Went here with my son a few months ago never got around to review. Food is average at best service on a busy Saturday understandably slow, staff nice. Place is dirty and half way through my meal a roach climbed my leg, I swept it off and crushed it dead a short distance from our table, funny thing was no one batted an eye as though it was a common occurrence. Just ordered chicken and broccoli toss. Looks like I made the wrong choice as this place looks fine only for burgers and sandwiches. I am SHOCKED at how much oil is swimming on top of the pasta. I think they replaces the sauce with oil. Must be at least 1 liter of oil in a 400gm pasta. Not very healthy or tasty either. Flavor is hidden under the amount of oil in the dish (bland and average). Location, location, location. That is the top 10 list of things that are right about the Corner Room. I would give zero stars if it was an option. Went there recently with my wife and two kids and we were kept waiting for more than FORTY FIVE MINUTES for our food after placing our order. Inexplicable. My wife and I got salads and the kids got kid stuff - I think it was grilled cheese and chicken fingers. In other words, it was not a make-to-order issue, it was just that we were ignored. We watched multiple tables get seated and eat during this time. Our attempts to flag the staff did not seem to expedite anything. No meaningful apology. We ducked in cause we thought we could get something quick before hitting the road with the kids in the evening. As it was, our kids sat there falling asleep and moaning about how h u n g r y they were. Parent's worst nightmare. Oh, and the food was TERRIBLE when it finally came out and seemed like it had been under a heat lamp/countertop for . . . you guessed it, 45 minutes. This, by the way, is not the first bad experience I've had here (and I'm a PSU alum). I cannot figure out why I keep coming back but this is absolutely the last time. AVOID THE CORNER ROOM AT ALL COSTS. It is a tourist trap for out-of-towners who don't know any better. (Ever notice how there are no college kids in here? That should tell you something.) The. I have been in the restaurant industry for 3.5 years and have lived in state college for years. I was excited to eat at this restaurant because I have walked past it for years and have loved the style and history of this great locatiin. Tonight I finally went in, and I wish that I had stayed out your keep this place as a good memory. Walked in to there being no host, stood for 5 minutes then seated a booth myself, waiter comes over, and my guest and I get water, she brings over 1 water. We order a ceasar salad and a hot turkey plate, which comes with mashed potatoes gravy and stuffing as well. As I wait for my meal I notice a few things, our server has 4 tables, so she couldn't be very busy, the other server is TEXTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR, WTF. and the busboy and host looked as if they were about to fall asleep and looked very unhappy to be there. When the food arrived 15 minutes later, which I was impressed with. The server finally figured out that I had yet to get a water and got one for me Ceaser salad was a very wilty. My turkey dinner thing was quite bad. Turkey was dry and had no flavor, it broke apart into dry little pieces. Stuffing resembled stove top Stuffing. Mashed potatoes were meh, needed some butter and stuck to the plate like glue. Side veggies were overly steamed to the point that they turned to water in your mouth and had to have come from frozen ( which I'm not against but they were badly done) Sadly I knew the server so I gave her 15% and left feeling like I lost some of my small town pride read more

The service here is amusingly uncoordinated--we've gotten drinks well after our food, which comes out incredibly fast. On Thursdays, the Corner Room offers half-price burgers which I've always found to be average, but definitely not nearly as bad, in my experience, as some of those described below. For $3, though, they meet the mark. As someone else commented earlier: this place SO reminds me of the dining hall food I had as an undergrad...so maybe it's worth the nostalgia? read more

Our dinner meal was great. I had the amazing fries with cheese, scallions and sour cream, along with a hot tasty French onion soup. They could have gone less on the bread inside so we could enjoy more of the broth, but overall delicious. Our server was delightful and available. Now if you want breakfast you will need to get there well before the 11:00 cut off, because that cut off time means nothing to the management. We were there at 10:25 and were told that by the time we would be seated, they will be serving lunch. Need to put the customers that come for breakfast before the kitchen staff and give them the breakfast that they are coming to there establishment for. Not difficult. read more

This place is the best! I went 4 nights in a row while visiting penn state because there were SO many incredible things on the menu I had to try. Here are some of my favorites I had: The shepards pie is so good Always ask the soup of the day the cream of broccoli is to die for! The mozzarella sticks are delicious The corner grilled salad! With the steak is literally the best salad I had ever had. This place is actually the best I would go to penn state just to eat here everyday. Incredible food and service. read more

I came here for brunch on Homecoming Game Day. I expected something more from a place with such a history, but this place has existed for decades because it's tradition to eat here. The food is average, the service averages out between the various experience levels of the servers, and the ambiance is average. Disappointing (but I'll still probably end up eating here again. We had breakfast there this morning, and it was very good. The meals had fresh ingredients and it was not a prefab breakfast. The service was good also. It wasn't very crowded as it was move-in weekend but they did not take the quality for granted. Can't wait to go back. read more

Very satisfied with my breakfast from the Corner Room. Ordered two eggs over easy with pancakes and scrapple. The eggs were perfectly cooked, malted pancakes were incredible and the scrapple was so-so. Portion was really good for the price. If I were to go again, I think I would just order the pancakes because they were THAT good. The decor was dated but it was a real restaurant, not just a diner or fast food setup like most other downtown State College restaurants. It was interesting to note that the servers all have their hometowns on their name tags, similar to the way Disney World does it. I found it interesting that our server was from a small PA town yet spoke with an affected (and fairly annoying) southern/southwestern accent. read more

Overall, I would try somewhere else go. As far as the food, I got the fish platter (which only contained one piece of fish) and it was drastic undercooked. The coleslaw was pretty good, but the fries were meh (Note: I was somewhat inebriated so you have to assume the food would have been even noticeably worse if I was sober) . The only bright side was our server. He was very nice and his service was speedy. I wish I could remember his name because he deserves the recognition, but I can't (He was white, mid 20's, glasses, black hair/slightly balding). This place is okay for breakfast or lunch. It's kind of slow. They have this white sangria with blueberries and apples in it. That's my favorite there (not even a food item). I think it's seasonal though. This is one of those places where if one person in the group suggests it and everyone else is just like "whatever" *shrug* then they all go. I like the corner room ! A previous commenter was right when they said it had a diner like menu, but it's nice inside and you can almost always get a booth for lunch. The food is pretty good, but my favorite is the bison burger. The milkshakes are great too. Would have given it more stars but sometimes I come away thinking that the prices were a bit much for the quality of food, but I still keep going back. It's not outstanding but consistently good with friendly service in a great location. read more

The Corner Room is a State College mainstay. Its not a fancy place but the interior is well kept and the service is speedy. I can recomend the soups, they are always good! They run specials and have a good sized menu. You can't go wrong with a visit to teh corner room if you want a small town traditional foods. read more

The Corner Room is State College, a tradition. The high-back leather booths offer some privacy and noise reduction (although they used to be red, which I miss) and the salmon is my absolute favorite dish. Just a little crisp on the outside, a kind of tangy sauce but not too much to over power or drown the salmon, cooked to perfection every time I've had it. The rest of the menu has become a lot of club sandwiches and upscale bar food: nachos, chicken fingers, cheesesteaks. The service can be rather slow, but taking it easy and enjoying being downtown is part of the plan when you head to the Corner Room. There is still an upstairs grill, which I've never eaten at; and a little office for what seems to be hotel check ins, but no hotel?? My favorite thing outside of the salmon is the old, wooden, turning door. Sadly, it's often locked and you have to use the side entrance, but still so cool to see. Street/garage parking only. Make a day of it. Park in a garage, go shopping for PSU souvenirs, have lunch at the Corner. read more

Ate here with 4 other people, neither of us were very impressed with our food. Ordered Philly cheesesteak (best thing about it was the bread), hamburger (it was definitely undercooked and not the medium that was ordered), 4 cheese mac and cheese (may have been the best dinner ordered), fish tacos (I'm a huge fan of fish tacos and typically order it if it's on the menu, this was easily the worse I've ever had, it's as if they grabbed a mission flour tortilla, threw in a few pieces of fish, then a little lettuce, tomatos, cheese, salsa...very disappointing and I may have to refrain from fish tacos for awhile after this bland experience), and I can't recall what the last dish was ordered, it was apparently forgettable. Appetizers: buffalo dip, skip it, Tator tot nacho style was not bad Dessert: sticky buns were tasty, all of us enjoyed it We were here for the week, it was our least favorite and biggest regret. Not a bad place at all.... if you are walking around PSU you can't miss this place right on College Ave. Food was average, service was good, place does have the "old time" feeling to it, but our booth, plates, and utensils were clean, so I wouldn't say it is a dirty place. Went there for an early lunch at I had a grilled chicken breast wrap which really was delicious. Portion was fair for the price. I would go back to this place, but again, nothing exceptional that makes me WANT to go back. If you're looking for something new in Penn State, give it a shot. read more
