The burgers here are high end. I love the selection of meat. The bison patties are well worth the $3.50 extra. Don't forget the BEAUJOLAIS PAIRING. TIP: Sign up for the birthday club. Get a free shake on their bday (with sprinkles!). Bring a cake. They put our ice cream cake in the fridge, provided a plates, and knife, and a lighter for our candles. Well worth an extra $20 tip. TRAP: Don't go too nuts on customizing your burger unless you know what you're doing. You can build a burger with tasty condiments, but the whole thing will end up tasting wierd. Instead, look at the classic choices, and add one or two exotic ingredients at a time. The place is kid friendly. The wait is not too long to get in. I wasn't craving a burger, but boy oh boy do I love cheese. I created my own grilled cheese sammie for $7 and it allowed you to choose 3 cheeses and as many different toppings as your sammie can hold. I chose blue cheese, and the other ones were basically irrelevant because that's all I could really taste. Note: choose some that won't overpower each other. The sammie had a sprinkle of each topping I chose, and for a small-ish sandwich, it held it's own. We also got a boat of Parmesan fries to share and they were deliciously layered with cheese and spices, not just thrown on top. Highly recommend it for the price! I also got a birthday cake milkshake which was basically a vanilla milkshake with sprinkles. Nothing to write home about, but it was good despite the fact that it was kind of melty. Came in around 6 pm on a weekday and the place was relatively empty. It was a great time to nab a booth for two as over the next couple of hours, the place filled up to the point of capacity. Our server was good and consistently checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. We split an order of the loaded potato tots (amazing) and I ordered a salad with bison and herbed goat cheese along with guac and it was delicious. You still get all the flavors of a burger when you get it on a salad, but the meal is much lighter and you're able to finish the whole dish without feeling like a total glutton afterwards. Not only did the burger prices go up, but they now charge you an automatic 20% service charge to your bill.... come to find out that the servers now split tips with other servers which is now paid bi weekly on their paychecks, this makes the level of service go WAY down. The 20% service charge alone made me not want to tip the server (mind you they split the tips anyway). I also felt like the server didn't give a shit about good service because of the automatic service charge and tip splitting which goes who knows where. I ordered their bacon burger with shoestring potato fries. I also ordered at the blue cheese burger with a half and half order of their onion straws, and sweet potato fries. The order took almost 20 minutes. I expected everything to be hot, and fresh. Unfortunately, it was not. Besides were lukewarm coming in the burgers not much hotter than that; which was disappointing at the very least. The ingredients where of great quality. The food was good, but it would have been much better if it was hot. The side came with sauces. Unfortunately, the lids on the sauces were not sealed tight and they were tripping all over my sweet potato fries and onion straws. So I've been trying to hit up every counter in the bay. So far I haven't been disappointed at any of their locations. Maybe a tad bit because this one doesn't give a free topping with yelp check-in. You're burger will always be perfect at The Counter and we all know its because you create your own masterpiece. We came here on a Sunday afternoon. Our order did take a while but its understandable because there are other orders ahead of ours. Our server was nice and very attentive. I know I've mentioned this before but its a good idea to take a few checklist menus home. Fill it out before you go to The Counter. Soon as you are seated and your server comes up to you. The Counter has a lot to offer. From delicious burgers to great bar service, there's a bit of something for whatever you are looking for. Higher end than the typical burger joint, you would be equally likely to find professionals here after work as you would a group of kids focused on noshing on some delicious food. I like the highly customizable nature of burgers here! I found the service to be excellent here. Staff was friendly, helpful, and entertaining. As with any establishment I'm sure it varies depending on time of day, how busy they get, and of course who specifically is helping you... but our experience here was really good. Interior was clean and cute. Overall it gives a nice, pleasant vibe. Works as a date spot as well - which isn't something you can say about many burger joints. We shut the place down, and they were pretty graceful about it. Didn't obnoxiously kick us out or anything but let us finish our last round at a leisurely pace without pressuring us. Appreciate that! With my 3.5 year-old precocious niece in tow, we needed to eat somewhere kid-friendly on 4th of July eve, so we settled on The Counter. Apparently, lots of families with young children had the same idea. Luckily, there was no wait. I wasn't feeling a burger like everyone else in my party, so I ordered the Chicken Parm bowl. I am trying to lower my starchy and refined carbs these days, so I eschewed the bun for nutritious and tasty, seasonal vegetables. Plus my party ordered Loaded Tots as an appetizer, so I was going to get my share of carbs there. I really enjoyed their Chicken Parm. It's almost as good as mine. :) The chicken breast was panko-breaded and was topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Sauteed cherry tomatoes, slices of zucchini and yellow squash and spinach were under the chicken. Very tasty and a generous portion. I had to take half of it home. I would totally order this again. We all shared an order of their Loaded Tots. It was really good. Can't go wrong with Tater tots, cheese and bacon! My niece was very happy with her chicken tenders and french fries. This was on the kids menu, but it can easily feed a grown adult. Her parents had to take most of the chicken home. Service was very good and our food came out in a timely manner. OVER RATED. I am so disappointed in my experience with The Counter this weekend. I have been meaning to try this place for years because I have always heard their burgers were amazing. My takeout order was not good. I ordered the Shishito Jalapeno Burger and Parmesan Fries and both were not good. I opened the box to the burger and I literally said to myself, "What is this?" The presentation was terrible and sloppy. This clearly had nothing to do with transporting the items because the box wasn't overly big and the burger fit fine. To me, I'm sure the people putting together my order were probably like, Hey, who cares its for DoorDash, we wont see the customer anyways. The parmesan fries weren't good either. Cold. I live 5 minutes away from Santana Row, so this also was not a DoorDash error, this was The Counter being sloppy. Maybe one day I will give this place a try again... but not for a while. read more

We have had a few undesirable experiences at this location so far and probably won't be back to it as a result. Each time we went, the food is consistently very slow to arrive. Even on a late Sunday afternoon with maybe 3-4 other tables in the restaurant, it took a good 20-30 minutes for 2 burgers. And they generally get the cooking wrong on our burgers. I've ordered mine medium rare most times and received a burger that was brown throughout and not at all juicy. Service is usually hit or miss, and we have skipped out on ordering dessert in the past because the rest of the meal took forever to order / arrive / get the server for a dessert order. Try one of the other Counter locations, as I don't recall having these sorts of issues all the time at the Stevens Creek one. read more

I'm a big fan of The Counter's build your own burger concept. They have so many varieties of meats and non-meats to choose from, and with so many combinations, it never gets old coming here. I love to bring my veggie friends to try the Impossible Burger and see their reaction of how freakin' real it tastes. I also love all the sauce choices. My favorite build is the Impossible burger, pesto, artichoke hearts, olives, pickles, and pretty much all the other free veggie add-ons. This burger goes great with a boozy milkshake for extra gluttony. The birthday cake milkshake, is not only tasty, but also does the trick. We are regulars of the kind who visit once every 2-3 months. The burgers here are out of the world! However, the service is very hit and miss. Depends on which server attends to you. You expect an efficiency of service from a "chain", especially if the expectation is of a 15-20% tip. Some days we are just blown away by the attention to detail, and some days they can not be bothered to attend to us - no water refills, a long wait in billing, etc. Maybe online ordering and delivery is a big part of their revenue stream so they don't care as much about physical customers. I came in with my friends on a Friday night around 9:15pm. We all finished working out and we were hungry! We were seated after about 15 minutes. We all decided to just get water and two of the waters were sparkling. It was weird. How do you get ice water wrong? After we ordered our food, it took 45 minutes to get our food! We all ordered salads! It wasn't even that busy. They even forgot to put some of the toppings we wanted in our salads. Our server apologized for the mistakes, but that kitchen needs some help. I came on my birthday (Feb 4). Sadly our check in experience was terrible --a sign of poor management or training. I called and asked for a table for two and was told I would be put on the list. I arrived and was not on the list. I was not the only one. A party of seven (including several kids) walked in later - they said they had called and were also not on the list. The excuse given to both parties was that the staff probably got busy and forgot. While waiting, I called to try to find out what happened, and I was told the restaurant doesn't take wait list calls. I understand if a restaurant does not take reservations, but the policy should be clear and understood by all staff. There was also some confusion about the free birthday shake you receive when you register for the loyalty program. I was first told the shake was free, and then told that they couldn't find my membership (even though I had a printout of my account number) and needed to charge me for the shake. It's not fair to offer something for free and then tell someone they have to pay! Ultimately, after more digging, they were able to locate my account and the shake was offered to me for free. The meal itself - my veggie burger, fries, and shake, was fantastic, and our service was friendly and prompt. I've hard the counter burgers before at airports and they are not bad if you are in a pinch but I've never been to a restaurant before. I usually hit up Veggie Grill if I'm in the mood for a veggie burger but I thought I would expand my horizons a bit and give it a shot. Let's start with what is good here. The place is modern and well lit and it was not crowded and easy to order. There are plenty of tables and a long bar with many seats. Also the staff is responsive and very friendly overall. So far so good. So I basically looked over the veggie burger options and I noticed they had two burgers to choose from. One is their in house burger I've had before which is ok but now they offer an impossible burger as a choice. I asked the waiter which he recommended of the two and he said the impossible one because they can custom cook the veggie patty to how well you want them to cook it. I've had both impossible and Beyond burgers before and I've found some places make them pretty good so went with that option. The burgers by the way come default with not vegan goat cheese and mayo so if you want vegan cheese you need to ask for it. Also the shoestring fries are vegan but the onion rings are not. Also the burgers are all individual meaning everything you order to go with the burger costs extra. So here is how the pricing went for a basic impossible burger. They charge a $4 up charge for the impossible burger on top of the base price of $13 and that's for the burger alone with nothing else. Then they ask what you want to add with your burger. I decided to go for for the side salad which was another $3. I added jalapenos and vegan cheese and not sure if that was an extra charge. I also got the vegan bun. All I know is it was when all said and done pushing $25 with the tax. This better be a really good veggie burger. Food came out really quickly which is nice but also was a little worrying. So the first thing I see is a bunch of white melted creamy looking cheese on the burger and it didn't look like vegan cheese so I asked them if they took out the mayo and subbed the cheese. I guess the order didn't get relayed correctly so they apologized and sent it back. That's fine things happen but then like 3 minutes later they gave me a new burger with the vegan cheese. Cool and great but I started to wonder if the bun was the right one also because their normal that comes with the burger is not vegan. Asked and they said it was indeed vegan so I dug in. My first impression of the burger was it was slightly cold inside and raw. Now I did order medium rare as normally with the beyond burger it comes out great. This was a bit different. The burger was extremely greasy on the outside almost like the burger was deep fried. The cheese also looked fried and was also really greasy. The taste of the burger was a bit strange. I'm not sure how to explain it but it had an off taste to me. I think that the inside was not cooked probably enough and maybe without enough heat it tastes not good just raw I don't know. Now it wasn't horrible as I ate the whole thing. I also wished I got the fries as the salad was super small in a tiny cup and not even worth the 3 bucks. The bun wasn't bad but not anything fancy. I'm glad I added the jalapenos because at least there was some crunch. They put very little lettuce and tomato on the bottom so it was not my preference. All the pictures of the regular burgers are stacked super high with all kinds of fixings, not this veggie burger. Finally what was a bit strange is after I was finished with the burger no one came by to take my money. They leave the bill right after you order but then they don't really follow up after that. There was like a few staff that had burgers made for them and were taking time out to eat at other tables. The guy helping me disappeared so I asked another staff to take my credit card. Later when I was leaving I saw they guy waiting on me outside talking on his cell phone. I guess he was also on a break. He didn't wave goodbye or anything even though I tried to signal to him like hey dude see ya later :) I think I will stick to Veggie Grill when going for another burger in this plaza. I met a friend here at 5pm on a Friday. The restaurant wasn't crowded and I was seated right away which was great. They have a Happy Hour from I believe 3-6pm M-F, and I ordered the Buffalo cauliflower and a glass of Rosé. I like that they have asterisks next to all of the Happy Hour items on the main menu. That makes it easy to navigate. The cauliflower was wildly underwhelming- it was heavily breaded and undercooked. I ended up taking 85% of the breading off and eating basically raw cauliflower just because I didn't want to waste it all. For dinner I ordered a turkey patty on organic mixed greens with quinoa, roasted red bell pepper, mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, avocado, herbed goat cheese, and lemon vinaigrette. It was good and very filling. The service wasn't very good. I'm not sure if they're understaffed, but it lacked. I wouldn't be excited to return. read more
