I never actually got a chance to eat there. We showed up approximately 6 PM on a Tuesday evening and were told it was open seating. As we started to walk towards a table, we were told that only the outdoor seating was available because everything else either had a reservation or the table was reserved. The host directed us to a certain location outside. We walked to that location and chose a table. When the waitress showed up, she told us that she had a reservation for this area and we would have to move to different outside tables in front of the restaurant. At this point, we decided to just go to Cucina across the street who seated us immediately without question. I can only assume maybe there wasn't a manager on duty or the staff is just inexperienced. I do know that it soured my opinion on the restaurant to the point I will likely never come back. The restaurant was only about 25% full and we kept getting shoved farther and farther away. Best biscuits and gravy I've had. Everything made in house. It's rich and comforting with out being dense or heavy. The staff is warm and friendly. Had a fun afternoon here on a December Saturday. Great service the whole time we were there although it was pretty busy the entire time. We didn't order any food just a few rounds of Jack n cokes. Liked the Christmas decor and layout of this bar. So much craft beer to choose from. The bathroom was clean too! We actually stopped by again later the same night so that I could use their bathroom (Ben ordered one drink at the bar) instead of the one at the 2nd bar we went too (catching up with San Diego friends). We were in the area and looking for a place with a low wait time to grab a quick bite and drink. This place was one I hadn't tried yet so we gave it a go. I was pleased with the service; our hostess and server were both very friendly and polite. The food came out quickly and the drinks were reasonably fast as well. Our beet/quinoa/arugula salad was great! Definitely pleased with that order. However, the blackened mahi sandwich was absolutely dismal. The fish had no seasoning whatsoever, even tho it was moist and cooked properly. The bread had no spread and the whole thing was terribly bland. Avoid at all costs. Our drinks were decent but not amazing, though I did enjoy the earl grey infused vodka. After our experience with the less-than-stellar food, we will not be back. read more

The staff were very accommodating and did well in friendliness, prompt seating, and food delivery. My dissatisfaction was with the Cobb Salad. The salad greens primarily consisted of endive lettuce. The chicken slices were dry. The remaining items within the salad were mediocre in quantity, quality and flavor. Let's get this out now, I don't like being surprised with a surcharge to help businesses pay for minimum wage. I'm over everybody digging in my pockets without asking. This information needs to be transparent before I sit down or before I order so I can make my own choice. Breathe- I have only eaten the ribs, rib nachos, fries and sipped the Shirley Temple. I wanted a quick bite and the ribs were $2.50 each on Thursday rib & draft Happy Hour. I was and satisfied. Tender, meaty, smoked and tasteful are not enough descriptors for these ribs. The homemade sauce didn't add nor take away from the succulence. I would suggest you ask for sauce on the side. True ribs need no sauce unlike the overrated Phil's. And the six ribs were plated beautifully. Culinary presentation pride. I'm a French Fries addict. I judge restaurants based on their fries, so immature. Any hoot, real potatoes, non-greasy and the secret seasoning is perfectly blended atop the fries. I love salt. I didn't ask for any during my HH diluge. By the way ask for a side of ranch, even if you don't like ranch, it is delicious with these fries. Rib nachos? You heard, not carne asada, nor chicken, but ribs. With crisp freshly fried tortilla chips with the fixings. I'll pass on the cheese sauce next go around. And of course I must give accolades to the bar. Oh, I had a drink. Remember? The Shirley Temple. I grew up on these drinks since I was in my mother's womb. The Corner did a perfect ratio of grenadine to sprite. Who would have thought a Drafthouse is also an expert in Shirley Temple's. It goes without saying the ambience is rustic wood, low lights, modernized and warm. You know what's really cool? The TVs are enclosed in gold picture frames decor. Patio dining, indoor dining or chilling at the bar. It's an open air eatery with plenty of TV's to watch all sports. We enjoy coming to the Corner Draft House. The food is good and their specials always change, which is appreciated. We really enjoy coming here for breakfast/brunch, but we have been here for dinner a few times before going to an event at Balboa park. The location is so close to Balboa park which is great when you want to grab a bite then head over. Parking isn't too bad either for being in a busier area. My friends and I have come here on many occasions and the service is always good. A couple times when they were very busy, and I believe we had a newer server, it was a frustrating experience. But the circumstances were understandable and clearly we've been back. I like that they do have vegetarian and healthier options as well as the staples. They also change their menu seasonally which is awesome! Turkey sandwich and turkey dinner plate during November, yes please. Same with the cocktails. They lost a star because my friends and I went to HH last week. I ordered a carafe (the size of a teeny tiny vase) of blood orange sake that was so tart I nearly had a focal seizure ($14 apparently not one of the drinks that gets $2 off for happy hour), two tiny sliders ($8), a side of delicious sweet potato fries ($6) and my check (surcharge and taxes added) was over $31!!! I have to disclaim that I've only been here for brunch but I find myself wanting to go back again and again because all the dishes are tempting and I've never had one I didn't like so far. I appreciate that there's a major variety on the menu but everything is done well, so no compromise between options and execution. The cocktail menu is expansive without sacrificing quality or serving sugar bombs, and the draft list is similarly impressive. Service has been excellent every time. Have only been here twice but we will definitely be returning. The first time we went in, we got the buffalo cauliflower wings, a side salad and an impossible burger with fries. All were good and I loved the cauliflower wings. As far as drinks, I got a whiskey sour. I noticed that they had some pretty good happy hour offerings, with an all day happy hour on Wednesdays. Second visit we came for happy hour and ordered brussel sprouts and the impossible burger again. I ordered the Pretty in Pink with vodka instead of tequila and was pleased. For both visits, the service was attentive and inviting. The server on our second visit was especially helpful with menu substitutions and knowledge. Arrived about 4:30, there seemed to be a shift change, and there were only about 4 other couples in the front with a huge group in the back that appeared to be an afterwork mixer. We just wanted a couple of beers and some bar bites but we couldn't get any attention. Sitting at the bar we could see about 100 beer taps, but when we looked at the scanned menu the bartender kept telling us the beers we wanted were not available. Let me start by saying this is not my first time at this restaurant, I have come here for years as it is one of our favorite local spots, we even had our fancy beer mugs at one point. However the menu has changed within the last several weeks, We used to always order the fried chicken sandwich which they recently changed to the Tennessee Hot Chicken sandwich and let me say this has got to be the biggest downgrade. It was so hot that you could not enjoy it (coming from somebody who eats anything and everything spicy or with a kick of heat) I ate a quarter of the sandwich and another person in our group had a bite of two with the same complaint of being too hot (we always bring friends here and rave about the menu) when we mentioned this to our server she did not seem to care and said we should leave a yelp review because they wont listen to her. She did not offer us to order anything different or even let a manager know. (We all work in the service industry.. so this was an epic fail) Nonetheless, the buffalo cauliflower was great as usual, the hummus was fine, another person in our group had the club sandwich and wings and those were great.
