. :) We ordered the butter board which was delightful & fun. They didn't skimp on the butter or the bread. The butter board included 2 butters and 1 apple jam w good bread. I ordered the mac & cheese, which came out in a beautiful piping hot skillet. I didn't realize the whole thing had gone in the oven and I ended up hurting my arm on the handle. I may have been distracted when they brought out our food, but I don't remember them saying please watch out for hot dishes. Mac & cheese was delicious and creamy and even more delicious the second day for leftovers. My friends ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the french fries with the garlic aïoli mayo and the wild boar pasta. The fries were super good and so was a sandwich. The wild boar pasta was over cooked and had very little meat in it and also there was only about six pieces on the plate with no vegetables so this was over priced in our opinion for $27 We did run it by the waitress and she went back and talked to the manager, but they didn't adjust the bill or do anything. In retrospect, she should've sent it back when she first saw it. There wasn't much flavor or much to eat. Desserts. One gluten-free chocolate cupcake, one carrot cake cupcake, one wild berry fruit pie with ice cream. None of these desserts were memorable, and all were dry. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. Tables were socially distanced and all were wearing masks. I got the restaurant week special which included salad, entree, and a cupcake for dessert for $30. I chose the Caesar Brussels salad and pot pie. The salad was good, not great. It was a little dry, and that is said from someone who doesn't like much dressing. The pot pie was phenomenal. It was served piping hot in a skillet. It was filled with chicken and carrots. Why I may not come back is the whole time I was there the door was being fixed with loud drilling that reverberated throughout the dining room. When I told my mom I would be in Minneapolis, she told me to make sure I visited the copper hen. Walking in, the hostess was incredibly enthusiastic and made me feel welcome. I loved the vibe in the restaurant but service was bit slow due to a large party and limited staff. My latte came out warm but far from hot. This meant I felt like I had to finish it quickly if I didn't want it to be ice cold. Unfortunately, i wasn't able to try the famed chicken pot pie as it wasn't on the brunch menu. Instead I had the beef and egg. The short rib was delicious and very tender. I would have preferred to sub the heaps of arugula for something else. My poached egg was a bit underdone. I also tried the bread pudding French toast. This turned out to be a grilled piece of French toast that was incredibly dense. If you were with a large party and were super curious, it might be worth trying but for me it was too dense and heavy so I ended up having a lot left which was unfortunate. It came with delicious syrup which was wholly unnecessary. I also took two cupcakes to go. The red velvet was not very good. It was dry and had a strange aftertaste. It was mostly mid-twenties to thirties people. The portions were large. I love the use of reusable, low environmental impact, and compostable items. The restaurant is very farmhouse I'm talking my drink was served in a ball jar level. I had their chicken pot pie, its a bit different than *normal* chicken pot pie so if you aren't in to (what I think is) thyme then I would avoid it. I have never been to this restaurant before and researched the reviews and menu prior to deciding to eat here. The positives of eating here included: - Deliciousness! I ordered the BRUSSELS CAESAR: shaved brussels sprouts, caper vinaigrette, pecorino, egg yolk, 1000 croutons ($12) and added pulled chicken (+ $4) for protein. This was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, the dressing also wasn't heavy and gave a great taste to the salad. - Water glasses: I loved how table water was served in cute little pitcher glasses. These kept the water cold and added a really fun and unique twist to drinking water. Plus, they use filtered water so it is very nice and crisp without any funny after taste. - Time: It didn't take too long to receive our food. I received my order in about 15 minutes, and the presentation was beautiful. However, there is one major negative. - Parking: It is really hard to find parking due to the busy location and availability. We went on a Friday morning and it wasn't busy at all. I imagine it is much more crowded on weekends. The first thing you see when you walk in is the huge dessert glass case with the most beautiful looking baked goods They have a few tables to eat at outside, but the decor inside is beautiful to look at! There is also a side room where the bar is. I had the Woke Up Crabby Toast and it was amazing. A little spendy at $17, but the toast was loaded with ingredients and the crab cake on top was amazing.
