    Carrot Cake

What a great place. My wife's salmon was perfectly cooked and I wanted to get another one right away. My chicken was very good too. They have a mini-farmers market pre fixe option too that I want to try next time. The carrot cake was great but the Bonfire dessert was a showstopper and a must get while it lasts. I can't wait to go back and try other menu items! Great service and a cozy place. I gotta say of all things the burger seemed like the most popular item and after I saw one come out it's at the top of my list.

One of best meals we've had in a long time. From drinks to dessert we were impressed by this mindful and flavorful menu. Never in my life have I ever craved a deviled egg, but I sure do now! That burger was one of the best around. Every single bite. Just go. Try it for yourself.

I had Sunday dinner at The Cottage this past weekend and will definitely be visiting again to try their next menu update. We started with the deviled eggs, which were perfect with our cocktails. I ordered their Brown Derby, which was very strong but very well made (and I'm not even a bourbon fan). I also ordered the harvest salad which was both gorgeous and delicious, featuring perfectly cooked seasonal produce. I could have done without the whipped cheese portion of the salad, but my friend loved it so it's likely just personal preference. I had the corn tortellini as my main. The brown butter sauce was quite rich, but even the full sized portion (they offer 2 sizes) wasn't overwhelming. The portion sizes were actually perfect throughout. It was one of the best parts of the meal for me because I like to try several dishes and the portions were perfect for this. The ambiance and service were excellent as well. I went with a friend but it would be an ideal dinner date spot.

Edit: It is now 3 days later and I am still experiencing bouts of nausea dizziness and stomach discomfort from food poisoning. I am a very healthy person and have not yet been able to eat anything substantial. If this happens to someone who is immuno-compromised there will be far more serious consequences. The rating has been lowered to Two Stars to call attention to this matter. I hope management and staff take note and the requisite preventative action. Wait staff was pleasant and efficient. Aaron our server was terrific. Pleasant atmosphere although the tables are a bit closer than optimum. Service times were reasonable considering it was a Friday night and the restaurant was busy. Ordered the lobster roll appetizer and the Paglia e Fieno entre which I found to be very rich. My partner thoroughly enjoyed her beet salad and the cottage burger which was perfectly cooked to medium-rare. The lobster roll was flavorful and very tender though a little heavy on the butter. Actually it was sopping with butter. This morning brought stark realization why the lobster was probably so tender. Second worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. Twenty-four hours later and still extremely nauseous and having intense cramps and then just now, well you know.... Thankfully I have activated charcoal and arsenicum album on hand which saved a visit to urgent care. An unfortunate end to what had been an enjoyable dining experience. Given the circumstances, not anxious to return. Once burnt - twice shy.

Another great dinner at the cottage! Staff is courteous, professional, with the right amount of customer care, friendliness and respect. The food experience is still unrivaled in the area in my mind. It looks good, it is creative and appeals to your senses in different sequences (including the aftertaste of the spices). We were lucky to have a corner table by the door, allowing to get a quieter experience than our previous one. Not cheap, but definitely worth it

Visited The Cottage with a friend. She had been once before and raved about their street corn pasta so we decided to take a trip to Westport. There was ample parking when we arrived. The restaurant is small and intimate. They have a large bar as well too bad I don't live closer or I would definitely frequent. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating. I ordered the piano drink that was delicious. I ordered the crudo to start. The fish was fresh I just wish there was a citrus element to it but it was still very tasty. I got the street corn pasta. It truly was so delicious with the fresh corn and cojita cheese. For dessert I had the panna cotta, the sorbet served with it was so light and refreshing. I also ordered an espresso martini with baileys with was delicious as well. Our server was very attentive and gave perfect recommendations and suggestions upon request.

Came here with a group of 6 of us after a recommendation. We wanted to share everything family style and ordered quite a few appetizers! Had fun sharing the plates and discussing the food with my group. My favorites were 1. Cauliflower 2. Crab fried rice 3. Bao bun 4. Duck breast smoked 2 ways The rest of my party were really happy with their food and drinks. Pricey but delicious!

The bacon. Came with 2 pieces total.

Very disappointed in the food. We went yesterday for Father's Day brunch (Sunday afternoon). Our waitress was very nice but the food was not what was expected from this restaurant. The waffles were dry and crumbled apart, the pancakes did not look like the pictures and looked like something we could make at home. The bacon came with 2 skinny pieces and again did not look like the pictures. Very disappointing.

One of the most amazing culinary experiences I have ever had. Hands down the BEST place in Westport. The interior is tasteful, simple, and beautiful. Tables are small and close together. The service was just the way it should be at fine dining restaurants. Exceptional... Now the food. Each dish was absolutely perfect. There were so many flavors in each dish and made the experience very special. The tuna was so fresh and I savored every bite as there were so many flavors to take in... next was the famous waygu brisket bao buns... it was like a cloud with wonderful sauces and cabbage to accent the perfectly cooked brisket. The street corn tortellini was to die for! What a concept to mix these flavors together!! Truly exceptional and I really enjoyed those! Next was the crab fried rice which was so rich with the perfect blend of oil and crunch! Just a wonderful experience and I enjoyed every moment. I can't wait to go back!

Came here for my birthday celebration and did outdoor dining in their heated tent. The tent was warm and spacious enough that the tables were decently far apart for those concerned with social distancing. Service was fine, nothing spectacular, but I see how other reviewers were disappointed with it. When you go to a nice and pricey restaurant such as The Cottage you generally expect a certain fine dining level of service. Food came out in reasonable time and water was refilled. Our waitress was not super friendly and did wear a mask, but it was on her chin the entire time. I think it would have been more professional to either just not wear it at all or wear it correctly. We started with the wagyu buns and crab toast. The buns are fun to make and were pretty tasty. It came with a siracha Mayo which could have been spicier. They also come with potato tempura which was super crisp on the outside and light on the inside. The kimchi was decent but could have had more of a kick/punch. The crab toast was good but nothing special. For entrees we had the duck fried rice and the squash angliotti. My husband really enjoyed the angliotti. The duck was tasty and cooked well. The fried rice itself was ok-it seemed more like a rice pilaf texture. For dessert, we got the apple tart tatin which was not very good. The apples had a strange bitter taste like they were super over cooked. In terms of special occasion westport restaurants, The Whelk was a better experience than The Cottage overall.

There was street parking when we got there but they also have valet and some self parking in the back. As we walked in, the ladies at the host stand were so warm and inviting. They were also the cutest ever. They encouraged us to sit out on the patio versus the bar so we headed upstairs. Our waitress came over with menus and it went downhill from there. She was so inattentive that we had to ask the other waiter for things we needed. He was engaging, checked on us and we even chatted about his Jordanian heritage and my trip there back in December. Our actual waitress, however, checked on the table next to us 6 times (yes I counted) in between her checking on us. Even when I ordered a mocktail, I guess they didn't have the one I wanted so she brought me an entirely different drink without asking me. Then got upset when I didn't want it. The absolute audacity. As far as the food, we got the crab cake, lamb, whipped mashed potatoes and the bread. The food was good but the bread took it to another level. It should have been complimentary though but that's neither here nor there. Overall, loved the experience but wish we had another waitress. She didn't even acknowledge my friend's birthday. Sigh.

That spontaneous decision led us to an absolute treasure. They offered the perfect Valentine's Day menu--easy to navigate and beautifully suited for the occasion without being overwhelming. For my main course, I ordered the grilled swordfish. It was fresh, tender, and full of flavor. What truly surprised me was the sauce paired with pineapple--it sounded interesting, but it worked perfectly. The balance of savory and sweet was spot on, and every bite complemented the next. So I've actually debated whether or not to include this UberEats delivery review. The first time I…read moretried to go through with it, I just couldn't really figure out what to write. I only ordered it on UberEats this past Friday night, so it's not like I actually went there. However, the more I ate and thought about it, the more I realized something. This is the 4th year in 6 I've done a pre-birthday send-off UberEats order, and this is my 3rd year in a row doing so. In 2021, I had Edo on the last week before I turned 30. 2024, it was Boatyard at Smokey Joe's in Stamford, ordered on April 18. Last year, I did the Norwalk location of Elm Street Diner on April 24. If we want to take that into consideration, then that would be reason enough to sum my thoughts up together and get something down. So to send off age 34, say hello to Walrus Alley! If I'm being honest, I always wanted to have a barbecue right before my birthday of this year of all years. It only felt appropriate for 2026. Originally, I was going to have Wire Mill Saloon from Redding delivered using Yelp, but one of the items I'd ordered was out of stock, so that got canceled and I turned my sights here and ordered what I would have gotten from Redding. This was a half-rack of ribs, an order of Mac & Cheese, side of cornbread (this one came with coleslaw and pickles), and an a la mode chocolate bourbon pecan pie. The pecan pie was the only change since if I had gotten the Redding order, I would have had a key lime pie a la mode. I also put in some Alabama sauce because it does ribs a new flavor to play along with. I had everything over the next three days, hence why I am writing this review now. I will start by saying the ice cream did not make it without melting, but that's okay. I wasn't expecting it to since my driver did have to make a bunch of stops along the way, making my order take over an hour to deliver. No fault on the driver or restaurant there, and I ended up drinking the ice cream anyway, and it was still refreshing, so c'est la vie. The pecan pie it came with was actually really good. I found that it's better if you let that chill off a bit. Don't use plastic silverware for this one for the pie will break them, but delicious and sweet all the same. I'd love to have this in an in-person visit. In contrast, the cornbread should be warm when you eat that. It's buttered and soft, but it might be too dry if you try to eat it cold. The pickles are more of the spicy kind. I prefer sweet pickles, but I don't mind them being spicy either. The coleslaw I will say suffers the same fate that befell the one from Boatyard: it doesn't taste like true coleslaw. They should take a bit of inspiration from the Smokies (think Eastern Tennessee or Western NC) to learn how it should be done. It's lacking that mayonnaise component that truly makes it coleslaw. If they added that, then we might be talking! I decided to leave the ribs and Mac & cheese for last in the review because they do provide reheating instructions for those who order take-out such as myself. The Mac & cheese was actually eaten very late on the first night. The instructions given for Mac & cheese were spot-on, baking at 375 for 10 minutes before I dug in. It was some damn good Mac & cheese. Cheesy, love the breadcrumbs, and very satisfying overall. The ribs were the last to be finished. I will say I did also follow the instructions for the ribs as they were written; however, unlike the Mac & cheese, the ribs were still cold in the middle after 20 minutes in 375. You need the microwave to finish the job here. The ribs themselves were good. They weren't the best ribs I've ever eaten, but they were tender, the BBQ sauce was tasty, and the meat fell right off the bone. I will say that for this meal it needs a healthy amount of Alabama sauce all on it to really elevate it, but other than my experience reheating them this was my only criticism. Overall, a worthy BBQ meal. I'd still pick Hindsight BBQ over this if faced with deciding which CT BBQ to go with, but this will get the job done and then some if you need good BBQ. I'd love to come in-person one night and experience this place firsthand.

WE were actually having italian at Massi Co located in the same building (great by the way and highly recommended) and i couldn't pass up the chance for some BBQ especially since it was only 50 feet away. I ordered a half rack and an order of burnt ends, two go tos for me when judging a new BBQ restaurant. I would say I have eaten BBQ from hundreds of restaurants from texas to KC, to west coasts southern you name it.. SAD to say the burnt ends were about the fattiest i have ever encountered, not sure ive experienced the point of a brisket that had so much higher content of fat then meat.. Id say i was lucky if out of the entire order i was able to find a couple edible bites that weren't 90% yes 90% fat. After the disappointment of the burnt ends (my favorite BBQ item usually) I figured well the ribs will be good i bet.. NOPE, to repeat my comment to my son in law.. perhaps the worst ribs i have ever had period. no color no smoke ring, no bark no flavor and just a chewy tough mess. Will be cut off the bone and given to my dog. BBQ is Americana and while there's a lot of mediocre BBQ out there nothing should be like this. Simply inedible!!!!!!!!!!!
