A little background on me...I'm a 39 year old man-baby with the heart of a champion and the body of a retired dock worker that's given up on life and is just riding out the next 7-10 years until I die alone in my recliner. The Crossing is one of the best restaurants that I've ever been to in my adult life...and I've been around the block. That's a bold statement, and I say that not just because I did not have to pay the tab. The interior is classy enough to let you know you're about to spend some money, but not intimidating. There is a wall of wine that's there to tell you "Hey dummy. Look at all our wine that you probably (definitely in my case) can't afford. We had a few apps...The toast/onion dip was legit...the octopus was awesome, and i even ate a few bites of beet salad. I hate beets and I even loved that dish. We also had a ravioli appetizer that was one of the greatest things I've ever crammed into my pie-hole. It had truffle shavings that I assumed were frosted flakes, and a flavor that will make you thank your parents for being fertile. I had never tried foie gras, so I gave it a shot. I'm not a fan, but I'm pretty sure the only people that like that stuff have enough money to hunt humans for sport and lawyer their way out of it. That's not me. It reminded me of raw deer meat...moving on My entree was the lamb chops. They were great. Nothing much to say there. It was a simple dish ordered by a simple man that sits down to pee just like everyone else. It was lovely. The bathroom door situation needs to be addressed. They do not have them clearly marked as Mens and Womens. There's a fancy picture on each door, which makes the assumption that I can tell the difference. In true French fashion, The Crossing values the meal experience. Servers are demure yet passionate, and they treat each guest with respect. It seemed stuffy at first, but as we interacted with staff, they interacted too, in concerted and theatric respect and passion for the cuisine. Staff works together well, from server to bartender to server helpers (bussers?). The quarters are small and cozy, in swanky Clayton. We had great luck, as they had Kobe Wagyu 2oz portions on the appetizer menu. This dish was incredible. We are still dreaming about it. We also received a complementary cheese based soufflé to dip crispy bread pieces, as well as bread and butter. They knew it was my spouse's birthday and had a happy birthday card waiting for him at the table. We were treated well throughout. We chose to do the tasting menu. Every single dish was delicious. Dessert was the least impressive though still quite tasty and beautifully plated. We had four cocktails off the menu and also ordered two dirty martinis. I wanted to love this place, because it is highly reviewed and noted. So, I am a fan - but it didn't blow my mind. I came on graduation weekend, so the usual $35 Classic tasting did not apply and it was incredibly busy. This might have caused the service to be subpar for a restaurant of this caliber. They have the general $50 tasting. I suggest you go for the tasting here, b/c it is what they do best. They also allow you to switch out tasting options from the regular menu and will accommodate any food allergies. The Meal: 1) Homemade delicious tagliatelle. Perfectly al dente. 2) MO Local Trout 3) Delicious Scallops that are not overcooked 4) Wonderful wine pairings 5) Excellent local dessert options The tasting is very sizable and you will never go home hungry. Again, the food is fantastic - but our server was so scattered and didn't check-in on us for drinks. We didn't even get menus when we were seated until I had to ask for them 15m later. The atmosphere is intimate with an older and more experienced clientel, but I suggest you go on a week-day when they are more equipped to handle the size of the group with younger business professionals. My wife and I had the Chef's Grand Tasting Menu for her birthday, and it was out of this world! Undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite meals. Each course was unique and somewhere between "wonderful" and "extraordinary". My wife had the premium (market price) wine pairing, and she was over the moon about it. I also had a sip of each glass, and despite not being a giant wine guy, I was also blown away. Plus, the two cocktails I had (their take on vieux carré, from the menu, and a cognac Sazerac, custom) were extremely good. We left truly filled and euphoric. A friend and I came here for lunch after our workout nearby. It was definitely fancy even for lunch and we definitely felt underdressed even though we changed out of our workout clothes. The waiters are very formal but also very attentive with great suggestions. We both chose pastas which were really good portions for the price. My pasta had a light sauce with peas and prosciutto. It was a little salty but had great flavor. My friend had a bolognaise which was delicious as well. They also have complimentary focaccia which was to die for. My colleagues and I enjoyed a lovely dinning experience at The Crossing while doing business in St. Louis. The restaurant is a bit unassuming from the outside, but the food and service was exceptional. Our party of four all opted for the Premium Tasting Menu - 3 courses with wine pairings for each course and followed by dessert. Our waitress was wonderful, genuine and knowledgeable of the menu, specials and wine pairings. Everybody at our table enjoyed her personality, humor and professionalism. She made us feel very welcomed and never rushed. I enjoyed the potato/leek soup (vichyssoise), followed by tagliolini pasta with mushrooms, and the halibut as the main entree. All were very good, but the halibut was prepared perfectly. Definitely my favorite of all the courses. The wine pairings selected by the waitress were well chosen for the courses. I can't say I loved each wine, but they did have a nice balance with the food. The presentation of each of our courses were beautiful set and creative. Your eyes knew it was good before you ever tasted it! Bravo to the chef! I'd recommend this restaurant for a nice evening out with a friend or date. I'm almost embarrassed to admit the previous time I was here was December 13, 2013. I was treated to the Chef Grand Tasting Menu with Wine Pairings as a Christmas gift. I raved and raved about my meal and the wine pairings to all my foodie friends and family. Ian Froeb had them listed as his #8 on the STL 100 for 2016. This past week I was doing a stay-cation, so I decided to treat myself to some of the better restaurant in STL. I thought of coming here and doing one of their tasting menus again, but opted for a lunch instead. Every once in awhile we, need to treat ourselves and I did with this white linen lunch. I also figured I needed a treat for surviving this election season and voting this morning. When I arrived, I told the hostess I'd be happy sitting at the bar since I did not want to tie up a table for just one person. She informed me they had a table for me and that a large group was taking up the entire bar area. It was nice having a little deuce, all to myself. I could of sat at the bar, but the table of 12 next to it were kind of rowdy. My favorite seafood is Sea Scallops, so I couldn't resist ordering them as my entree. Prior to the scallops, I enjoyed a Romaine Salad. It was chopped, tossed in Bleu Cheese dressing with tomato and bacon. It was the perfect lead in to my favorite seafood. The scallops were served with; pomme purée, vegetables and a light sauce. The menu stated you could have extra vegetables for an additional $4. That is an nice offering for the big eaters. When my entree arrived, the sea scallops were huge and perfectly pan seared. For me the amount of vegetables were the perfect amount along with the pomp puree. The vegetables were a mix of peas, carrots and mushroom caps. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio with my salad and scallops and they served an amazing house made bread that was so good it could also been a dessert. Came here with a few friends on a Monday night and found we were some of the youngest here (we are in our 30s). Service was great and the wine choices were ample, varied and delicious! The menu had so many great options- I personally opted for the Chianti wine, tartare and the duck confit. My s/o got the gnocchi which I loved as much as the duck confit. I had my first experience at The Crossing when I came here for lunch on Thursday. To cut to the chase, The Crossing is fine dining at its best! The service is the primary selling point of this restaurant, and the food is really good also. Here's some pros and cons: Pros: - the hostess was lovely. It was freezing outside when i came in and she offered to check my coat and let me stand by a heater before being shown to my table. She was very patient and pleasant. - My waiter David. David was very kind and patient. I asked if they had sweet tea and his response was "no, but i can make you some." It's a rare occasion that a waiter at a restaurant offers to make you a custom batch of sweetened tea especially for you! When he came back, he not only gave me my glass of tea, but also gave me a small carafe of the same tea. I loved that! Such a simple act that made such a difference. - The food. I had a side caesar salad, the burger, and fries. It was all very good! My burger was cooked to perfection. It's hard to actually get a medium well burger when i order it (which is always), but these folks gave me a TRUE medium well burger and it was excellent! The fries were also well seasoned. - Complimentary bread. And it was good. - The busser was also very friendly. The cons: - A dirty bread plate. After eating most of the complimentary bread, i noticed some scraps of veggies on the plate that had been hidden from view from the bread. It was a little gross to have a dirty plate but it wasn't much so i didn't complain. The bread was still good so not a big deal. - The price. This is fine dining so it was to be expected that the prices are a little higher. Case in point, the burger doesn't come with fries or a side. The sides are sold separately. The side of fries was $4. They were good so I'll allow it. The side salad was $6. I thought that was a little pricey for the small portion, but oh well, it was good. I will definitely come back to the crossing and I highly recommend it if you'd like to experience a really nice dining experience and excellent service. read more

The service was awesome but I came here for the food and it was disappointing. We ordered the Chef's Grand Tasting. The sauces on each course was too sweet except for the pasta. It tasted like the chef used the same sauce for some of the courses. The pasta and the desert were the best part of the eight course meal. I had high hopes for the lamb chops but it was not cooked as I liked it to be. These chops were too chewy and the sauce was overpowering the star of the course, the lamb. The ambiance was soso. The food looks good on my photos but it was didn't give my stomach pleasure as other course menus I've experienced. Sad to say it was a waste of money. The Chef's Grand Tasting was not grand at all. The chef didn't even greet us, an action we've been used to in other restaurants, as they would inquire how their meal was. But at least we tried something new in the area. read more

This is truly one of the best dining establishments in St. Louis. The tasting menu is a must do! I love trying a variety of food items when I go out and the tasting menu offers four courses. The service is also second to none as the team works together wonderfully to keep drinks filled, cutlery needed current, and to clear plates. The best part is the dining is so relaxed, I have eaten here multiple times and never once felt rushed plus the time between courses gives time to process a dish before moving onto the next. We came here on NYE. Our service was great the waitress was a doll and I had no issues with that. The food is underwhelming and I think over priced. My tenderloin was small and lacked flavor: the pasta course was slimy and the broth was too strong. Salad was good. The crème brûlée which I would've loved to order was ruined by adding ginger. I got blackberry sorbet. Meh. For the cost of the food I would think they could update the interior, it is dated with diff light fixtures and no consistent design or ambience. Same as it was 15 years ago. The other restaurant they own is Acero and that is one of my favorite places. They are very nice here but I'm not rushing back. read more

Another great meal at The Crossing. I'm a frequent diner at this spot, more often for lunch which is always good. The soups are consistently delicious. I enjoyed a dinner here on a Saturday evening. Phil took great care of us through the meal, both with a selection of an Italian wine and through the menu. The fresh chilled corn soup was terrific, as was the heirloom tomato salad which was an ample supply on the plate. Each of us had one of the specials, the sea bass with its accompaniments. So many things on this menu I always want to try because I know it will be tasty. I'll be back. It's also a priority of mine to support local well-managed establishments. The food is excellent, but many negatives far outweigh that. Parking is a hassle - hardly any is available within a block and a half. The restaurant is very small and too damn noisy! They need some acoustic sound absorption panels on the walls to control it. The menu is limited and prices are 20-40% higher than what you'd pay at similar upscale restaurants in the St. Louis area. The bathroom situation is totally inadequate with only one toilet for men and one for women in the entire place, to be shared by both customers and all staff. The men's room needs a lot of help. There's no soap available and the floor is filthy and sticky because of all the pee on it! And our visit wasn't even on a weekend! And on top of those things, of course the restaurant is understaffed, so service is slow. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table although we arrived at our reservation's time. The only way we would ever go back to this restaurant is if it were to move to a larger, more accessible location. read more

We went here last night for my boyfriends birthday and they were wonderful. Our waiter (I cannot remember his name) really took care of us: he was personable, but didn't overstay his welcome. We got the tasting menu- beet salad, octopus, sea bass, and the molten hazelnut cake. It was all delicious. I loved the hazelnut cake. It was to die for. Yesterday was a Thursday and they had complimentary valet, which I appreciated. Our waiter also suggested some nice drinks for us. The only downside to this place is that the ambiance is kind of mismatched but that doesn't change the experience!! 10/10 experience. (Dessert pictured is the lemon cannoli. It was just okay.
