Overall when it comes to flavor, I wouldn't say this place is a particularly special burger place, but it's as good as a high quality burger place. I can order vegetarian burgers here though, so that is a plus for me. I first ordered a kale salad which tasted good but pretty typical. I then ordered the Impossible Burger and split it with my sister. Customers have many ingredients to choose from to put in the Impossible Burger but we told the waitress we wanted the exact one in the picture. The service was great because she just filled out the menu for us and we got the exact burger we wanted! Even though the patty is vegetarian, it tasted quite similar to real meat in my opinion. The burger was juicy and delicious. We also ordered a birthday cake flavored milk shake which tasted great as well, like a typical milkshake would. We were allowed to eat with our dogs beside us too! I LOVE this place! Recently I started a gluten free, dairy free, corn & soy free kick (I know it seems like a lot but it's been great!) and they have a bunch of options for me to choose from still! They are so friendly here, their burgers taste so natural and I would come everyday if I could stomach a burger everyday! lol I don't know anyone that has a bad thing to say about this place! Parking is decent, I say decent because they ALWAYS have so many people that come here! Lol it may be best if you park in the lot next door for Chilis or the structure for Safeway. I was in the area running errands and my stomach started growling at me. I figured I needed to find a place close by for food, also to sit and watch The Warriors game. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Abha. I sat down at the bar and Chloe, the bartender, came right over to drop off menus and ask me if I had been here before and to take my drink order. I let her know that I had been to The Counter before at Santana Row and proceeded to order a beer from her. I noticed they had Fieldwork Brewery on tap and ordered a tall, 20 ounce, beer. I found their menu very easy to understand even when creating my own item. They have lots of options for proteins like the organic bison patty, which is what I chose. My food came out quick and not only looked amazing, but was delicious and definitely satiated my hunger. The general manager, Peter, stopped by about midway through my meal and asked how everything was. I really enjoyed how attentive the staff was and how clean the restaurant was from the front, to the bar, and especially the restroom. I am ecstatic about the service everyone provided, the food, and just the experience overall. I would definitely love to come back and try more of their menu items and would 100% recommend this place to anyone who comes across it. read more

I like this Counter location. I can get some food shopping done at the Safeway and then pick up a burger to go. I appreciate being able to customize the burger. The burger itself was tasty. I had the multi-grain bun, I wanted something different from the brioche. Neither are perfect for me but maybe I like the multi-grain better. I warmed the burger and fries at home in the microwave and everything was fine! read more

They add a 20% service charge which is pretty much a gratuity. This means your server can ignore you and give bare minimum service (which happened) and still receive a great tip. It's an insult to the service industry. They also tried to not put the happy hour items on the bill as happy hour price, we had to bring it up and then it was adjusted for us. read more

And the worst part is, when we asked them why it took an hour to get our food, they responded by saying, "Well, it took about 40 minutes to be exact from we got your order." Umm... I also loved the marriage between the honey dijon sauce and the beefiness of the burger, elevating the taste into complete decadence! The only downside, though, was my choice of pretzel buns; too hard to bite into...oops :( The fifty-fifty ($5.50) we ordered - half sweet potato fries and half onion strings - were nothing special. The fries were under seasoned and the string onions not crispy and even a little too greasy. The regular fries, however, were delicious!! I've written reviews on The Counter before for other locations. So I'm using this as an update as I've eaten them over the years. -Brand new Menu design. Comes with new prices, new standard choices, etc. -No more Daiya Vegan Cheese. The most disappointing change I saw. -"Just Mayo" added to condiment list. So if you're vegan, you, too, can be gluttonous as your omnivore counterparts. -Ciabatta still the only vegan bun option. I'm getting a bit tired of it. -1 sauce per burger. Unlimited toppings. But the more you choose, the less you get of each one. -More and more local brews being added to their tap and beer list. Yes! This location has the same comforts as other Counters you know. Still has bar seating and outdoor seating. Still usually has a wait as it gets very crowded in this popular neighborhood. I had wonderful service despite the rush. read more

I am a big fan of the Counter burger franchise. Therefore the franchise has added a brand new restaurant inside the revamped San Antonio shopping plaza in Mountain View. On my debut of the newest restaurant, I ordered the Southern-style Fried Chicken Sandwich which is the sandwich of the month for September. For $9.95, I get Buttermilk brined fried breast with a spicy jalapeno cheese, Vinaigrette cole slaw in a brioche bun. The chicken piece is very crunchy and combined very well with the other condiments. This sandwich is one of the better tasting chicken sandwich I have eaten in a long time. I wished the Counter will continue to offer the specialty sandwich all the time. There are no combo meals with this sandwich. Therefore I also ordered the Garlic and Parmesan Fries and a Banana Cream Pie milkshake, which is also Milkshake of the month. Every visit to the Counter, I always order the Garlic Fries because it is my favorite and my kryptonite. The milkshake had a very tasty banana flavor. But the Nila wafer decoration on my milkshake was very soggy and tasted old. But that is minor and I still enjoyed my meal. The bar has a very nice setup with a good selection of wines, top-rated spirits, updated bottled beers and 12 different kinds on tap. Tried the Grilled Caesar with Chicken at the Mountain View location. Here's the menu description:. grilled romaine * 100% natural chicken breast * shredded parmesan * housemade garlic croutons * drizzled with creamy caesar. Cost=$13.00 It was an epic fail--unless the chef was trying to insult me for ordering a salad at a burger joint. To say it was drizzled with dressing was an understatement. It tasted more like the bottle of dressing was just teasingly waved over the top--dry and bland. In a misguided attempt to be avant garde with an old classic, The Counter not only grills your chicken, but your lettuce too. The lettuce was warm and wilted, and served as one whole head. The parmesan cheese and croutons were all but MIA. To add injury to this insult, I returned to work with my takeout order only to find that I was only given only a plastic knife; no fork, no napkins. After seeing seeing so many outstanding reviews on my yelp news feed on The Counter caughter my eye. Even though this is a little bit of a drive away from my work. I made a point of driving there for to try this place out. I went on Holloween 31st and some of the workers where dressed up so famously. The Counter is very trendy, new, as I walked in I was greated with the most happy employee. I was by myself so I sat at the bar. They have a full stocked bar that has a big screen tv for the customer to enjoy. I must say my Server Destiny was bright, happy and was very intriuging. First time here and how it works is you build your Burger. They give you a check off list where you can mark everything you would like on your burger. Made to order ! Price: GREAT PRICE Food: I order a Regular size hamber and is was Meat was HUGE. For the price this is a great buy. The burger was tastey, seasoned topped with my ordered cheese. The bun was toasty, Fries : shoe string fries. outstanding, I was very happy with the whole meal. I had to get my meal to go reason : I only had a hour for lunch, I took most of the time driving to the Counter. So I asked for my meal to go... The standard Counter from LA formula. It's a newer space in San Antonio Shopping Center and they appear to have updated their menu with more custom expert combinations and smaller side orders of fries. I wasn't particularly excited by the addition of Counter Burger as we have one just down the street in Palo Alto. If a Shake Shack had opened up that would have been another story. However, this place is popular as lines were out the door when we left. Our order: Birthday Shake - they offer several custom shakes as well as build your own. Flavors were pretty good and the ice cream seemed good quality. Counter Burger - 1/3 lb patty with bleu cheese and decided to top with a fried egg ($1). Burger was nicely medium rare but the bun was a bit hard. Southeast Ahi Tuna Burger - served rare but came out a bit cold. The slaw on top was flavorless but they give you a soy sauce and sriracha chili sauce that is more sweet than hot. Overall disappointing at $13 and def no match for Gott's down the street. Skinny Fries and Sweet Potato Fries - two side orders. They serve a lot of these. Not bad. Overall, for fans of the Counter this is just one more spot with slightly less lines than the rest. Not particularly big but service was fine but can get overwhelmed with the crowds. For me, food was just ok with the burger being better than the ahi tuna. It was one of those off days. I believe there were new guys in the kitchen and everything was slow. It took an hour for food to arrive at the table. The manager and the server checked on us every now n then and also gave us a huge discount for the delay. As a big chain like counter who's usually consistent could have managed the situation better, like taking in less people or telling them that they are understaffed and the food will delay while seating us. I give 3 stars for this miscommunication. Food - All 3 in my group were vegetarians. The most beautiful fried egg you can imagine was made here (just look at my pic). -Also, the "Shoestring Fries" are to die-for. They were so good, I had to order some to-go. I recommend eating them fresh though as they got a little soggy after bringing them home - you could pop them in the mini-oven though. First, they added an automatic 20% service fee and just slipped it onto the receipt!! Rather than price an item at $10, why not just price it at $12 and be honest?? If you want to give that extra $2 to the employees, that's up to you. Second, the sales tax appeared to be about 11% of the bill??? That's odd, because Santa Clara County sales tax is about 9%. I asked them to explain. They think the sales tax is also on the 20% service fee!!! So they're charging tax on the tip?! Who is cooking their books? Peter, the owner, set up a free friends & family practice lunch and dinner session today (6/14). Grand opening - Monday, June 17th. I was half-expecting for things to not go so smoothly, being that this was a "practice" day. But I really didn't care because I was getting a FREE lunch. But to my happy surprise, everything went perfectly! Kudos to this team for being so well trained before the opening. I can't tell you how many other places I've banned for a few months before I bother to try them once they open. The location is great. It is quite spacious and very open, especially compared to The Counter in Santana Row. That one feels way too crowded and cramped (still love it tho). They have a great patio area, where the General Manager came by to let us know will soon have a fire pit and TVs! While my burger took a bit longer than expected, honestly, I understand that they were really busy and it was the first day. That didn't put any kind of damper on my experience. This place is more upscale in ambiance than a regular burger joint. I had Wagyu beef with brie, apple strings and sliced figs. I thought the burger was cooked nicely and you can be creative with the array of choices for toppings. The combination of fig and brie was amazing. However, the apple strings made the burger too wet. Visited this location last night with my S/O and our nephew. We were seated as soon as we entered, since the restaurant was fairly empty. It took a while for a waitress to come to our table. Eventually, one did and we were able to order our drinks, appetizers, and entrees. We ordered the 50/50 of parmesan and shoestring fries and custom burgers. The fries took less than 10 minutes to be brought out us. The shoestring fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned, while the parmesan fries came out to be disappointingly soggy. Our burgers were served fairly quickly after the fries. These were good, but a few items were left off our order - nephew's extra order of BBQ sauce and my grilled onions. We wanted to call our waitress back to our table to correct the order, but she was nowhere to be found! We finished our food anyways and ordered a few appetizers to go, since it was happy hour. So been going to the Palo Alto location for years, with many good to great experiences. When this one opened up we gave it a try. Since it's a chain, we thought it would be the same. ... um no. First time the fries were underdone and when we asked for a redo the waitress was rude. Second time we sat at the bar and they let a kid sit there, which I though was illegal. I have nothing against kids in general, but I was having a very adult conversation and a beer with a friend so that put the breaks on that. I've been passing this restaurant on El Camino so many times, I've lost count. I also live near here. One sunny afternoon, my boyfriend suggested that we grab dinner at the Counter. I was hesitant at first: I'm not a big fan of burgers, as greasy food upsets my stomach, but he informed me that I could custom-make my burger and choose healthier meats and toppings. I was convinced and off we went! :) I'm glad I'm such a good listener... :P This is located in a lot next to Safeway. The parking lot is small so parking could become more limited later in the day. When we entered, the restaurant had a nice setup. Some of the tables could be further apart-- especially after eating my burger, it was more difficult for me to squeeze through :) The hostess hands you a folder and explains the process of ordering a custom-made burger. I ordered a turkey burger with soft-ripened brie cheese and an overload of toppings, and my boyfriend ordered the same but with beef, and a side of shoe-string fries. The turkey burger that I ordered was tasty -- all the toppings and sauce complimented each other. It was a nice balance between sweet and salty. My boyfriend thought I was crazy for adding so many toppings on my burger (I like 'em with a load of veggies!), but it turned out quite delightful! So don't be coy with the toppings, after all, they were unlimited. The brie was semi-melted on the patty, and it heightened the taste of the burger. The fries were delicious, and I wished we had ordered a bigger portion to share between us. However, the portion of the burger was perfect for me. So why the 3 stars? Read on.. I was telling my boyfriend that if I ever become a waitress, I'd apply for a position at the Counter. We waited for 20 minutes for somebody to pick up our check, and our server never returned. He just disappeared? Because I never saw sight of him again, I had asked the busser to give me a take-out box, and she shot me a glare twice, even after she gave it to me. Thanks lady! The patrons seated next to us also commented on the slow-paced customer service, and the gentleman walked up the manager (who was at the bar located in the middle of the restaurant), and informed him about this issue. They were kind and also told a different server about our check, who kindly retrieved it, but he still didn't return to us with our payment. So what next? A female staff noticed the disgruntled look on our faces, as well as the table next to ours, and asked us on how we were doing. When my boyfriend voiced that we were waiting too long for our payment, that was when we finally received it. She sincerely apologized, but she wasn't our server, so she's not the one to blame. The manager was the one who handed my boyfriend the slip. Took my wife out for a casual lunch here. We actually liked this place quite a bit. I got the burger bowl which I actually think is an ingenious idea! I prefer the protein and veggies without the extra carbs so it was perfect for me. Add a nice egg for a couple bucks and its a perfect meal. They have this huge list of dips and sauces and relishes for your burger so it really gives a pretty healthy number of combinations. Not a bad bar either, couple of interesting drafts on tap. The seating was a little weird only because the place was largely empty but the still say us in a crowded bench area lined with tables which meant we were sandwiched between a mom with her two small kids and two other people trying to have their own quiet lunch even tho there were nice tables and booths totally open. The hubs & I were excited to hear that The Counter has opened in Mountain View so we drove on down to give it a try! We already had expectations of yummy burgers in our mind when we arrived. Parking was a pain in the butt, especially with all the eco-friendly car spaces & not enough regular parking spaces. We ended up parking near the grocery store (Safeway?) & walking over. We waited about 20 minutes since I guess everyone wanted a piece of the new The Counter. Service was great overall from the hostess to the waitress. Our waitress was attentive & so were the other staff, refilling our waters, getting us more condiments & checking up on us in general. All the staff seemed happy to be working. I ordered the unique veggie burger since I loved it at the Santana Row location. When it arrived, I cut it in half & took a bite out of it. It didn't taste as flavorful as the one I had had at Santana Row :( Not only was it kind of bland, it also fell apart so much that I resorted to eating it with a fork & knife. The 50/50 regular fries & onion strings were absolutely delish though as an appetizer! Overall, not sure if I'd come back, but I may since they just opened & should give them the benefit of the doubt. We'll see. Great customer service though! read more

XOXO I love that their burgers are super customizable but sometimes too many choices can be overwhelming! Haha... especially when it comes to the sauce. Thankfully, they serve their burgers with sauce on the side. Sauces - I like the honey dijon! and the horse radish ( at first I was skeptical, but it turned out great). I've experienced better... at the Palo Alto location! Surely this place is having some opening pains, too much too fast, but other problems are just about management decisions. When we arrived, we were told it would be 25 minutes. It was closer to 45, and graciously the manager comp'd us with a free appetizer. Which was really nice! We were really hungry though. The bigger issue is that it's MORE EXPENSIVE than the Palo Alto location. Palo Alto doesn't have the same premium cheeses, so I can get brie or goat cheese without getting the price jacked up. That's my biggest complaint about the Palo Alto location as well-- that everywhere you turn, there's an extra 50 cent or 1.00 charge for the bowl, or the sauce, or the type of fries, or whatever. I have worked in this area for over a year, today was my first experience at the counter. My party of 4 arrived at around 12:45 and we were seated within 5 min (Excellent) we were offered a patio seat, the day was beautiful and the patio setting was very nice, clean and well maintained. We finished ordering at 1pm, nothing extraordinary (chicken sandwich, bison burger, gluten free burger, sandwich and some fries) The food arrived at 1:40 which seemed a bit long especially since the lunch rush ended at the time we ordered (place was pretty empty). The order was fairly complete although the bison burger was not prepared as ordered, the issue was quickly resolved. I had the gluten free burger, which I thought was perfectly cooked and the condiments were fresh and tasty. The gluten free bun as most gluten free bread, fell apart and all but disintegrated after the second bite. The bill was around $70 for 4 burgers and fries without drinks. The experience was ok, had the service been faster and order been correct I would have given this place 4 stars. read more

Not a big fan of this place. It's my second time and a couple years in between but I realized why. Food is very blah for a burgers joint. This time I order a chicken sandwich with chili as a side. My provolone cheese reminded me of melted plastic. Yuck! Pathetic slices of chicken on small sourdough bread slices. Not impressed. T'was a dark and rainy day in Mountain View. While the rain would deter most from leaving the warm, comfortable sanctums of their homes, the Pokemon were out in full force. And lo, I was beckoned to brave the rain and... dare I say... catch them all. Miles and miles of walking, spinning pokestops, catching pokemon, the light was disappearing from the cloudy skies and my entourage and I were feeling famished. We needed sustenance. We needed a dry place to rest our aching bodies, lest we collapse into sopping remnants of human beings... Just then, we saw it... there, in the distance on W El Camino Real, The Counter! We were saved! We dragged our rain-soaked personages through the door and we were shown a booth where to rest our weary feet. Our server, our caretaker, if you will, for the duration of our epic feast was Elmer. A meaty, beefy mountain of a man. Aside from the excellent service, he was quite friendly, and funny. I love their concept of being able to customize your own burger. You decide on how it's cooked, the kind of patty you want (beef, chicken, fish or veggie) all the way down to your sauce and other add-ons. The french fries were fairly average in flavor but Frankly, I expected more out of the burger. I'd ordered the beef patty and at first bite It lacked that traditional charbroiled flavor that most Burgers contain. Although the patty was filling and juicy - it lacked that special little 'kick'. As for the service, I have NO COMPLAINTS! We were greeted with a smile as soon as we entered the door & our server was informative and quick. 5 stars on the service! The manager took care of us because both of our food didnt come on time. It showed that they truly cared about our experience there. Also, I got a free burger up to $12 for my birthday . The fries are good. You can choose all the toppings to fit in your salad. The salad was good. Very healthy options. However,the grape tomato on my salad was not the freshest one that i have ever eaten though. (it has seen better days) The burger was good. read more
