The crab boil was ok... it tasted like it was just dipped in butter ... won't be returning

Picked up a to go order and did have to drive 15 minutes home. Bun on the crab cake sandwich was heavy in butter (soggy) and fries were over cooked. Crab dip was good, reminded us of Big Fish taste. Steamed shrimp was okay. Won't give up but think it might be better to sit and dine rather then take out. Will try again. Expensive but so are the other crab shack restaurants in the area. read more

I went to the crab shack on 3/2/23 about 5pm and I only barbecued chicken wings. After about a hour or so my stomach felt like it was in knots and I started having pains i my stomach. Then the trips to the bathroom all night happened. So I then called crab shack to speak to a manager about the situation first thing comes out her mouth is there's no way you got sick that fast. I didn't know it was a time limit on getting food poisoning. So the manager goes on to tell me the food is prepared then put back into the freezer until someone orders it. My question was how long was the food sitting out prior to going back into the fridge. I'm never eating her read more

The crab were spoiled. It was like tuna fish...my stomach was cramping the whole night.

Too expensive for the portion and quality of the dishes. We were not impressed and will probably not return to this restaurant.

Compare to the other restaurants that has the same menu it doesn't compete. Nice atmosphere but the menu is terrible as compared to other that have steam pots. It would be great if they would step their menu up and be more creative. Check out you competition and retool your menu. read more

I was craving crawfish and boiled seafood and figured we could try this place since it was new. When we looked at the menu there were a few red flags for seafood boil lovers- the shrimp comes tail off, head off, the seafood is only sold by the half pound- but we were there and hungry so we tried it. Unfortunately, we should have listened to the red flags bc it was the worst boil I have ever had. The shrimp being naked was not how I like it and it tasted under cooked, the crawdads were tough and chewy on top of being small, and the flavor was tasteless. I feel like the difference in the levels of done-ness was bc they cooked both the shrimp and crawdads in the same bag (which you typically shouldn't do esp when one is shelled and the other isn't). Honestly the flavor is what threw me off the most. They offered the typical flavors and had spice levels. I love Cajun spice but usually with boils I get a lighter spice flavor bc as you may know too much will burnnnnnnn. So I ordered the garlic butter option in the mild spice like I usually do at other places (expecting something fairly neutral but with the same Cajun taste I love and that is indicative of boils) but what I got was literally a bag of crawfish and shrimp in only garlic and butter, no Cajun seasoning. I tried adding old bay but it didn't help. After spending $100 on our meals we push through but we were very disappointed. My mom has had the lobster roll here and said it was great so I would suggest coming here for items like that and not boils. read more

we decided to go back to the the crab shack crofton; we ordered the catfish basket, pollock basket, fried oysters, crab balls, & crab legs. catfish basket----- was delicious !!! pollock basket ----- was delicious !!! fried oysters---- was delicious !!! crab balls ---- was delicious !!! crab legs ------ was delicious !!! the food was outstanding to say the least . the only request i currently see would to have the ability to order fish (such as catfish, pollock etc.) and other seafood al la carte. i believe this would increase their orders also ; especially with the different diets out today (most today have to limit their carb intake) . plus it will allow people to order more of what they want. i definitely recommend this restaurant !!! read more

I've ordered from here a few times and have gotten a seafood boil twice (I think they call them Cajun boils). The first boil was good. Two nice size potatoes, a good portion of shrimp and scallops (I got half a pound for each), I had no complaints. However the second time made me not want to go order from here ever again. If you put the two potatoes together, they would've fit inside a standard egg with room to spare. Also this time I only got four scallops. I'm not sure what scale they use but I've ordered half a pound of scallops before from here and other places and it's never been just four. One top of that I could get a fuller boil for cheaper at places closer to me. I thought this place was over priced after a sandwich and fries cost $30-$35 (I can't remember how much exactly) but it was worth it because it tasted like quality but now I lowkey think they're just out here scamming people. Wowza! Had Large crab cake sandwich and 12 "regular" oysters. Hard to figure out how they held the crab cake together. Super amazing. Oysters were super tasty and sized just right. Highly recommend!! read more

Went to The Crab Shack today for the first time for lunch and it was awesome! My sisters and I all got "The Shack Crab Cake" 1/2 lb and it was truly all lump crab meat with barely any filler and was crazy delicious. I am a Marylander and very picky about my crab cakes, and this one was top notch! Loved it! We got the coleslaw side which was also good, and I have to mention the amazing Key Lime pie we had for dessert. Yummy! They had shaded outdoor seating and the service was friendly and excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back. Their happy hour specials look amazing. read more

To keep it shot, shrimp were bad, chicken was dry one time i came in and undercooked the second. Seating is weird and unorganized. Crabs were OK. The bartender sucks, didn't know how to make 2 drinks i wanted and when i explained them, he skimped in the alcohol. I ordered curbside takeout. When I got there I called the number on the curbside sign and was ask to come in pick up my order bc they were understaffed. I'm a reasonable person. That was a minor inconvenience, but I gave them a pass on that. The pickup wait was longer than I'd like to wait for an order already ready. I was excited for the boil but when I got home the crab legs were rubbery & the shrimp were definitely frozen & seemed precooked. They only had the tail on them. The sauce broke my heart & raised my blood pressure. It was a salty watery mess. I wasted $41 bc I had to throw that bag in the trash. read more

Wasn't pleased at all. The Oyster PoBoy bread was bready, the oysters were bready too and were very salty. Poor product. The fried whiting was disgusting. This fish was grey in color and too much coating. The only good thing were the fries. I don't recommend this place at all if you like good tasting seafood. The previous restaurant in that space was way better tasting. Better chefs before. Update your chefs Crab Shack if you plan to stay in business. read more

Went to this restaurant once and it was ok. Good but still not as good as another local crab boil place. Got an email about the Father's Day special and decided to try it again.I am so glad we did. The crab was large, the corn was a whole piece that tasted fresh instead of frozen, and the sauce was amazing. This moved to our new favorite crab boil place.!!!!! read more

We ordered delivery. The cheese sticks were good. So we're the fries. The catfish was soggy and had a strong fishy taste so needless to say it wasn't fresh. I won't be ordering the cat fish sandwich again and don't recommend it. read more

When you first walk in there are no employees to seat you. No signs, just stuff written in chalk. Finally, an employee shows up and tells us we can sit anywhere we want, then come to the counter to order. We order the valentine's day special, which is a seafood Boil for two. When the food comes out, It's in a bag, on a tray. We ask one of the employees if we are supposed to just dump it on the table. She says yes. Well, we have two small tables pushed together, so I know the liquid is going through the crack between the tables and on the floor. I ask if you usually get the brown paper to put on the table. The employee says some people do. We definitely do, so she brings us paper for the table. Food wasn't bad. Lobster tails were really small. The advertised corn and red potatoes were one ear of corn cut in half and three whole potatoes (They could have at least quartered the potatoes). Need salt for the corn and potatoes. Salt is in the plastic bag with the plastic knife and fork. Very small pack of salt. not nearly enough for this meal. But the only way to get more salt is to get more plasticware. First time here and probably our last. read more

If you like paying a ton of money for sub par seafood, this is the place! It's fairly new in my town, so my husband & I decided to give it a try. DISGUSTING! We were utterly dissatisfied with the order (we did not receive all we paid for), and the flavoring---or, lack thereof. We don't foresee this restaurant lasting long. We always drive by this restaurant without much thought, but my husband and I decided to try it out today and WOW, what a pleasant surprise. The food was delicious. At usually do seafood at a local place in Bowie or a place in Edgewater, which is our favorite, but I don't think we'll need to drive out there again. We had crab cake sandwich, Lobster roll, cream of crab soup and a salad. The soup was amazing with nice lumps of crab. The Lobster roll was meaty and well stuffed and seasoned just right to allow you to enjoy the Lobster. The Crab cake sandwich had a sizeable portion of crab cake filling and was also tasty. The only letdown was the fries served with the sandwiches. They were soggy, soft and didn't taste fresh. The price was average for good seafood and we intend to go back soon for more finger licking food. read more

We usually order from another local crab place but we wanted to support a new restaurant a try given the times and were ultimately disappointed. CONS: The crab soup offers lots of crab but was too thick, the kids tenders seemed like a frozen chicken and not fresh, the fries were soggy and greasy, we asked for a side of Mac and cheese but never received it, the lobster and crab melt was filled with seafood but salty, the coleslaw substitute that was requested was not provided but instead the potatoes salad was given, which was bland. PROS: location, easy curbside pick up, wonderful tasty grilled wings, key lime pie was homemade, onion rings were good and the burger was good. All in all disappointed but I will order the wings and key lime pie from them again. read more

I Went last night to get something To eat a friend told me about them so when u walk in it's tells u to seat your self I seat at a table for about 15 mins nobody came to me so decide to just go to the bar to order and just eat there. So I order popcorn shrimp that was mushy and nasty then I also. Order crab did which was actually good and also ordered wings that were suppose to be lemon pepper they were definitely nasty no taste at all and the wings wasn't done in the middle ... then the bar tender didn't know what she was going make me a Drink it was honestly no liquor in it only taste line and lemon juice trash the cook was in the back eating food u can see him while I was at the bar eating it's was just bad experience I won't be going back at all .. read more

Dropped in for dinner on a recent weeknight. Good service, and the Caesar salad w/ grilled shrimp & key lime pie were superb!

So first it took what felt like forever to get our food and after all the anticipation it was a huge let down. I ordered a fish basket thinking how could I go wrong with that, it literally was fish sticks from the grocery store. My mom ordered a shrimp basket that was supposedly a customer favorite but the shrimp was super overcooked and the slaw had no taste. Really nothing had taste, won't be back. read more

I felt racially profiled at the Crofton location. I ordered an item that the cashier did not ring up and I didn't realize it. My party of 3 had ordered the item (shrimp) as well. When two of the shrimp orders were delivered to our table the waiter gave me one and gave the other to another friend. When my other friend asked where her shrimp was. He said we didn't have but two orders, can you provide your receipt? She showed him it was on her receipt. He then went and got a manager and she said that it wasn't on my receipt. My friend asked her to please get her shrimp and the manager said she was not going to get her shrimp until I paid for my shrimp. It was happy hour and the shrimp was only five dollars. She insisted that I had to pay first with a big attitude! She would leave our table until I did just that and wouldn't give my friend her shrimp. She acted as though I didn't have the five dollars to pay. If it was a white customer there was no doubt in my mind that she would have not acted in this manner!! I did pay the five dollars but my party definitely heard me order the shrimp. It's not my fault that he didn't ring it up and she should not have had an attitude about it!! I felt she had a attitude because we were African Americans and she thought we were broke!! No lady we are intelligent African American Women with good jobs!!! Don't patronize this restaurant!! Over all not bad. The cream of crab and crab cake are good. Potato salad is mixed with sweet potato and tastes ok. Only bad thing I can say is they give pre-package Kens cocktail and tarter sauce. I would have thought they would have some homemade sauces like Jimmy's Seafood. read more

Very disappointing. Ordered Maryland crab soup and there was hardly any crab. Raw oysters were swimming in cold water. Scallops were over cooked and very gritty. Will not return. Will go back to Fat Boys down the street. read more

I was happy to see a new place took over Big Fish. I am disappointed to say it did not meet my expectations. My clam strips seemed like I mostly got the crumbs of whatever they had left and just the quality of the clam strips was not great, seemed too processed or something, not like you were getting real clam strips, totally not worth the $10. The steamed shrimp was way too salty. I did like the hush puppies. I know we got a kids mac n cheese but it was truly Kraft mac n cheese...not even hooked up and for $6 for the little cup of it...not a good value. I tried to get a drink at the bar, no one payed us any attention or didn't even acknowledge us to say I'll be right with you, so we didn't get drinks. One thing that really bothered us was that they didn't bring your entire order out at once. The runners brought one item at a time, searching for tables making our food make additional rounds around the space and other people before it got to us, then they are trying to read table numbers, they seemed confused. That needs to be improved upon. Sorry to say it's a one and done for me. I normally go to Fat Boys and that is where I will go. read more

Ok, so a couple of family members from out of town and I went to a newly open restaurant, called The Crab Shack, in Crofton, Md so she could get her crab fix. Well she ordered and paid for a half dozen of crabs. A dozen crabs showed up. She asked, are these mine and was told yes. 30 mins or so later, a young lady comes to our table and tells her, "I made a mistake and I need to take 6 crabs, but you can pick them! So, I ask, what are you going to do with them, because you can't sell them. She told me, she was going to put them in the trash. So I said, so you would rather put the crabs in the trash, than to let the customer have the crabs that YOU made the mistake and sent to her? Her response was, well she didn't pay for them, well hell, she didn't go in the back and get them herself either! So my cousin said, ok, I'll pay for them but at a discounted rate, the huzzy said no, I can't do that. But you can put them in the trash? We asked for the manager, she said she was one of the managers! With THIS kind of service, yall just opened, but she is going to "manage" your doors to close before folks realize you exist!!
